Why Is Bulk Insulation Important
If you are living in a freezing–country like Canada, then you know the importance of Bulk Insulation for a comfortable life in your home. In countries
like the UK, where you have four seasons in a year; what type of insulation should you use? What do you understand by this picture/map? (https:/

But it would not serve you well in hot climates. In warm countries, where the sun shines throughout the daytime; radiation is the form of heat transfer.
Which means you need something that can reflect the heat rays. Bulk Insulation is not the right type for this purpose, and reflective insulation should
be your choice. Some manufacturers now manufacture thick insulation with a reflective layer on one side. Anyway, the effectiveness of them is not
clear yet.
Risks of insulation: Bulk Insulation removal and installation can be dangerous due to the materials used to produce them. Anyway, you don't have to
worry about asbestos contamination because modern insulation is 100% free from asbestos. Loose–fill types can go everywhere, and you need
machines for installation. Reflective insulation, on the other hand; is much straightforward to remove and install.
Some final words: Before choosing insulation for your home, do your research about the climate zone. Of course, you can talk to a professional in the
insulation industry for better advice on the right type to install in your home. He will confirm whether your old insulation contains asbestos or not. If it
contains traces of asbestos, then removal and disposing of it will cost you more

Questions On Structural Insulation Panels
Introduction
Nowadays, structural insulation panels (SIPs) are used increasingly in a wide range of different structural applications. Therefore, this report
investigates into widespread aspects of the SIPs to confirm the appropriateness of panels that can be combined into design work.
To construct this report, several sections have been researched .The analysis includes the explanation, history, and operation of SIPs. Also, case studies:
River Studio by Sjölander da Cruz Architects and Museum of Outdoor Arts Element House by MOS Architects are used to investigate about panels
used onto buildings. Moreover, the report briefly explains the benefits and detriments of panels. Last but not least, the comparison between alternative

They have taken the continuous research on SIPs for over 30 years which helped to develop the SIPs in its design and materials. ( Panjehpour, Ali, and
Voo, 2013)
In 1936, Frank Lloyd Wright used a form of SIPs to construct the Usonian homes. Alden B. Dow, an Americanarchitect who was the student of Frank
Lloyd Wright, created the first foam core SIPs in 1952. Rigid foam insulation became accessible when the affordable SIPs had mass production by the
1960s. (Morley, 2000)
Operation
SIPs are prefabricated panels, which are assembled and pre–cut in the manufactory. Features such as window openings, headers can be included on the
panels according to the design submission by a builder. (Cold Climate Housing Research Center, 2015)
Figure 1.2 SIPs are cutting in the factory
The size and thickness of panels depend on the application and thermal or structural requirements. In the United Kingdom , the material of panels
normally is orientated strand board grade 3 or plywood combined with various plastic foams including expanded polystyrene, extruded polystyrene,
urethane and other similar insulation cores. (Porteous and Kermani, 2013)
Panels must comply with the standards of fire safety and load–bearing according to the International Building Code and the International Residential
Building Code .(Cold Climate Housing Research Center, 2015)

Blown In Insulation May Be The Solution For Staying Warmer In The Winter
If it seems like your power bill is higher in the winter than it used to be, it might be because you need to add insulation to your attic. Insulation can
compress over time, or it can get wet from attic leaks and cease to work like it should. Adding insulation could improve the energy efficiency in your
home and that in turn will reduce your power bill. While you can choose from a few different types of insulation to add, blown in insulation is often
the best option. Here are a few things to know.
Apply It Over Existing Insulation
As long as your current insulation is not wet or moldy, you can have new insulation blown in over top of it. This will save you from the labor of
pulling up old insulation that could release fiberglass, mouse droppings, or other dangers into the air that might circulate through your home. However,
if you need to pull out the existing insulation, you will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fiberglass is one option. It can be blown into your attic, but there is the risk that tiny bits of fiberglass will become airborne and float through your
home. For that reason, the contractor might install a netting system over the fiberglass to hold it in place. The advantage of using blown in fiberglass
over batts is that the blow in variety is able to settle itself evenly over the floor of your attic, and isn't confined to the shape of the batts that might leave
small gaps uninsulated.
Cellulose is the more common type of blown in insulation. It is made from recycled paper and cardboard that is treated to be fire retardant. It is
heavier than fiberglass, so it stays put once it is blown in. Although it is heavy, it is manufactured to be fluffy. This allows for air circulation that
prevents mold. Plus, the trapping of air pockets improves insulating

The Effects Of Thermal On The Indoor Environment
Thermal bridging
Introduction
Over 40% of global energy consumption occurs in the construction industry (Shao, 2014). One means of reducing energy consumption in this sector is
to increase the thermal efficiency of buildings. The building envelope has been developed to isolate the indoor environment from the outdoor
environment, in order to raise the energy efficiency of a building, and to create a healthier indoor environment (Ge et al., 2013; Al–Sane and Zedan,
2012). Civil engineers must select appropriate materials, namely insulation materials with a track record of high thermal efficiency, so that the costs of
air conditioning and heating equipment can be reduced (Ge et al., 2013). It should be noted that thermal bridges appear have ... Show more content on

reduce or eliminate (the effects of) thermal bridges.
Figure 1: an example of thermal bridging between a ceiling and a roof (source: Cunningham, 2011).
Location of thermal bridges
Thermal bridges may appear in different parts of a building, including roofs, walls, and structural members. There are two main types of thermal
bridge, which are caused by poor design (Sch?ck, 2014). The first is a material thermal bridge, which occurs when adjacent materials have different
conductivities(ibid). An example of this type of thermal bridge is shown in Figure 2. Firstly, the thermal conductivity of the two types of glazing is
different, therefore, more heat transferred through one of these two types of glazing making it a thermal bridge. In addition, the thermal conductivity of
the glazing is different from that of the frame, hence, there is more heat loss through the frame, against which there is a higher exterior temperature,
compared with those beside the other elements.
Figure 2: example of a material thermal bridge (image and photograph by author).
Another type is a structural thermal bridge. This type of thermal bridge can occur in the interface between building elements (Paul et al., 2008). One
typical example is at the junction between walls (see Figure 3). This can occur when one wall is

A Safe Insulation, DuPont Hempcrete
Fiberglass insulation is used in about 90% of homes in the United States and has the potential to cause multiple serious health issues. Hemp insulation
can take all these concerns out of the picture with many of the ways hemp is naturally ecologically–friendly. Hemp comes from a cousin of the
cannabis sativa plant which also produces marijuana. When hemp is grows it grows at a very fast rate and can be easily grown in many conditions.
The plant is used to make the hemp insulation called hempcrete with other additives. The other parts of the plant can be used to make other various
essential items for the human life. Although hemp is illegal in the United States it can be grown through a system of licensed growers in the United
States and can also be bought from growers in Canada and Europe and shipped to the United States. Using hemp and a lime is the best alternative for
an insulation because both products are readily available and easy to obtain. Hemp can be believed to be the future of insulation for many reasons.
Hempcrete can be eco–friendly and beneficial in many ways. As the fast–growing hemp plant grows it naturally removes carbon dioxide from the air
making it environmentally friendly (Crawford "A Green Alternative to Insulation Materials"). Hemp takes this carbon dioxide and transfers it to the
soil making the soil rich for future crop rotations. This was the case when hemp was tested at the Chernobyl site to test if it would help heal the soil

Descriptive Essay About Bamboo Bedding
How Bamboo Bedding Keeps You Cozy on a Frosty Winter Night
It's that time of year again. The leaves are changing to brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows, painting the landscape in the beautiful glow of fall. Yet,
autumn leaves also mean that winter is right around the corner. With chilly nights ahead, what type of bedding should you use to stay warm thiswinter?
Well, if you want to stay cozy and warm this winter, try organic bamboo bedding. Below are some ways bamboo bedding helps to keep you cozy on a
frosty winter night.
First, bamboo bedding is fantastic at insulating heat.
Second, bamboo bedding reduces the level of humidity in your bed.
Third, bamboo bedding decreases your chances of disease.
Forth and finally, bamboo bedding is incredibly soft and smooth.
Insulates Heat
To start with, bamboo bedding is phenomenal at insulating heat, making it the ideal bedding for winter weather. This organic bedding insulates heat
because the fibers of bamboo are dense and thick. In fact, they have an almost plush feel to them. Furthermore, when you're wrapped up in a bamboo
comforter, you feel like you're being embraced by a warm, plush cloud.
Additionally, bamboo bedding doesn't need to be bulky to keep you warm. For instance, bamboo comforters don't need tons of layers since bamboo
efficiently insulates heat. This helps bamboo bedding to be lighter and lay flatter than traditional bedding. When your bedding isn't as bulky, it doesn't
weigh you down and you're more

Introduction Humans have been using insulation since the beginning of time: building physical structures to protect them from the elements with
wood, stone, and earth using furs and pelts or pieces of cloth to put on the sides of their structure to retain the desired temperature indoors. From early
Romans using cork for their shoes to using cork and other materials to insulate pipes. Insulation has been crucial to the development of the human race.
Man made fibers were beginning to be created during the industrial period. Asbestos was very popular during the early twentieth century until it was
deemed unsafe and more environmentally safe methods were created such as fiberglass and cellulose spray foam to increase the R–values. (Insulator...

These people do not have access to the plentiful construction materials of woods and concrete. They can only use materials that are present in their
areas that are low cost to them. Our idea is to find the most efficient, readily available material that provides the highest R–value to insulate their homes
with. Higher insulation would keep lower the amount of wood or other material to heat their homes. This would save them money by not having to
purchase material and help the environment by not producing COв‚‚ gas with other greenhouse gases. This information could also be helpful to
residents of already developed nations. Modern day insulation materials are costly to produce and purchase and hurtful to the environment to produce.
They are also caustic to the skin and protective equipment must be worn to protect the installers. Attention to the insulation can "lower your heating
and cooling costs" because it costs money to keep a house warm in winter and cool in summer (Insulation. 2016). Many people may be looking for
cheaper methods to insulate their homes. This experiment would help in trying to save money too. For our experiment with the materials chosen were

Pipe Insulation Benefits
Exploring the Benefits of Pipe Insulation
If you ask any plumber or home improvement specialist is you should bother insulating the pipes in your basement, the overwhelming answer will be
yes, of course you should. However, you may be wondering why you would take the time and expense to wrap them in foam or other material. What
are the reasons behind insulating residential pipes and what are the benefits to you?
The benefits for pipe insulation come in three basic forms, all of which have the eventual result of saving you money. Insulation reduces heat loss in hot
water pipes, helps prevent freezing of water lines, and prevents condensation from forming on the outside. How does this translate into saving you
money?
Keeping the Hot Water Hot... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Home improvement experts estimate that by properly insulating your hot water pipes, you can turn the temperature of your water heater down about 2
to 4 degrees. This translates into a direct savings on your energy bill. Admittedly, most savings are not huge, but they continue year after year. They
often recoup the cost of installing the insulation the first year.
Keeping the Cold Water From Freezing
If you live above the freezing line, then you have probably heard horror stories about water pipes freezing and bursting. This causes hundreds, and
sometimes thousands of dollars' worth of damage. Water usually comes from the supply at about 50 degrees Celsius. When it enters your home, it is
emerging from the (relatively) warm underground into a below–freezing environment. With little to no water movement, that water freezes solid,
expands, and breaks out of the pipe. Insulation stops this thermal transfer, keeping your pipes from freezing and saving you the cost of cleanup.

Make Your Garage Door More Energy Efficiency
How To Make Your Garage Door More Energy Efficient
If you're looking to improve the energy efficiency of your home so you can cut your monthly power bill, don't forget about your garage. If you use it as
a workspace or game room, you'll want to make sure it is well insulated so your portable heater or air conditioner won't have to work as hard. One
important step is to insulate your garage door since it is a likely source of air leaks. Here's what you need to know about making your garage door more
energy efficient.
Insulate An Existing Door
If you don't want to buy a new door, you can add insulation to your current garage door. An easy way to do this is with foam board. Foam board is
light so it won't add much weight to your door. The boards slide into the panels of your garage door and create an air pocket that acts as insulation to
keep cold air outside and warm air inside. You could also attach fiberglass insulation or another insulating material, but you have to be aware of how
much weight you add to the door, so you don't cause it to malfunction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It will look much better than DIY insulation because the insulation is hidden inside the door. Since weight is taken into account when the door is
made, superior forms of insulation can be used. For instance, some insulated doors have spray foam inside them, which is the same type of insulation
used in the walls of modern homes. If you want the best insulation possible, choose a door with a high R–value. The R–value is a rating for thermal
resistance, and it indicates how well the door will insulate your garage.

Reasons To Buy An Insulated Garage Door
If you're planning on buying a new garage door, you'll have to decide if you want to buy one that's insulated. If you want the cheapest price and don't
care about controlling the climate in your garage, then you may not want to spend the extra money on an insulated door. However, an insulated garage
door has several benefits, and you may find the extra cost is worthwhile. These are some of the reasons to consider buying an insulated garage door.
Soundproofing
Insulation acts as a sound barrier, so if you want to block out traffic noises from the street, you should probably invest in an insulated garage door. If
you want to use your garage as a getaway where you can watch television or listen to music, then you'll appreciate having outside noises muffled. Plus,
if you like to play loud music, the insulation will hold down the noise so you won't disturb your neighbors. Insulated garage doors tend to be quieter
when they're in operation too. Because they are sturdier, they don't rattle as much when going up and down. This could be important if your garage is
next to, or underneath, a bedroom.
Climate Control ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

prevent freezing of items you store in there. While it will still be cold, an insulated door may be all you need to keep the temperatures above
freezing depending on how cold it is outside. If you store surplus food or liquids in your garage, this will make paying for an insulated door

Review of Literature
Insulate – to cover, line, or separate with a material that prevents or reduces the passage, transfer, or leakage of heat, electricity, or sound (Insulate
,2015, pg.1). In this experiment insulation is the main topic. Insulation is used in many things: a house, a refrigerator, walls, clothing, and types of
drinking cups. Installation can be made of materials like styrofoam, plastic, and fiberglass. These can be used to keep things hot or cold. Insulation is
most commonly for heat and maintaining heat energy. This experiment tests the insulation of several cups and how they keep liquids hot. Each cup
used in the experiment has some insulation. The cups have different amounts of insulation. Each of these cups are generally used as insulators for
many liquids.
Insulation slows the process of heat leaving an object. Most insulation contains lots of air spaces. The air spaces slow the flow of heat leaving the
object because the heat takes longer to travel through the air spaces. Insulation is a material or substance that is used to stop heat, electricity, or sound
from going into or out of something (Insulation, 2015, pg. 1). Insulation is commonly thought of in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Heat Loss Investigation Essay
Heat Loss Investigation
Introduction ============
In this investigation I will investigate heat loss and heat transfer in different materials and I will also investigate which materials are the best insulators.
A material that prevents this heat loss is called an insulator and this helps to keep the object that is being insulated warmer for, longer.Heat is generally
transferred in three different methods: –
– Conduction
– Convection
– Radiation
Conduction is energy transferred from the hotter part of a solid to the colder part of conduction. It is transferred by the particles in the material the
particles in the hot part are vibrating more. These vibrations are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The particles that escape are those with higher–than–average energy – otherwise they would not have enough energy to escape. Because the liquid
loses its higher energy particles, the liquid that is left has less energy, so it becomes cooler.
I will test two types of insulation to see which is the best at preventing heat loss I will use black card, and tin foil to insulate the beaker filled with
water. I will also do this twice one in a small beaker and once in a larger beaker. I will investigate also if I use more water will this affect the heat loss.
If I use more water will this hold insulate the water more? So overall I will have four sets of results.
Factors of the experiment =========================
In this experiment there are many different factors that could affect my experiment and the results I achieve, the factors are:
The amount of water used in each experiment – If I use a large of amount of water this will mean that the water will cool down slower and therefore
stay warmer for longer. So the more water I use the longer the water will stay warm, so if I use a small amount of water it will cool down quick.
Type of Insulation I will use – This will change the amount of heat loss significantly. Different types of material insulate differently depending on how
efficiently the material

INSULATION MATERIALS
Introduction:
The buildings are being constructed using a system build with a steel frame and various prefabricated components, the blue plastic on the buildings is
the vapour barrier for the thermal wall insulation before the exterior cladding has been fixed.
Building insulation is an object in a building used as insulation for any purpose while the majority of the insulation in building is for the THERMAL
purpose, that itself also applies to acoustic insulation fire insulation. The choice of which material or combination of materials is used depends on a
wide variety of factors. Though some insulation materials are now no longer supposed and allowed to be used but can be remain and used in old
constructed building projects used as highly–resistant fibrous mineral that can be woven in to fabrics and even it is used in brake linings and in fire
resistant and insulation materials.
Difficult to use around imperfections can be come costly – Thermal Insulation, Sound Insulation, Electric Insulation, Fire Insulation, Fiberglass
Insulation: Fiberglass is the most common insulation used in modern times; Mineral Wool, Cellulose Insulation Material, Polyurethane, Foam–
Polyurethane, Polystyrene(Styrofoam).
Types of Insulation Materials
1)Foam Board or Rigid Foam:
Foam boards or Rigid foam can be used to insulate almost any part of your home, from foundation to the roof of a building. They often provide
structural strength to home and even simultaneously provide good thermal resistance. Foam board insulation helps to reduce the heat conductivity
through various structural elements like wood and steel pieces. Foam board is easily formed into shapes that can be used for interior design and
architectural models.
П–The basic types of foam board insulation materials and their uses are as follows:
В¬Polystyrene
В¬Polyurethane
В¬Polyisocyanurate
В¬Polystyrene: In polystyrene there are two foams; Expanded Polystyrene Foam and Extruded Polystyrene Foam.
Expanded Polystyrene (EPS): Expanded polystyrene is the cheapest and the least product used by the socializers on the market. It is used for packing

The price would determine how big of a percentage impact a $.015 per pound premium on paper purchased from dealers would be over scrap
paper purchased at loading docks. Using historical information for the spot prices of scrap paper, in the 1979 to 1980 timeframe, spot prices
ranged from $20 to $60 per ton. The $.015 premium becomes more of an issue the cheaper paper is available for purchase at the loading dock. At a
spot price of $20 per ton or $.01 per pound, the $.015 per pound premium is 150% of the spot price. At this level, management should be focusing
on casual purchases at loading docks. At a spot price of $60 per ton or $.03 per pound, the $.015 premium is 50% of the spot price. Rationalizing
the premium will depend on which method is used to compute the cost per bale. When using the original cost report formula, the purchased bales
were still cheaper after adding the $.015 per pound premium at all spot prices between $20 and $60 per ton. The prices for purchased bales ranged
from $9.12 to $15.12 while the prices for formed bales ranged from $10.41 to $19.41. The purchased bales were more expensive at all spot prices
between $20 and $60 per ton when computing costs using the formula proposed by the General Manager. Using the alternate cost report formula, total
costs ranged from $10.63 to $16.63 per formed bale and $11.79 to $17.79 per purchased bale. Calculations can be found on the attached

Questions On The Cavity Wall Insulation
Cavity Wall Insulation could be a remedy for the energy poverty undergone by many homes in Ireland. Available statistics show over 60,000 low
income and 160,000 other homes suffer from energy poverty. This invariably affects their health, indoor comforts while causing huge wastage of
limited earnings. Insulation In general and cavity wall insulation in particular will help you if you are one of the above house holders.
SEAI offers special grants for up to Euro 400 to meet your home improvements by cavity wall insulation. The installations have to be carried out by
qualified installers as special tools are required to carry this out. Under no circumstance this is a DIY job even for a person good with their hands.
Cavity walls
A cavity wall can be a construction of two walls with an air gap in between or a wall constructed of hollow blocks. The air gap in this manner should
be continuous for any effective cavity wall insulation to be carried out.
How are the Cavity walls insulated?
The cavity wall insulation is applied in several ways depending on the type and construction of wall, type of insulation selected etc. What ever the
material selected the idea is to cut off heat transfer by cutting off the heat transfer primarily, by conduction (ie. by physical contact) and convection (ie.
by the movement of hot air (molecules) due to air currents). Naturally unless there is a continuous cavity this process has limited detrimental affect as
the heat by air movement is limited to

This then makes the particles vibrate a lot, which collides with other particles, moving the heat along. This is called conduction. Convection is when
the particles have lots of heat to rise, and then they cool down and they sink. This is noticeable in colored liquid being heated. The 1st best insulator
of heat will be the cotton wool with the lid, second will be the cotton wool on its own because it has no lid which means heat can be lost through
convection waves through the lid, 3rd will be the bubble wrap because it has less air pockets than cotton wool, the cotton fibers contain more air, and
finally last will be no insulation because heat is lost through all means. It's lost through conduction through the sides and through convection through
the top. The encyclopedia of Encarta says, 'cotton wool has many fibers which have pockets of air which makes it a good insulator'. I also predict
every 1 minute interval, 2 degrees Celsius of heat would have lost in the water.

Don't Forget The Windows When Insulating Your Home If you're tired of wrapping up in blankets and wearing two layers of clothing just to keep
warm in your home during the winter, you need to improve the insulation in your house. If your insulation isn't as good as it should be, your
furnace can run all day, and you'll still be cold. While you probably know about adding insulation to your attic, you may overlook insulating your
windows. Here's what you can do to keep cold air from seeping in around your windows. Apply Spray Foam Insulation The first step is to seal all
the tiny gaps around your window frames. The ideal product for this is spray foam insulation. While a contractor can also apply spray foam to
your attic using a canister and wand, the kind you use around windows comes in a small can you apply yourself. You spray it on as a foam and it
fills all the cracks and grooves around the frames before it hardens in place. This effectively blocks air from blowing through gaps. Spray foam
insulation quickly dries into a very hard substance. For that reason, you don't want to spray it along the track of your windows because you won't be
able to open them again, and that could be a hazard if you ever need to escape through a window due to a fire. Apply... Show more content on

For instance, if you have aluminum frames with single–pane glass, they get very cold in the winter. You can feel the chill when you sit near them.
Unless you want to replace the windows with newer and more energy efficient windows, you should consider covering them with some type of
insulation during the coldest months of the year. Buy a plastic window kit at a home improvement store for this purpose. The plastic covers the glass
and the frame as an added layer of insulation. You may also want to use heavier curtains during the winter, and keep them closed tight over your
windows. You'll lose natural lighting, but your home will stay

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE The purpose of this experiment is to determine which type of material provides the best insulation. The independent
variables are the types of materials used, the dependant variable is the mass of the ice that has melted, and the controls are the temperature of the
air in the room and the pressure. The reason for this experiment is to provide simple solutions for expensive insulation. BACKGROUND
RESEARCH Insulation is any type of material that prevents the movement of heat or electricity and is used to keep an area either warm or cold
(Insulation, 2016). Insulation works by creating a layer that blocks or reduces the heat movement from one material to another by minimizing the
conduction of heat. It is used to keep either the inside of a structure chilled, or it can be used to keep a large enclosed space, such as a home or
building, warm... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
NASA uses a metallic, shiny, thin insulation on all of the missions, including on the Hubble Space Telescope and the Mars rovers. Although it is
extremely lightweight, it is very strong. This same insulation technology has been used throughout the planet to supply effective thermal blankets to
people in need (A Shining Example of Space Benefits, 2007). The benefits of home insulation far exceed the disadvantages. Some advantages are
reduced energy bills, more tolerable air temperatures, and a cleaner community because of a reduced carbon footprint. Insulation will also help to
block out sounds from outside, and keep sounds from inside the building from being heard from the outdoors (The Benefits of Home Insulation,
2014). Styrofoam is believed to work as the best insulator because it is used in coolers. Styrofoam coolers already do an excellent job of keeping
things frozen and cold. Styrofoam contains many air pockets or bubbles which prohibit heat conduction so the heat does not transfer in or out of the

time; save the world from a future energy crisis. Insulation blogs highlight the importance of proper insulation in a personal level, but they don't
explain how it affects the entire world. By insulating your home properly, you can help the world to save energy.
OK, now let's come to the main topic. In this article, I am going to give priority to the Foilboard. Let's get to know the Foilboard a bit better later.
What are the three main types of insulation available in the market today? Batts, Blown–in, and Spry–types are the types of insulation that we knew for
a long time. Batt was the earliest form of insulation that came to the world at the beginning of the 19th century. We, humans; made a big mistake by
mixing asbestos with batt insulation. I mean, still, we are struggling because of asbestos–contaminated materials. Anyway,... Show more content on

You can fill every gap and space with the spray–type. Again, fiberglass and cellulose are the two materials. So, now you can understand its downsides,
right? Only a professional can do it, and a big machine is needed here.
* Foilboard: A new form of insulation material which comes with many advantages. Since it is a rigid board, it will never get settled as the batt and
blown–in types. You don't need a machine to install it. Also, you don't have to worry about Insulation Thickness and R
–values. Still, hiring a
professional installer is advisable. Foilboard doesn't cause health issues as other traditional insulation types. Lack of availability is the only downside.
Anyway, Foildboard is now taking over the market rapidly. So, a dealer will come to your city soon.
Wrapping up: Every type of insulation has advantages and disadvantages. Foilboard is a modern alternative to traditional insulation types (batt,

Tips For Adding Attic Insulation To Your Home
If you're tired of shivering in your home when the weather turns cold, it's probably time to install new insulation in your attic and walls. While you'll
probably need to hire a contractor to blow insulation in your walls, you can install attic insulation yourself if you have basic home improvement skills.
Here are a few tips that may help.
Choose Your Insulation Material
Blankets and blow–in insulation are easy to use if you want to install the insulation yourself. The blankets come in standard sizes that you can unroll on
the attic floor. You'll need to cut them to fit around vents, pipes, and anything else that gets in the way, but for the most part, you can simply unroll the

To do this, you can buy foam baffles at a home improvement store and place them along the walls and ceiling if necessary. They allow air to circulate
behind them so you won't have to worry about leaving a space between the insulation and your walls.
Also, before you put in the blanket or loose insulation, be sure to seal all the cracks, vents, and pipes with spray foam insulation from a can. Check
for air leaks around windows and other openings and seal any you find with caulk or the spray foam.
Once your attic is prepped, you can install the insulation of your choice. Work from the walls towards the center of the room near the door. When
you're finished with the floor, add some insulation to the door too. You can do this by taping a piece of blanket insulation or foam insulation board
to the back of the door. Then seal the door with weatherstripping so no cold air can leak through the cracks. If your home still seems too cold after
you've added insulation in your attic, check other areas of your home such as the exterior walls, crawlspace, basement, and even the floors in your
home. By insulating these areas too, you'll make your home even more energy

Well, you know the importance of proper insulation for a comfortable living space, for sure. Proper insulation helps us to maintain the temperature in
our homes within a comfortable range, also to lower the energy bills. Who can live in a home freezing in the winter, and too hot in the summer? With
time, the insulation gets damaged by various factors. Damaged insulation doesn't perform well, so your home will become an uncomfortable place to
live. One of the main causes of insulation damage is the water damage. Severe storms, floods, water line failures, and many other accidents expose
insulation to water. What would help you to know whether water is damaging the insulation? Well, Moisture Meter is your best friend here. It's a very
useful instrument for insulation inspectors to know the conditions of your insulation after the severe... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Make sure you have enough ventilation in the attic for you to breath. Keep the air filtration system on before start working in the attic. Anyway, I don't
recommend you to work in the attic yourself. How to use a Moisture Meter?: As I said earlier, many Moisture Meter types are there for various
purposes. In the wood industry, this instrument lets the workers know about the moisture in the wood. Insert the probes into the substance you want to
check. Evert insulation inspector should have this useful instrument. When checking fiberglass insulation, make sure you take reading from multiple
angles. If the pins end in an air pocket in the insulation, the reading you would get is not an accurate one. Testing relative humidity is never going to
bee a waste of time. Wrapping up: Water ingress is one of the main causes of insulation deterioration. Excess moisture destroys insulation gradually and
leads to mold growth. Since you can't see the water percentage in insulation by the naked eye, a Moisture Meter is your

Analyis of Different Types of Insulation
1. Fiberglass Fiberglass is the most public insulation utilized in present times. Because of how it is made, by efficiently interlacing fine strands of
glass into an insulation physical, fiberglass is able to minimize warmth transfer. The main downside of fiberglass is the danger of grasping it. As
fiberglass is made out of finely woven silicon, glass dust and puny shards of glass are formed. These can cause damage to the eyes, lungs, and even
skin if the proper protection supplies isn't worn. Nevertheless, after the proper protection supplies is utilized, fiberglass connection can be gave lacking
incident. Fiberglass is an brilliant non–flammable insulation physical, alongside R–values fluctuating from R–2.9 to R–3.8 each inch. If you are
pursuing a inexpensive insulation this is definitely the method to go, nevertheless installing it needs protection precautions. Be sure to use eye
protection, masks, and gloves after grasping this product. Mineral Wool. 2. Crystal Wool Mineral wool truly mentions to countless disparate kinds
of insulation. First, it could denote to glass wool that is fiberglass manufactured from reprocessed glass. Second, it could denote to rock wool that
is a kind of insulation made from basalt. Finally, it could denote to slag wool that is produced from the slag from steel mills. The bulk of crystal
wool in the United States is truly slag wool. Mineral wool can be bought in batts or as a loose material. Most crystal wool does not have additives to

Safe Disposal of Insulation Material
There have been various types of Insulating materials used within the electrical power industry since the beginning of electrical power. And over the
years scientist and environmentalist have discovered that most if not all insulating materials are harmful to the human body or the environment in one
way or another, being shot term or long term exposures. First of all, the term insulating material refers to a substance that has the ability to resist
electrical energy flow to make a conductor or copper wire safe to touch by human hands for instance. But all these insulating materials will break
down at a certain limit if the power is strong enough, so this tells us that there is no such thing as a perfect insulator. This example explained above is
one use for an insulating material within the electrical power industry. Insulators serve many advanced purposes and conditions. Be it Arc suppression
within circuit breakers or voltage insulation on power lines, or even protective equipment worn by electrical workers. A majority of these insulating
materials have been known to cause health hazards to humans and environmental hazards to the environment which will be discussed in a bit more

Rabbit Skin Robes and Blanket throughout Western North...
This article starts off by talking about the wide geographic distribution and considerable time depth of rabbit skin robes and blankets throughout
western North America. Many accounts of rabbit skin blankets and robes suggest that they are very warm. Rabbit skin items are one of the items
of material culture that remained constant from the archaic period up into the historic period. Rabbit skin items are mentioned in early literature
of primary accounts but have been carried over into the secondary literature. Howard Egan, a pioneer and explorer, observed Shoshone women
making rabbit skin robes, and later wrote in his diary, "when hung around the neck the person so clothed can stand in a hard rain or snow storm
and not one drop of wet will pass through the robe. They are wind and rain proof and almost cold proof" (Egan 1917:238). Many accounts have
been found about people making items out of rabbit skin such as the Anasazi, Mogollon, and Hohokam. These accounts suggest that every member
of the group, regardless of sex or age, owned one to wear on cold days, to sleep in, and to be interred in after death. These kinds of accounts came
from the 1800s and early 1900s. There have been many advances in technology have which have made it possible for us to manufacture materials that
can keep us alive in extreme environments such as the top of Mt. Everest to the depths of Antarctica. So the question is compared to modern materials,
how warm could rabbit skin robes actually have

The Building Of Building A Building
The building envelope is the building shell or enclosure that separates the interior of a building with the outdoor environment. This physical separator
serves as an important component to maintain a comfortable and healthy indoor environment by transferring the air, water, heat, light and noise. The
components of an envelope typically include walls, fenestration, floors, roof and doors with additional parts such as thermal insulation and shading
devices. As discussed above, the climate is an important factor when designing a building. A well–designed envelope with high performance should be
accustomed to the local climate. Accordingly, there are arid climate envelope, tropical climate envelope, cold envelope and mixed cold/hot climate
envelope which may be composed of components such as sheets and blocks. The building envelope have a big influence on whole building's energy
usage. An energy effective building envelope design saved as much as 35% and 47% of total and peak cooling demands respectively. At the same time
building code requirements on envelopes have increased significantly. Although the codes and standards used in local and state level of government
varies in place, they all derivate from ASHRAE and International Energy Conservation Code (IECC).
Walls are a major part of a building envelope and are expected to maintain a thermal and acoustic comfort inside the building. The crucial performance
factor of the wall is thermal resistance (R–value) since it

The Development And Application Of Nanomaterials Has Allowed
The development and application of nanomaterials has allowed society and the environment to benefit in many ways. Nanomaterials are
three–dimensional objects that have one of their dimensions in the range of 1–100nm. They can exist in nature or be created from pre–existing
materials. Their exceptionally small size means that nanomaterials possess unique physical, chemical and mechanical characteristics that might
otherwise not exist with the same materials on a larger scale. In some cases, nanomaterials have enhanced properties of the original material. Research

The development of nanosponges has created a new way of neutralising and removing toxins from the body. Toxins include pore–forming toxins, which
destroy healthy cells by creating holes in their membranes. Nanosponges are biocompatible polymers of nanoparticles, which are coated with a
membrane similar to a red blood cell's to travel undetected through the body. This synthetic membrane attracts toxins and inhibits them from damaging
cell membranes. Upon reaching the liver, the toxin and the nanosponge are eliminated from the body. Unlike other highly specific anti–toxin platforms,
nanosponges can absorb a wide variety of toxins, regardless of molecular structures (Zhang et al, 2013). This broadens the treatment options for many
pathogen–related infections. Experimental results show that pre–inoculation with nanosponges allowed 89% of lab mice to survive lethal doses of
toxins, while administering nanosponges after the lethal doses allowed 44% of lab mice to survive. It was observed that a single nanosponge could
absorb up to 850 toxins, depending on the type of toxin (Zhang et al, 2013). According to post–doctoral researcher Che–Ming Jack Hu, one of the first
applications of nanosponges will be an anti–virulence treatment for MRSA, which is a bacterium that is resistant to many antibiotics. The research was

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But it would not serve you well in hot climates. In warm countries, where the sun shines throughout the daytime; radiation is the form of heat transfer. Which means you need something that can reflect the heat rays. Bulk Insulation is not the right type for this purpose, and reflective insulation should be your choice. Some manufacturers now manufacture thick insulation with a reflective layer on one side. Anyway, the effectiveness of them is not clear yet. Risks of insulation: Bulk Insulation removal and installation can be dangerous due to the materials used to produce them. Anyway, you don't have to worry about asbestos contamination because modern insulation is 100% free from asbestos. Loose–fill types can go everywhere, and you need machines for installation. Reflective insulation, on the other hand; is much straightforward to remove and install. Some final words: Before choosing insulation for your home, do your research about the climate zone. Of course, you can talk to a professional in the insulation industry for better advice on the right type to install in your home. He will confirm whether your old insulation contains asbestos or not. • 2. Questions On Structural Insulation Panels Introduction Nowadays, structural insulation panels (SIPs) are used increasingly in a wide range of different structural applications. Therefore, this report investigates into widespread aspects of the SIPs to confirm the appropriateness of panels that can be combined into design work. To construct this report, several sections have been researched .The analysis includes the explanation, history, and operation of SIPs. Also, case studies: River Studio by SjГ¶lander da Cruz Architects and Museum of Outdoor Arts Element House by MOS Architects are used to investigate about panels used onto buildings. Moreover, the report briefly explains the benefits and detriments of panels. Last but not least, the comparison between alternative systems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They have taken the continuous research on SIPs for over 30 years which helped to develop the SIPs in its design and materials. ( Panjehpour, Ali, and Voo, 2013) In 1936, Frank Lloyd Wright used a form of SIPs to construct the Usonian homes. Alden B. Dow, an Americanarchitect who was the student of Frank Lloyd Wright, created the first foam core SIPs in 1952. Rigid foam insulation became accessible when the affordable SIPs had mass production by the 1960s. (Morley, 2000) Operation SIPs are prefabricated panels, which are assembled and pre–cut in the manufactory. Features such as window openings, headers can be included on the panels according to the design submission by a builder. (Cold Climate Housing Research Center, 2015) Figure 1.2 SIPs are cutting in the factory The size and thickness of panels depend on the application and thermal or structural requirements. In the United Kingdom , the material of panels normally is orientated strand board grade 3 or plywood combined with various plastic foams including expanded polystyrene, extruded polystyrene, urethane and other similar insulation cores. (Porteous and Kermani, 2013) Panels must comply with the standards of fire safety and load–bearing according to the International Building Code and the International Residential Building Code .(Cold Climate Housing Research Center, 2015)

  • 4. Blown In Insulation Research Paper Blown In Insulation May Be The Solution For Staying Warmer In The Winter If it seems like your power bill is higher in the winter than it used to be, it might be because you need to add insulation to your attic. Insulation can compress over time, or it can get wet from attic leaks and cease to work like it should. Adding insulation could improve the energy efficiency in your home and that in turn will reduce your power bill. While you can choose from a few different types of insulation to add, blown in insulation is often the best option. Here are a few things to know. Apply It Over Existing Insulation As long as your current insulation is not wet or moldy, you can have new insulation blown in over top of it. This will save you from the labor of pulling up old insulation that could release fiberglass, mouse droppings, or other dangers into the air that might circulate through your home. However, if you need to pull out the existing insulation, you will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fiberglass is one option. It can be blown into your attic, but there is the risk that tiny bits of fiberglass will become airborne and float through your home. For that reason, the contractor might install a netting system over the fiberglass to hold it in place. The advantage of using blown in fiberglass over batts is that the blow in variety is able to settle itself evenly over the floor of your attic, and isn't confined to the shape of the batts that might leave small gaps uninsulated. Cellulose is the more common type of blown in insulation. It is made from recycled paper and cardboard that is treated to be fire retardant. It is heavier than fiberglass, so it stays put once it is blown in. Although it is heavy, it is manufactured to be fluffy. This allows for air circulation that prevents mold. Plus, the trapping of air pockets improves insulating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Effects Of Thermal On The Indoor Environment Thermal bridging Introduction Over 40% of global energy consumption occurs in the construction industry (Shao, 2014). One means of reducing energy consumption in this sector is to increase the thermal efficiency of buildings. The building envelope has been developed to isolate the indoor environment from the outdoor environment, in order to raise the energy efficiency of a building, and to create a healthier indoor environment (Ge et al., 2013; Al–Sane and Zedan, 2012). Civil engineers must select appropriate materials, namely insulation materials with a track record of high thermal efficiency, so that the costs of air conditioning and heating equipment can be reduced (Ge et al., 2013). It should be noted that thermal bridges appear have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the second section, the potential effects of these thermal bridges are presented and discussed. The final section contains recommendations on how to reduce or eliminate (the effects of) thermal bridges. Figure 1: an example of thermal bridging between a ceiling and a roof (source: Cunningham, 2011). Location of thermal bridges Thermal bridges may appear in different parts of a building, including roofs, walls, and structural members. There are two main types of thermal bridge, which are caused by poor design (Sch?ck, 2014). The first is a material thermal bridge, which occurs when adjacent materials have different conductivities(ibid). An example of this type of thermal bridge is shown in Figure 2. Firstly, the thermal conductivity of the two types of glazing is different, therefore, more heat transferred through one of these two types of glazing making it a thermal bridge. In addition, the thermal conductivity of the glazing is different from that of the frame, hence, there is more heat loss through the frame, against which there is a higher exterior temperature, compared with those beside the other elements. Figure 2: example of a material thermal bridge (image and photograph by author). Another type is a structural thermal bridge. This type of thermal bridge can occur in the interface between building elements (Paul et al., 2008). One typical example is at the junction between walls (see Figure 3). This can occur when one wall is

Insulation Lab Write Up Introduction Humans have been using insulation since the beginning of time: building physical structures to protect them from the elements with wood, stone, and earth using furs and pelts or pieces of cloth to put on the sides of their structure to retain the desired temperature indoors. From early Romans using cork for their shoes to using cork and other materials to insulate pipes. Insulation has been crucial to the development of the human race. Man made fibers were beginning to be created during the industrial period. Asbestos was very popular during the early twentieth century until it was deemed unsafe and more environmentally safe methods were created such as fiberglass and cellulose spray foam to increase the R–values. They can only use materials that are present in their areas that are low cost to them. Our idea is to find the most efficient, readily available material that provides the highest R–value to insulate their homes with. Higher insulation would keep lower the amount of wood or other material to heat their homes. This would save them money by not having to purchase material and help the environment by not producing COв‚‚ gas with other greenhouse gases. This information could also be helpful to residents of already developed nations. Modern day insulation materials are costly to produce and purchase and hurtful to the environment to produce. They are also caustic to the skin and protective equipment must be worn to protect the installers. Attention to the insulation can "lower your heating and cooling costs" because it costs money to keep a house warm in winter and cool in summer (Insulation. 2016). Many people may be looking for cheaper methods to insulate their homes. This experiment would help in trying to save money too. Pipe Insulation Benefits Exploring the Benefits of Pipe Insulation If you ask any plumber or home improvement specialist is you should bother insulating the pipes in your basement, the overwhelming answer will be yes, of course you should. However, you may be wondering why you would take the time and expense to wrap them in foam or other material. What are the reasons behind insulating residential pipes and what are the benefits to you? The benefits for pipe insulation come in three basic forms, all of which have the eventual result of saving you money. Insulation reduces heat loss in hot water pipes, helps prevent freezing of water lines, and prevents condensation from forming on the outside. How does this translate into saving you money? Keeping the Hot Water Hot... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Home improvement experts estimate that by properly insulating your hot water pipes, you can turn the temperature of your water heater down about 2 to 4 degrees. This translates into a direct savings on your energy bill. Admittedly, most savings are not huge, but they continue year after year. They often recoup the cost of installing the insulation the first year. Keeping the Cold Water From Freezing If you live above the freezing line, then you have probably heard horror stories about water pipes freezing and bursting. This causes hundreds, and sometimes thousands of dollars' worth of damage. Water usually comes from the supply at about 50 degrees Celsius. When it enters your home, it is emerging from the (relatively) warm underground into a below–freezing environment. With little to no water movement, that water freezes solid, expands, and breaks out of the pipe. Insulation stops this thermal transfer, keeping your pipes from freezing and saving you the cost of cleanup. Nobody Likes a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If you use it as a workspace or game room, you'll want to make sure it is well insulated so your portable heater or air conditioner won't have to work as hard. One important step is to insulate your garage door since it is a likely source of air leaks. Here's what you need to know about making your garage door more energy efficient. Insulate An Existing Door If you don't want to buy a new door, you can add insulation to your current garage door. An easy way to do this is with foam board. Foam board is light so it won't add much weight to your door. The boards slide into the panels of your garage door and create an air pocket that acts as insulation to keep cold air outside and warm air inside. You could also attach fiberglass insulation or another insulating material, but you have to be aware of how much weight you add to the door, so you don't cause it to malfunction. ... If you want the cheapest price and don't care about controlling the climate in your garage, then you may not want to spend the extra money on an insulated door. However, an insulated garage door has several benefits, and you may find the extra cost is worthwhile. These are some of the reasons to consider buying an insulated garage door. Soundproofing Insulation acts as a sound barrier, so if you want to block out traffic noises from the street, you should probably invest in an insulated garage door. If you want to use your garage as a getaway where you can watch television or listen to music, then you'll appreciate having outside noises muffled. Plus, if you like to play loud music, the insulation will hold down the noise so you won't disturb your neighbors. Insulated garage doors tend to be quieter when they're in operation too. Because they are sturdier, they don't rattle as much when going up and down. This could be important if your garage is next to, or underneath, a bedroom. Climate Control ... Insulation Essay Diana Flatsoussis Review of Literature Insulate – to cover, line, or separate with a material that prevents or reduces the passage, transfer, or leakage of heat, electricity, or sound (Insulate ,2015, pg.1). In this experiment insulation is the main topic. Insulation is used in many things: a house, a refrigerator, walls, clothing, and types of drinking cups. Installation can be made of materials like styrofoam, plastic, and fiberglass. These can be used to keep things hot or cold. Insulation is most commonly for heat and maintaining heat energy. This experiment tests the insulation of several cups and how they keep liquids hot. Each cup used in the experiment has some insulation. The cups have different amounts of insulation. Each of these cups are generally used as insulators for many liquids. Insulation slows the process of heat leaving an object. Most insulation contains lots of air spaces. The air spaces slow the flow of heat leaving the object because the heat takes longer to travel through the air spaces. I will also do this twice one in a small beaker and once in a larger beaker. I will investigate also if I use more water will this affect the heat loss. If I use more water will this hold insulate the water more? So overall I will have four sets of results. Factors of the experiment ========================= In this experiment there are many different factors that could affect my experiment and the results I achieve, the factors are:
  • 21. The amount of water used in each experiment – If I use a large of amount of water this will mean that the water will cool down slower and therefore stay warmer for longer. So the more water I use the longer the water will stay warm, so if I use a small amount of water it will cool down quick. Type of Insulation I will use – This will change the amount of heat loss significantly. Different types of material insulate differently depending on how efficiently the material ... If your insulation isn't as good as it should be, your furnace can run all day, and you'll still be cold. While you probably know about adding insulation to your attic, you may overlook insulating your windows. Here's what you can do to keep cold air from seeping in around your windows. Apply Spray Foam Insulation The first step is to seal all the tiny gaps around your window frames. The ideal product for this is spray foam insulation. While a contractor can also apply spray foam to your attic using a canister and wand, the kind you use around windows comes in a small can you apply yourself. You spray it on as a foam and it fills all the cracks and grooves around the frames before it hardens in place. This effectively blocks air from blowing through gaps. Spray foam insulation quickly dries into a very hard substance. However, if a structure is too tightly sealed, manual ventilation may be needed to inhibit moisture. These are all reasons that you should never attempt to insulate your property yourself. You should also be sure that the person you employ to do this is an experienced professional. Only an insulation expert can know exactly which services and products are the most appropriate for your home. We determine how much insulation to use based on various factors, such as climate, the size of your home, and the thermal performance that a particular insulation product can yield. • 43. Rabbit Skin Robes and Blanket throughout Western North... This article starts off by talking about the wide geographic distribution and considerable time depth of rabbit skin robes and blankets throughout western North America. Many accounts of rabbit skin blankets and robes suggest that they are very warm. Rabbit skin items are one of the items of material culture that remained constant from the archaic period up into the historic period. Rabbit skin items are mentioned in early literature of primary accounts but have been carried over into the secondary literature. Howard Egan, a pioneer and explorer, observed Shoshone women making rabbit skin robes, and later wrote in his diary, "when hung around the neck the person so clothed can stand in a hard rain or snow storm and not one drop of wet will pass through the robe. They are wind and rain proof and almost cold proof" (Egan 1917:238). Many accounts have been found about people making items out of rabbit skin such as the Anasazi, Mogollon, and Hohokam. These accounts suggest that every member of the group, regardless of sex or age, owned one to wear on cold days, to sleep in, and to be interred in after death. These kinds of accounts came from the 1800s and early 1900s. There have been many advances in technology have which have made it possible for us to manufacture materials that can keep us alive in extreme environments such as the top of Mt. Everest to the depths of Antarctica. So the question is compared to modern materials, how warm could rabbit skin robes actually have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Building Of Building A Building The building envelope is the building shell or enclosure that separates the interior of a building with the outdoor environment. This physical separator serves as an important component to maintain a comfortable and healthy indoor environment by transferring the air, water, heat, light and noise. The components of an envelope typically include walls, fenestration, floors, roof and doors with additional parts such as thermal insulation and shading devices. As discussed above, the climate is an important factor when designing a building. A well–designed envelope with high performance should be accustomed to the local climate. Accordingly, there are arid climate envelope, tropical climate envelope, cold envelope and mixed cold/hot climate envelope which may be composed of components such as sheets and blocks. The building envelope have a big influence on whole building's energy usage. An energy effective building envelope design saved as much as 35% and 47% of total and peak cooling demands respectively. At the same time building code requirements on envelopes have increased significantly. Although the codes and standards used in local and state level of government varies in place, they all derivate from ASHRAE and International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). Walls are a major part of a building envelope and are expected to maintain a thermal and acoustic comfort inside the building. The crucial performance factor of the wall is thermal resistance (R–value) since it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Development And Application Of Nanomaterials Has Allowed The development and application of nanomaterials has allowed society and the environment to benefit in many ways. Nanomaterials are three–dimensional objects that have one of their dimensions in the range of 1–100nm. They can exist in nature or be created from pre–existing materials. Their exceptionally small size means that nanomaterials possess unique physical, chemical and mechanical characteristics that might otherwise not exist with the same materials on a larger scale. In some cases, nanomaterials have enhanced properties of the original material. Research and development into nanotechnology has given rise to a whole new variety of scientific applications, rendering previously impossible tasks possible. The engineering of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The development of nanosponges has created a new way of neutralising and removing toxins from the body. Toxins include pore–forming toxins, which destroy healthy cells by creating holes in their membranes. Nanosponges are biocompatible polymers of nanoparticles, which are coated with a membrane similar to a red blood cell's to travel undetected through the body. This synthetic membrane attracts toxins and inhibits them from damaging cell membranes. Upon reaching the liver, the toxin and the nanosponge are eliminated from the body. Unlike other highly specific anti–toxin platforms, nanosponges can absorb a wide variety of toxins, regardless of molecular structures (Zhang et al, 2013). This broadens the treatment options for many pathogen–related infections. Experimental results show that pre–inoculation with nanosponges allowed 89% of lab mice to survive lethal doses of toxins, while administering nanosponges after the lethal doses allowed 44% of lab mice to survive. It was observed that a single nanosponge could absorb up to 850 toxins, depending on the type of toxin (Zhang et al, 2013). According to post–doctoral researcher Che–Ming Jack Hu, one of the first applications of nanosponges will be an anti–virulence treatment for MRSA, which is a bacterium that is resistant to many antibiotics. The research was funded by the National Science Foundation and the National ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
