Dimal has nine years’ experience as a geotechnical engineer
designing of deep excavations in soft clays, piles, retaining walls,
and GIBR in Singapore and as a mining engineer rock blasting,
slope designing, quarry optimizing and managing in Sri Lanka.
He has experience in research projects of deep excavations. His
fields of competence include Analytical & Numerical modelling,
tunnelling in soft and hard ground, foundation engineering
He leads geotechnical team for designing cut and cover tunnel
box for underground highway project within soft soil and hard
soil.
With the knowledge and experience on both mining and
geotechnical engineering, Dimal aims to deliver
constructability economical design for his clients.
Geotechnical Investigation for Feasibility Studies for Inter-
Estate Goods Mover System Linking Tuas Port with
Industrial Estates and Underground Cavern Development at
Jurong West (July-2016 to present)
Residence Engineer for the ground investigation of IGMS &
JWUC including GI planning, managing, supervision and
interpretation GI data.
Round Island Route, Corridor B (April 2015 to Present)
Lead Geotechnical Engineer for a project by NParks which
involves the design of a 60 km cycling path round Singapore. The
major scope of works included the design of cycling path,
bridges, boardwalks, earthworks, retaining walls, drains, culverts
and utility diversion.
Thomson Line MRT, Package B, Contract T211 Bright Hill
MRT Station, Singapore (2014 to July-2016)
Lead geotechnical design engineer and construction support for a
S$450m D&B Contract with Penta Ocean as Main Contractor.
Arup scope includes full architectural, structural and associated
MEP design for a top-down station which will also serve as a
Civil Defence shelter with associated entrances, shafts, cut &
cover and bored tunnels as part of the new Thomson Line..
Eastern Region Line, Singapore
Geotechnical design engineer for two underground MRT stations
from design of four build only MRT stations and 5km of twin
running metro tunnels. One MRT station is open cut excavation
and the other cut and cover with perimeter diaphragm walls.

Package C, Singapore (2013 to 2014)
NSE Package C is a 2.4km long, fully underground expressway
for traffic. Dimal is the lead geotechnical engineer of Package C,
developing ERSS scheme for the full alignment across three main
geological formations, FCBB, Jurong formation and Kallang
formation with soft clay. He is responsible for managing sub-
consultants, developing feasible ERSS scheme for NSE
alignment, interpreting soil logs and soil parameters, settlement
prediction, damage assessment, coordinating with multi-
disciplines in delivering project on time.
MRT Thomson Line, Package D (C2105) – Architectural
Engineering Consultancy Service, Singapore. (2011 to 2013)
The proposed Thomson Line (TSL) is a fully underground Mass
Rapid Transit (MRT) system which runs approximately 30km
along the north-south corridor within Singapore. Package D
forms the southernmost design package comprising
approximately 6 km of running tunnel and 6 stations. He has been
involved the ERSS design for T19 and T20 underground station.
Carried out various FEM analysis (PLAXIS 2D) to support the
retaining structures design.
Key responsibilities include; Analysis and design diaphragm
walls for 40m deep five basement underground station in 40m
thick kallang layer using FREW and PLAXIS 2D
Design bored pile foundation work for station and future
development of seven story building.
Research projects, Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand
(2009-2011)
Evaluation on Behaviour of Diaphragm Walls in Deep
Excavations With Cross-Walls as Base Struts.
There is a tendency to use cross walls as base strut in deep
excavation in cities with soft sub soil profiles. Some countries
need cross walls for each diaphragm wall panel, but cross wall
can even bear load from two panels. Hence the study is based on
diaphragm wall response in omitting a cross wall from base strut
in soft soil deep excavation is evaluated by PLAXIS 2D and
PLAXIS 3D FOUNDATION finite element programs.
MAGA Engineering (pvt) Ltd, Sri Lanka.
Quarry and Blast design Engineer (Jan-2007 to Aug-2009)
Design 50m deep open cut quarry with analysing rock slope
stability and optimum road layout to transport production to the
crusher plant. Quarry optimizing and Blasting designing for “A
Grade” quarry with metal production 30,000m3 per month.
Foundation Designing and installation of 300 Tons per hour
crusher pant complex consisting of primary, secondary, tertiary
and quadrary size reduction of aggregates. Installation of
1000Tonnes per hour asphalt plant at Mirijjawila.
