Writing An Argumentative Paper
In chapter five we learn about how several authors when writing on a topic chooses sides and how
they argue their position against others. The author writes for a purpose as well as an audience. The
purpose of the author choosing sides is to allow readers to alter the way they view the issue; maybe
in a better or worse way or even the same. Sometimes the reading also helps those who lack
knowledge on the issue settle on a side, in addition, those who have yet to decide on a side. In order
for the author to capture a reader's attention, they need to establish the issue from the beginning in
the title and the first few paragraphs or sentences of the paper. Using questions, statistics, quotes, or
anything that may capture the reader's attention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everybody can believe what they want to believe, but the reason for you to believe in that thing
comes from somewhere and is not always the same as somebody else. The way the author explicates
his/her motive will guide people to agree or disagree with them, and in the argumentative paper, you
can determine what side the author has chosen by looking at the thesis and supportive paragraphs.
Using logos, ethos, and pathos an author can have better chances of convincing the audience to their
benefit, by providing persuasive reasons, convincing them that what they are writing is credible
making the author trustable, and by connecting the reader to the writing in a sentimental way.
Stating the counterclaim of the other side of the argument gives the readers the impression of an
open minded author and makes them feel like they are not being forced to believe on just the
author's side. Additionally the author is guaranteed on using the opposing sides counterclaim
whenever they have a weak outlook on the argument to make themselves look more precise in their
writing. The author can also him/herself accept the other side's views, but at the end of the day they
state their side clearer and more effectively supported. In an argumentative paper the author will
make the writing simple to follow by providing the reader with transitional words and indications.
The author will use these concepts to help demonstrate to the reader that everything they have stated
in their piece is

Argumentative Essay On Painkillers
Argumentative Essay: The Problem With Painkillers
Have you ever felt pain? The kind that inhibits you from getting through your day, and doing what
you need to? Well, it pains me to say it, but everyone will feel pain at least once in their life, and
some people have it worse than others. People with severe or chronic pains usually will go to
painkillers to relieve their pain and stress, but it's easy to get addicted. Worst case scenario is that a
person could look to heroine in order to fill their craving for pain medication, after their prescription
is finished. It's easy to get hooked, and hard to resist, which is why even though helpful, pain
medication can be deadly in the long run. Studies show that about nine percent of Americans use
pain medications, and 2%–3% of Americans abuse pain medications (not 2%–3% of painkiller
users, but the general public). Prescription drugs are also legally acceptable, even though they can
be considered addictive. They are hard to detect, and it's not as easy for people to overdose
considering there is a given dose with the prescription. Prescription drugs can be as bad as
recreational drugs, but they've slipped under the noses of officials because ... Show more content on

When people get addicted to these drugs, the worst case scenario can occur, and it is easily seen that
many Americans get addicted based on the daily number of deaths. Painkillers are supposed to be
helpful, but if they're causing mass death, are they really helping anyone, or just hurting society? So
many problems can be caused by painkillers that it's almost a fact that you're better off without
them. The drugs can drive people insane if they go without them, and all the drugs are doing at this
point is ending lives they're supposed to be helping. Thanks to the high addiction rate, painkillers are
doing the opposite of what they're supposed to, and causing people and their loved ones

Argumentative Research Paper I am an average highschool student who has decent grades who is
generally in the 3.0–3.5 GPA range. I am not like not like some students who really put in the effort
of studying, I will write notes if its an assignment, but I usually go based off on memory at best I'll
go over and read my notes once. If I use the strategies of flashcards, music, and rewriting I will
more likely be able to to be successful. Highly effective students create and review flashcards. They
will use it for terms and definitions. They use process of elimination, they go through the cards and

Most that I know who use this strategy listen to music with earbuds and listen to genres like rap. For
some students this is beneficial but some it isn't, it depends how and what type of music students
listen to. Student who listen to rap usually focus on the words not the work, this makes them more
likely to forget. Studies show classical music can be beneficial to students it help relax the mind and
body to help it focus, listening to Mozart before studying helps students memories; The Mozart
Effect. For me I usually like it quite when I am doing my work but sometimes I am in the mood for
music when doing my work. I use this strategy but not all the time while it hasn't help improve my
test scores significantly, It does help me focus and finish my work.("Do Or Don't: Studying While
Listening To Music") Similarly to flashcards rewriting is an efficient strategy that highly effective
students use. They will rewrite terms, formulas, etc. over and over again until they understand and
remember it. Studies show students who write their work develop a deeper memory rather than
student who dont or type on a computer. I don't typically rewrite all the time because it tedious and
time consuming but if I did start making this a habit I know I'll be more likely to remember.("For

Across the nation and world assisted suicide is an issue that has been gaining attention for several
years. With famous cases such as Jack Kevorkian it has become a household term and everyone has
an opinion. There are strong cases on both sides, but the bottom line is while it may sound good for
the present, it is not for the future. Assisted Suicide should not be legalized in Alabama as the
negative outcomes far exceed the positive outcomes in the areas of impact on society, politics and
medical education Assisted suicide is defined as the aiding and abetting in a person's suicide to

Assisted suicide looks good and innocent on paper, but the legalization of mercy killing carries a
dark side. Once that door is opened, it may not be easily closed. Regulations can be in place but
fraud is rampant in insurance and in the medical field no matter how much it is regulated. In Taking
Sides, Clashing Views in Lifespan Development, a statement is made that directly shows the
slippery slope of legalized assisted suicide; "In the words of an Australian politician, when we are
past our "best before" or "use by" date, we should be checked out quickly, cheaply and efficiently as
possible." This view sums up the argument of why not. The mystery of life and death are taken away
and humans become industrialized as a piece of meat. Legalization would also affect medical
education and training of physicians. The goal of doctors is to save lives, but if euthanasia is
legalized that could all change. The research and moral standings of society and the frailty of human
life support the fact that assisted suicide should not be legalized in Alabama. There are lines that we
just cannot cross. Margaret A. Somerville says in Taking Sides, Clashing Views in Lifespan
Development these impressive comments: "Medicine and the law are the principle institutions that
maintain respect for human life in a secular, pluralistic society. Legalizing euthanasia would involve
and harm both of them. Even in a secular society – indeed,

Career Cluster When I was in middle school, I wanted to be a massage therapist. I liked helping
relieve stress in peoples shoulders even when they did not know it was there. I knew that it made
good money and as I was aware, that was I was suppose to strive for. My parents made adequate
money doing things that helped people, and I wanted to do that while even making more. As my
years passed on, I had a very strong interest in photography. I was warned that I may not make as
much as an artist and maybe not even enough to survive, but I felt a passion just to find that it was a

Why isn't there an option to go into seventh grade "undecided?" After asking some students about
their decision making process, I found that it was not any easier to make that decision in middle
school than it will be for them in their adult years. Many people who agree with this new system
will argue that career clusters are helpful to a student who is exploring a particular field more in–
depth. While this is true, it is also restricting the students to only one particular field of study. Mr.
Burris states "The big fear I is that we are going back to where we were at the beginning of the last
century, where we started sorting and selecting students, and putting them on life paths that may
foreclose their options. " In my case, I would have learned next to nothing about photography while
studying with the rest of the students in the Health and Wellness cluster. If I had chosen photography
just to find that I'd rather help people than make art, I would have still been stuck in the Digital
Media and Art Design cluster rather than learning with my fellow students interested in Human and
Public services. Once a student chooses his or her career cluster, that student is not stuck in that for
the rest of his or her primary years. Each student may choose to switch his or her career

Argumentative writing allows students to use many skills all at once including: critical thinking,
forming ideas, evaluating views, using logic, and researching. Students need to learn how to write
argumentatively to be successful in college and employment. In these positions, individuals will be
asked to write a confident and strongly opinionated paper.
Persuasive – used to convince the reader to agree and based on personal opinion
Argumentative – presents viewpoints backed by research and evidence related to different issues

Dear Tunxis Community College Humanities faculty, The last four months I had been enrolled in a

content's in this folder are three examples of revised essays that I had wrote throughout the semester.
I will share with you all of my reflections and insights of each essay and what I have learned in the
whole process. The first essay that my Professor assigned was to be on the civil rights. My topic of
choice was music and its effect on the civil rights. This was an essay which I first really struggled
because I didn't know how to talk about such a topic in a way to really argue my point. I started out
by using the Gale database but I wasn't finding specific information that would help solidify my
essay. I turned to the library and picked up 33 Revolutions per Minute by Dorian Lynskey, which

My weak point in this essay was finding extremely specific sources of my topic. Because social
media is still a relatively new and growing tool, it was hard to find credible and research based

current problems with social media and a few studies of its effects on students in the classroom. I
also have a lengthy introduction to the topic in which I use a personal anecdote as well as
information about what social media actually is. I include this information because I believe the best
way to argue something is by first defining what that thing that your arguing actually is and why you
are arguing it. This is my favorite essay because I believe it's a non–traditional research essay, but it

cheap labor from foreign markets, free flow of capitol, and free trade. This can all be good for

Deductive Reasoning I think the best example of deductive reasoning is the general examples that
were listed that support the argument that leads to the conclusion that globalization is a good thing.
Globalization does more then several things that are beyond question at the end of the day. Firstly, it
creates jobs, which is a priority to the economic success of any market. And second, it improves
infrastructure while also allowing more people to live at a higher global level. I used deductive
reasoning by looking at how globalization affects businesses both positively and negatively and
weighed out the options.

Collaborative Introduction
Our topic is the societal impacts of technology, but because technology has drastically changed the
way the entire world functions, the three authors have decided to narrow focus on two aspects of
life: economics and mental health. While the two areas may seem incompatible, the economic state
of a country directly affects the mental health of its citizens, and the economic estate relies on
individuals. In order to accurately depict the two areas of effect, the author's focus is the United
States, but compare technology use and mental health rates in the United States to the technology
use and mental health rates of both China and Russia in order to generate a better understanding of
American society. By understanding the impact of technology on economics and mental health,
individuals are capable of making informed decisions about technology use, in doing so they
directly impact their surrounding society.

giving people the opportunity to live easier lives, comes the topic of the quality of life. The United
States has created the best quality of life for its citizens. Essentially, the United States gives the best

Essay #4: Argumentative Synthesis As we begin the 21st century, the preservation and concern with
our world environment becomes more of a highlighted issue. Authors such as Michael Pollan in his
article "Escape from the Western Diet", and Jonathan Safran Foer who wrote "Against Meat" both
mention in their essays the negative impact fast food has created on our environment due to the
method of factory farming. Foer quotes using reports from the Food and Agriculture Organization of
the UN "Factory farming has made animal agriculture the No. 1 contributor to global warming...and
one of the Top 2 or 3 causes of the most serious environmental problems, both global and local: air
and water pollution, deforestation, loss of biodiversity." (457) Looking at these facts one can see that
the issue on hand causes threat to our environment. Fast food has spawned a mass producing
industry know as factory farming which although supplies the needs of our fast food industry at a
rapid pace, causes pollution to our environment due to its poor disposal methods of waste. The ever
growing size of our world population and demand for resources to sustain this population has caused
us to resort to mass production of resources. Whether it be eggs, milk, beef or ham, these resources
are demanded in great quantity and at a rapid pace. This results in factory farming due to its ability
to mass–produce the desired resources. But what are factory farms and what do

generally like to read either realistic or science fiction and when I read something that interests me, I
like to read for hours without stopping and seldom do I like to take breaks while reading. In the past
year, I have tried to read harder books and more non–fiction to become a stronger reader. As a
writer, I often feel unmotivated due to my lack of interest in the topic. My attention span while

Argumentative Essay : Argumentative Writing
As long as humanity has differentiated view points, there will be the need for argument. Whether the
argument is about who will be the next leader of a free country or as simple as whether or not you
bleed AC Milan Rosso or Internazionale Azzurro in Milano, argument allows people to have
discussions while trying to prove each other wrong or convince someone to change their views.
Under the umbrella of arguing there is a very intelligent method to argue that is called argumentative
writing. With argumentative writing a person can put all of their ideas into an organized, well
developed paper that attracts and engages a reader. While most people prefer arguing in person, one
is susceptible to interruptions from the opposing side or as well as having to think on the fly and
keep their train of thought going while constantly countering what the opposition is saying; but with
argumentative writing one can freely express all their ideas without opposition until a person is
finished reading their paper. That being said, argumentative writing can be looked at metaphorically
like a dance. To explain, when you see another person at a club or an event that you think is cute,
you have to engage them in an icebreaking conversation. Then when the house band or DJ starts
playing you ask the person to dance. While dancing you have to keep up with the beat and keep your
partner actively engaged with the music. If you begin to slip up or lose the beat, your partner can

Argumentative essay presents a point of view about something and explains the reasons in order to
win readers' agreement. It is built around a specific statement (or main premise) that is debatable
within the field in which students are studying. In other words, at the center of an argumentative
essay is a statement with which readers may disagree. The argumentative essay will need to support
that statement in a manner that convinces the readers of its truth. It mainly strives to convince the

Argumentatives On Tattoos
Tattoos have become the newest trend in the 21st century, with 40 percent of millennials having a
tattoo. We have seen a major jump of people with tattoos in the past 20 years (npr.org). But even
though so many people have tattoos, many of them don't know the long term effects tattoos can have
on your body. I believe there are many reasons why tattoos should be banned in America.
First of all, tattoos can negatively affect your career, especially if your tattoo is visible. There are
many workplaces where body art is banned in its dress code. Body art isn't allowed in many
workplaces because some people feel uncomfortable around other people who have tattoos. Tattoos
can also determine which career paths you will take. A survey was conducted by careerbuilder.com,
to find out if tattoos had an effect on someone's career. Their studies showed that 31 percent of HR
managers said that visible tattoos has a negative impact on whether on not they will hire that person.
Tattoos can also have a negative effect on the owner or boss of the company because most of them
don't like tattoos. This is because many middle age and older Americans, which is how old many
business owners are, associate tattoos with bikers, convicts, and gang members (psychcentral.com).
Even if the owner isn't middle aged, many of the customers of the business are over the age of 40. In
addition, tattoos are very painful and expensive. The tattoo artists usually price the tattoo depending

of the divorce, the millennials have begun to push off the possibility of marriage altogether. With the
increasing divorce rate for "grey–haired" couple tripling over the past two centuries, there has been
a decrease in in divorces from the younger generation due to the lack of marriages from those under
thirty. Another issue the grown children of divorcing couple have to deal with is the stress of their
parents giving information about the divorce which causes boundary issues. The parents also tend to
lean on their child/children for emotional, and in some cases, financial support. Terry Gaspard, an
author and therapist, himself states "Adult children may be called on to help, but they shouldn't let it
break them, clear boundaries are important" (Saggio 2). Gaspard's point is millennials should not be
depended on to take care of their parents, or have the stress due to much information from the
divorce. Even children who grew up in a split home still carry the stress from their parents divorce.
Research has shown fourteen percent of children have felt like an outsider in their own home at
times along with having to take sides in their parents conflict's.Thirty–two percent felt like an adult
even though they were still a kid, and thirty–four felt it was stressful in their family (Lewin 5).

Argumentative brief justification. Can Human behavior be fully explained by genetics and brain
functions
Debate Con (No) position of claim.
In my my position I do not agree that human behavior can be fully explained by genetics and brain
function because of my reasons I do not agree. Firstly the brain is an interesting machine
I believed that The brain function and genetics can help explain human behavior but there are other
factors that can also full explain our behavior.
It can be explained by psychological function such as the cognitive ability, personality and interest.

The environment may includes physical and social factors that impinge upon the organism through

What comes to mind when someone mentions global warming? I bet it isn't how we can control it or
how we go about fixing it to make a better life for not only us but for our children. Feeling guilty
and concerned are a normal reaction to the global warming issues, but not caring is another really
concerning fact in its self. I'm not saying that you must be full blown out there protesting and
fighting to be proactive and care. If we don't care or start caring now we won't have a planet to call
home anymore. If the ice caps all melted away and the atmospheric temp would drop it would be a
catastrophic devastation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But wait a minute what is the government doing to help fix these problems and prevent it from
reverting back to the way it was before. The big issues lie with the fossil fuels that we use for
energy. Energy consist of power and gases that can be transferred into other objects. Even though we
have cut the emission gases, gases from the greenhouse and carbon dioxide we can't prove the right
or wrong way to go about fixing the process. Numerous scientists presume that the public is
accustomed to the science following the atmosphere and roughly people disagree or merely do not
understand how the contribution of extreme CO2 excess could contribute to a shift in the global
weather patterns. In Wilson's book, The Future of Life he states, "we have driven atmospheric
carbon dioxide to the highest levels in at least two hundred thousand years, unbalanced the nitrogen
cycle, and contributed to a global warming that will ultimately be bad news everywhere." (23) Does
global warming affect the life forms on Earth? We'll have you ever heard of the greenhouse effect,
it's the absorption of the energy that radiated from the Earth's surface by carbon dioxide and other
gases in the atmosphere, causing the atmosphere to become warmer. These greenhouse gases cause
the temp to rise thus causing issues for life forms on Earth. If we cannot control or get a handle on

Argumentative Essay Would it be different if publishing the book in 1951? The public interpretation
would be very different in publishing this in 1951 because of the changes like Jim Crow laws and
discrimination to our laws (or other). For example, back then they did not have very many laws as
we do today. For instances the Jim Crow laws, we do not have the crow laws anymore. Therefore, in
this case, it would be very different if published in 1951. It would be different if published in 1951
because of the discrimination. For example, 90% of them were colored people. Most of the time if
not all the time they were segregated. Brown vs. board of education states that there had to be

Argumentative Essay On Utilitarianism
UTILITARIANISM
I think that the topic of Utilitarianism is interesting to me since I find myself using the greatest
happiness principle throughout an everyday basis.Utilitarianism is defined as the ethical doctrine
that virtue is based on utility.Utilitarianism is essentially whichever action creates the most
happiness for the greatest number of people is the right answer. People have considered
utilitarianism controversial since not everyone agrees that the greatest happiness principle leads to
the right choice, but rather to the wrong decision. The way that we approach this issue could
potentially have severe consequences, on issues like immigration reform, campus carry, etc, if not
agreed upon with the use of the greatest happiness principle. In this argumentative paper, I will
argue that using utilitarianism and the greatest happiness principle would lead to the to the right
decision.
I place confidence in my decision that the use of utilitarianism and the greatest happiness principle
leads us to the right decision, because it is evident as an effective result for contemporary moral
issues such as; immigration reform, campus carry, and capital punishment. Before I explain my
reasoning into why my position in the argument is correct, I would like to explain the key words that
I will be using throughout the argumentative paper. For one, utilitarianism states that "a positive
value is happiness and negative value is suffering". Another term that I will be mentioning often
throughout the essay is the "Greatest Happiness Principle". This greatest happiness principle states
that "the morally right action maximizes happiness and minimizes suffering for everyone affected,
considered equally".The greatest happiness principle is impartial which means that "no one's
happiness or suffering is more important than anyone else's". Those who decide between which
pleasures are higher and lower are those who have tried both ( also know as the competent
judges). These competent judges will tend to prefer the higher pleasure.Their decisions are influence
on which option creates the most amount of happiness and the least amount of suffering. I believe
people should accept the use of the greatest happiness principle to find the

Argumentative Essay : ' Argumentative Paper '
TKAM Argumentative Paper America is a country with many beliefs that seem to be hypocritical,
for they appear to not be followed by it's citizens and government. It is common to hear about this
country being a place where everyone is respected and has their own rights. The National Anthem of
the United States of America proclaims this country as "The land of the free and the home of the
brave." But it is questionable whether this line is true or not in terms of it's significance. Much
oppression, injustice, and prejudice can be found today towards non–white people and those who are
socially "inferior." By the looks of things, it seems that America has not reached it's goal of
achieving true racial and social equality. There are many realistic examples of the modern United
States that show that the country will never achieve such goal. Indeed, one can see these events and
conclude that America is not the land of the free, for other groups of people are mistreated for being
of another race, or simply for being "inferior" to the eyes of society. Even some famous writings by
authors prove that the U.S. will never achieve true racial and social equality. Harper Lee's novel To
Kill A Mockingbird is an example of such proof. In the plotline, a girl named Scout watches how her
attorney–father tries to defend a black man against the prejudice of her hometown of Maycomb,
Alabama. With this information, one can see how even a fictional story can present the prejudice
and injustice

Argumentative Analysis
Technology is an amazing tool whether it be by texting a friend, e–mailing a relative or writing an
essay almost everyone has access to technology. Technology is great in many ways, especially by
bringing people closer together. Two topics will be focused on the first one how technology helps us
communicate with friends and family even more rapid than before. The second is about technology
and how it can help us do or find stuff wherever and whenever we need it. It also helps teens
improve social skills that are ordinarily neglected. Furthermore, technology enhances our lives in so
many ways without it would be a lot harder to do the many things we can do.
The first reason technology is superior is because it helps us communicate with people faster
everyday. Teens going about their everyday life can with a few strokes of a thumb or clicks of a
mouse can access and communicate within seconds. This is an amazing prospect! In an article about
technology it says, "Media technology has many potential benefits for youth. It allows young people
to communicate with family and friends on a regular basis"(1). This is saying that we have chances
every day to speak to family or friends thousands of miles away! In any type of condition it is
incredible. This is one reason why technology is so useful and astounding. ... Show more content on

Steve Jobs Argumentative
Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson is about the life of Steve Jobs and he came about being as wealthy as
he was. It all started in 1955 when he was born in San Francisco and ended on October 5, 2011 in
Palo Alto. Steve was well known for his company Apple. He changed the world with technology. If
it weren't for him and his company, I don't think we would be as advanced and close with others as
we are now. He was very argumentative, but he enjoyed making the users happy about the product.
He was a jerk also, but it all turned out for the better for everyone in the product. He was a very hard
determined worker and believed in only the best for the customers. I think he was kind hearted as
well because of how much he cared about the users. He deserves the credit of building an excellent
company and products. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Jobs wanted to go to Reed college and he knew his parents couldn't afford it so he
gave them an ultimatum that if they don't pay for it then he would just not go to college. Another
example would be when he had gotten Lisa Brennan pregnant and his response was," I wasn't sure it
was my kid, because i was pretty sure I wasn't the only one she was sleeping with." In this incident,
Jobs argued that it was not his child until finally he matured and went and did a DNA test and it was
a match and then started paying child support. But for a while he was sure that it wasn't his daughter.
When it came to Apple, Jobs was also very argumentative. On one occasion, Jobs started liking the
idea of Apple stores and no one else liked this idea because of the failure they have seen when
another tech company franchised and failed horribly. But, he argued the idea until they all agreed to

Should I Stay or Should I Go Post University Should I Stay or Should I Go It is time to make a
decision regarding what to do after high school. The most popular decision is to go right into
college. Some students say they would like to take a year off before going to college. This is called a
Gap Year, meaning they have a gap in between education. Some do well, and prepare themselves for
college, while others do not. Those that do take a year off have time to explore what life has to offer,
and takes advantage of the deferment application, become a better person. Should I Stay or Should I

By taking this time off to explore what life has to offer, this decision has made several students feel
more mature as young adults. They were able to understand who they have become, and able to
handle pressures in life that came along such as basic stereotyping, patience with others, and feeling
more mature than their peers when they return to college. With using a year in between school and
college, one can defer their application to college and go figure out what type of person they will
become. Some get upset with going to college that first year and by taking the year off, most
students come back with some life changing skills that enable them to have the traits, skillset and
firsthand knowledge to deal with the first year of college situations such as parties, ethics, and
alcohol. Most students feel that by taking this time off, it helps in their growth and not just mentally,
but spiritually. One female even lost faith during her first year as a result of her experience. After
hearing of the rape of one of the orphans, she recalled her religious doubts: "How can God let this
happen?" (Shea, J. pg. 570). Many colleges are allowing more students to apply for a gap year. "In
2009, Princeton University launched a fully subsidized international volunteering gap year option
for incoming undergraduates to encourage an international perspective and

Kritika's Argumentative Effectiveness
Anyone can write an argumentative essay, but to be able to make the reader understand the content
of the essay, it is vital to write the content in an organized way. While taking the Core Humanities
course, Kritika had to write an argumentative essay about five different philosophers she studied,
while making connections between them. Kritika employed several techniques to make her written
communication effective. First, Kritika read the prompt attentively that helped Kritika understood
the requirements of the essay. Kritika, then, began to form the outline to communicate the ideas to
the professor accurately. Furthermore, Kritika wrote the thesis statement in the first paragraph and
wrote five paragraphs to support the argumentative thesis.

Argumentative Essay
Argumentative Essay
The function of an argumentative essay is to show that your assertion (opinion, theory, and
hypothesis) about some phenomenon or phenomena is correct or more truthful than others'. The art
of argumentation is not an easy skill to acquire. Many people might think that if one simply has an
opinion, one can argue it successfully, and these folks are always surprised when others don't agree
with them because their logic seems so correct. Argumentative writing is the act of forming reasons,
making inductions, drawing conclusions, and applying them to the case in discussion; the operation
of inferring propositions, not known or admitted as true, from facts or principles known, admitted,
or proved to be true. It clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inductive logic arrives at likely conclusions by counting up evidence, while deductive logic arrives
at necessary conclusions by examining the logical meanings of statements. According to Purdue
University English Profession Neil Gill, deductive arguments can be grouped into two categories: A
Rogerian argument considers several viewpoints and selects the best one, whereas a Toulmin
argument presents a single, linear argument (i.e., A therefore B) in support of a position. Fallacious
Fallacious arguments are logical–seeming arguments that are not valid. Unlike logical arguments,
fallacious arguments do not arrive at valid conclusions or inferences. There are literally dozens of
fallacious arguments you can commit; a fallacious argument style is one that commits one or more
fallacies frequently. For example, if a person in an argument persistently says, "the economy went
up this year, therefore the party in power caused the economy to improve," that person is engaging
in the "post hoc ergo propter hoc" fallacy, an invalid argument of the form "x happened, y happened,
therefore x caused y." Social Argumentation Styles
Argumentation can be looked at in terms of the way the interlocutors perceive each other. According
to the textbook "Perspectives

Argumentative Essay On Concussions
Football players Argumentative Essay
Our world we live in have so many of athletes. Have we ever thought about the life threatening
injuries they go through? There should be a rule in football to stop head contact on the field to limit
concussion rate and for safety/health purposes. There should be no physical head contact in the
game.
Concussion to the head can Permanently damage your brain function. In a report by Shrader and
associates they endorses "concussion can damage your ability to think", which shows we need to
find a well thoughtful strategy instead of getting hit in the head. This technique will be beneficial to
athletes well–being.

Lysosomes Argumentative Essay
For my argumentative essay I am choosing lysosomes. Lysosomes clean up the cell leaving a clean
place for the other organelles. If lysosomes were removed the cell would be filled with unneeded
debris. The cell would eventually be too full and wouldn't be able to perform the job of the cell.
What would happen if the trash collector stopped coming to your house? Your house would become
cluttered and there wouldn't be any room for anything else. This is similar to how a lysosome works
for the cell. The lysosome removes and breaks down big food particles and old parts of the cell.
Lysosomes play a major role in the cell. If the cell didn't have lysosomes it could become dangerous
to the cell and the cell could die. Waste would build up in

Argumentative Analysis
When Jack London said "The proper function of man is to live, not exist. I shall not waste my days
trying to prolong them. I shall use my time" he meant that you should live life and do fun stuff not
just exist and waist your time, but use it wisely. For example if you want to do an extreme sport that
could make your life more meaningful and make your life more worthy than a person that's never
done an extreme sport. You're using your time more wisely by doing a extreme sport than just
staying at home and sleeping. That could be a story that you could always remember, if you failed
you could still tell people you attempted it which is still an accomplishment.
I somewhat agree with this statement because I do think that you should get out of ... Show more

Those people would disagree because they might be more on the safety side and think that the
extreme sports are too dangerous. I could see how they think because doing an extreme sport could
many times cost you your life or injuries. For example in the article "A Solemn Warning to Wingsuit
Flyers" by Lola Jones she discusses a situation where a man name Robson had a PHD and
conducted researched on wingsuit flyer. He combined the scientific capacity of research of wingsuit
flying and tested it out himself in the air (3–5). At age 31 Robson ended up trying out a route he's
tried before and just for making wrong calculations of two metres, he failed to clear the ridge,
resulting in his death. (8–9) I could see how that experience could traumatize people to never want
to to do a extreme sport in general, because if someone with experience and a PHD made a mistake
like this just imagine a regular human being without experience trying the sport. Although there are
lots of disadvantages these critics haven't considered the incredible benefits of doing an extreme
sports, not a lot of people could say that they've done an extreme sport because most people are
scared and don't want to take the risk of doing an extreme sport. While it is true that there could be
lots of injuries and things could happen to you when doing extreme sports, it does not necessarily
mean that you will die for doing an

Argumentative Essay : Argumentative Synthesis
Argumentative Synthesis
Education can be defined by how we as humans learn to interact with one another as well as
obtaining the skills and perspectives needed to reach our full potential later in life. While education
may seem straight forward, there are many ideas as to how it should be successfully presented. The
authors, Pratt, Rodriguez, and Freire, all share my belief that educational freedom is vital to a
positive classroom experience. Throughout this essay, I will be using their ideas to support why the
system of education requires radical reformation. Richard Rodriguez was the son of Hispanic
working class parents during the 1940's. From a very young age he was fascinated by books. He
would go out of his way to isolate himself from his family in order to read. Throughout his life,
Rodriguez maintained his practice of isolation from his family and peers. At the end of his
schooling, he discovered the error in his ways. While reading a passage from Hoggart's The Uses of
Literacy, Rodriguez found himself in the definition of a "scholarship boy." "The scholarship boy is a
very bad student. He is the great mimic; a collector of thoughts, not a thinker; the very last person in
class who ever feels obliged to have an opinion of his own." (Rodriguez 352) Throughout his entire
academic career, he had mimicked his instructors rather than forming his own opinion. Without
these skills, Rodriguez became immediately aware of his "miseducation." While Rodriguez's story is

Writing An Argumentative Paper

  • 1. Writing An Argumentative Paper In chapter five we learn about how several authors when writing on a topic chooses sides and how they argue their position against others. The author writes for a purpose as well as an audience. The purpose of the author choosing sides is to allow readers to alter the way they view the issue; maybe in a better or worse way or even the same. Sometimes the reading also helps those who lack knowledge on the issue settle on a side, in addition, those who have yet to decide on a side. In order for the author to capture a reader's attention, they need to establish the issue from the beginning in the title and the first few paragraphs or sentences of the paper. Using questions, statistics, quotes, or anything that may capture the reader's attention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everybody can believe what they want to believe, but the reason for you to believe in that thing comes from somewhere and is not always the same as somebody else. The way the author explicates his/her motive will guide people to agree or disagree with them, and in the argumentative paper, you can determine what side the author has chosen by looking at the thesis and supportive paragraphs. Using logos, ethos, and pathos an author can have better chances of convincing the audience to their benefit, by providing persuasive reasons, convincing them that what they are writing is credible making the author trustable, and by connecting the reader to the writing in a sentimental way. Stating the counterclaim of the other side of the argument gives the readers the impression of an open minded author and makes them feel like they are not being forced to believe on just the author's side. Additionally the author is guaranteed on using the opposing sides counterclaim whenever they have a weak outlook on the argument to make themselves look more precise in their writing. The author can also him/herself accept the other side's views, but at the end of the day they state their side clearer and more effectively supported. In an argumentative paper the author will make the writing simple to follow by providing the reader with transitional words and indications. The author will use these concepts to help demonstrate to the reader that everything they have stated in their piece is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Argumentative Essay On Painkillers Argumentative Essay: The Problem With Painkillers Have you ever felt pain? The kind that inhibits you from getting through your day, and doing what you need to? Well, it pains me to say it, but everyone will feel pain at least once in their life, and some people have it worse than others. People with severe or chronic pains usually will go to painkillers to relieve their pain and stress, but it's easy to get addicted. Worst case scenario is that a person could look to heroine in order to fill their craving for pain medication, after their prescription is finished. It's easy to get hooked, and hard to resist, which is why even though helpful, pain medication can be deadly in the long run. Studies show that about nine percent of Americans use pain medications, and 2%–3% of Americans abuse pain medications (not 2%–3% of painkiller users, but the general public). Prescription drugs are also legally acceptable, even though they can be considered addictive. They are hard to detect, and it's not as easy for people to overdose considering there is a given dose with the prescription. Prescription drugs can be as bad as recreational drugs, but they've slipped under the noses of officials because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When people get addicted to these drugs, the worst case scenario can occur, and it is easily seen that many Americans get addicted based on the daily number of deaths. Painkillers are supposed to be helpful, but if they're causing mass death, are they really helping anyone, or just hurting society? So many problems can be caused by painkillers that it's almost a fact that you're better off without them. The drugs can drive people insane if they go without them, and all the drugs are doing at this point is ending lives they're supposed to be helping. Thanks to the high addiction rate, painkillers are doing the opposite of what they're supposed to, and causing people and their loved ones ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Argumentative Research Papers Argumentative Research Paper I am an average highschool student who has decent grades who is generally in the 3.0–3.5 GPA range. I am not like not like some students who really put in the effort of studying, I will write notes if its an assignment, but I usually go based off on memory at best I'll go over and read my notes once. If I use the strategies of flashcards, music, and rewriting I will more likely be able to to be successful. Highly effective students create and review flashcards. They will use it for terms and definitions. They use process of elimination, they go through the cards and they makes three piles. Most that I know who use this strategy listen to music with earbuds and listen to genres like rap. For some students this is beneficial but some it isn't, it depends how and what type of music students listen to. Student who listen to rap usually focus on the words not the work, this makes them more likely to forget. Studies show classical music can be beneficial to students it help relax the mind and body to help it focus, listening to Mozart before studying helps students memories; The Mozart Effect. For me I usually like it quite when I am doing my work but sometimes I am in the mood for music when doing my work. I use this strategy but not all the time while it hasn't help improve my test scores significantly, It does help me focus and finish my work.("Do Or Don't: Studying While Listening To Music") Similarly to flashcards rewriting is an efficient strategy that highly effective students use. They will rewrite terms, formulas, etc. over and over again until they understand and remember it. Studies show students who write their work develop a deeper memory rather than student who dont or type on a computer. I don't typically rewrite all the time because it tedious and time consuming but if I did start making this a habit I know I'll be more likely to remember.("For More Effective Studying, Take Notes With Pen and ... • 7. Argumentative Essay Across the nation and world assisted suicide is an issue that has been gaining attention for several years. With famous cases such as Jack Kevorkian it has become a household term and everyone has an opinion. There are strong cases on both sides, but the bottom line is while it may sound good for the present, it is not for the future. Assisted Suicide should not be legalized in Alabama as the negative outcomes far exceed the positive outcomes in the areas of impact on society, politics and medical education Assisted suicide is defined as the aiding and abetting in a person's suicide to relieve them from suffering. It is also known as Euthanasia. Euthanasia or assisted suicide has been going on for probably as long as there has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Assisted suicide looks good and innocent on paper, but the legalization of mercy killing carries a dark side. Once that door is opened, it may not be easily closed. Regulations can be in place but fraud is rampant in insurance and in the medical field no matter how much it is regulated. In Taking Sides, Clashing Views in Lifespan Development, a statement is made that directly shows the slippery slope of legalized assisted suicide; "In the words of an Australian politician, when we are past our "best before" or "use by" date, we should be checked out quickly, cheaply and efficiently as possible." This view sums up the argument of why not. The mystery of life and death are taken away and humans become industrialized as a piece of meat. Legalization would also affect medical education and training of physicians. The goal of doctors is to save lives, but if euthanasia is legalized that could all change. The research and moral standings of society and the frailty of human life support the fact that assisted suicide should not be legalized in Alabama. There are lines that we just cannot cross. Margaret A. Somerville says in Taking Sides, Clashing Views in Lifespan Development these impressive comments: "Medicine and the law are the principle institutions that maintain respect for human life in a secular, pluralistic society. Legalizing euthanasia would involve and harm both of them. Even in a secular society – indeed, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I liked helping relieve stress in peoples shoulders even when they did not know it was there. I knew that it made good money and as I was aware, that was I was suppose to strive for. My parents made adequate money doing things that helped people, and I wanted to do that while even making more. As my years passed on, I had a very strong interest in photography. I was warned that I may not make as much as an artist and maybe not even enough to survive, but I felt a passion just to find that it was a flame with no ember. Why isn't there an option to go into seventh grade "undecided?" After asking some students about their decision making process, I found that it was not any easier to make that decision in middle school than it will be for them in their adult years. Many people who agree with this new system will argue that career clusters are helpful to a student who is exploring a particular field more in– depth. While this is true, it is also restricting the students to only one particular field of study. Mr. Burris states "The big fear I is that we are going back to where we were at the beginning of the last century, where we started sorting and selecting students, and putting them on life paths that may foreclose their options. " In my case, I would have learned next to nothing about photography while studying with the rest of the students in the Health and Wellness cluster. If I had chosen photography just to find that I'd rather help people than make art, I would have still been stuck in the Digital Media and Art Design cluster rather than learning with my fellow students interested in Human and Public services. Once a student chooses his or her career cluster, that student is not stuck in that for the rest of his or her primary years. Each student may choose to switch his or her career ... I will also address the counterargument by saying that although some people believe these privacy and security risks are too dangerous to accept, these advancements are improving the health and livelihood of the patients they treat. My Argumentative Research Dear Tunxis Community College Humanities faculty, The last four months I had been enrolled in a Composition II course which I have learned to write a strong argumentative research essay. The content's in this folder are three examples of revised essays that I had wrote throughout the semester. I will share with you all of my reflections and insights of each essay and what I have learned in the whole process. The first essay that my Professor assigned was to be on the civil rights. My topic of choice was music and its effect on the civil rights. This was an essay which I first really struggled because I didn't know how to talk about such a topic in a way to really argue my point. I started out by using the Gale database but I wasn't finding specific information that would help solidify my essay. I turned to the library and picked up 33 Revolutions per Minute by Dorian Lynskey, which provided information of all the different protest songs in the civil rights, including jazz, a genre of music ... Because social media is still a relatively new and growing tool, it was hard to find credible and research based sources that could be used to argue my point of view. I also have a lengthy introduction to the topic in which I use a personal anecdote as well as information about what social media actually is. I include this information because I believe the best way to argue something is by first defining what that thing that your arguing actually is and why you are arguing it. This is my favorite essay because I believe it's a non–traditional research essay, but it still argues a very complex and relevant subject that is important to young ... Argumentative Analysis Collaborative Introduction Our topic is the societal impacts of technology, but because technology has drastically changed the way the entire world functions, the three authors have decided to narrow focus on two aspects of life: economics and mental health. While the two areas may seem incompatible, the economic state of a country directly affects the mental health of its citizens, and the economic estate relies on individuals. In order to accurately depict the two areas of effect, the author's focus is the United States, but compare technology use and mental health rates in the United States to the technology use and mental health rates of both China and Russia in order to generate a better understanding of American society. Greasers were seen as troublemakers while Socs were seen as good kids who did not get into any trouble. Their lifestyles differ in everything from the cars they drive to emotion. Argumentative Essay : Argumentative Synthesis John Amos Nordmeyer Ms. Allen 11/20/15 Essay #4: Argumentative Synthesis As we begin the 21st century, the preservation and concern with our world environment becomes more of a highlighted issue. Authors such as Michael Pollan in his article "Escape from the Western Diet", and Jonathan Safran Foer who wrote "Against Meat" both mention in their essays the negative impact fast food has created on our environment due to the method of factory farming. Foer quotes using reports from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN "Factory farming has made animal agriculture the No. 1 contributor to global warming...and one of the Top 2 or 3 causes of the most serious environmental problems, both global and local: air and water pollution, deforestation, loss of biodiversity." (457) Looking at these facts one can see that the issue on hand causes threat to our environment. Fast food has spawned a mass producing industry know as factory farming which although supplies the needs of our fast food industry at a rapid pace, causes pollution to our environment due to its poor disposal methods of waste. The ever growing size of our world population and demand for resources to sustain this population has caused us to resort to mass production of resources. Whether it be eggs, milk, beef or ham, these resources are demanded in great quantity and at a rapid pace. This results in factory farming due to its ability to mass–produce the desired resources. I generally like to read either realistic or science fiction and when I read something that interests me, I like to read for hours without stopping and seldom do I like to take breaks while reading. In the past year, I have tried to read harder books and more non–fiction to become a stronger reader. As a writer, I often feel unmotivated due to my lack of interest in the topic. • 35. Argumentative Essay : Argumentative Writing As long as humanity has differentiated view points, there will be the need for argument. Whether the argument is about who will be the next leader of a free country or as simple as whether or not you bleed AC Milan Rosso or Internazionale Azzurro in Milano, argument allows people to have discussions while trying to prove each other wrong or convince someone to change their views. Under the umbrella of arguing there is a very intelligent method to argue that is called argumentative writing. With argumentative writing a person can put all of their ideas into an organized, well developed paper that attracts and engages a reader. While most people prefer arguing in person, one is susceptible to interruptions from the opposing side or as well as having to think on the fly and keep their train of thought going while constantly countering what the opposition is saying; but with argumentative writing one can freely express all their ideas without opposition until a person is finished reading their paper. That being said, argumentative writing can be looked at metaphorically like a dance. To explain, when you see another person at a club or an event that you think is cute, you have to engage them in an icebreaking conversation. Then when the house band or DJ starts playing you ask the person to dance. While dancing you have to keep up with the beat and keep your partner actively engaged with the music. The writing parts of these two tests both involve argumentative essays. However, I had no prior experience of writing argumentative essays. Back in middle school, I was always dealing with narratives, which mainly focus on the experience of people and the development of events. In contrast, argumentative writing is very different. Its way of expression is to speak of truth and to directly express personal perspectives. In order to write good argumentative, I had to learn from the very beginning. It is built around a specific statement (or main premise) that is debatable within the field in which students are studying. In other words, at the center of an argumentative essay is a statement with which readers may disagree. The argumentative essay will need to support that statement in a manner that convinces the readers of its truth. It mainly strives to convince the reader of the writer's point of view, using reasonable and ethical methods .The process of argument composition varies from writer to writer, most writers follow these three stages: forming an argument, which can consist of discovering a motive for writing and identifying an audience to address, discovering and sharpening a position, and developing an appropriate style; supporting the argument; and reviewing the argument, which can include considering the image projected by argument, making substantial additions or deletions to a first draft, and adding an introduction and conclusion (Cheng and Chen 2009, Day,1997, Liu,2005,Mayberry,2009). ... We have seen a major jump of people with tattoos in the past 20 years (npr.org). But even though so many people have tattoos, many of them don't know the long term effects tattoos can have on your body. I believe there are many reasons why tattoos should be banned in America. First of all, tattoos can negatively affect your career, especially if your tattoo is visible. There are many workplaces where body art is banned in its dress code. Body art isn't allowed in many workplaces because some people feel uncomfortable around other people who have tattoos. Tattoos can also determine which career paths you will take. A survey was conducted by careerbuilder.com, to find out if tattoos had an effect on someone's career. Their studies showed that 31 percent of HR managers said that visible tattoos has a negative impact on whether on not they will hire that person. Tattoos can also have a negative effect on the owner or boss of the company because most of them don't like tattoos. This is because many middle age and older Americans, which is how old many business owners are, associate tattoos with bikers, convicts, and gang members (psychcentral.com). Even if the owner isn't middle aged, many of the customers of the business are over the age of 40. In addition, tattoos are very painful and expensive. On the Bloomberg BNA website (bna.com), Genevieve Douglas wrote about remote opportunities after hearing David Lewis, president and CEO of HR consulting firm Operations Inc. at the Society for Human Resource Management's annual conference in Orlando, FL.: Lewis said that employers should use a remote work option when the available talent in a commutable distance is scarce or when life changes alter an employee's circumstances. According to Lewis, employees who should be allowed to work remotely include those who have jobs where the nature of the work can be performed without face–to–face interaction with co–workers or clients. These people think divorce is better for the child/children because according to them, in an argumentative home the child/children have to witness their parents fighting which makes them feel unstable. In other words, the stress of having to take care of their parents in addition dealing with the crushing weight of the divorce, the millennials have begun to push off the possibility of marriage altogether. With the increasing divorce rate for "grey–haired" couple tripling over the past two centuries, there has been a decrease in in divorces from the younger generation due to the lack of marriages from those under thirty. Another issue the grown children of divorcing couple have to deal with is the stress of their parents giving information about the divorce which causes boundary issues. The parents also tend to lean on their child/children for emotional, and in some cases, financial support. Terry Gaspard, an author and therapist, himself states "Adult children may be called on to help, but they shouldn't let it break them, clear boundaries are important" (Saggio 2). Gaspard's point is millennials should not be depended on to take care of their parents, or have the stress due to much information from the divorce. Research has shown fourteen percent of children have felt like an outsider in their own home at times along with having to take sides in their parents conflict's.Thirty–two percent felt like an adult even though they were still a kid, and thirty–four felt it was stressful in their family (Lewin 5). I bet it isn't how we can control it or how we go about fixing it to make a better life for not only us but for our children. Feeling guilty and concerned are a normal reaction to the global warming issues, but not caring is another really concerning fact in its self. I'm not saying that you must be full blown out there protesting and fighting to be proactive and care. If we don't care or start caring now we won't have a planet to call home anymore. • 57. Argumentative Essay On Utilitarianism UTILITARIANISM I think that the topic of Utilitarianism is interesting to me since I find myself using the greatest happiness principle throughout an everyday basis.Utilitarianism is defined as the ethical doctrine that virtue is based on utility.Utilitarianism is essentially whichever action creates the most happiness for the greatest number of people is the right answer. People have considered utilitarianism controversial since not everyone agrees that the greatest happiness principle leads to the right choice, but rather to the wrong decision. The way that we approach this issue could potentially have severe consequences, on issues like immigration reform, campus carry, etc, if not agreed upon with the use of the greatest happiness principle. In this argumentative paper, I will argue that using utilitarianism and the greatest happiness principle would lead to the to the right decision. I place confidence in my decision that the use of utilitarianism and the greatest happiness principle leads us to the right decision, because it is evident as an effective result for contemporary moral issues such as; immigration reform, campus carry, and capital punishment. Before I explain my reasoning into why my position in the argument is correct, I would like to explain the key words that I will be using throughout the argumentative paper. For one, utilitarianism states that "a positive value is happiness and negative value is suffering". Another term that I will be mentioning often throughout the essay is the "Greatest Happiness Principle". This greatest happiness principle states that "the morally right action maximizes happiness and minimizes suffering for everyone affected, considered equally".The greatest happiness principle is impartial which means that "no one's happiness or suffering is more important than anyone else's". Those who decide between which pleasures are higher and lower are those who have tried both ( also know as the competent judges). These competent judges will tend to prefer the higher pleasure.Their decisions are influence on which option creates the most amount of happiness and the least amount of suffering. Argumentative Essay : ' Argumentative Paper ' TKAM Argumentative Paper America is a country with many beliefs that seem to be hypocritical, for they appear to not be followed by it's citizens and government. It is common to hear about this country being a place where everyone is respected and has their own rights. The National Anthem of the United States of America proclaims this country as "The land of the free and the home of the brave." But it is questionable whether this line is true or not in terms of it's significance. Much oppression, injustice, and prejudice can be found today towards non–white people and those who are socially "inferior." By the looks of things, it seems that America has not reached it's goal of achieving true racial and social equality. There are many realistic examples of the modern United States that show that the country will never achieve such goal. Indeed, one can see these events and conclude that America is not the land of the free, for other groups of people are mistreated for being of another race, or simply for being "inferior" to the eyes of society. Even some famous writings by authors prove that the U.S. will never achieve true racial and social equality. Harper Lee's novel To Kill A Mockingbird is an example of such proof. In the plotline, a girl named Scout watches how her attorney–father tries to defend a black man against the prejudice of her hometown of Maycomb, Alabama. With this information, one can see how even a fictional story can present the prejudice and injustice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You're using your time more wisely by doing a extreme sport than just staying at home and sleeping. Argumentative Essay : Argumentative Synthesis Argumentative Synthesis Education can be defined by how we as humans learn to interact with one another as well as obtaining the skills and perspectives needed to reach our full potential later in life. While education may seem straight forward, there are many ideas as to how it should be successfully presented. The authors, Pratt, Rodriguez, and Freire, all share my belief that educational freedom is vital to a positive classroom experience. Throughout this essay, I will be using their ideas to support why the system of education requires radical reformation. Richard Rodriguez was the son of Hispanic working class parents during the 1940's. From a very young age he was fascinated by books. He would go out of his way to isolate himself from his family in order to read. Throughout his life, Rodriguez maintained his practice of isolation from his family and peers. At the end of his schooling, he discovered the error in his ways. While reading a passage from Hoggart's The Uses of Literacy, Rodriguez found himself in the definition of a "scholarship boy." "The scholarship boy is a very bad student. He is the great mimic; a collector of thoughts, not a thinker; the very last person in class who ever feels obliged to have an opinion of his own."
