TREND FORECASTING ASSESSMENT FALL/WINTER
2012–2013
• Trend Research Overview
• This season, menswear will take two different directions: the
tailored, sophisticated man and the casual, well-dressed
man. These trends will encompass neutral tones (black and
gray) with splashes of bright colors (orange, cobalt blue, red,
and yellow) in bold floral prints and stripes.
• The tailored and casual trends will be represented in slim
silhouettes, with all the garments conforming to the male
body.
• Note to students: This slide is meant to serve as a guide. Your Trend
Research Overview should be at least 10–12 sentences in length.
INSPIRATION #1
• Romanticism
• My first inspiration comes from the Romantic Era that took place in
Europe in the 18th century. During this era there was a newfound
understanding of emotions, science, and the arts. The standard look
for men during this era was a tailored three-piece suit and other
garments that conformed to the body.

INSPIRATION #2
• The Gold Rush
• My second inspiration comes from the California Gold Rush of 1849.
During this time men were eager to move West with hopes of finding
gold and striking it rich. These men wore garments that could
withstand the rugged, hot environment.

presentations, students develop skills in researching an issue,
synthesizing the information, organizing data logically, and
presenting findings in an effective
manner.
Requirements: Contains a 10- to 12-sentence trend forecasting
assessment that provides an overview of your trend research;
contains four inspirations; contains
a 3- to 4-sentence interpretation for each inspiration;
inspirations are each presented on separate slides; contains 8–10
theme and garment/accessory images
for each inspiration; images are presented on separate slides
10. following the relevant inspiration slide; contains a reference list
with a complete discipline-
appropriate citation for every image used in the presentation;
slides should follow the same order as the sample presentation
provided by the instructor.
