DEFINITION ESSAY
Definition Essay
Definition: The aim in this essay is to define, explain, and exemplify something. Generally, in
definition essays, we try to make the terms that we use understandable for the reader. Our
understanding of a term may be different from the general concept, or we may be focusing on a
specific aspect. Giving an exact definition would enable the reader to follow the ideas and arguments
in your essay. Organization: Definition of a term is generally given in the introduction. The
development of the essay is dedicated to the explanation of the term. There are many ways to
explain a term. It is also possible to employ more than one of these methods of development. Below
are some of the types of organization that...show more content...
Love is not another seasoning to bottle and stick on the dust–lined shelves of the spice rack. Love is
not to be confused with adhesive tape. Instead, love is a great counterpart to late, evening thunder
storms on hot July nights. Love goes well with cold pizza on picnic blankets. Love is cold, wet sand
between bare toes. Love is a capitalistic sell–all for novels, Top–40 pop songs, summer movies, and
greeting cards.

DEFINITION ESSAY In its simplest terms, love is a four–letter word. Much like other words of
similar letter make up, when expressed it can evoke laughter, pleasure, pain, anger, and virtually any
wave of reaction. Love also can be confused with feelings of indigestion and gas. Houses have been
built, burned, and banished because of love. http://leo.stcloudstate.edu/acadwrite/definition.html

Different Types of Love Essay
"Love does not begin and end the way we seem to think it does. Love is a battle, love is a war; love
is a growing up." –James A. Baldwin. The author, Baldwin talks about the fact that we assume love
starts once you meet that person and it ends when you die, but love is everlasting and is a part of
you from the very beginning. In his quote he also says that we will face different types of love, while
growing up. Films are made about it, books, songs, and poems are written. Artists draw, paint and
sculpt from inspiration of it and people spend their entire lives waiting for it. In dictionaries love is
defined as a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection but it is more than just a deep
connection. Its more than deep connections...show more content...
This is why mother sends out more of a warm fuzzy feeling than the father. Family love is the type
of love that every human being encounters throughout his or her lifetime. It's the very first and
less painful type of love. Parental love isn't the only part of family love. Sibling love is a big part
to. Sibling rivalry starts when the second child is born and the 1st child starts to feel alienated and
abandoned. Even though siblings are like archenemies, they have the most caring love. Since they
are closer through blood, they have the ability to protect each other and fight for each other.
Another main type of love is the love that is felt towards friends. This love is felt less when younger
because when you are younger you are accompanied more by parental love and attention. But when
grown older, parents become busier that the kid will start creating their own bonds and connections
with other children their age. This would start a friendship. After people make new friends they start
to become more dependent and more trusting until they feel like they are one person with their
friend. Having common interests, similar history, common values, and equality draws people to be
together as friends. Psychologically when one friend feels pain the other friend feels it because of
the bond created between them. In their mind they have automatically "connected" themselves with
that person. But friendship is the hardest to find because you're not

Essay about Three Types of Happiness
"Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual
experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude." –– Denis Waitley
Many people believe that happiness is simply a state of well being; to me, happiness is much more
complex. Absolute happiness is anything that brings feelings of pure bliss to an individual's life.
One can gain happiness from simple pleasures of life, such as receiving a kiss from a three–year old,
to advanced pleasures, such as a happy marriage or a successful career. Dr. Seligman, a well known
psychologist and proponent of positive psychology, identified three types of happiness: pleasant life,
engaged life, and meaningful life. Although Dr....show more content...
Right now, I feel as if I have learned a great deal from the obstacles I had faced, and I have matured
more and more by the lessons I have gained from them. Having found which path I am to take in my
future life, I am perfectly content with my situation in life at this instance, and nothing could make
me happier.
According to Seligman, the final form of happiness, "pleasant life" happiness, is considered a
short cut to happiness, and not as significant as "engaged life" or "meaningful life" happiness.
"Pleasant life" happiness is defined as simplistic events that bring pleasure to oneself. Contrary to
Seligman's belief, it is my notion that "pleasant life" happiness is equivalent to both "engaged
life" and "meaningful life" happiness. For example, every summer my family and I go
blackberry picking at a nearby field. The day starts off with the four of us biking on a winding
trail to reach the field of blackberries. It is pure bliss to feel the warm wind rush through my hair
as I speed down a sloping hill on my bicycle. After about an hour of relaxing bike riding, my family
and I finally reach our destination. Laughing, I race my sister to the nearest blackberry bush. Trying
hard to avoid the stinging pain of the blackberry's many thorns,

Types of Competition
Economic theory usually differentiates across the four major types of market structure: monopoly,
oligopoly, monopolistic competition, and perfect competition. Although the list of market structures
can be virtually unlimited, these four types are considered to be the basis for understanding the
principles of market performance in different market conditions. Each of the four types of market
structures possesses its benefits and drawbacks. In any of these markets, an entrepreneur can develop
a strategy appropriate for conquering a part of the market niche. Although for many entrepreneurs
monopoly seems an excellent choice (no competitors and full control over the product and its price),
in reality it is monopolistic competition that...show more content...
In perfect competition, no barriers to entry or exit exist, and firms are free to move across their
markets. Certainly, perfect competition seems a perfect choice for customers, while monopoly will
seem like a perfect choice for entrepreneurs – no competition, full price control, and full control over
the product assortment. However, as an entrepreneur, I would rather choose monopolistic
competition. My choice is justified by several reasons. Fist of all, monopoly prevents
entrepreneurs from entering the market, while monopolistic competition markets are free for entry,
and as an entrepreneur I may enter any market I deem appropriate and effective in terms of
maximizing my profits. Second, monopoly does give some control over prices and product
assortment, but in the current world, customers always seek to diversify the range of products they
use. Monopoly does not leave any chance for differentiation, and as an entrepreneur I will always
want to have several different products that will be sold to several different groups of consumers.
Finally, it is due to the fact that competition drives innovation and gives me sufficient stimuli for
growth that I can make my business grow. As such, in conditions of monopolistic competition I may
have fewer opportunities for maximizing my profits for the sake of full control over prices and
assortment, but I am more confident that my business will grow for the account of better customer

Essay about Crime
Crime
In general the definition of a crime is an act punishable by law, usually considered an evil act.
Crime refers to many types of misconduct forbidden by law. Crimes include such things as murder,
stealing a car, resisting arrest, possession or dealing of illegal drugs, being nude in public , drunk
driving, and bank robbery. Crime is an act that has been timeless and has been committed practically
since the start of time. For example, ever since Cain killed his brother Abel (B.C.), people being
charged with witchcraft in the 1600's, prostitution, to the current crimes of modern day(A.D.). Even
though crime has existed throughout time it has progressed and branched out taking many types
forms....show more content...
Crimes are frequently classified according to their seriousness as felonies or misdemeanors.
Generally, felonies are more serious than misdemeanors. Under the federal criminal law system,
felonies are crimes for which the punishment is death or imprisonment for more than a year. A
misdemeanor is punishable by a fine or by imprisonment for less than a year. In most states persons
convicted of felonies are sent to state prisons, while those guilty of misdemeanors serve their
sentence in city, or county jails, or correction houses.
Crimes against people include assault, kidnapping, murder, and sexual attacks. Such crimes usually
bring severe punishments. Crimes against property include arson, automobile theft, burglary,
embezzlement, forgery, fraud, larceny, and vandalism. In most cases, these crimes carry lighter
penalties than the crimes set against the person. Robbery is the crime most difficult to classify. The
law considers robbery a crime against the person or against the property, according to the case.
Robbery may involve simply stealing property from another person, but when a personal encounter
occurs between the robber and his victim, it may include violence and bodily harm. This usually
occurs during muggings or other strong–arm robberies.

Types of Racism Essay
Racism is the act of passing judgment on a person on the basis of their skin color, social or
cultural background. Prejudice refers to forming of opinions or judgments about people or a
situation without basing on facts as evidence. Stereotypes are defined as certain notions or beliefs
that are carried about a specific person or people or a way of doing things without substantial proof
to back these claims. Institutional racism refers to a kind of discrimination that is based on race. This
kind of discrimination happens in institutions. An example of institutional racism is when a person
of a particular race is given priority position wise over others because he is of the same race as those
who are doing the selection. Racism, though...show more content...
In the long run, they end up discriminating the white man, who also retaliates in a bid to protect
themselves. Therefore, unless these two groups learn to forgive each other of the sins that were
committed before they were born, racism is far from over in our society.
The race is indeed a biological category. This is because it is based on the genes that make them
posses a different skin color from other people who belong to other races. However, ethnicity is a
totally different category that cannot be grouped together with racism. Ethnicity refers to the way a
person has been brought up and the characters and cultures that they are brought up in. Therefore,
color should not be used to determine a person's ethnicity, rather his practices. Racial determinism
refers to the classification of people depending on their racial backgrounds. This is mainly in the
form of the color of their skin.
#Q2:
The most common form of unintentional racism is when a person tries to identify or socialize
with people of a different racial background from theirs. In their minds, they may think that they
are trying to be all inclusive, but subconsciously they are being racist. This is because they are
determining the kind of people they are socializing with according to their race. A true non racist
person is one who is not able to realize that the people he

Essay on Types of Crimes
Types of Crimes
A crime is an act against the public good, punishable by a fine, imprisonment, or both. There are
two major classifications of crime. The first classification of crime is a felony. A felony is a major
crime punishable by imprisonment or death. Murder, manslaughter, burglary, robbery, and arson are
examples of felonies. The second major classification of a crime is a misdemeanor. A misdemeanor
is a less serious crime with a less severe penalty. Misdemeanors that aren't as serious are known as
petty offenses. Driving an automobile without a license, lying about your age to purchase alcohol,
and leaving the scene of an automobile accident are all examples of misdemeanors.
Crimes are defined by two elements. The...show more content...
Involuntary manslaughter occurs when you kill someone in a reckless act such as drunk driving.
There are crimes against business interests such as larceny by false pretenses, forgery, bribery, and
extortion. These crimes are known as white–collar crimes and usually involve fraud and are
nonviolent. The act of taking someone's money or property by intentionally deceiving that person is
known as larceny by false pretenses.
Forgery is the false making or changing of writing with the intent to defraud. The signing of another
person's name without authority to check or other document is known as forgery also. In order for a
crime to take place there must be intent to defraud or deceive.
Bribery is the illegal paying of public officials in order to influence their official authority or
decisions. The penalty for bribery at the federal level is a fine of not more than $20,000 or three
times the monetary equivalent of the bribe. Burglary is defined as the breaking and entering of a
dwelling house at night with the intent to commit a felony. States have passed statutes covering
other kinds of breaking and entering. If any part of the crime cannot be proven, you cannot be
charged with burglary.
Robbery is the wrongful taking and carrying away of the personal property of another accompanied
by violence or threats. The main difference between larceny and robbery is that when you rob

Essay about Behavior
Behavior–
Behave, it its root form, means to contain or to have. In the reflective sense, it means 'to have bear
oneself'. To use the word behave in common conversation, it is understood as to 'behave well'. As for
the phrase 'to behave badly', it is understood immediately.
Behavior is looked at in society as the way a person presents him or herself in a given situation. It is
also related to the specialized sense of manners. Use of the noun to refer to public conduct or, in a
moral sense, to a general range of activities is still quite common.
But the term is also used in relation to plants, lower organisms and animals to describe the apparent
activity of the whole organism.
One particular meaning followed from the extension of the...show more content...
Different stages of bourgeois society led to different stages of the capitalist mode of economic
production. It is often difficult to separate the meaning of bourgeois from the meaning used to
describe historically distinct periods and phrases of social and cultural development. The bourgeois
ideology of settled independent citizens is clearly not the same as the bourgeois ideology of the
highly mobile agents of a para–national corporation. There are also some problems between
bourgeois and capitalist, which are often used interchangeably but which are primarily
distinguishable as social and economic terms.
There can be difficulties of usage, associated with some of the most intense controversies of
analysis, when the same word is used for the whole society in which one class is dominate and for a
specific class within that whole society.
Bureaucracy–
Definition– the word Bureaucracy originated in English in the middle of the 1900's. The word
bureau had its meaning of a writing desk with drawers. The American use of Bureaucracy has
become more common, especially with references to foreign branches. As the word bureaucracy
evolved, many different meanings have been taken to affect.
The increasing scale of commercial organization, with a corresponding increase in government
intervention and legal controls, and with the increasing importance of organized and professional
central government, produced the political facts to which the new term pointed.

Definition Essay – Genre
"Genre," in the most generic definition, takes the meaning "kind; sort; style" (OED). Prior to the
term's inception, the notion of genre in the study of media emerged in The Poetics, with Aristotle's
discussion of the mode or manner of imitation in poetry. Of this Aristotle writes, "the medium being
the same, and the objects [of imitation] the same, the poet may imitate by narration – in which case
he can either take another personality as Homer does, or speak in his own person, unchanged – or he
may present all his characters as living and moving before us" (Aristotle, 53). Here lies the
distinction between epic, lyric, and drama, a distinction based solely in convention, the usage of the
medium,...show more content...
It is a French word imported directly into the English language, derived from the Latin "genus" (the
stem is gener–), itself derived from the Greek "genos" (OED). Having evolved separately, the Greek
word and the Greek idea converged. The Greek root–word, like its Latin relative, refers to a clan or
race of people, or to offspring (Liddell & Scott Lexicon). This sense of familial interconnectedness
is essential to genre theory. Frye writes:
It is clear that criticism cannot be a systematic study unless there is a quality in literature which
enables it to be so. We have to adopt the hypothesis, then, that just as there is an order of nature
behind the natural sciences, so literature is not a piled aggregate of "works," but an order of words
(Frye, 17).
In conceiving of literature as a unified "order of words," Frye requires a system of genres which
will encompass the entire medium, expressing each the entire state of literature at a given moment,
all its bloodlines.
One might extend this idea of kinship to objects within any given medium, as in literature each
novel bears a relation to other novels, or across several media, as a Western film may bear relation to
a similar comic–book or radio drama. From this first approach, it makes more sense to think about
genres in a medium or the genres of a medium, than to think of genre as a medium. Based on the
questions raised in Aristotle's discussion, one might assemble a definition of genre more

Types of Intelligence Essay examples
Types of Intelligence The meaning of intelligence is a concept that varies across cultures and
ideologies. According to psychologists "intelligence is the capacity to understand the world, think
rationally, and use resources effectively when faced with challenges." (Feldman, R. S. 2010). Due to
the different types of human capabilities, there are different types of human intelligence. Some
intelligence is expressed mentally as in existential, intrapersonal, and spatial intelligences. Existential
intelligence is the capacity and inclination to consider and question philosophically. People with this
type of intelligence are very comfortable with concepts like the meaning of life, the purpose of death,
and other realities. Intrapersonal...show more content...
Musical/Rhythmic intelligence is also physical intelligence. This form of intelligence is more than
being able to keep accurate rhythm or play an instrument. People with this type of intelligence think
in musical terms, they live musically; music is a part of their being. Naturalist Intelligence: the
ability to discriminate among living things (plants, animals) and sensitivity to other features of the
natural world (clouds, rock configurations) (Gardner H. n.d.). Although, this type of intelligence was
necessary for hunting and gathering civilizations; I believe that Jacque Cousteau had this type of
intelligence. The more familiar forms of intelligence are linguistic, interpersonal, and logical
/mathematical intelligence. Linguistic intelligence is necessary for authors, attorneys, and anyone
whose bread and butter is made through language. Interpersonal intelligence is defined as the ability
to understand other people. Yet, I find that empathy, and wisdom must be included for the
psychological definition of intelligence to exist, or instead of solutions, problems can be created. I
define wisdom as not just knowing what to do, but actually doing it. Logical or mathematical
intelligence is an innate ability to interact with mathematical and scientific principles. Practical
intelligence is needed for success in careers that involve corporations, the military, and other
structured environments. Practical

Love also can be confused with feelings of indigestion and gas. Houses have been built, burned, and banished because of love. http://leo.stcloudstate.edu/acadwrite/definition.html retrieved May 12, 2004 ________________________________________________ Written by Oya Ozagac, May 2004 Copyright @ 2006 Bogazici University SFL Copyright @ 2006 Bogazici University SFL 3 of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Different Types of Love Essay "Love does not begin and end the way we seem to think it does. Love is a battle, love is a war; love is a growing up." –James A. Baldwin. The author, Baldwin talks about the fact that we assume love starts once you meet that person and it ends when you die, but love is everlasting and is a part of you from the very beginning. In his quote he also says that we will face different types of love, while growing up. Films are made about it, books, songs, and poems are written. Artists draw, paint and sculpt from inspiration of it and people spend their entire lives waiting for it. In dictionaries love is defined as a feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection but it is more than just a deep connection. Its more than deep connections...show more content... This is why mother sends out more of a warm fuzzy feeling than the father. Family love is the type of love that every human being encounters throughout his or her lifetime. It's the very first and less painful type of love. Parental love isn't the only part of family love. Sibling love is a big part to. Sibling rivalry starts when the second child is born and the 1st child starts to feel alienated and abandoned. Even though siblings are like archenemies, they have the most caring love. Since they are closer through blood, they have the ability to protect each other and fight for each other. Another main type of love is the love that is felt towards friends. This love is felt less when younger because when you are younger you are accompanied more by parental love and attention. But when grown older, parents become busier that the kid will start creating their own bonds and connections with other children their age. This would start a friendship. After people make new friends they start to become more dependent and more trusting until they feel like they are one person with their friend. Having common interests, similar history, common values, and equality draws people to be together as friends. Psychologically when one friend feels pain the other friend feels it because of the bond created between them. In their mind they have automatically "connected" themselves with that person. • 3. Essay about Three Types of Happiness "Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude." –– Denis Waitley Many people believe that happiness is simply a state of well being; to me, happiness is much more complex. Absolute happiness is anything that brings feelings of pure bliss to an individual's life. One can gain happiness from simple pleasures of life, such as receiving a kiss from a three–year old, to advanced pleasures, such as a happy marriage or a successful career. Dr. Seligman, a well known psychologist and proponent of positive psychology, identified three types of happiness: pleasant life, engaged life, and meaningful life. Although Dr....show more content... Right now, I feel as if I have learned a great deal from the obstacles I had faced, and I have matured more and more by the lessons I have gained from them. Having found which path I am to take in my future life, I am perfectly content with my situation in life at this instance, and nothing could make me happier. According to Seligman, the final form of happiness, "pleasant life" happiness, is considered a short cut to happiness, and not as significant as "engaged life" or "meaningful life" happiness. "Pleasant life" happiness is defined as simplistic events that bring pleasure to oneself. Contrary to Seligman's belief, it is my notion that "pleasant life" happiness is equivalent to both "engaged life" and "meaningful life" happiness. For example, every summer my family and I go blackberry picking at a nearby field. The day starts off with the four of us biking on a winding trail to reach the field of blackberries. It is pure bliss to feel the warm wind rush through my hair as I speed down a sloping hill on my bicycle. After about an hour of relaxing bike riding, my family and I finally reach our destination. Laughing, I race my sister to the nearest blackberry bush. Trying hard to avoid the stinging pain of the blackberry's many thorns, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Types of Competition Economic theory usually differentiates across the four major types of market structure: monopoly, oligopoly, monopolistic competition, and perfect competition. Although the list of market structures can be virtually unlimited, these four types are considered to be the basis for understanding the principles of market performance in different market conditions. Each of the four types of market structures possesses its benefits and drawbacks. In any of these markets, an entrepreneur can develop a strategy appropriate for conquering a part of the market niche. Although for many entrepreneurs monopoly seems an excellent choice (no competitors and full control over the product and its price), in reality it is monopolistic competition that...show more content... In perfect competition, no barriers to entry or exit exist, and firms are free to move across their markets. Certainly, perfect competition seems a perfect choice for customers, while monopoly will seem like a perfect choice for entrepreneurs – no competition, full price control, and full control over the product assortment. However, as an entrepreneur, I would rather choose monopolistic competition. My choice is justified by several reasons. Fist of all, monopoly prevents entrepreneurs from entering the market, while monopolistic competition markets are free for entry, and as an entrepreneur I may enter any market I deem appropriate and effective in terms of maximizing my profits. Second, monopoly does give some control over prices and product assortment, but in the current world, customers always seek to diversify the range of products they use. Monopoly does not leave any chance for differentiation, and as an entrepreneur I will always want to have several different products that will be sold to several different groups of consumers. Finally, it is due to the fact that competition drives innovation and gives me sufficient stimuli for growth that I can make my business grow. As such, in conditions of monopolistic competition I may have fewer opportunities for maximizing my profits for the sake of full control over prices and assortment, but I am more confident that my business will grow for the account of better customer satisfaction Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Crimes include such things as murder, stealing a car, resisting arrest, possession or dealing of illegal drugs, being nude in public , drunk driving, and bank robbery. Crime is an act that has been timeless and has been committed practically since the start of time. For example, ever since Cain killed his brother Abel (B.C.), people being charged with witchcraft in the 1600's, prostitution, to the current crimes of modern day(A.D.). Even though crime has existed throughout time it has progressed and branched out taking many types forms....show more content... Crimes are frequently classified according to their seriousness as felonies or misdemeanors. Generally, felonies are more serious than misdemeanors. Under the federal criminal law system, felonies are crimes for which the punishment is death or imprisonment for more than a year. A misdemeanor is punishable by a fine or by imprisonment for less than a year. In most states persons convicted of felonies are sent to state prisons, while those guilty of misdemeanors serve their sentence in city, or county jails, or correction houses. Crimes against people include assault, kidnapping, murder, and sexual attacks. Such crimes usually bring severe punishments. Crimes against property include arson, automobile theft, burglary, embezzlement, forgery, fraud, larceny, and vandalism. In most cases, these crimes carry lighter penalties than the crimes set against the person. Robbery is the crime most difficult to classify. The law considers robbery a crime against the person or against the property, according to the case. Robbery may involve simply stealing property from another person, but when a personal encounter occurs between the robber and his victim, it may include violence and bodily harm. This usually occurs during muggings or other strong–arm robberies. Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Prejudice refers to forming of opinions or judgments about people or a situation without basing on facts as evidence. Stereotypes are defined as certain notions or beliefs that are carried about a specific person or people or a way of doing things without substantial proof to back these claims. Institutional racism refers to a kind of discrimination that is based on race. This kind of discrimination happens in institutions. Therefore, unless these two groups learn to forgive each other of the sins that were committed before they were born, racism is far from over in our society. The race is indeed a biological category. This is because it is based on the genes that make them posses a different skin color from other people who belong to other races. However, ethnicity is a totally different category that cannot be grouped together with racism. Ethnicity refers to the way a person has been brought up and the characters and cultures that they are brought up in. Therefore, color should not be used to determine a person's ethnicity, rather his practices. Racial determinism refers to the classification of people depending on their racial backgrounds. This is mainly in the form of the color of their skin. #Q2: The most common form of unintentional racism is when a person tries to identify or socialize with people of a different racial background from theirs. In their minds, they may think that they are trying to be all inclusive, but subconsciously they are being racist. This is because they are determining the kind of people they are socializing with according to their race. • 8. Essay about Behavior Behavior– Behave, it its root form, means to contain or to have. In the reflective sense, it means 'to have bear oneself'. To use the word behave in common conversation, it is understood as to 'behave well'. As for the phrase 'to behave badly', it is understood immediately. Behavior is looked at in society as the way a person presents him or herself in a given situation. It is also related to the specialized sense of manners. Use of the noun to refer to public conduct or, in a moral sense, to a general range of activities is still quite common. It is often difficult to separate the meaning of bourgeois from the meaning used to describe historically distinct periods and phrases of social and cultural development. The bourgeois ideology of settled independent citizens is clearly not the same as the bourgeois ideology of the highly mobile agents of a para–national corporation. There are also some problems between bourgeois and capitalist, which are often used interchangeably but which are primarily distinguishable as social and economic terms. There can be difficulties of usage, associated with some of the most intense controversies of analysis, when the same word is used for the whole society in which one class is dominate and for a specific class within that whole society. Bureaucracy– Definition– the word Bureaucracy originated in English in the middle of the 1900's. The word bureau had its meaning of a writing desk with drawers. The American use of Bureaucracy has become more common, especially with references to foreign branches. As the word bureaucracy evolved, many different meanings have been taken to affect. The increasing scale of commercial organization, with a corresponding increase in government intervention and legal controls, and with the increasing importance of organized and professional central government, produced the political facts to which the new term pointed. • 9. Definition Essay Definition Essay – Genre "Genre," in the most generic definition, takes the meaning "kind; sort; style" (OED). Prior to the term's inception, the notion of genre in the study of media emerged in The Poetics, with Aristotle's discussion of the mode or manner of imitation in poetry. Of this Aristotle writes, "the medium being the same, and the objects [of imitation] the same, the poet may imitate by narration – in which case he can either take another personality as Homer does, or speak in his own person, unchanged – or he may present all his characters as living and moving before us" (Aristotle, 53). Here lies the distinction between epic, lyric, and drama, a distinction based solely in convention, the usage of the medium,...show more content... It is a French word imported directly into the English language, derived from the Latin "genus" (the stem is gener–), itself derived from the Greek "genos" (OED). Having evolved separately, the Greek word and the Greek idea converged. The Greek root–word, like its Latin relative, refers to a clan or race of people, or to offspring (Liddell & Scott Lexicon). This sense of familial interconnectedness is essential to genre theory. Frye writes: It is clear that criticism cannot be a systematic study unless there is a quality in literature which enables it to be so. We have to adopt the hypothesis, then, that just as there is an order of nature behind the natural sciences, so literature is not a piled aggregate of "works," but an order of words (Frye, 17). In conceiving of literature as a unified "order of words," Frye requires a system of genres which will encompass the entire medium, expressing each the entire state of literature at a given moment, all its bloodlines. One might extend this idea of kinship to objects within any given medium, as in literature each novel bears a relation to other novels, or across several media, as a Western film may bear relation to a similar comic–book or radio drama. From this first approach, it makes more sense to think about genres in a medium or the genres of a medium, than to think of genre as a medium. Based on the questions raised in Aristotle's discussion, one might assemble a definition of genre more Get more content on HelpWriting.net

According to psychologists "intelligence is the capacity to understand the world, think rationally, and use resources effectively when faced with challenges." (Feldman, R. S. 2010). Due to the different types of human capabilities, there are different types of human intelligence. Some intelligence is expressed mentally as in existential, intrapersonal, and spatial intelligences. Although, this type of intelligence was necessary for hunting and gathering civilizations; I believe that Jacque Cousteau had this type of intelligence. The more familiar forms of intelligence are linguistic, interpersonal, and logical /mathematical intelligence. Linguistic intelligence is necessary for authors, attorneys, and anyone whose bread and butter is made through language. Interpersonal intelligence is defined as the ability to understand other people. Yet, I find that empathy, and wisdom must be included for the psychological definition of intelligence to exist, or instead of solutions, problems can be created. I define wisdom as not just knowing what to do, but actually doing it. Logical or mathematical intelligence is an innate ability to interact with mathematical and scientific principles. Practical intelligence is needed for success in careers that involve corporations, the military, and other structured environments. Practical Get more content on HelpWriting.net
