2. HISTORY:
It was first reported in India from Delhi in 1952.
Presently, the disease occurs widely and outbreaks
have been recorded in pomegranate growing states
like Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
3. DISTRIBUTION:
Disease was prevalent only in India.
But it was also reported from South Africa in 2010.
LOSSES:
Losses was recorded in Rajasthan in 2009.
5. SYMPTOMS:
Dark coloured irregular necrotic spots 2-5 mm in
diameter.
Premature dropping of leaves.
Raised irregular spots are seen on the fruits.
Fruit cracking occurs in ‘V’ or ‘L’ shape.

Order : Xanthomonadales
Family : Xanthomonadaceae
Genus : Xanthomonas
Species : Xanthomonas campestris pv. punicae
10. MODE OF SPREAD:
Primary spread is through infected leaves, fruits and
twigs.
Secondary spread is through rain.
Entry is through wound and natural openings.
SURVIVAL:
Survives in soil and fallen leaves.
11. FAVOURABLE CONDITIONS:
High temperature and low humidity favor the disease
development.
Optimal temperature for the growth of bacterium is
30ºC.
12. INTEGRATED DISEASE MANAGEMENT:
Remove the affected and fallen leaves.
Spray mancozeb @ 0.2%
Spray with streptocycline @ 500 ppm + copper oxy
chloride 2000 ppm
