Essay about My Philosophy of Education
My Philosophy of Education
John Dewy once said that "education is a social preparation . . .education is growth . . . education is not a preparation for life, education is life itself."
Dewey's statement represents the roots of my educational philosophy. I believe that school is a place where students develop social skills that will equip
them for the rest of their lives. I believe that school is a place where students grow mentally, physically, and emotionally. I believe that school is not
only a major tool in the real world battle against ignorance and poverty, but it is also place where dreams come true. I hope to instill creativity,
imagination, and fundamental morals that will follow a child throughout his or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I feel that if this is achieved the student will gain the ability to self–motivate for the sake of learning, and not because it is required. If the student is
able to acquire a lifelong love of learning then, in my opinion, knowledge will not begin and end with the ringing of a school bell. Learning, rather,
will be fueled by continuous curiosity and a desire to discover.
Upon entering my classroom students will encounter a place of discovery where they will be encouraged to think and be creative. Reading lessons will
incorporate questions that check for understanding and discussions that encourage students to voice their opinions. Science will be guided, hands–on
activities, promoting discovery. Students will be asked to hypothesize before learning the facts. In doing this, I hope that I can establish a positive
learning environment, moving my students toward wanting to learn.
In order to create a positive learning environment, my classroom structure will be guided by the beliefs of progressivism. As I previously mentioned, I
will use extensive hands on and cooperative learning lessons that will allow my students to enhance their social skills. Understanding will come through
their own experiences. Integration of subjects will play a major role in the way that I convey the curriculum to my students. Through these types of
learning activities, I hope to create the type of school setting that Dewey

Education Is A Unique Experience For Every Child Who...
Introduction Dr. Seuss once said, "Don't give up. I believe in you all. A person's a person no matter how small." I believe education is a unique
experience for every child who enters a classroom. Each child is unique and deserves a safe and secure classroom with a teacher full of passion for
each child's education. After classroom experience and observing many inspiring educators, I have created a personal philosophy that includes goals for
my students, a method for enacting the goals, and assessing students' goals to ensure proper development of each student. I have a desire to support
each student to reach their fullest potential. I strongly believe in every student and my students will know that.

I will encourage them to push beyond Bloom's knowledge level. Students will be demonstrating critical thinking. They will be immersed in different
activities where they are making meaning and knowledge by asking questions, researching, inventing, and interacting. Students will make connections
with the outside world. Students will also think creatively in order to make meaning on their own. Instead of seeking the teacher, students will make
models to answer their own questions. Students need to know the importance of education. If they know the reason behind learning, then they will
more likely participate in learning. Participating in learning is where students are actively engaged in the lesson. Students should be listening,
participating in discussion, and giving positive feedback to their classmates. I want my classroom to be more student–centered than teacher–centered.
Enactment of Goals In order to achieve the goals for student learning, I will use a variety of teaching methods in my classroom. I believe all students
learn differently. Therefore, differentiating instruction is imperative to reach all learning styles. Lunenburg (2014) discusses how Gardner discovered
that all students exhibit all nine intelligences, but some of them are stronger than others. I want to be able to focus on their stronger areas so they learn
more, however; I want to focus on their weaker areas so they can reach their full potential. I

I Believe Vision And College Alumni Into Accelerating...
Introduction
I believe vision promotes and excels college alumni into accelerating career pathways that promote autonomy, innovation, and leadership expressed
independently and as a team. Fostering the next generation builds the framework for the assumptions relied upon to support the community needs for
career ready hires. In addition, vision aligns personal beliefs and career goals as a career services, director. I would articulate, steward, and promote
this vision to foster alignment with stakeholders – students, parents, and community leaders. In turn, encouraging career goals through exploration
through desires, needs, individual values, behavior and actions. Simply the opportunity to lead in providing students with tools to make strategic and
informed decisions about the career paths.
Articulating a Vision I believe collaborative planning with faculty, career development officers, and hiring recruiters from a shared governance
perspective. In addition, to articulating, developing and rolling out the vision and prompting feedback to measure those expected outcomes. I would
start by communicating with those who teach, requesting structured curriculum to incorporate career opportunities relative to their courses. The
effective avenues to reach the masses would include forums, press releases, college open houses, career fairs, website presence, faculty retreats, courses
and college–wide updates – all areas requiring community/workforce collaboration.

Disadvantages Of Digital Media
Each practice discussed above integrates multiple aspects of 21st century education. The research task using digital media is highly student–centred, as
students are engaged in their own learning with their teacher as a guide, rather than in an authoritarian role (Senge et al., 2012). Rather than bring in a
firefighter, the students can actively research their own questions and concerns while the teacher works with them in continuous learning. Furthermore,
rather than children learning through competitive question asking, which Senge et al. (2012) identifies to be a traditional approach, they can work
with each other through the use of technology, and share their emotions and stories with one another. Children can engage in deep learning and become
leaders of their learning together (Fullan & Langworthy, 2014). A limitation of this approach is that not all students may have access to digital
technologies at home and can have limited experience, which can therefore cause a digital divide between students and leave some disadvantaged.
It is understood that "hands–on experiences are considered by many to be the essential condition for acquiring new concepts or understandings" (Butts,
Hofman & Anderson, 1993, p. 1), however, there are some limitations to the21st century learning approach. A benefit of the hands–on learning
approach is the level of engagement it has for children as it is about children being active participants in the task. This ensures equal opportunity for

Draft of Personal Philosophy Statement
In the field of higher education, I will welcome with open arms, accept, affirm, and celebrate all students by creating an environment that is equal and
inclusive for all people regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, cultural background, religion, family structure, economic status,
learning ability, linguistic ability, and/or learning style. I will create an environment that includes positive, challenging experiences that will give each

12, 2002). In their research Gurin, Dey, Hurtado and Gurin found that "diversity experiences had robust effects on education outcomes for all groups of
students" (pp. 26, 2002). The article further detailed how their research showed when students have consistent diverse experiences" they meaningfully
affect important learning and democracy outcomes of a college education" (pp. 34, 2002). When it comes to developing one's personal educational
philosophy, empirical data is important and has the ability to give us information that we can use to assess whether or not our beliefs and strategies we
intend to use will be effective and have the outcomes we are seeking.
The established higher education model that I tend to gravitate toward and support in my higher education philosophy is the student centered learning
theory also sometimes called learner–centered teaching or a student–centered model. The theory of student–centered learning can be contributed to
Hayward as early as 1905 and in 1956 to John Dewey (O'Neill and McMahon, n.d.). The student centered model is driven by a need for a change in the
traditional educational environment and when incorporated and implemented correctly we will see

As a teacher, my philosophy of education focuses on the individual child and their educational needs. I would like my students to feel comfortable,
develop their communication skills, and build positive character traits. Along with encouraging the children to grow in a positive way, I will treat
children equally for grading along with providing them with the skills they need in order to achieve the most they can academically. Classroom
Environment I strive for my classroom to be a place where children feel comfortable. In the classroom children should feel comfortable enough to

I believe that students learn best through experiences and hands–on activities. It is my job to show the students what we are learning and why, so
through my teaching, they should never question what we are doing. I want my students to come into the classroom each day excited to learn
because they know that we are going to be doing something fun and exciting. Although they will be having fun, they will be learning too because I
will create lesson plans that are engaging and also very full of content. I want the content and activities to be open in order for the children to make
connections. In order to begin a lesson and decide what activities I will do, I will provide a pretest in order to see what the students already know
and can do. The pretest will also serve as an intro into what the students will be learning, so they know what we are going to learn and what is

A Reflection On My Philosophy Of Education
My philosophy of education is that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and
mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. A safe environment is very beneficial to a child's learning. Providing a safe environment
will allow a child to expand his or her horizons and feel free to learn new tasks and topics. A vision statement is a public declaration that schools use to
describe their high–level goals for the future and for what they hope to achieve if they successfully fulfill their organizational purpose. A vision
statement may also describe a school's ideals, its organizational values, long–term objectives, or what it hopes its students will learn or be capable of
doing after graduating.
We will have a peaceful, productive, caring, and orderlylearning environment that meets the academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of
all students. Our goal is to prepare students for a successful school experience without the need for remediation.
I incline to have an effective impact on the culture at Waynesboro Middle School. There will be a reinforcement of trust, collaborative decision
making, and a shared sense of purpose within the school environment. Everyone will be a lifelong learner at the school including: students, teachers,
parents, and administrators. Professional development will be a key aspect in meeting the needs of diverse learners and student achievement; in

THE INTERSECTION OF INCLUSION, SCHOOL CULTURE, AND SOCIAL JUS
–TICE LEADERSHIP Educating students with disabilities has
evolved immensely throughout history. Initially, students with disabilities were isolated and institutionalized. Society 's perception was that it was not
necessary or beneficial to invest time or resources into this group of people (Spaulding & Pratt, 2015; Dybwad, 1990; Winzer, 1998). Direct advocacy
and litigations caused changes in federal legislation (Griffith, 2015; Lloyd & Lloyd, 2015). Due to the civil rights movement, stu–dents with disabilities
became part of the public educational system. Our current system has evolved to the level that educators work as teams to create individual learning

Theoharis (2007) defines social justice leadership whereby principals "make issues of race, class, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other
historically and currently marginalized con–ditions in the US central to their advocacy, leadership practice, and vision" (p. 223). Leaders with a social
justice orientation create a strategic plan that seeks to inform and educate stake–holders about inclusion. These leaders work to transform a school
culture that embraces inclusion to support students with disabilities (Cohen, 2015). Hence, inclusion can substantially affect school culture. School
leaders must find a way to infuse inclusion into school culture for stu–dents with disabilities to be successful. According to Coulston and Smith (2013),
school culture and inclusion rely on each other to create the greatest impact on students. School leaders must have a positive attitude regarding
inclusion for it to work. The attitude of school leaders is critical in shaping school cultures that embrace inclusive practices to meet the social,
academic, and emotional needs of all students (Pe–terson & Deal, 2016). Attitudes of all stakeholders are developed based on the sup–port they

Ever since I was in the seventh grade I knew that teaching was the profession for me. I had a wonderful teacher, Cathy Adkins, who was and still is
my greatest inspiration. She was not like any teacher I had in the past. She was different. I call it the "personal effect," because she just wasn't a
teacher, she was a friend. I know we are taught not to make friends with students, but it really does make a difference. I want to be the kind of teacher
that a student feels comfortable coming to about anything, one that can take time out of there personal life because a student needs them. I want to

Breaking out my pragmatist side again, student involvement in making classroom rules is also quite important. Within limits, I will allow the students
to democratically create the rules. I, on the other hand, will decide the appropriate consequences for the classroom delinquency. If the students are
active partners in making the rules, they are more likely to follow these set rules. But how will my class be set up?
The teacher should be the center of attention for the students. To ensure this I will have the desk placed at the front of the classroom with the
student's desks in rows facing the appropriate direction. I want bulletin boards that are colorful and full of the past. I want to inundate my students
with knowledge at every turn. I want the class to be free flowing because I do not want to stand behind a podium to lecture; I want to be able to walk
around the room freely. I feel it makes the lecture a bit more interesting, and less "humdrum."
Textbooks are where I see the need for some type of educational reform. They are completely outdated and not conclusive. In one of my courses, the
instructor had pre–read the text, and on the first night of class, he ripped the book into pieces. His reason was simple, "They just want to show the
politically correct side of what occurred, you as students, deserve to know what really happened." For the rest of the

Writing my educational philosophy has required me to do an extensive amount of personal research that has taken me on some wonderful, inward
journeys over the past few months. Voyages through my cognitive and behavioral personas from the beginning of my educational endeavor back in
1992 up until the present day. I have been digging diligently through my archives pulling out old papers I composed regarding my initial views toward
education. I have reflected on my days in the writing center at George Mason University as a composition tutor. Plus, I evaluate myself in the classroom

This type of instructional method, and its varying implementations, provides the opportunity for each student to make a substantial contribution to his
/her team. This contribution is where learning occurs. I do realize that there is a large gap between research and practice, and I know that
cooperative learning is not a definite solution to my goals. What it provides is a means to a continuous labor of love moving closer to this goal, not a
means to an end. Therefore, as an ongoing task, research will evolve as will my classroom practice. But, I do see some implementation rules that appear
to be steadfast and help form my thoughts on constructing my future cooperative learning classroom.
Room preparation is the first rule. A classroom that I observed during a field placement assignment for Concord College had five, round tables with
five chairs at each along with a computer. The round tables were organized in a horseshoe shape with the teacher's workstation located at the opening
of the "U". This was a great example of how a cooperative learning room must be set up to enhance all forms of active interaction. The groups must be
small and contain mixed abilities as well as a combination of gender and ethnic diversity. Third, an award system must be established along with a
format for tracking improvement

Absolute is discovered and true regardless of person, place, or time. Knowledge is constantly changing. Everyday we discover something new and
these discoveries often prove that what was previously thought to be true is completely false. Some of the things I learned as a student were
absolute and will never change; such as the solution to a algebra problem. In my classroom, I plan to use both relative and absolute knowledge
because they are both very important. Students relative knowledge will be useful when discussing topics where each student will have their own
opinion. The purpose of education is to teach the basics of knowledge and to challenge each individual to learn. Education is a vital part of life. It
holds a strong barring on who we are and what we believe in. Education also has a major impact on our position in society. I want the children in my
classroom to understand how important education is, and I want them to leave my classroom with a yearning to further their education. While in my
classroom, I also want to help my students find the areas that spark interest in them the most. I hope that I become a teacher who leaves a positive
impression on every child that enters my classroom. As a lower level elementary teacher, I hold a strong belief in essentialism. I agree that students
must know the basics of academic knowledge so they can build upon that. My goal is to help my students master the basics

Did you know there are many kinds of programs and approaches used in early childhood education? The 20th century was the start of inclusive
classrooms and about the idea of education for all. Education in the early preschool years boomed with early childhood development programs. While
there are many popular approaches, I find that Maria Montessori and Rudolf Steiner have the reliable strait forward and captivating approaches to early
childhood education.

Children will stay with the class, and teacher, for the entire cycle, shaping a stable community and meaningful bonds ("Introduction to montessori,"
2011). You won't find the expected rows of school desks in these programs either. Children work at tables or on the floor, rolling out mats on which to
work and define their work space. The classrooms are set up to have natural lighting, soft colors, and uncluttered spaces for activities that are focused
and calm. More than 4,000 Montessori schools dot the American landscape, and thousands more can be found on 6 continents worldwide
("Introduction to montessori," 2011).
Rudolf Steiner developed the Waldorf education. This is the view in which the child develops through a number of basic stages as he/ she grows from
childhood to adulthood. Waldorf education strives to develop in each child their innate talents and abilities through the use of curriculum which
develops imagination and creativity ("Early child care," 2010). In the United States there are more than 160 schools across the continent, 250 early
childhood centers. Within all these centers the approach to learning in early childhood is through imitation, imagination and example. The basic goals
of Waldorf education are to build free, equal, and collaborative society. To develop free human beings who have a purpose and a direction in life as
well as to achieve a balanced development of mind, body, and spirit.

Inclusive Education Essay
What is inclusive education? Inclusive education is concerned with the education and accommodation of ALL children in society, regardless of their
physical, intellectual, social, or linguistic deficits. Inclusion should also include children from disadvantaged groups, of all races and cultures as well
as the gifted and the disabled (UNESCO, 2003). Inclusion tries to reduce exclusion within the education system by tackling, responding to and meeting
the different needs of all learners (Booth, 1996). It involves changing the education system so that it can accommodate the unique styles and way of
learning of each learner and ensure that there is quality education for all through the use of proper resources, suitable curricula, appropriate... Show

Inclusive education also recognises that learning occurs both at home and in the community and therefore the support of parents, family and the
community is vital (Department of Education, 2001). Truly inclusive schools understand the uniqueness of every child, that all children can learn
and that all children have different gifts, strengths learning styles and needs. These schools then provide the appropriate means and support through
which these needs can be met (UNESO, 2003) The necessity for making schools and classrooms inclusive in South Africa Inclusion has become a
necessity in South Africa as South Africa has a history of violence and the education system has always been politicised and used by the ruling class
as a way of marginalising and stigmatising various groups in society (De Lange, 1989). Inequalities in our society, lack of access to basic services
and poverty are prevailing historical factors that place our children at risk and still lead to severe exclusion of children with barriers to learning
(whether it be economic, social, intellectual, language, socio–economic or physical barriers) (UNESCO, 2005). Today there are still about two hundred
and eighty thousand learners with disabilities or impairments that are not in any form of education (Department of Education, 2001). Inclusion is
therefore necessary because all learners have a right to an education, to be accepted and given the

Stonewall Institute Of Learning And Enrichment Essay
This paper will cover and highlight the history and details of the Stonewall Institute of Learning and Enrichment (SMILE), its pragmatic–rooted
educational philosophies, and explain how education is managed as a student progresses from Apprentice, to Journeyman, and finally to Master Mason,
after selecting his or her specific area of study for the future.
The Stonewall institute was founded in 1923 and funded with a $100 million grant donated by a man referred to as Barnabas Robertos, a 33rd
Degree Freemason who claimed to be from the Federated States of Micronesia. Not much is known of Mr. Robertos, other than he was a quiet man
who loved Science, especially Chemistry, and always wore a distinctive hat. The money was donated on the condition of future anonymity, and after
the final brick was laid, Mr. Robertos traveled to New Orleans and departed on the ship The Heisenberg was never seen publicly again.
The Institute, as it is often referred to, originally consisted on one building, and later divided up into three main areas of learning for the Apprentices,
Journeyman and masons, which roughly correlate to elementary, middle and high school levels respectively. Over the years, it has expanded
dramatically, and now consists of over 15 buildings or areas covering 15 acres.
The philosophy of the Institute is based on the pragmatic approach to education and the classroom, primarily the idea of always being able to adapt the

There have been many philosophies passed down through the years by many great educators. Views and opinions that have varied from individual to
individual. Some ideas were widely accepted and others were not. I feel that it is important for every educator to obtain their own individual educational
philosophy. An individual philosophy is good way to help an educator become grounded in what they believe and strive to make that philosophy
happen in the classroom. It is a belief that should be strongly believed in and in the end have an impact on the people it is aimed for, which is the

The social setting affects many things in the classroom, so helping the students understand the concept of sharing and being thoughtful of others will
help improve the learning setting, so that students can concentrate on what is important.
As a future educator, I believe that the nature of knowledge is relative. In my personal experience, most knowledge that I have obtained has been
relative knowledge. It has been knowledge that has been passed down to me from different educators. Through this relative knowledge, I can instill in
students the motivation to be educated, and help them realize the opportunities that an education provides them. I can pass down my knowledge and
my beliefs to each student in hopes that it will make a difference in their views and ideas about being educated and will get them excited about learning.
The overall purpose of education is not only to shape society, but also to shape the individual. I firmly believe that education is capable of making a
person better and improving the quality of life. Through education, a person can achieve unbelievable goals, and live a life that is fulfilling and
successful. In this particular area in which we live, people have neglected to become educated and live in ways that are not necessary. An education
can give a person opportunities of a lifetime. Education is such an important aspect of success, and can take someone farther than they ever dreamed.

The Education Of The United States Essay
The purpose of education in the United States has been designed to meet the changing needs of society, though never quite fast enough to fully reflect
those changes. In its early history, American education reinforced the religious doctrines of the Puritan settlers. During the era of our founders, the
purpose of education shifted to crafting democratic citizens. During the Industrial Revolution school became more about preparing students to be future
workers, punching out students on a pedagogical assembly line. Many of these early ideas persist into the 21st–century, though there is a greater
diversity than ever in educational epistemology. Largely though, the perceived purpose of education in contemporary public schools is to prepare
students to become future citizens who participate in the democratic process, to become skilled workers who contribute to the American work–force,
and/or to help students to become critical thinkers. The purpose of schooling in the United States is and always has been political, and therefore
closely intertwined with the values of Capitalism and the American economy. As a result, the prevailing philosophies of education have been
reactionary and not progressive. To fully prepare students for a future we cannot foresee, education must break beyond these limited boundaries. The
swift progression of technology over the past century has proven that we cannot simply teach students a set of skills to prepare them for what lies
ahead. In The

Autonomy Within The Early Childhood Education Field
This essay will firstly explain the general concept of autonomy and provide a comprehensive definition of autonomy, which including the broad concept
and the meaning of autonomy in the early childhood education field. Secondly will critically consider how Montessori and Rousseau explained the
concept of autonomy, as well as how they represented the ideas of autonomy theory. Finally, this essay will critically consider how the autonomy
concepts associate to writer 's own childhood, and then will examine writer 's own childhood in relation to the context of diverse childhoods, which will
combine with two philosophers ' theories of autonomy.
In Te whДЃriki, the Ministry of Education (1996) states that young children in services, such as kindergarten, playcentres, preschool, home–based care

Adults should not ignore the importance of autonomy in a young child 's grow up process due to the critical impact of autonomy (Zhao, 2014). There

repeated. Slavin states, "Reinforcement will increase the frequency of a behavior with positive or negative consequences." (2012, p. 120) The student
environment impacts student decisions and learning. Positive reinforcement is the application of a stimulus. Negative reinforcement is the application
of a punishment. The role of teachers in behavioral learning theories is to provide immediate and concise feedback of behaviors. Teachers should

Personal Statement Of Educational Goals And Philosophy
I believe each student deserves the right to feel safe and comfortable mentally, physically, and emotionally in the school environment; especially in my
own classroom.
I believe it is my responsibility to create a space where each and every student feels comfortable to share their ideas, thoughts, and questions.
I believe in helping my students to develop a strong work ethic. I want to motivate students to take ownership of their learning (Goal 9).
I believe good teachers are enthusiastic and capable of conveying their enthusiasm to students; constantly look for ways of improving their teaching and
trying to keep abreast of developments in their subjects; and are sufficiently mindful and self–aware to be able to laugh at themselves.

Statement of Philosophy and Educational Goals
In the following report, I will be discussing my personal philosophy on education and my educational goals. My philosophy will include some of my
personal opinions on the nature of students, the nature of knowledge, the purpose of public education, teaching methods and the importance of
curriculum. My educational goals will focus on my development plans and future education.
I feel that it is natural for students, or for that matter anyone, to want to learn. In my own experience, the pursuit of learning requires a high interest

I think when social studies are presented in a manner that gives facts, and then allows for interpretation it is most interesting. That leads me to my
beliefs on what the purpose of public education is.
I feel that the overall purpose of public education is to help students become well– rounded, knowledgeable citizens. I also feel that public education
should also be used to encourage students to pursue higher education. As a teacher, I hope to excite children to learn about social studies. Through my
classroom, I would feel accomplished if students learned, retained, formed opinions, and sought further knowledge on the subject matter that I taught.
In my method of teaching I would tend to be somewhat of an existentialist. I would tend to focus on how students learn. Since history is a large
category of social studies, I would want students to learn many things other than simply facts and dates. I would hope to show students that history is
made up of "real people". I would want to show the culture in which people lived, and relate aspects of that culture to modern day life. When presented
in that manner, I think dates and facts of history become much more important. Through such an analysis, I think a student will personally grow and
look at history in an entirely new manner.
In disciplining my classroom, I would be fair but strict. In my experience, the classrooms that I have in have had discipline problems

Statement of Educational Goals and Philosophy
I can still remember coming home from school after an exciting day in the first grade. I would go straight to my room, line all of my dolls up in the
floor, and "teach" them everything I had learned earlier that day. But of course, not every child who pretends to be a teacher in his or her early years
actually becomes a teacher. So although I enjoyed "teaching," I never really considered it as a choice for my life–long career.
But the summer after ninth grade made me rethink my options. My best friend's dad was in charge of a summer camp for underprivileged children. He
needed some junior counselors for the week, so we volunteered to help; we wouldn't mind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the week progressed and friendships formed between everyone, I realized the importance of the camp to all that were involved. To the counselors it
was a learning experience, as well as a time to appreciate all that we would usually take for granted; to the campers it was a time to learn and make
new friends, and for most of them, it would also serve as their only form of a summer vacation. So although we were all exhausted by the end of the
week, we had a great time.
After seeing the smiles that seemed almost permanent that week, I realized how important it is to work with and help younger children. I also
learned what it's like knowing that you've made a difference in someone's life. I've been a counselor at that same camp for two more years since that
first summer, and it gets better every time. Even though it can be difficult and frustrating to work with children sometimes, the reward that you, as well
as the children, receive is well worth the effort.
Deciding that I wanted to be a teacher didn't take much effort; deciding what kind of teacher I want to be however, takes much more thought. There are
numerous educational philosophies, most of which can be traced back to one of four major perspectives: idealism, realism, pragmatism, and
existentialism. All of these philosophical systems have an impact on educational thought; however, I find it hard to choose

My Eclectic Educational Philosophy
Thinking back on the years of high school, I remember having wonderful experiences both inside the classroom and out. I had influential teachers and
the drive to succeed in order to obtain a higher education. I realize that not all students have that drive to continue their education, but as an aspiring
educator I wish to seek and find that drive in each of my students. The famous philosopher and educator, John Dewey, once said, "The aim of education
is to enable individuals to continue their education –– or that the object and reward of learning is continued capacity for growth." As a facilitating

With English/Language Arts as my content specialization, I will teach my students how to express their ideas and/or feelings properly and how to do
it well. Part of this expression will come through venues such as writings and artwork just to name a few. By accomplishing self–expression, my
students will grow to respect themselves and others. As mentioned before, the progressive philosophy utilizes practical activities and by using this idea,
I can mediate physical interaction to teach communication. Group work, class discussions about inside and outside issues, oral presentations such as
speeches, mock interviews if the grade level allows, and hands–on activities will help in grasping the concept.
One other vast component of communication comes from the social reconstructivism philosophy. As the students build their relationship with their
community, they will possess the capability to be effective future–citizens. Along with this capability, they will be able to apply the fundamentals
elements of society to help them make wise, just choices in their everyday lives. An example of one of these fundamentals would be community service
and knowing how to voice their opinion as a community member when appropriate like voting or starting an organization. The definition of social
reconstructivism education is to change the world and make society better through education. I am a firm believer that "changing the world and making

It may come as no surprise to some that a quality education has the power to provide, for those who seek it, the opportunity of personal and
professional transformation. It can be said that a society which encourages higher education is more likely to yield a population of individuals who
are civic minded and purposeful as opposed to a society which does not. In an article entitled "What Can College Mean? – Lessons from the Bard

BPI wants their students to recognize that the learning process is not easy but is possible with support and discussion.
The third area is BPI's understanding of the importance of a liberal arts education over vocational training. Lagemann points out that there is a
temptation to forgo a liberal arts education over vocational training due to the cost and commitment required for completion. That being said, a liberal
arts education can provide fundamental values necessary in any employment setting with the added value of self–actualization and a foundation for
personal purpose.
As stated above, Lagemann believes in the transformative power of a liberal arts education and believes that it should be available to everyone,
including the prison population. She has experienced first hand, the immense value that a prison education program can provide for inmates and
wishes to utilize the lessons learned at BPI to benefit all. BPI not only illustrates the effectiveness of a college prison program in decreasing dicividism

Statement of Educational Philosophy
A person's philosophy of education is important because it affects the way that their classroom will be run. To be a good teacher, a person should
genuinely like the students and want to make a difference in their lives, giving them the confidence to succeed. There are many things that go into
developing an educational philosophy: The nature of the students, the nature of knowledge, the purpose of education, the method of education, and the
curriculum.

Not only good for themselves, but for other people as well. Education should encourage students to think for themselves because this is a skill that is
used everyday. Another purpose of education is to produce honest people that will respect others. Education is important because without it we
would be nowhere. There are many new things in the world that have come about by people gaining more knowledge through education and putting
it to new use. As a teacher I hope to accomplish many things. I would like to inspire my students to be the best that they can. I want them to know
that they can do anything if they set their mind to it. I want my classroom to be a fun place to learn. I do not want my students to dread coming to my
class; I want them to enjoy my class as well as the whole learning process. My students should leave my classroom with the confidence they need to
survive in the world today.
I think that the method of teaching varies from student to student. I think that the "Socratic method" would work as a basic method in most cases.
Dialogue, discussion, and debate seem to be very effective in the classroom. I also agree with Rousseau in that the child should be happy and in an
environment that promotes the desire to learn. I agree with the pragmatic view that process is more important than product. It is more important that a
student understands something and is able to progress than if they make an A. As

their interpretation. Naturally it is not only the influence of a classroom that shapes a student but many outside factors that determine students' goals

The importance of education is seen in the goals of society from the dominance of math and science to launch the space race, to the back–to–basics

students and educated them to the best of my ability. Furthermore, I hope to set an example for students that is based on respect, truth, honor and

To be an effective teacher requires perseverance , which is something that is extremely important to the profession as a whole. Teaching at times
can be very stressful and frustrating and like any job it can be very easy to give up and quit when times get tough or seem to be spiraling out of
control. Children are very sensitive with their feelings and emotions and sometimes the blame is put on you the teacher by the student even though it
may not be your fault in whatever happened. Parents can be very hard to get along with as well and it requires a lot of composure in explaining issues
that may not be popular with the parent or child. Perseverance is very important to a teacher's well–being as far as staying on task and coming up with
new concepts that can better benefit the students as well as the teacher.
Something that can be easily overlooked in being a teacher is the trait of being a strong moral character . In the occupation field of teaching there
will be times when people will look to you for answers, or opinions that will benefit the teaching environment as well as the curriculum, or will not

WHAT IS HOSPITALITY?
(Introductory Workshop Reasoning for the Importance of Teaching and modelling Hospitality in the Classroom)
When the word 'hospitality' is mentioned in today's context, visions of the television serious 'Master Chef' comes into the minds of many. This is a
vision of a commercialised, profit driven hospitality that is far removed from the Christian view of what it means to be hospitable. The word
'hospitality' however does not have a universal definition and therefore it is necessary to identify what this term means and what it would look like in
the context of a learning community as well as in a classroom. Hospitality in its purist form can be considered the acceptance of another person in
their entirety; without prejudice or judgment of their character or behaviour. As Palmer (1981) suggests, hospitality "means valuing the strangeness of
the stranger......It means meeting the stranger's needs while allowing him or her to be, without attempting to make the stranger over into a modified
version of ourselves" (p.). Letty M Russell also states that hospitality is "the practice of God's welcome, embodied in our actions as we reach across
difference to participate with God in bringing justice and healing to our world in crisis". It is therefore an acceptance that all humans are unique and
created this way by God, and as such, a perfect reflection of his image. Anderson (2011) offers an insight into a hospitable classroom when considering

Education is a very important part of society. I feel that it should teach children how to function in a society, and learn the basics they will need to

function in life, and achieve the goals of their choosing. Education is important because without it I firmly believe that society would be a very
savage institution. With the things that we teach in today's schools we give the power to know the basics such as reading, writing, and math but

The Philosophy Of Education Is Its Differing Aims
Around 2,300 years ago, Aristotle raised many issues regarding the opposing perspectives about the practice of education. He affirmed that there is no
universal accord about whether education should be directed more towards intellectual objectives or towards the character of the individual. He also
proposed that there is doubt about whether education should be aimed at notion valuable for everyday life or at notions approving to virtues. As a matter
of fact, modern day educators are still deliberating the concerns Aristotle raised. Ultimately, the most primitive dilemma thephilosophy of education is
its differing aims. Philosophers of education question, what are the proper aims and leading principles of education? What is the appropriate criterion
for assessing academic attempts, educational institutions, procedures, and outcomes? In fact, diverse proposals to resolving these significant affairs
have given rise to contrasting schools of thought in the philosophy of education. This exploratory paper will analyze and inquire three schools of
thought: Essentialism, Critical Theory and Pragmatism. Each of these schools of thought considers their principles the best. The paper will conclude
with my viewpoint as to where I situate my philosophy of education among these three schools of thought.

PHILOSOPHY ESSAY 2 I remember my history teacher. He would often chat with me in German before or after class; sometimes helping explain

History. Can you remember anything specific from your history class in high school? My hope is that if I were to teach American History, my

course of the year. My philosophy of education is a well–rounded mixture of perennialism, progressivism, social reform, and essentialism. While
students need the rigor of math and science, driven in part by knowing they will be tested; I do believe that it is necessary to include instruction in
practical knowledge that pertains to a student's everyday life. Furthermore, I believe that kids are more willing to learn, when they know their teacher
cares about them on a personal level. Knowledge is important, but the goal in raising children, or teaching other kids, is for them to become mature

Elementary and secondary education classrooms should be highly decorated with posters, charts, maps, and anything else that can be related to the
material that the teacher hopes for the students to learn. Two examples would be information on former presidents or other historical figures at the
secondary level and the alphabet at the elementary level. Also, at this level of public education, I think it is very important for the teacher to show a
positive attitude toward the holidays and decorate bulletin boards for each one. For St. Patrick's Day, for example, there should be leprechauns and
pots of gold displayed. This also gives the students a chance to show off their artistic abilities, as they draw or cut out the shapes for the bulletin
boards. Some teachers probably think that this is more trouble than what it is worth, but I think it would be a real learning experience and could be
used as a motivational tool as well.

Pedagogical Concepts Of Pedagogical Practices
(c)An analysis of pedagogical practices which will enrich the learning opportunities of all children.
Teachers use pedagogical practices so they are able to increase the complexity of a child's learning and the opportunities of all children to learn and
develop in a safe and rich environment for infants and toddlers to explore. Pedagogical practices are the methods teacher's use to support children so
they are able to develop new understandings, skills and increase the complexity of past skills and experiences.
One pedagogical practice is to build respectful, reciprocal and caring relationships. Building these relationships can take time and when teachers are
looking after a big group of children it can be hard to develop the relationships children need. The Sector Advisory Group report recommends for
improving quality of early childhood education for children under three is to introduce regulated group size. In the context of improved ratios such as

Essay About My Philosophy Of Education

  • 1. Essay about My Philosophy of Education My Philosophy of Education John Dewy once said that "education is a social preparation . . .education is growth . . . education is not a preparation for life, education is life itself." Dewey's statement represents the roots of my educational philosophy. I believe that school is a place where students develop social skills that will equip them for the rest of their lives. I believe that school is a place where students grow mentally, physically, and emotionally. I believe that school is not only a major tool in the real world battle against ignorance and poverty, but it is also place where dreams come true. I hope to instill creativity, imagination, and fundamental morals that will follow a child throughout his or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I feel that if this is achieved the student will gain the ability to self–motivate for the sake of learning, and not because it is required. If the student is able to acquire a lifelong love of learning then, in my opinion, knowledge will not begin and end with the ringing of a school bell. Learning, rather, will be fueled by continuous curiosity and a desire to discover. Upon entering my classroom students will encounter a place of discovery where they will be encouraged to think and be creative. Reading lessons will incorporate questions that check for understanding and discussions that encourage students to voice their opinions. Science will be guided, hands–on activities, promoting discovery. Students will be asked to hypothesize before learning the facts. In doing this, I hope that I can establish a positive learning environment, moving my students toward wanting to learn. In order to create a positive learning environment, my classroom structure will be guided by the beliefs of progressivism. As I previously mentioned, I will use extensive hands on and cooperative learning lessons that will allow my students to enhance their social skills. Understanding will come through their own experiences. Integration of subjects will play a major role in the way that I convey the curriculum to my students. Through these types of learning activities, I hope to create the type of school setting that Dewey ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Education Is A Unique Experience For Every Child Who... Introduction Dr. Seuss once said, "Don't give up. I believe in you all. A person's a person no matter how small." I believe education is a unique experience for every child who enters a classroom. Each child is unique and deserves a safe and secure classroom with a teacher full of passion for each child's education. After classroom experience and observing many inspiring educators, I have created a personal philosophy that includes goals for my students, a method for enacting the goals, and assessing students' goals to ensure proper development of each student. I have a desire to support each student to reach their fullest potential. I strongly believe in every student and my students will know that. Goals for Student Learning The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will encourage them to push beyond Bloom's knowledge level. Students will be demonstrating critical thinking. They will be immersed in different activities where they are making meaning and knowledge by asking questions, researching, inventing, and interacting. Students will make connections with the outside world. Students will also think creatively in order to make meaning on their own. Instead of seeking the teacher, students will make models to answer their own questions. Students need to know the importance of education. If they know the reason behind learning, then they will more likely participate in learning. Participating in learning is where students are actively engaged in the lesson. Students should be listening, participating in discussion, and giving positive feedback to their classmates. I want my classroom to be more student–centered than teacher–centered. Enactment of Goals In order to achieve the goals for student learning, I will use a variety of teaching methods in my classroom. I believe all students learn differently. Therefore, differentiating instruction is imperative to reach all learning styles. Lunenburg (2014) discusses how Gardner discovered that all students exhibit all nine intelligences, but some of them are stronger than others. I want to be able to focus on their stronger areas so they learn more, however; I want to focus on their weaker areas so they can reach their full potential. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. I Believe Vision And College Alumni Into Accelerating... Introduction I believe vision promotes and excels college alumni into accelerating career pathways that promote autonomy, innovation, and leadership expressed independently and as a team. Fostering the next generation builds the framework for the assumptions relied upon to support the community needs for career ready hires. In addition, vision aligns personal beliefs and career goals as a career services, director. I would articulate, steward, and promote this vision to foster alignment with stakeholders – students, parents, and community leaders. In turn, encouraging career goals through exploration through desires, needs, individual values, behavior and actions. Simply the opportunity to lead in providing students with tools to make strategic and informed decisions about the career paths. Articulating a Vision I believe collaborative planning with faculty, career development officers, and hiring recruiters from a shared governance perspective. In addition, to articulating, developing and rolling out the vision and prompting feedback to measure those expected outcomes. I would start by communicating with those who teach, requesting structured curriculum to incorporate career opportunities relative to their courses. The effective avenues to reach the masses would include forums, press releases, college open houses, career fairs, website presence, faculty retreats, courses and college–wide updates – all areas requiring community/workforce collaboration. • 4. Disadvantages Of Digital Media Each practice discussed above integrates multiple aspects of 21st century education. The research task using digital media is highly student–centred, as students are engaged in their own learning with their teacher as a guide, rather than in an authoritarian role (Senge et al., 2012). Rather than bring in a firefighter, the students can actively research their own questions and concerns while the teacher works with them in continuous learning. Furthermore, rather than children learning through competitive question asking, which Senge et al. (2012) identifies to be a traditional approach, they can work with each other through the use of technology, and share their emotions and stories with one another. Children can engage in deep learning and become leaders of their learning together (Fullan & Langworthy, 2014). A limitation of this approach is that not all students may have access to digital technologies at home and can have limited experience, which can therefore cause a digital divide between students and leave some disadvantaged. It is understood that "hands–on experiences are considered by many to be the essential condition for acquiring new concepts or understandings" (Butts, Hofman & Anderson, 1993, p. 1), however, there are some limitations to the21st century learning approach. A benefit of the hands–on learning approach is the level of engagement it has for children as it is about children being active participants in the task. This ensures equal opportunity for ... • 5. Draft Of Personal Philosophy Statement 7–2 Final Project Milestone Three: Draft of Personal Philosophy Statement In the field of higher education, I will welcome with open arms, accept, affirm, and celebrate all students by creating an environment that is equal and inclusive for all people regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, cultural background, religion, family structure, economic status, learning ability, linguistic ability, and/or learning style. I will create an environment that includes positive, challenging experiences that will give each individual a positive educational experience free of barriers with the knowledge that postsecondary education can enhance a student 's overall well–being, increase their chances for personal fulfillment ... In their research Gurin, Dey, Hurtado and Gurin found that "diversity experiences had robust effects on education outcomes for all groups of students" (pp. 26, 2002). The article further detailed how their research showed when students have consistent diverse experiences" they meaningfully affect important learning and democracy outcomes of a college education" (pp. 34, 2002). When it comes to developing one's personal educational philosophy, empirical data is important and has the ability to give us information that we can use to assess whether or not our beliefs and strategies we intend to use will be effective and have the outcomes we are seeking. The established higher education model that I tend to gravitate toward and support in my higher education philosophy is the student centered learning theory also sometimes called learner–centered teaching or a student–centered model. The theory of student–centered learning can be contributed to Hayward as early as 1905 and in 1956 to John Dewey (O'Neill and McMahon, n.d.). The student centered model is driven by a need for a change in the traditional educational environment and when incorporated and implemented correctly we will see ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Educational Philosophy Statement As a teacher, my philosophy of education focuses on the individual child and their educational needs. I would like my students to feel comfortable, develop their communication skills, and build positive character traits. Along with encouraging the children to grow in a positive way, I will treat children equally for grading along with providing them with the skills they need in order to achieve the most they can academically. Classroom Environment I strive for my classroom to be a place where children feel comfortable. In the classroom children should feel comfortable enough to express what is on their mind and how they are feeling when discussing different topics. I believe that students learn best through experiences and hands–on activities. It is my job to show the students what we are learning and why, so through my teaching, they should never question what we are doing. I want my students to come into the classroom each day excited to learn because they know that we are going to be doing something fun and exciting. Although they will be having fun, they will be learning too because I will create lesson plans that are engaging and also very full of content. I want the content and activities to be open in order for the children to make connections. In order to begin a lesson and decide what activities I will do, I will provide a pretest in order to see what the students already know and can do. • 7. A Reflection On My Philosophy Of Education My philosophy of education is that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. A safe environment is very beneficial to a child's learning. Providing a safe environment will allow a child to expand his or her horizons and feel free to learn new tasks and topics. A vision statement is a public declaration that schools use to describe their high–level goals for the future and for what they hope to achieve if they successfully fulfill their organizational purpose. A vision statement may also describe a school's ideals, its organizational values, long–term objectives, or what it hopes its students will learn or be capable of doing after graduating. We will have a peaceful, productive, caring, and orderlylearning environment that meets the academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of all students. Our goal is to prepare students for a successful school experience without the need for remediation. I incline to have an effective impact on the culture at Waynesboro Middle School. There will be a reinforcement of trust, collaborative decision making, and a shared sense of purpose within the school environment. Everyone will be a lifelong learner at the school including: students, teachers, parents, and administrators. Professional development will be a key aspect in meeting the needs of diverse learners and student achievement; in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Intersection Of Inclusion, School Culture, And Social... THE INTERSECTION OF INCLUSION, SCHOOL CULTURE, AND SOCIAL JUS –TICE LEADERSHIP Educating students with disabilities has evolved immensely throughout history. Initially, students with disabilities were isolated and institutionalized. Society 's perception was that it was not necessary or beneficial to invest time or resources into this group of people (Spaulding & Pratt, 2015; Dybwad, 1990; Winzer, 1998). Direct advocacy and litigations caused changes in federal legislation (Griffith, 2015; Lloyd & Lloyd, 2015). Due to the civil rights movement, stu–dents with disabilities became part of the public educational system. Our current system has evolved to the level that educators work as teams to create individual learning plans for students... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Theoharis (2007) defines social justice leadership whereby principals "make issues of race, class, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other historically and currently marginalized con–ditions in the US central to their advocacy, leadership practice, and vision" (p. 223). Leaders with a social justice orientation create a strategic plan that seeks to inform and educate stake–holders about inclusion. These leaders work to transform a school culture that embraces inclusion to support students with disabilities (Cohen, 2015). Hence, inclusion can substantially affect school culture. School leaders must find a way to infuse inclusion into school culture for stu–dents with disabilities to be successful. According to Coulston and Smith (2013), school culture and inclusion rely on each other to create the greatest impact on students. School leaders must have a positive attitude regarding inclusion for it to work. The attitude of school leaders is critical in shaping school cultures that embrace inclusive practices to meet the social, academic, and emotional needs of all students (Pe–terson & Deal, 2016). Attitudes of all stakeholders are developed based on the sup–port they re–ceive in an inclusion program. Avramidis and Norwich ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Statement of Educational Philosophy Essay Statement of Educational Philosophy Ever since I was in the seventh grade I knew that teaching was the profession for me. I had a wonderful teacher, Cathy Adkins, who was and still is my greatest inspiration. She was not like any teacher I had in the past. She was different. I call it the "personal effect," because she just wasn't a teacher, she was a friend. I know we are taught not to make friends with students, but it really does make a difference. I want to be the kind of teacher that a student feels comfortable coming to about anything, one that can take time out of there personal life because a student needs them. I want to make a difference; I will make a difference, even if it is just one child. Maybe that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Breaking out my pragmatist side again, student involvement in making classroom rules is also quite important. Within limits, I will allow the students to democratically create the rules. I, on the other hand, will decide the appropriate consequences for the classroom delinquency. If the students are active partners in making the rules, they are more likely to follow these set rules. But how will my class be set up? The teacher should be the center of attention for the students. To ensure this I will have the desk placed at the front of the classroom with the student's desks in rows facing the appropriate direction. I want bulletin boards that are colorful and full of the past. I want to inundate my students with knowledge at every turn. I want the class to be free flowing because I do not want to stand behind a podium to lecture; I want to be able to walk around the room freely. I feel it makes the lecture a bit more interesting, and less "humdrum." Textbooks are where I see the need for some type of educational reform. They are completely outdated and not conclusive. In one of my courses, the instructor had pre–read the text, and on the first night of class, he ripped the book into pieces. His reason was simple, "They just want to show the politically correct side of what occurred, you as students, deserve to know what really happened." For the rest of the ... • 10. Educational Philosophy Educational Philosophy Writing my educational philosophy has required me to do an extensive amount of personal research that has taken me on some wonderful, inward journeys over the past few months. Voyages through my cognitive and behavioral personas from the beginning of my educational endeavor back in 1992 up until the present day. I have been digging diligently through my archives pulling out old papers I composed regarding my initial views toward education. I have reflected on my days in the writing center at George Mason University as a composition tutor. Plus, I evaluate myself in the classroom now as I teach at the local community college as well as in the local junior high and high schools for my student ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This type of instructional method, and its varying implementations, provides the opportunity for each student to make a substantial contribution to his /her team. This contribution is where learning occurs. I do realize that there is a large gap between research and practice, and I know that cooperative learning is not a definite solution to my goals. What it provides is a means to a continuous labor of love moving closer to this goal, not a means to an end. Therefore, as an ongoing task, research will evolve as will my classroom practice. But, I do see some implementation rules that appear to be steadfast and help form my thoughts on constructing my future cooperative learning classroom. Room preparation is the first rule. A classroom that I observed during a field placement assignment for Concord College had five, round tables with five chairs at each along with a computer. The round tables were organized in a horseshoe shape with the teacher's workstation located at the opening of the "U". This was a great example of how a cooperative learning room must be set up to enhance all forms of active interaction. The groups must be small and contain mixed abilities as well as a combination of gender and ethnic diversity. Third, an award system must be established along with a format for tracking improvement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Statement of Educational Goals and Philosophy Essay Statement of Educational Goals and Philosophy As children we have many goals and dreams. Eventually, the time comes when we have to make a career decision based on our interests and goals. The choices that we make now will have a lasting effect on our lives. Like most college students I have explored many career options, but I am always lead back to the education field. Teachers have a very difficult job because they have the power to shape and inspire our future nation. Although that can be an intimidating and often scary thought, it also gives me inspiration to move ahead in pursuing my goal of becoming a teacher. I have always had a passion for children. Knowledge is constantly changing. Everyday we discover something new and these discoveries often prove that what was previously thought to be true is completely false. Some of the things I learned as a student were absolute and will never change; such as the solution to a algebra problem. In my classroom, I plan to use both relative and absolute knowledge because they are both very important. Students relative knowledge will be useful when discussing topics where each student will have their own opinion. The purpose of education is to teach the basics of knowledge and to challenge each individual to learn. Education is a vital part of life. It holds a strong barring on who we are and what we believe in. Education also has a major impact on our position in society. I want the children in my classroom to understand how important education is, and I want them to leave my classroom with a yearning to further their education. While in my classroom, I also want to help my students find the areas that spark interest in them the most. I hope that I become a teacher who leaves a positive impression on every child that enters my classroom. As a lower level elementary teacher, I hold a strong belief in essentialism. I agree that students must know the basics of academic knowledge so they can build upon that. My goal is to help my students master the basics ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The 20th century was the start of inclusive classrooms and about the idea of education for all. Education in the early preschool years boomed with early childhood development programs. While there are many popular approaches, I find that Maria Montessori and Rudolf Steiner have the reliable strait forward and captivating approaches to early childhood education. • 13. Inclusive Education Essay What is inclusive education? Inclusive education is concerned with the education and accommodation of ALL children in society, regardless of their physical, intellectual, social, or linguistic deficits. Inclusion should also include children from disadvantaged groups, of all races and cultures as well as the gifted and the disabled (UNESCO, 2003). Inclusion tries to reduce exclusion within the education system by tackling, responding to and meeting the different needs of all learners (Booth, 1996). It involves changing the education system so that it can accommodate the unique styles and way of learning of each learner and ensure that there is quality education for all through the use of proper resources, suitable curricula, appropriate... Inclusive education also recognises that learning occurs both at home and in the community and therefore the support of parents, family and the community is vital (Department of Education, 2001). Truly inclusive schools understand the uniqueness of every child, that all children can learn and that all children have different gifts, strengths learning styles and needs. These schools then provide the appropriate means and support through which these needs can be met (UNESO, 2003) The necessity for making schools and classrooms inclusive in South Africa Inclusion has become a necessity in South Africa as South Africa has a history of violence and the education system has always been politicised and used by the ruling class as a way of marginalising and stigmatising various groups in society (De Lange, 1989). Inequalities in our society, lack of access to basic services and poverty are prevailing historical factors that place our children at risk and still lead to severe exclusion of children with barriers to learning (whether it be economic, social, intellectual, language, socio–economic or physical barriers) (UNESCO, 2005). Today there are still about two hundred and eighty thousand learners with disabilities or impairments that are not in any form of education (Department of Education, 2001). • 14. Stonewall Institute Of Learning And Enrichment Essay This paper will cover and highlight the history and details of the Stonewall Institute of Learning and Enrichment (SMILE), its pragmatic–rooted educational philosophies, and explain how education is managed as a student progresses from Apprentice, to Journeyman, and finally to Master Mason, after selecting his or her specific area of study for the future. The Stonewall institute was founded in 1923 and funded with a $100 million grant donated by a man referred to as Barnabas Robertos, a 33rd Degree Freemason who claimed to be from the Federated States of Micronesia. Not much is known of Mr. Robertos, other than he was a quiet man who loved Science, especially Chemistry, and always wore a distinctive hat. The money was donated on the condition of future anonymity, and after the final brick was laid, Mr. Robertos traveled to New Orleans and departed on the ship The Heisenberg was never seen publicly again. The Institute, as it is often referred to, originally consisted on one building, and later divided up into three main areas of learning for the Apprentices, Journeyman and masons, which roughly correlate to elementary, middle and high school levels respectively. Over the years, it has expanded dramatically, and now consists of over 15 buildings or areas covering 15 acres. The philosophy of the Institute is based on the pragmatic approach to education and the classroom, primarily the idea of always being able to adapt the classroom or material to be taught to whatever to ... • 18. The Education Of The United States Essay The purpose of education in the United States has been designed to meet the changing needs of society, though never quite fast enough to fully reflect those changes. In its early history, American education reinforced the religious doctrines of the Puritan settlers. During the era of our founders, the purpose of education shifted to crafting democratic citizens. During the Industrial Revolution school became more about preparing students to be future workers, punching out students on a pedagogical assembly line. Many of these early ideas persist into the 21st–century, though there is a greater diversity than ever in educational epistemology. Largely though, the perceived purpose of education in contemporary public schools is to prepare students to become future citizens who participate in the democratic process, to become skilled workers who contribute to the American work–force, and/or to help students to become critical thinkers. The purpose of schooling in the United States is and always has been political, and therefore closely intertwined with the values of Capitalism and the American economy. As a result, the prevailing philosophies of education have been reactionary and not progressive. To fully prepare students for a future we cannot foresee, education must break beyond these limited boundaries. The swift progression of technology over the past century has proven that we cannot simply teach students a set of skills to prepare them for what lies ahead. In The ... So although we were all exhausted by the end of the week, we had a great time. After seeing the smiles that seemed almost permanent that week, I realized how important it is to work with and help younger children. This is a vision of a commercialised, profit driven hospitality that is far removed from the Christian view of what it means to be hospitable. The word 'hospitality' however does not have a universal definition and therefore it is necessary to identify what this term means and what it would look like in the context of a learning community as well as in a classroom. Hospitality in its purist form can be considered the acceptance of another person in their entirety; without prejudice or judgment of their character or behaviour. As Palmer (1981) suggests, hospitality "means valuing the strangeness of the stranger......It means meeting the stranger's needs while allowing him or her to be, without attempting to make the stranger over into a modified version of ourselves" (p.). Letty M Russell also states that hospitality is "the practice of God's welcome, embodied in our actions as we reach across difference to participate with God in bringing justice and healing to our world in crisis". It is therefore an acceptance that all humans are unique and created this way by God, and as such, a perfect reflection of his image. Education is important because without it I firmly believe that society would be a very savage institution. With the things that we teach in today's schools we give the power to know the basics such as reading, writing, and math but we also give them the ability to function in a society. As a teacher I hope to set my student of fire. I want to see them come alive with a desire to want everything that is out there for them. I want to be able to make a difference in just one person's life. If I can do this I would feel I have done what I am supposed to do. I want my students to know the world is theirs to take and do with it whatever they may choose. I strongly feel that the classroom should be ruled democratically. I feel that each child should have a vote in what the rules should be, and what they in general would like to learn. I believe they should set educational goals for the class, and help determine how these goals should be achieved. I feel that by using Project–based ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Censorship And Education In Plato's Republic Plato's Republic focuses majorly on the search to find justice, but also gives a lot of attention to education and how the quality of education dictates how just a person and a society will become. Socrates spends time creating the Kallipolis in order to disprove Thrasymacus' claim that justice is the advantage of the stronger. However, through the methodology used by Socrates to educate the citizens of the Kallipolis, he supports the claim Thrasymacus makes. This form of education focuses on the youth of the city and uses censorship and persuasion to guide and teach the youth rather than reason. This tactic is essential to the success of the individual and society because censoring will allow them to grow and build the ideal character type, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 35. The Philosophy Of Education Is Its Differing Aims Around 2,300 years ago, Aristotle raised many issues regarding the opposing perspectives about the practice of education. He affirmed that there is no universal accord about whether education should be directed more towards intellectual objectives or towards the character of the individual. He also proposed that there is doubt about whether education should be aimed at notion valuable for everyday life or at notions approving to virtues. As a matter of fact, modern day educators are still deliberating the concerns Aristotle raised. Ultimately, the most primitive dilemma thephilosophy of education is its differing aims. Philosophers of education question, what are the proper aims and leading principles of education? What is the appropriate criterion for assessing academic attempts, educational institutions, procedures, and outcomes? In fact, diverse proposals to resolving these significant affairs have given rise to contrasting schools of thought in the philosophy of education. This exploratory paper will analyze and inquire three schools of thought: Essentialism, Critical Theory and Pragmatism. Each of these schools of thought considers their principles the best. The paper will conclude with my viewpoint as to where I situate my philosophy of education among these three schools of thought. The term "Essentialism" as a scholarly philosophy was formerly disseminated in the 1930s by the American educator William Chandler Bagley (Gutek, 2004, p. 264). This approach seeks to ... • 36. John Dewey's Philosophy Of Education Research Paper "Philosophy (love and wisdom) is the study of ideas about knowledge, truth, nature and the meaning of life" (Merriam–Webster's Learner's Dictionary, 2011). "The definition of education is the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life" (Dictionary.com Unabridged, 2016). Continuing, (Neill, 2005) researched that John Dewey's Philosophy of Education indicates that: "Learning was active and schooling unnecessarily long and restrictive. His idea was that children came to school to do things and live in a community which gave them real, guided experiences which fostered their capacity to contribute to society. For example, Dewey believed that students should be involved in real–life tasks and challenges." There are other educational philosophies, but in this essay, I was given the great opportunity to choose an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "A skill is the ability to do something well" (Oxford University Press, 2010). "How one appears on paper is more important than how one appears in person," (Zinsser, 1979, para.9). This statement shows how much a student's academic knowledge and exam qualifications are important to schools all around the world. Do you really think students should only focus on academics? What about jobs that require skilled workers? Since academics are mainly focused in schools, students are deprived from learning skills and carrying out tasks in order to learn. Instead, they study and pass exams without actually learning how to perform a task well. In other words, they are given more than enough information about a job. However, no practical work is being done to bring about learning. This will lead to an increased, unskilled population where the country will now have to obtain workers from other countries in order to perform certain tasks that we are unable to ... • 37. My Personal Philosophy Of Education PHILOSOPHY ESSAY 2 I remember my history teacher. He would often chat with me in German before or after class; sometimes helping explain certain nuances of the language. However, I can't tell you what information we covered that year, let alone if it was American History, or Ancient History. Can you remember anything specific from your history class in high school? My hope is that if I were to teach American History, my students would enjoy coming to class, be able to use what they learned in their own lives, in addition to remembering what was discussed during the course of the year. My philosophy of education is a well–rounded mixture of perennialism, progressivism, social reform, and essentialism. While students need the rigor of math and science, driven in part by knowing they will be tested; I do believe that it is necessary to include instruction in practical knowledge that pertains to a student's everyday life. Furthermore, I believe that kids are more willing to learn, when they know their teacher cares about them on a personal level. Knowledge is important, but the goal in raising children, or teaching other kids, is for them to become mature adults. However, it is also crucial to help students enter society with an understanding of others. This will help them to be a positive addition to a community. We need well–rounded adults in our society, and I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Essay about Statement of Educational Philosophy Statement of Educational Philosophy During my public school years, I played practically every role possible in the classroom. At one time or another, I was the most popular student, the kid everybody picked on, the genius, the dummy, the teacher's pet, and the student that the teachers wished would stay home. After playing all these different roles, I've come to the conclusion that each one is needed for a well–rounded classroom. Each has something special and significant to offer to the classroom. I think that these students should be allowed to interact and influence each other in order to broaden their overall thinking. No one's ideas should be disregarded or thought less of than anyone else's, as is common place in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Elementary and secondary education classrooms should be highly decorated with posters, charts, maps, and anything else that can be related to the material that the teacher hopes for the students to learn. Two examples would be information on former presidents or other historical figures at the secondary level and the alphabet at the elementary level. Also, at this level of public education, I think it is very important for the teacher to show a positive attitude toward the holidays and decorate bulletin boards for each one. For St. Patrick's Day, for example, there should be leprechauns and pots of gold displayed. This also gives the students a chance to show off their artistic abilities, as they draw or cut out the shapes for the bulletin boards. Some teachers probably think that this is more trouble than what it is worth, but I think it would be a real learning experience and could be used as a motivational tool as well. When it comes to discipline, I take an idealistic approach. Through the behavior mentioned above, such as considering each student's opinion and becoming a learner myself, I hope to develop a friendly relationship with the students. By developing a one–on–one relationship with each student, I hope to eliminate, or at least minimize, behavior problems. From ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Pedagogical Concepts Of Pedagogical Practices (c)An analysis of pedagogical practices which will enrich the learning opportunities of all children. Teachers use pedagogical practices so they are able to increase the complexity of a child's learning and the opportunities of all children to learn and develop in a safe and rich environment for infants and toddlers to explore. Pedagogical practices are the methods teacher's use to support children so they are able to develop new understandings, skills and increase the complexity of past skills and experiences. One pedagogical practice is to build respectful, reciprocal and caring relationships. Building these relationships can take time and when teachers are looking after a big group of children it can be hard to develop the relationships children need. The Sector Advisory Group report recommends for improving quality of early childhood education for children under three is to introduce regulated group size. In the context of improved ratios such as 1:3, 1:4, regulate for group size of three times the adult: child ratio. The Sector Advisory Group Report, Ministry of Education (2013) talk about the effects early childhood education has on children for many years with having better experiences in early childhood children have better outcomes.
