1. My online learning experience as a student is not so good. I only like
how I don’t have to wake up at 6 every day. What I don’t like about it is
that for me it’s confusingwhen a teacher gives us work mostly since
it’s easier for me to do work with instructions that the teacher gives.
Being in a physical classroom makes me only focus on my work, but
online learning makes it harder to focus because I have to also focus
on householdstuff, and it throws me off. I would not want to do online
learning in the future because it is hard for me to concentrate on my
work only.
My online learning experience as a student is kind of stressful;I’m not
really used to technology.I am learning how to use technology,
especially because I need to do my homework somehow.I did like how
we can be at home, though,to bond with my family. What I don’t like
is the piles of homework due on the same day. I have a teacher that
makes us do our homework and makes us turn it in by 6:30 p.m. on
that same day. This experience compares to my experience as a
student in a physical classroom because of the workload. In the future,
I would sometimes want online learning and sometimes do my
education at school, even though it may be loud to concentrate
sometimes.I would like to do some online learning so I can bond more
with my family. I would just hope I didn’t get as much work as I do
now. I want to be able to have a clear mind without worrying that I
have so much homework to do.
y online experience is disturbing. Ever since we had no school and
stayed home due to quarantine, I have been more busy than usual. I
don’t really like online school because it makes me procrastinate to do
my work last minute. On the other hand, at school, I finishedall my
assignments on time without feeling lazy. The only thing I like about
online classes is that they have helped me learn how to be
2. independent, manage family time and school work. I am not as
concerned about my grade as much because it can’t drop lower. I don’t
really like how some of my teachers are giving us more assignments
now than in the past. Also, I don’t understand how to do a lot of
classwork because I forgot or it’s difficult to understand without
anyone’s help. Being physically in a classroom, I have more classmates
to ask for help. In class, I can ask the teacher for help as many times I
need, and there’s a higher possibility I will understand the assignment.
It’s totally different online because I only have myself to use as a
resource. I would rather have physical communication with a teacher.
Online learning for me is confusingand too stressful because there are
times when my family is using the internet as well as I am. My
documents won’t turn in on time. Or there’s been a moment where it
failed to turn in my assignment at all, and I did all that hard work for
nothing.
As a student, my online learning experience has been even busier
compared to attending regular classes on campus in person because
for the most part, I am not taking it as seriously as I need to take it.
However, what I like about learning online is that I’m not as pressured
to present myself as an excellent student, I can relax more, as well as
think more (and I mean really THINK) because, in a school
environment,I, as well as other students have to pace ourselves to
think, which for most of us causes stress and anxiety. What I don’t like
about online learning is that it can take me up to a whole school day
(6-7 hours) to finish two assignments at most, given to me by my
teachers. Comparing to my experience as a student in a physical
classroom, online learning is definitely harder because I and maybe
other students (even the independent people that like working by
themselves) are so used to working with other students. If I could
choose from wanting to do more online learning in the future,I will
not because, although I’m the independent type, the vibe of learning
3. online at home is just not the same as in a classroom with other
students.
At first, it was incredibly difficult transitioning from traditional high school to online
learning, but gradually as the months go by I am slowly starting to get used to it. Though
I feel like I’m not getting a good amount of social interaction from my peers, I find
online learning to be much more beneficial for me as a student. Not being in the
pressurized environment of a classroom gives me the opportunity to learn at my own
pace, whether that be faster or slower than the original classroom, and if clarification is
needed, I can simply rewind the lecture videos my teachers are putting out, or send an
email to my teacher quickly and efficiently.
Being visually impaired in a high school Is challenging, next to navigating the hallways
and putting a lot of trust into my technology for it to work properly that day, I feel as
though my anxiety has dropped tremendously while being home, because if something
were to go wrong with my tech, I can simply pause what I’m doing and fix it, and not
have to worry about missing something or slowing the others down.
I would love to have online learning integrated into the natural high school
environment, seeing as I am getting so much more done in such a shorter time, and I
feel like I’m actually learning the material and not just grazing over it like I would in a
standard classroom.
As a sophomore, I did a couple of online classes through my public school in Andover,
while attending the Kansas State School for the Blind (KSSB). Those experiences
compared to this year were less than pleasant, simply because at the time, I didn’t know
what I was doing, and I tended to overwork myself silly. This year, we’re doing all of our
classes via Zoom, and that’s greatly impacted my views on online learning. I’m always in
constant verbalcommunication with my teachers, I can more easily express what
accommodations I need, and I can get to know my teacher a lot better than if we were
just communicating over a comment thread in Google Classroom or email. It’s much
more relaxed now, and I must say, it’s rather enjoyable.
I don’t know if I would want to have more online learning in the future because if I’m
being truly honest, I like the look and feel of a regular classroom sometimes. However,
that doesn’t mean that I would be opposed to doing assignments online; I just want the
4. instruction to be in a classroom, because it’s nice to know that you’re truly not the only
one who may be lost. Unfortunately, because of the time we are living in right now,
online learning is becoming more of a necessity if we want to keep on learning the skills
that we learn in the classroom, and something tells me that due to updates in
technology, online learning is going to be a lot more prevalent even after this pandemic
is over.
5. My Experience as an Online Student
by Debra Sicard
My online classes are a convenience for me. They allow me to take additional
classes that would not have fit into my schedule otherwise. I am not a traditional
student, so I have non-traditional needs. Internet classes allow me to remain at home
with my family. Taking Internet classes has many advantages for a non-traditional,
and traditional student, such as: saving money, saving time, and most of all the
convenience. Internet classes are the answer for many students with non-traditional
needs. However, the only downfall to my Internet class was a computer virus, which
was disastrous. I lost everything on my computer, but as for the important files I had
backup on floppies. I was lucky, my sister-in-law came within a few days and fixed
my computer, so I did not get too far behind. This situation should be considered
when taking an Internet class.
In my experience with Internet classes, the good far outweigh the bad. Taking
Internet classes has saved me money. If I were taking traditional classes, I would be
spending about twenty dollars a week in gas alone, not to mention the wear and tear
on my car. The only expense that I incur with Internet classes is my server charge,
which is about twenty-five dollars a month. That means by taking Internet classes I
am saving over eighty dollars a month, and that does not include wear and tear on my
car. I could finance a new computer with the savings from taking online classes.
Also, Internet classes save time, and saving time is important to me. The travel time
alone is time enough for me to complete my assignments. It would take me forty-five
minutes to travel to Hammond from Mandeville, and that is only one way. The extra
hour and a half makes a big difference when I am a wife, a mother of three children, a
full time student, and I work part time. For example, if I spend one hour a day
working on my assignments, that means that I still have an extra half hour of free time
each day; time that I would normally have to spend commuting to and from school.
Furthermore, I have learned just as much online as I would have in a traditional
class. I do not have the interactions with the instructor and the classmates, but I can
email my instructor or my classmates at anytime. Internet classes have the discussion
board where my classmates and I can exchange comments and ideas about our papers
online. I do not feel as though I am missing out on anything by taking online classes.
Actually, I am gaining much more that I am losing. For example, I involve my family
in my Internet assignments, and I get ideas from them on assignments. I make a list
like a survey, and question everyone on his or her ideas. This is a lot of fun, and it
gives me ideas for my assignments. This is a learning experience for my whole
family. And also, I am spending time with my family; which is difficult for a non-
traditional student.
Finally, online classes fit my lifestyle, because I am not a traditional student. If
given a choice I would take all of my classes through the Internet. Online classes have
6. saved me money and time. Also, online classes allow me to work, to be a wife and
mother, and it allows me to be a full time student. The only drawback for me was
when my computer crashed. Other than that my experience with online classes has
been a rewarding, learning experience.
