2. Is the set of organs in charge
of filter blood, produce,
transport collect and expel
urine.
Urine is the waste product
from blood filtering. Its
composition is 95% water,
2.5% urea and 2.5% other
wastes as salts.
HUMAN URINARY SYSTEM
3. ORGANS OF THE URINARY SYSTEM
ONE PAIR OF KIDNEYS.
ONE PAIR OF URETERS.
ONE URINARY BLADDER.
ONE URETHRA.
4. FUNCTIONS
KIDNEY: Filters the blood. Uses
hyperosmosis to remove ions, nitrogen,
phosphorus and other elements and excess
of water from the blood.
Ureters: transport urine from the kidneys to
the urinary bladder.
Urinary bladder: Is a muscular bag like
organ that stores urine until expeling.
Urethra: Tubular structure that receives
urine from the bladder and carries it to the
outside of the body.
5. KIDNEY
Could be considered the most important organ of
the urinary system.
Is a bean like shaped organ, comes in pair and is
the responsable to filter the blood. It is divided
into:
RENAL CORTEX: the outer part of the kidney.
RENAL MEDULLA: consist on six to ten cone-
shapedrenal pyramids. Contains the nephron, so is in
this part of the kidneys where filtration occurs.
RENAL PELVIS: is a hollow chamber that connects
the kidney to the uretes, collects the urine to be
transported by ureters.
6. NEPHRON
Functional and structural unit of
kidneys. They perform:
1. Filtration
2. Reabsorption
3. Secretion/excretion
• The nephron functions through
ultrafiltration.
