3. Summary of The Cop and the Anthem
The story revolves around a homeless man named Soapy, who is
living on the streets of New York City during the harsh winter
season. Soapy is tired of his homeless existence and decides that he
wants to get arrested so that he can spend the winter months in a
warm jail cell, with the hope of being released in the spring.
4. Soapy tries various methods to get himself arrested,
including loitering, stealing, and causing a disturbance,
but he fails each time. The police officers in the city are
either too busy or too indifferent to arrest him for minor
offenses. Frustrated, Soapy begins to lose hope in his
plan.
He made a plan to go to an expensive restaurant and
order food without money.
5. The authority of the restaurant was refusing to hand over him
to the cops. The plan was badly unsuccessful and then he
made another disaster. He broke a glass window of a store
and accepted his crime in front of the cops. The cops were
disbelieving him and ran after another man. The
unsuccessfulness of all plans made him melancholic and he
decided to make a good life for himself. He got arrested by
the cops and went to prison.
