Pollution and the Environment Essay
Pollution and the Environment
Pollution occurs when harmful substances or products are introduced into the environment. It is a
major problem in America, as well as the rest of the world. Pollution damages the environment and
does harm to humans and other animals. It creates many problems, from lung cancer to the
greenhouse effect. Oblivious to the damage they cause, rednecks continue to throw trash out of the
window instead of walking two feet to a garbage can. The laziness of these types of people creates
problems for the entire planet. People must realize that something needs to change. Why does our
world continue to become more polluted year after year?
Obviously, most pollution comes from automobiles. The most famous...show more content...
In today's society when something gets the slightest bit old, it must be thrown away and a new one
replaces it. The citizens blame the government for their trash problem. The over consumers must
take the blame for this situation. The last major source of pollution is in the businesses. In a few
rare instances, businesses dumped their waste products into streams, lakes, or rivers. This may seem
like a relatively small occurrence that does not affect most people. However, horrible consequences
result every time a company pollutes a water system. Mutations and human death have occurred as a
direct result of illegal dumping. Illegal dumping contaminates our drinking water and soil. The
pollutants dumped by industry are so concentrated that a single barrel can destroy an entire lake's
ecosystem.
Despite the severity of the pollution problem, it can be solved. Individuals can do a lot to save
the environment. Instead of driving, carpool with a friend or take a bus. This will not only cut
down on the pollution due to cars each year, but will also save money on gas. Taking the time to
sort your trash and placing it in the appropriate recycling bins can also do a lot for the environment.
Recycling reduces the amount of waste piled into landfills. Also, pay attention to the products you
buy and how they are packaged. Do not buy items that will be thrown away due to lack of use.

Global warming is caused by human activity. This global warming in turn, causes hurricanes. The
hurricanes will destroy the human population main resources. This will lower people into having
less important resources such as: food, shelter and water. Having less resources could lead to
poverty, which is known in developing countries such as: India, Philippines, and Haiti . There are
also changes in the oceans that are being affected. This change occurring could lead to the ocean
over flooding due to contaminating the ocean caused by humans because humans have an impact on
the environment. Humanity needs to cut down the production in the coal industry because people
are burning the coal; this is causing the coal to pollute the air people breath.
To avoid the problem of deforestation, people should stop cutting down the trees in the forest. The
cutting of the trees is causing deforestation, the trees are a helpful resource in the environment.
According to an article by Struck states, "Experts say deforestation threatens a delicate balance in
which forests act as Earth's lungs: absorbing carbon dioxide – the biggest contributor to climate
change – and expelling oxygen" (29). This effect is causing more of the air to become
contaminated by carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a harmful gas that is released into the air. The
trees helps keep down the carbon dioxide in the air; this releases oxygen, so we can breathe clean
air. As the trees are being cut in the forest it releases

Solution Of Environmental Pollution
Environment pollution is a wide–reaching problem. It is likely to influence the health of human
population to a great extent. There has been an increasing global concern over the public health
impacts which are attributed to environmental pollution, particularly the global burden of disease.
According to the reports of WHO (World Health Organization), most of the diseases that are faced
by the mankind today are due to a prolonged exposure to environmental pollution. Environment
pollution is a worldwide problem and its potential to influence the health of human populations is
great (Fereidoun et al, 2007; Progressive Insurance, 2005.). Many of the environmental related
diseases may be acquired during the childhood itself and may me manifested in the adulthood. These
diseases may not be detected in the childhood.
There are many causes to environmental pollution. One of them is improper management of soil
waste. It is one of the major causes of degradation in the developing cities. Many cities do not have
proper disposal facilities or sewage systems. Such disposal of wastes can be radioactive, toxic and
very infectious. Pollution, in simple terms, can be defined as contamination of the environment,
bringing about adverse changes and effects to the ecosystem.
We normally observe that the municipal waste dumping sites are set aside for waste disposal
somewhere outside the city. The waste management of any city plays a vital role in this regard.
Depending on the waste management

Water Pollution Essay: Saving The Environment
Sometimes it is forgotten in daily life how important the world around us actually is. The water we
drink, the air we breathe, and the land we live on is all we have. The problem though is a lot of
business owners forget that when they are developing kickbacks or loopholes to bypass laws that
protect the environment and in doing so is saving them copious amounts of money. By
accomplishing this, it is ruining the one thing that grants us prosperity and life, the Earth. In a public
remark, by former president Bill Clinton, he had this to say, "...Creating thriving companies and new
jobs doesn't have to come at the expense of the air we breathe, the water we drink... or the natural
landscape in which we live." Although industrialization is great for the economic growth and
development for a country, this can also be harmful for the environment itself. One of the most
common issues with businesses and the environment is the disposal of waste. Not only do
communities itself make an immense amount of waste, but also corporations that manufacture
certain products or goods. Due to the costs certain companies accrue from environmental laws,
companies often times find more efficient and cost effective ways to produce their goods, but this
also lays waste to an extreme amount of byproducts that tarnish our environment. Most of these
byproducts are also being burned at waste disposal sites that create air pollution and in turn pollutes
our water supply and land. The problem in most

Our environment is affected by our daily actions. The earth is plagued with land, air and water
pollution. Some of the problems we face on earth are: deforestation, nuclear waste, acid rain, global
warming, overpopulation and some animals are endangered. Air pollution has many different sources.
Power–generated plants, oil refineries, chemical plants, and steel mills contribute to about 140
million tons of pollutants into the air every year. Automobiles account for at least 80 percent, ofair
pollution; the heaviest polluter. Another type of air pollution is acid rain. Acid rain is formed when
sulfur and nitrogen are distributed from factories, automobiles and power plants. The sulfur and

Solid waste such as tires, diapers and plastics are buried in landfills each year. It takes generations
for them to decompose. Today, there are laws that penalize manufacturing plants that dispose
hazardous wastes. These plants dump these hazardous materials in nearby woods or dump them into
streams (this practice was common fifty years ago). We need rain forests for survival. Rain forests
pump fresh oxygen into the atmosphere, protect soil from erosion and absorb carbon dioxide.
Rain forests cover 4.5 billion acres and accounts for 7 percent of the earth's land. The Amazon in
Brazil is the largest rain forest (2 million acres). The fate of today's rain forest is in trouble. A
process called deforestation is the leading problem. Deforestation is the process of cutting down
forests to use the land for farming and grazing cattle. Farmers "slash and burn" forest turning them
into desert land. Brazil promised to implement laws that were tougher to protect the Amazon.
These laws cut deforestation in half. By 1994, the burning started again and in 1996 the burning
was at it's worst. The ozone layer blocks harmful ultraviolet rays, that comes from the sun.
Chemicals released from the earth are depleting the ozone layer. Skin cancer is on the rise as a
result of the depletion of the ozone layer. Scientist states that every 1 percent of depletion of the
ozone layer, the rate of skin cancer will rise 5

"Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting. We allow them to be dispersed
because we have been ignorant of their value." – R. Buckminster Fuller. A bus company in Great
Britain has taken this quote into full effect. The Bath Bus Company has created a first ever
"Bio–Bus" and will transfer its passengers between the Bath and Bristol Airport. This 40–seat bus
runs completely on biomethane gas which is generated through food waste and human waste. This
bus fills two needs: transporting passengers and improving air quality. By recycling an undesirable
product, this bus company has created something that improves their society (Pollution Control).
There are many more examples of countries and communities developing a product or plan to
improve the quality of their life. In fact, environmental protection has dated back to the beginning
of ancient civilizations and has continued to be an important concept in today's society. George
Perkins Marsh, an American diplomat and philologist, drafted a book titled Man and Nature. In his
writings, he explained the downfall of many ancient civilizations was caused by environmental
abuse. From deforesting hillsides to eroding their soils, many of the early civilizations destroyed
their natural fertility. As we look back in history, it is important that we learn from our mistakes.
The Civilian Conservation Corps, created in 1933, was developed as a public relief group, targeted
for single, unemployed men. As part of FDR's

Pollution
Pollution is the introduction of harmful substances or products into the environment. It is a major
problem in America and as well as the world. Pollution not only damages the environment, but
damages us also. It has cause many problems ranging from lung cancer to the greenhouse effect. It
is all among us but we continue to live in our own filth. What is the reason behind this flawed
logic? In this paper I will examine the problems and solutions for this issue.
Automobiles are undeniable the greatest source of pollution. The noise pollution created by cars is
immense. Another polluting effect of cars is the heat it creates. This heat makes it unpleasant to be
near the car while its running. And of course the most famous...show more content...
American citizens throw away millions of tons of garbage each year, and this trash has to go
somewhere. While there are projects underway to clean and reuse this refuse most of it gets dumped
into huge landfills. These landfills are disgusting festering blisters on our country's landscape. But
people continue to consume and throw away more and more in the name of convenience. As they see
it, when things get old, throw it away and get a new one. They blame the government for the trash
problem, but the truth blame should be placed on themselves.
The last great source of pollution lays in the businesses. Although not common, businesses have been
known to dump their waste products into streams, lakes, and rivers. This may seem like a relatively
small occurrence that really is not your concern, but you're wrong. Each time one of these companies

causes entire communities of humans (not to mention animals) to move on to new places not to
return for at least a century. The pollutants dumped by industry are so concentrated that a single

water. This hot water kills most life it comes into contact with, but also causes an overgrowth

INTRODUCTION OF AIR POLLUTION The chemical composition of the atmosphere today is so
different as compared to the atmosphere that existed before the Industrial Revolution, 1760 – 1830.
To define air pollution, we should first consider all those sources that release harmful chemicals into
the atmosphere and alter its chemical composition. First of all, all anthropogenic (man–made)
emissions are air pollutants. Next, is the natural emission which can be divided into biogenic and
geogenic. Biogenic emissions result from the living world such as volatile organic compound
emissions from forests and CH4 emissions from swamp. On the other hand, geogenic emissions are
from the non–living world, such as volcanic emissions, sea–salt emissions, and...show more content...

the economy, and causes drastic weather changes. Air pollution is one of the world 's biggest
killers. It is made up of gases that are released into the air in large quantities. These gases are capable
of harming humans, animals, plants, and our climate. Approximately two million people die

In addition to our food supply being in danger, health care costs are on the rise."The health costs of
human exposure to outdoor air pollutants range from 40–50 billion dollars a year"(Leonardo

air pollution. "Employers lose 14,000 work days every year when asthma keeps adults out of the
workplace"(Natural Resource Defense Council). The number of hospital visits has increased due to
the many health effects of pollution costing billions of dollars to the public and government. "The
Federal government and private companies have spent $31 billion dollars on air pollution
clean–up"(Crandall, Robert). "Steps are being taken to reduce sulfur and nitrogen emissions.
Many governments are now requiring energy producers to clean smoke stacks by using scrubbers
that trap pollutants before they are released into the air" (Briney, Amanda). Companies are selling
electric cars to help cut down on pollution caused from the gas used in standard cars. The EPA has
put laws into effect for major industrial companies,Power plants are required to cut emissions that
cause acid rain. More farmers are growing food organically in order to decrease the use of
pesticides. Families and companies are recycling. "The Clean Air Act continues to cut pollution and
protect the health of American families and workers"(Climate Change and Air Quality).

1.1Environmental Pollution For many centuries, environmental pollution had been a fact of life but
it transforms to a real problem when industrial revolution began. Environmental pollution is
described to be the contamination of the physical and biological components of the earth/atmosphere
system to such an extent that normal environmental processes are adversely affected according to
Kemp (1998).
Wikipedia (2008) defined Pollution to be an introduction of contaminants into the environment that
cause harm or discomfort to humans or other living organisms, or that damage the environment
which can come in the form of chemical substances, or energy such as noise, heat or light. Whereas

Improper handling of solid waste and indiscriminate disposal in open spaces, road margins, tank
beds, and etcetera, give rise to numerous potential risks to the environment and to human health.
Direct health risks mainly concern those working in the field without using proper gloves, uniforms,
and etcetera; a high percentage of waste workers and individuals who live near or on disposal sites
are infected with gastrointestinal parasites, worms, and related organisms (SWMM, 2000).
For the public, the main risks to health are indirect and related to poor water, land, and air quality.
In addition, infrequent collection of waste provides an attractive breeding ground for flies and rats
(SWMM, 2000).
The most obvious environmental damage caused by solid waste is aesthetic, i.e. waste that litter
public areas is ugly and smelly. A more serious risk is the transfer of pollution to ground water and
land as well as the pollution of air from improper burning of waste. Many waste activities generate
greenhouse gases; e.g., landfills generate methane and refuse fleets are significant sources of carbon
dioxide and nitrous oxide. Open burning dumpsites produce volatilised heavy metals (e.g. mercury
and lead), dioxins, and furan. Leachate from unlined and uncovered dumpsites contaminates surface
and ground waters (Cointreau, 2006).
A damaged local environment will first hit the most

But in recent studies it has shown that in some communities in Australia struggle to meet water
standards. (Schwarzenbach et al., 2010) has recently shown that drinking water in some parts of

As we not only depend on it to live it helps our cells to function properly. Not having clean water
can hinder our development but can affect our organs as well.As that being said low income
communities in Australia will most likely have less access to clean water as opposed to those who

Abstract On Environmental Pollution
Abstract
Environmental pollution is anything that can cause harm to the environment. Pollution is any
undesired alteration of the environment and is often caused by human activities (Mader, 2016, pg.
552). Types of human pollution would be air, water, soil, radioactive, thermal, noise, and light. Each
of these forms of pollution has been known to cause the enormous amount of concern for the
environment. There are laws in place now that are limiting pollution and to help control the issue.
Environmental pollution is a serious problem we are facing globally. It is the debate concerning
pollution, which we have been pondering for the past century. Prior to the industrial revolution,
scientists thought that the atmosphere was untouched by man–made pollutants until they found air
bubbles hidden in the core of Greenland's ice shelf (Stromberg). After finding this essential
development, scientist began to reconsider the initial cause of pollution and how to decrease the
lasting effects of it. With this discovery, pollution was traced back to Ancient Rome and it was
decided that globally we needed a new approach for dealing with this problem. There are numerous
types of pollution and they each have a devastating effect on the global climate. A scientist has been
working on ways to re–direct the negative effects of pollution and at the same time encourage
people to try to find ways to do that part to help with this effort. We all can find some way to
improve the world and decrease pollution.
The problems with air pollution seem to be one of the largest most discussed situations. The Natural
Resource Defense Council (NRDC) air pollution is the release of pollutants into the air that is
damaging human health and world. There are many forms of air pollution and smog and soot are
two of them. These two are discussed more when dissecting this problem due to them being the
most common forms of air position, which are also the most detrimental of them all. When the
sunlight and emissions from fossil fuels interact that is how smog is created. The creation of soot
formed from smoke, dust, allergens and other particles are spread throughout the air in gas or solid
form. Methane is also a huge component of the

The environmental issue I choose is pollution. There is different types of pollution. There is water
pollution, air pollution, soil pollution, thermal pollution, radioactive pollution, noise pollution, and
light pollution. Every type of pollution is bad and it is causing health issues and even worst, deaths.
Pollution is A very serious subject that is harmful to people and the environment. It is killing A lot
of people. 4.6 million people die each year from pollution. Each year 1.2 trillion gallons of
untreated sewage, stormwater, and industrial waste are dumped into US water.Pollution is one of
the most biggest global killers affecting over 100 million people. Over 1 million seabirds and
100,000 sea mammals are killed by pollution every year. Approximately 40% of lakes in America
are too polluted for fishing, aquatic life, or swimming. Pollution occurs when pollutants contaminate
the natural surroundings. Pollution disturbs our ecosystem. Air Pollution is the most dangerous
forms of pollution. It occurs due to many of reasons, excessive burning of fuel, cooking, driving
and other types of activities that are similar. They release A huge amount of chemical substances in
the air everyday; these pollute the air. Also smoke from chimneys, factories, vehicles or burning
basically occurs due to coal burning. Air pollution is breaking down our ozone layer. There is
different types of pollution but environmental pollution has been around for centuries and it is
affecting the environment. People should care about this topic because pollution is a serious
problem and it causes many deaths and illnesses.
The worst types of pollution are air pollution and water pollution, they don't only harm our
environment but also our health. It's really scary to think about because around 15,000 people in
the world each day die because of water pollution and 2.4 million people in the world die each year
because of air pollution. So this is a big environmental issue. The causes of water pollution is water
and sewage waste. World population is increasing each year. This is causing huge environmental and
health damage. Most water pollution doesn't begin in the water it starts with what stuff filters and
enters through the water.

Not disposing of a broken cell phone the right way has many negative effects. It can create many

Electronics are not the only type of waste that causes a major problem. There is a liquid waste,
solid waste, hazardous waste, organic waste and recyclable waste. Not all waste is harmful, but it
depends on if they can be or are disposed of correctly. Liquid waste can be classified from water

corrosive. Some examples of these are equipment that contains mercury, batteries, pesticides, and

People are likely to deny all the information, which they do not want to hear and to believe that it

that can affect the humanity in one moment in the same way smoking does not kill the smoker from
the first day of addiction. However, the fact of the existence of the phenomenon remains undeniable,
and every human makes his or her contribution to the development of the issue, which can be both
adverse and beneficial. Although it is reasonably believed that climate change is affected by the use
of cars, emissions from factories and the growing amount of garbage, there are hidden factors that

With the flow of life, people affect the planet, which does not remain the same as it was hundreds of

sometimes it happens faster like it was with the invention of machines and their implementation to

As trees are natural purifiers of air, deforestation worsens the problem of pollution.
With the development of trade and business there has been a corresponding increase in the
transportation system. With the building up of vast network of roads in almost every country, the

types of vehicles that run on petrol or diesel give out huge quantity of smoke in the air every day.
These smokes contain many harmful chemicals and vitiate the air. Big cities have been the most
affected by air pollution because of presence of large number vehicles. The air in the metropolitan
cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai is so much polluted that many people suffer from
diseases like asthma, cancer, eye burning, skin rashes, etc. Another major cause of air pollution is
the burning of wood and coal in household for cooking. The LPG gas is available in cities and

Automobiles like these are around the world everyday, and their exhaust destroys our air everyday.
Our environment is a major aspect of our life today. Many of us don't take our
Earth seriously and think that as long as pollution doesn't hurt them they can go ahead and throw
garbage on the ground or spill oil down the drain. Well to many people have that theory and they are
killing off our Earth and also physically harming themselves from the air they breath and the water
they swim in. Our Earth is fragile like a human and people don't know. There are many different

towns. Holland spent millions of dollars to put up "dikes" which are big barriers in the water to

With the ocean getting deeper coastal cites all around the world could flood, billions of dollars

Water pollution is another major aspect of environmental pollution.
Water pollution is scary because over 75% of our Earth is covered by the ocean.
Water pollution comes from many different sources around the world. One major pollutant that

wood and gas burning fireplaces, gas fires), tobacco burn, office machineries and a diversity of
other crops used in daily events. (Anastasia Dimitriou and Vasilia Christidou, 2011)
In addition, outdoor pollutants are also found in indoor places, such as radon (a natural trace
component of soil and ground). The main foundation of indoor air pollution is household burning of
coal or biomass for cooking and warming. It is projected that more than half of the world's
population trusts on animal dung, wood, crop waste, or coal to meet their most elementary energy
needs. The main indoor pollutants that can almost be drawn in any home are between others

Pollution and Environment Essay
Preserving Our Environment
Many people assume that the environment is in no danger. They believe that with advancing
technology, we don't need to worry about renewing natural resources, recycling, and finding new
ways to produce energy. They argue that one person in the world does not make a large difference. In
actuality, each individual's contribution greatly affects our environment. Our natural resources are
running low, and we must work together to save them and the Earth from ruin.
Recycling is so important in the effort to preserve our environment for future generations. We are
running out of places to put landfills. My neighbor, Nick, believes that the U.S. has enough land for
our own waste, and we...show more content...
Not only does this use up 85% of their waste, leaving behind only ash, but it also preserves the
fossil fuels that they would have otherwise had to use for energy to produce heat. They have been
forced to come up with ideas like this because they do not have enough space for landfills, and as a
result, they have greatly contributed to helping the environment. An additional alternative source of
energy comes from the sun. Already there is talk about solar powered cars, and many people
currently have solar panels installed in their homes. This eliminates the need to use large amounts of
fossil fuels for heat and power.
Recycling also saves natural resources such as trees that are cut down and not replaced at a quick
enough rate. According to Greenpeace, in the past thirty years, fifteen percent of the Amazon rain
forest has been destroyed by logging. Not only are the trees gone, but lost forever are the thousand
of species of plants and animals that call the Amazon home. It is also infringing on the livelihood
of Native Indian tribes that live deep in the forest. Recycling the paper we already have would cut
down dramatically on our need to produce more, and saving these precious natural areas would then
be possible.
Nick also argues that recycling takes too much time and is an inconvenience. The simple answer to
this is a call for better methods of recycling. Easier access and more locations would

Environment And Pollution Essay

  • 1. Pollution and the Environment Essay Pollution and the Environment Pollution occurs when harmful substances or products are introduced into the environment. It is a major problem in America, as well as the rest of the world. Pollution damages the environment and does harm to humans and other animals. It creates many problems, from lung cancer to the greenhouse effect. Oblivious to the damage they cause, rednecks continue to throw trash out of the window instead of walking two feet to a garbage can. The laziness of these types of people creates problems for the entire planet. People must realize that something needs to change. Why does our world continue to become more polluted year after year? Obviously, most pollution comes from automobiles. The most famous...show more content... In today's society when something gets the slightest bit old, it must be thrown away and a new one replaces it. The citizens blame the government for their trash problem. The over consumers must take the blame for this situation. The last major source of pollution is in the businesses. In a few rare instances, businesses dumped their waste products into streams, lakes, or rivers. This may seem like a relatively small occurrence that does not affect most people. However, horrible consequences result every time a company pollutes a water system. Mutations and human death have occurred as a direct result of illegal dumping. Illegal dumping contaminates our drinking water and soil. The pollutants dumped by industry are so concentrated that a single barrel can destroy an entire lake's ecosystem. Despite the severity of the pollution problem, it can be solved. Individuals can do a lot to save the environment. Instead of driving, carpool with a friend or take a bus. This will not only cut down on the pollution due to cars each year, but will also save money on gas. Taking the time to sort your trash and placing it in the appropriate recycling bins can also do a lot for the environment. Recycling reduces the amount of waste piled into landfills. Also, pay attention to the products you buy and how they are packaged. Do not buy items that will be thrown away due to lack of use. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Environmental Pollution Essay Global warming is caused by human activity. This global warming in turn, causes hurricanes. The hurricanes will destroy the human population main resources. This will lower people into having less important resources such as: food, shelter and water. Having less resources could lead to poverty, which is known in developing countries such as: India, Philippines, and Haiti . There are also changes in the oceans that are being affected. This change occurring could lead to the ocean over flooding due to contaminating the ocean caused by humans because humans have an impact on the environment. Humanity needs to cut down the production in the coal industry because people are burning the coal; this is causing the coal to pollute the air people breath. To avoid the problem of deforestation, people should stop cutting down the trees in the forest. The cutting of the trees is causing deforestation, the trees are a helpful resource in the environment. According to an article by Struck states, "Experts say deforestation threatens a delicate balance in which forests act as Earth's lungs: absorbing carbon dioxide – the biggest contributor to climate change – and expelling oxygen" (29). This effect is causing more of the air to become contaminated by carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a harmful gas that is released into the air. The trees helps keep down the carbon dioxide in the air; this releases oxygen, so we can breathe clean air. As the trees are being cut in the forest it releases Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Solution Of Environmental Pollution Environment pollution is a wide–reaching problem. It is likely to influence the health of human population to a great extent. There has been an increasing global concern over the public health impacts which are attributed to environmental pollution, particularly the global burden of disease. According to the reports of WHO (World Health Organization), most of the diseases that are faced by the mankind today are due to a prolonged exposure to environmental pollution. Environment pollution is a worldwide problem and its potential to influence the health of human populations is great (Fereidoun et al, 2007; Progressive Insurance, 2005.). Many of the environmental related diseases may be acquired during the childhood itself and may me manifested in the adulthood. These diseases may not be detected in the childhood. There are many causes to environmental pollution. One of them is improper management of soil waste. It is one of the major causes of degradation in the developing cities. Many cities do not have proper disposal facilities or sewage systems. Such disposal of wastes can be radioactive, toxic and very infectious. Pollution, in simple terms, can be defined as contamination of the environment, bringing about adverse changes and effects to the ecosystem. We normally observe that the municipal waste dumping sites are set aside for waste disposal somewhere outside the city. The waste management of any city plays a vital role in this regard. Depending on the waste management Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Water Pollution Essay: Saving The Environment Sometimes it is forgotten in daily life how important the world around us actually is. The water we drink, the air we breathe, and the land we live on is all we have. The problem though is a lot of business owners forget that when they are developing kickbacks or loopholes to bypass laws that protect the environment and in doing so is saving them copious amounts of money. By accomplishing this, it is ruining the one thing that grants us prosperity and life, the Earth. In a public remark, by former president Bill Clinton, he had this to say, "...Creating thriving companies and new jobs doesn't have to come at the expense of the air we breathe, the water we drink... or the natural landscape in which we live." Although industrialization is great for the economic growth and development for a country, this can also be harmful for the environment itself. One of the most common issues with businesses and the environment is the disposal of waste. Not only do communities itself make an immense amount of waste, but also corporations that manufacture certain products or goods. Due to the costs certain companies accrue from environmental laws, companies often times find more efficient and cost effective ways to produce their goods, but this also lays waste to an extreme amount of byproducts that tarnish our environment. Most of these byproducts are also being burned at waste disposal sites that create air pollution and in turn pollutes our water supply and land. The problem in most Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Environmental Pollution Essays Environmental Pollution Our environment is affected by our daily actions. The earth is plagued with land, air and water pollution. Some of the problems we face on earth are: deforestation, nuclear waste, acid rain, global warming, overpopulation and some animals are endangered. Air pollution has many different sources. Power–generated plants, oil refineries, chemical plants, and steel mills contribute to about 140 million tons of pollutants into the air every year. Automobiles account for at least 80 percent, ofair pollution; the heaviest polluter. Another type of air pollution is acid rain. Acid rain is formed when sulfur and nitrogen are distributed from factories, automobiles and power plants. The sulfur and ...show more content... Solid waste such as tires, diapers and plastics are buried in landfills each year. It takes generations for them to decompose. Today, there are laws that penalize manufacturing plants that dispose hazardous wastes. These plants dump these hazardous materials in nearby woods or dump them into streams (this practice was common fifty years ago). We need rain forests for survival. Rain forests pump fresh oxygen into the atmosphere, protect soil from erosion and absorb carbon dioxide. Rain forests cover 4.5 billion acres and accounts for 7 percent of the earth's land. The Amazon in Brazil is the largest rain forest (2 million acres). The fate of today's rain forest is in trouble. A process called deforestation is the leading problem. Deforestation is the process of cutting down forests to use the land for farming and grazing cattle. Farmers "slash and burn" forest turning them into desert land. Brazil promised to implement laws that were tougher to protect the Amazon. These laws cut deforestation in half. By 1994, the burning started again and in 1996 the burning was at it's worst. The ozone layer blocks harmful ultraviolet rays, that comes from the sun. Chemicals released from the earth are depleting the ozone layer. Skin cancer is on the rise as a result of the depletion of the ozone layer. Scientist states that every 1 percent of depletion of the ozone layer, the rate of skin cancer will rise 5 Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Environmental Pollution Essay "Pollution is nothing but the resources we are not harvesting. We allow them to be dispersed because we have been ignorant of their value." – R. Buckminster Fuller. A bus company in Great Britain has taken this quote into full effect. The Bath Bus Company has created a first ever "Bio–Bus" and will transfer its passengers between the Bath and Bristol Airport. This 40–seat bus runs completely on biomethane gas which is generated through food waste and human waste. This bus fills two needs: transporting passengers and improving air quality. By recycling an undesirable product, this bus company has created something that improves their society (Pollution Control). There are many more examples of countries and communities developing a product or plan to improve the quality of their life. In fact, environmental protection has dated back to the beginning of ancient civilizations and has continued to be an important concept in today's society. George Perkins Marsh, an American diplomat and philologist, drafted a book titled Man and Nature. In his writings, he explained the downfall of many ancient civilizations was caused by environmental abuse. From deforesting hillsides to eroding their soils, many of the early civilizations destroyed their natural fertility. As we look back in history, it is important that we learn from our mistakes. The Civilian Conservation Corps, created in 1933, was developed as a public relief group, targeted for single, unemployed men. As part of FDR's Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Pollution not only damages the environment, but damages us also. It has cause many problems ranging from lung cancer to the greenhouse effect. It is all among us but we continue to live in our own filth. What is the reason behind this flawed logic? In this paper I will examine the problems and solutions for this issue. Automobiles are undeniable the greatest source of pollution. The noise pollution created by cars is immense. Another polluting effect of cars is the heat it creates. This heat makes it unpleasant to be near the car while its running. And of course the most famous...show more content... American citizens throw away millions of tons of garbage each year, and this trash has to go somewhere. While there are projects underway to clean and reuse this refuse most of it gets dumped into huge landfills. These landfills are disgusting festering blisters on our country's landscape. But people continue to consume and throw away more and more in the name of convenience. As they see it, when things get old, throw it away and get a new one. They blame the government for the trash problem, but the truth blame should be placed on themselves. The last great source of pollution lays in the businesses. Although not common, businesses have been known to dump their waste products into streams, lakes, and rivers. This may seem like a relatively small occurrence that really is not your concern, but you're wrong. Each time one of these companies pollutes there are horrible consequences to pay. Mutations, destroyed ecosystems, and human death have all occurred as a direct result of illegal dumping. It contaminates our drinking water and soil. It causes entire communities of humans (not to mention animals) to move on to new places not to return for at least a century. • 8. Air and Water Pollution essay INTRODUCTION OF AIR POLLUTION The chemical composition of the atmosphere today is so different as compared to the atmosphere that existed before the Industrial Revolution, 1760 – 1830. To define air pollution, we should first consider all those sources that release harmful chemicals into the atmosphere and alter its chemical composition. First of all, all anthropogenic (man–made) emissions are air pollutants. Next, is the natural emission which can be divided into biogenic and geogenic. Biogenic emissions result from the living world such as volatile organic compound emissions from forests and CH4 emissions from swamp. On the other hand, geogenic emissions are from the non–living world, such as volcanic emissions, sea–salt emissions, and...show more content... –automobiles are the largest sources of VOCs for the reaction–concentrations tend to peak in the afternoon, causing eye irritation and aggravation of respiratory diseases Lead (Pb)–Pb levels in the air has decreased considerably with gradual elimination of lead in gasoline worldwide –leaded gasoline combustion –combustion of solid waste, coal and oils –emissions from iron and steel production and lead smelters –tobacco smoke–affect blood and kidney –affect the nervous, immune, cardiovascular and reproductive systems The above table was constructed based on the information obtained from : Daly, A. and P. "Employers lose 14,000 work days every year when asthma keeps adults out of the workplace"(Natural Resource Defense Council). The number of hospital visits has increased due to the many health effects of pollution costing billions of dollars to the public and government. "The Federal government and private companies have spent $31 billion dollars on air pollution clean–up"(Crandall, Robert). "Steps are being taken to reduce sulfur and nitrogen emissions. Many governments are now requiring energy producers to clean smoke stacks by using scrubbers that trap pollutants before they are released into the air" (Briney, Amanda). Companies are selling electric cars to help cut down on pollution caused from the gas used in standard cars. The EPA has put laws into effect for major industrial companies,Power plants are required to cut emissions that cause acid rain. • 10. Essay On Environmental Pollution 1.1Environmental Pollution For many centuries, environmental pollution had been a fact of life but it transforms to a real problem when industrial revolution began. Environmental pollution is described to be the contamination of the physical and biological components of the earth/atmosphere system to such an extent that normal environmental processes are adversely affected according to Kemp (1998). Wikipedia (2008) defined Pollution to be an introduction of contaminants into the environment that cause harm or discomfort to humans or other living organisms, or that damage the environment which can come in the form of chemical substances, or energy such as noise, heat or light. Whereas Pollutants can be naturally occurring substances or...show more content... Improper handling of solid waste and indiscriminate disposal in open spaces, road margins, tank beds, and etcetera, give rise to numerous potential risks to the environment and to human health. Direct health risks mainly concern those working in the field without using proper gloves, uniforms, and etcetera; a high percentage of waste workers and individuals who live near or on disposal sites are infected with gastrointestinal parasites, worms, and related organisms (SWMM, 2000). For the public, the main risks to health are indirect and related to poor water, land, and air quality. In addition, infrequent collection of waste provides an attractive breeding ground for flies and rats (SWMM, 2000). The most obvious environmental damage caused by solid waste is aesthetic, i.e. waste that litter public areas is ugly and smelly. A more serious risk is the transfer of pollution to ground water and land as well as the pollution of air from improper burning of waste. Many waste activities generate greenhouse gases; e.g., landfills generate methane and refuse fleets are significant sources of carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide. Open burning dumpsites produce volatilised heavy metals (e.g. mercury and lead), dioxins, and furan. Leachate from unlined and uncovered dumpsites contaminates surface and ground waters (Cointreau, 2006). A damaged local environment will first hit the most Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Water is important to the human body. As we not only depend on it to live it helps our cells to function properly. Not having clean water can hinder our development but can affect our organs as well.As that being said low income communities in Australia will most likely have less access to clean water as opposed to those who are of high income. Types of human pollution would be air, water, soil, radioactive, thermal, noise, and light. Each of these forms of pollution has been known to cause the enormous amount of concern for the environment. There are laws in place now that are limiting pollution and to help control the issue. Environmental pollution is a serious problem we are facing globally. It is the debate concerning pollution, which we have been pondering for the past century. Prior to the industrial revolution, scientists thought that the atmosphere was untouched by man–made pollutants until they found air bubbles hidden in the core of Greenland's ice shelf (Stromberg). After finding this essential development, scientist began to reconsider the initial cause of pollution and how to decrease the lasting effects of it. With this discovery, pollution was traced back to Ancient Rome and it was decided that globally we needed a new approach for dealing with this problem. There are numerous types of pollution and they each have a devastating effect on the global climate. A scientist has been working on ways to re–direct the negative effects of pollution and at the same time encourage people to try to find ways to do that part to help with this effort. We all can find some way to improve the world and decrease pollution. The problems with air pollution seem to be one of the largest most discussed situations. The Natural Resource Defense Council (NRDC) air pollution is the release of pollutants into the air that is damaging human health and world. There are many forms of air pollution and smog and soot are two of them. These two are discussed more when dissecting this problem due to them being the most common forms of air position, which are also the most detrimental of them all. When the sunlight and emissions from fossil fuels interact that is how smog is created. The creation of soot formed from smoke, dust, allergens and other particles are spread throughout the air in gas or solid form. Methane is also a huge component of the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Essay On Environmental Pollution The environmental issue I choose is pollution. There is different types of pollution. There is water pollution, air pollution, soil pollution, thermal pollution, radioactive pollution, noise pollution, and light pollution. Every type of pollution is bad and it is causing health issues and even worst, deaths. Pollution is A very serious subject that is harmful to people and the environment. It is killing A lot of people. 4.6 million people die each year from pollution. Each year 1.2 trillion gallons of untreated sewage, stormwater, and industrial waste are dumped into US water.Pollution is one of the most biggest global killers affecting over 100 million people. Over 1 million seabirds and 100,000 sea mammals are killed by pollution every year. Approximately 40% of lakes in America are too polluted for fishing, aquatic life, or swimming. Pollution occurs when pollutants contaminate the natural surroundings. Pollution disturbs our ecosystem. Air Pollution is the most dangerous forms of pollution. It occurs due to many of reasons, excessive burning of fuel, cooking, driving and other types of activities that are similar. They release A huge amount of chemical substances in the air everyday; these pollute the air. Also smoke from chimneys, factories, vehicles or burning basically occurs due to coal burning. Air pollution is breaking down our ozone layer. There is different types of pollution but environmental pollution has been around for centuries and it is affecting the environment. People should care about this topic because pollution is a serious problem and it causes many deaths and illnesses. The worst types of pollution are air pollution and water pollution, they don't only harm our environment but also our health. It's really scary to think about because around 15,000 people in the world each day die because of water pollution and 2.4 million people in the world die each year because of air pollution. So this is a big environmental issue. The causes of water pollution is water and sewage waste. World population is increasing each year. This is causing huge environmental and health damage. Most water pollution doesn't begin in the water it starts with what stuff filters and enters through the water. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. II. Introduction When many people throw away their trash do they ever consider where it might end up? No matter where someone deposits their trash it almost always ends up in the same place. Depending on if their trash ends in the proper disposal area. For many people, it can be an easy task to throw away their trash and never think twice about it. Does one ever consider the journey of the so–called trash? The trash can end up in a landfill or even range to the ocean. Waste disposal is an important environmental issue at hand. Without a major change, it can hurt the earth and the people who live on the planet and even the environment. What many people fail to realize is the effect that they have on the planet. If they don't take care of it...show more content... Not disposing of a broken cell phone the right way has many negative effects. It can create many environmental problems. Electronic trash is becoming more and more a bigger threat every day. A phone is filled with so many toxins just like any other electronic device. When it makes its way to a landfill the materials that these electronic devices are made out of can potentially leak. With that in mind. It can cause a whole bunch of problems for the ecosystem, plant life, animals, and even the food supplies. Which will end up causing way more problems than the everyday person needs? Electronics are not the only type of waste that causes a major problem. There is a liquid waste, solid waste, hazardous waste, organic waste and recyclable waste. Not all waste is harmful, but it depends on if they can be or are disposed of correctly. Liquid waste can be classified from water wash to liquid cleaning products. Solid wastes can be just normal rubbish such as newspapers, old tires, food waste and even broken furniture. Hazardous is waste that can be threatening to the public and or the environment. Hazardous waste can range from reactive, toxic, inflammable, and corrosive. Some examples of these are equipment that contains mercury, batteries, pesticides, and lamps. Some waste can be disposed of by incineration or having a designated piece of land such as landfill to dispose of the waste (Common types of waste with examples). But these methods do offer many Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Essay On Environmental Pollution Javier Herrera Daramola English 1302 25 December 2017 Environmental Pollution People are likely to deny all the information, which they do not want to hear and to believe that it can concern anybody else but not him or her directly. The problem of climate change is not the issue that can affect the humanity in one moment in the same way smoking does not kill the smoker from the first day of addiction. However, the fact of the existence of the phenomenon remains undeniable, and every human makes his or her contribution to the development of the issue, which can be both adverse and beneficial. Although it is reasonably believed that climate change is affected by the use of cars, emissions from factories and the growing amount of garbage, there are hidden factors that encourage pollution and hurt the planet, including people's growing passion for traveling, and even their diets on a par with the way of life. With the flow of life, people affect the planet, which does not remain the same as it was hundreds of years ago. Different periods of history influence climate change in different ways and while sometimes it happens faster like it was with the invention of machines and their implementation to the industrial production, the other timespan demonstrates a slowed down pace. However, the fact of the influence of different kinds of pollution on the planet should be nearly the most significant concern of the humanity since it is the reason for which the future life on the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. In a broader term environment means everything that surrounds us. It includes living or biotic life, e.g. plants and animals and non–living or biotic components like air, water and soil. Environmental pollution refers to degradation of air and water by mixing of harmful and undesirable pollutants in them. Today, pollution has become the biggest global problem because it has grown in magnitude and threatens to endanger all life on the living planet. As a matter of fact the gravity of situation created by pollution worldwide has been voiced at many national and international levels by various dignitaries and organisations to emphasise the need to realise the problem in all its seriousness and take whatever measures necessary in all earnest....show more content... As trees are natural purifiers of air, deforestation worsens the problem of pollution. With the development of trade and business there has been a corresponding increase in the transportation system. With the building up of vast network of roads in almost every country, the number of vehicles has increased many times. Buses, trucks, cars, two–wheelers, and many other types of vehicles that run on petrol or diesel give out huge quantity of smoke in the air every day. These smokes contain many harmful chemicals and vitiate the air. Big cities have been the most affected by air pollution because of presence of large number vehicles. The air in the metropolitan cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai is so much polluted that many people suffer from diseases like asthma, cancer, eye burning, skin rashes, etc. Another major cause of air pollution is the burning of wood and coal in household for cooking. The LPG gas is available in cities and towns. In rural areas, wood, coal and kerosene are the only source to make fire and cook food. The rural hearths are therefore another cause of air pollution. The problem is worsened with the fact that trees are being cut to get fire Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Our environment is a major aspect of our life today. Many of us don't take our Earth seriously and think that as long as pollution doesn't hurt them they can go ahead and throw garbage on the ground or spill oil down the drain. Well to many people have that theory and they are killing off our Earth and also physically harming themselves from the air they breath and the water they swim in. Our Earth is fragile like a human and people don't know. There are many different types of environmental pollution (e.g. Water, air, atmospheric.) Scientists believe that all...show more content... Air pollution causes global warming which scientist believe is making the Earth warmer and melting ice up in the South and North Pole. The country Holland has had water from the ocean got too high for them and flooded into towns. Holland spent millions of dollars to put up "dikes" which are big barriers in the water to prevent their town to be completely submerged. With the ocean getting deeper coastal cites all around the world could flood, billions of dollars would be spent to try to prevent it, but in a while it could not be stopped. Instead of waiting and having to spend all this money why don't we put it together today and try different ways of preventing air pollution, it would be much easier than all the trouble of stopping flooding. Water pollution is another major aspect of environmental pollution. Water pollution is scary because over 75% of our Earth is covered by the ocean. Water pollution comes from many different sources around the world. One major pollutant that destroys the ocean is oil spills. The oil from an oil spill kills hundreds of sea animals from fish, to whales, to birds. Below is a small list of just some of the major oil spills. Notice how many tons were spilled into our ocean... • 19. Environmental Problems: Air Pollution Essay Introduction: Air pollution is among the critical challenges facing modern societies and is one of the most pressing environing mental problems. Air pollution is accountable for major harmful effects on human strength, animal survives, natural ecosystems and the man–made environment. It is also responsible for climate change due to the improved greenhouse effect, acid rain, and the reduction of the ozone layer that inaugurate important global environmental problems. Air pollution occurs both outdoors and indoors and is caused by human activities and natural mechanisms. Although air quality degradation because of air pollution is a global problem that threatens humanity's wellbeing overall, it is largely associated with environmental bias....show more content... (Anastasia Dimitriou and Vasilia Christidou, 2011) Indoor air pollution: Indoor air pollution mentions to the amount of chemical, biological and physical pollutants in the air confidential a building. Indoor air pollution can often be inferior to outdoor air pollution. There is a extensive range of indoor air pollutant causes in houses including building resources, hard–pressed wood goods and equipment, dominant heating and cooling systems, several individual care or household cleaning products, painting colors, solvents, heating or cooking applications (stoves, wood and gas burning fireplaces, gas fires), tobacco burn, office machineries and a diversity of other crops used in daily events. (Anastasia Dimitriou and Vasilia Christidou, 2011) In addition, outdoor pollutants are also found in indoor places, such as radon (a natural trace component of soil and ground). The main foundation of indoor air pollution is household burning of coal or biomass for cooking and warming. It is projected that more than half of the world's population trusts on animal dung, wood, crop waste, or coal to meet their most elementary energy needs. The main indoor pollutants that can almost be drawn in any home are between others formaldehyde, asbestos, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Pollution and Environment Essay Preserving Our Environment Many people assume that the environment is in no danger. They believe that with advancing technology, we don't need to worry about renewing natural resources, recycling, and finding new ways to produce energy. They argue that one person in the world does not make a large difference. In actuality, each individual's contribution greatly affects our environment. Our natural resources are running low, and we must work together to save them and the Earth from ruin. Recycling is so important in the effort to preserve our environment for future generations. We are running out of places to put landfills. My neighbor, Nick, believes that the U.S. has enough land for our own waste, and we...show more content... Not only does this use up 85% of their waste, leaving behind only ash, but it also preserves the fossil fuels that they would have otherwise had to use for energy to produce heat. They have been forced to come up with ideas like this because they do not have enough space for landfills, and as a result, they have greatly contributed to helping the environment. An additional alternative source of energy comes from the sun. Already there is talk about solar powered cars, and many people currently have solar panels installed in their homes. This eliminates the need to use large amounts of fossil fuels for heat and power. Recycling also saves natural resources such as trees that are cut down and not replaced at a quick enough rate. According to Greenpeace, in the past thirty years, fifteen percent of the Amazon rain forest has been destroyed by logging. Not only are the trees gone, but lost forever are the thousand of species of plants and animals that call the Amazon home. It is also infringing on the livelihood of Native Indian tribes that live deep in the forest. Recycling the paper we already have would cut down dramatically on our need to produce more, and saving these precious natural areas would then be possible. Nick also argues that recycling takes too much time and is an inconvenience. The simple answer to this is a call for better methods of recycling.
