By Bernie Cahiles-Magkilat
QUANTIFIABLE IMPACT
[ . . .]
Cunanan relates how a group of 25 housewives in Guadalupe Viejo
successful put up a cooperative that sells beta-carotene fortified cupcakes
using a TRC developed technology.
“It gives them a lot of hope,” says Cunanan. Another entrepreneurial
endeavor that is now thriving is a candle figurine making in Fairview. That
is another TRC technology.
“Technology is supposed to make businesses more efficient, cost effective
and produce excellent results,” says Cunanan.
They are now developing a new technology using the water lilies that
clogged up the Mindanao River causing flooding in that area. They have
also developed some technologies for various bamboo applications.

Cunanan noted that chopsticks supplied to local restaurants are imported
and only a small portion is supplied by local production. The challenge
though is to plant more bamboos to have a stable supply of raw materials.
Bamboo plants have also been proven to help soil erosion.
