Generation X Sociology
7.) Generations are people who are born and living at a relatively similar period. Generation X is more ethically diverse than previous generations.
This generation of people were born from 1965 to the early 1980's. More importantly, this generation shares the appreciation for individuality and
acceptance of racial–ethnicity. People in this generation were raised in differentfamily structures. This generation of people work hard and tend to be
less educated. Significant events during this time period are the Berlin Wall falling, AIDS epidemic, and the Gulf War. Also, this generation of people
are known for their resilience, resourcefulness, and adaptability. The Millennial Generation is the largest cohort in recent history. This generation

Essay on Gen X
Did you know that you are considered part of the first generation symbolizing the decline of the nation? Generations are labeled all the time by
historians, novelists and journalist in an attempt to capture the spirit or essence of an era. But the term Generation X carries all the negativity of
propaganda and stereotype.
The term Generation X has become a derisive media batchphrase, a snide put–down for those 80 million people who, like me, were born between 1961
and 1981. They are the children of the baby boomers and the 13th generation since the pilgrims landed in Plymouth. This group is, were told
irresponsible, materialistic, abnormal and apathetic. So how did the term Generation X originate, what are some of their ... Show more content on

Unfortunately these are all terms and stereotypes that this generation is not. It has been said that other generations have labeled them as such because
they are seeing Generation Xers through their own eyes and haven't tried to look at it from their perspective.
How generation X perceive themselves
Generation Xers see themselves as a generation with its own voice and vision. They are said to be savvy consumers with an annual spending power
of 125 billion dollars. Most of which they spend on electronics and computer products. However they have economic problems: the starting wages of
entry level jobs are declining, housing cost are so high that 46% are still living with mom or dad. But despite their financial pressures, they are as
likely as baby boomers to think about long term savings and retirement plan.
To them sex means aids and drugs mean addition. They watched their parents climb the corporate ladder in the 80's and then when their parents
divorced, they grew up quickly and took on household responsibilities. They have learned from their parents mistakes; they are marrying later,
having kids later in life and want to spend more time with their own children. In 1992, 40% of Gen Xers were married, in 1970 67% of the same age
group of baby boomers were married.
They have been left with a 4 trillion debt and they have no faith that politicians will deal with society's ills and won't bother to protest about it because
they would rather do it

Generational Differences In Silent Generation, Baby...
Time over relationship, face–to–face over virtual social media which method is better or does each method bring added value to the workplace? Bill
Brennan's "Generational Differences" discusses the generational differences between the 4 main groups, or generations, of the United States; Silent
Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X and Generation Y. Through his depiction, Brenner discusses how shared events influence and define each
generation and that while individuals in each group are diverse; they still share certain thoughts, values and behaviors because of shared events. Each
generation should use their differences, in loyalty, work/life balance and communication, to educate each other and create a more effective workplace
environment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the Silent Generation and Boomers are characterized as being extremely loyal towards their employers, whereas Generation X & Y lack loyalty
with their employer. For instance, Brenner depicts the Silent Generation (born before 1945) as long–term employees who value loyalty and do not
question authority. Brenner states that "they tend to respect hierarchy" (p. 26). Next, Baby Boomers (born between 1946) tend to challenge authority,
want open lines of communication, results driven and competitive. Brenner states Boomers "...would like to have been long term employees" (p. 27)
Continuing on, Generation X (born between 1965 and 1980) are not overly loyal to their employer and tend to be skeptical. Brenner states, "the most
difficult to work with..." (p.27) Finally, Generation Y (born between 1980 and 1994) may value their relationship with co–workers over their
relationship with their company so are not especially loyal. Brenner states, "many Gen Yers experienced downsizing through their parents, in some
cases this has created a lack of trust". (p.

Generation X And Millennials In The Workplace
Every work environment is teeming with people from various generations. Though, the majority of people wish for a healthy work environment this is
not the easiest to come by. People from these different generations have different ways of looking at the world. They were raised differently and though
theoretically want the same things they want to reach these goals in different ways. Rising to leadership, the understanding of technology, adapting in
the workplace, and communication are the four criteria you need to know to understand how the people of Generation X and Millennials function
together in the workplace. In a work environment everybody wants to climb the totem pole. For Millennials, they want to rise to leadership without
working too hard for it. They are trying to reach the leadership positions as fast as they can and at times they are unprepared for the position they
enter because they have not experienced enough along the way. Where Millennials are too fast to rise to leadership, people considered to be
Generation X, who are known for their hard work ethic and experience are often complacent in the workplace. Though they gained their experience
(unlike Millennials) by working their way up the chain of command and gradually paying their dues and though they also do not expect to be handed a
higher position, like Millennials who feel entitled to higher positions in the workplace, they are also not as motivated as Millennials. (Bresman) To

The Stereotypes Of Generation X And The Vietnam War
The United States of America, winner of two World Wars, home of some of the world's biggest and most attractive cities, and a place where
families from all over the globe strive to live in, but are we still the America that had the intestinal fortitude to do whatever it takes to win a War?
The generation gaps are obvious, which the scapegoat argument to describe many of the actions older generations see as unfit being " millennials
are the problem," but in order to get to the true root of the problem you have to have an unbiased opinion I believe. I'm going to focus on the
differences between the Generations X and Y for this paper, because the audience for this is more than likely apart of one of those two. A member of
Generation X, although there is no definitive evidence of an exact date, was most likely born between the years of 1965 and 1984. Prior to us
beginning to understand some of the stereotypes that are used in reference to Generation X, we must first know some of the events that took place that
helped shaped this generation. One of the most significant events that took a toll on the American people during this time period is the Vietnam War.
Many American people were at first supportive of the United States entering the war in Vietnam, however once it became visible that this wouldn't be
an "in and out" operation the views quickly began to turn. In prior wars, battles were fought against a uniformed enemy that was easily identifiable,
however the war in

Generation X: The Role Of Diversity In The Workplace
The 51 million members of Generation X, born between 1965 and 1976, grew up in a very different world than previous generations. Divorce and
working moms created "latchkey" kids out of many in this generation. This led to traits of independence, resilience and adaptability. Generation X feels
strongly that "I don't need someone looking over my shoulder."
At the same time, this generation expects immediate and ongoing feedback, and is equally comfortable giving feedback to others. Other traits include
working well in multicultural settings, desire for some fun in the workplace and a pragmatic approach to getting things done.
Generation X saw their parents get laid off or face job insecurity. Many of them also entered the workplace in the early '80s, when the economy was in
a downturn. Because of these factors, they've redefined loyalty. Instead of remaining loyal to their company, they have a commitment to their work, to
the team they work with, and the boss they work for. For example, a Baby Boomer complains about his dissatisfaction with management, but figures its
part of the job. A Gen Xer doesn't waste time... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An effective mentoring relationship with them must be as hands–off as possible. Providing feedback on their performance should play a big part, as
should encouraging their creativity and initiative to find new ways to get tasks done. As a mentor, you'll want Gen Xers to work with you, not for
you. Start by informing them of your expectations and how you'll measure their progress and assure them that you're committed to helping them learn
new skills. (Members of Generation X are eager to learn new skills because they want to stay employable.) Gen Xers work best when they're given the
desired outcome and then turned loose to figure out how to achieve it. This means a mentor should guide them with feedback and suggestions, not

Tic Tac And The Tac
Tic Tac is one of the leading producers of breath mints in the country. It is owned by one of the largest companies, Ferrero Group. Ferrero Group has
over 36 companies, 15 factories and almost 20,000 employees working for them around the world. The products from the Tic Tac product line are sold
all over the globe particularly in Europe, Australia, South America, and the USA.Tic Tachas experienced great appreciation and sales for it product
called "Tic Tac Chill" mints.
The Chill mints have a new and unique design and mints were larger in size themselves than regular Tic Tac mints. Additionally, Tic Tac uses natural
sweetener attracting more diet–conscious and diabetic customers. This new product has a versatile design that has flip–top packaging unlike the other
products. At the same time, it keeps the originality of Tic Tac mints while retaining the classic packaging and product image.
With the adoption of new flavors and packaging, we need to weigh both the benefits and the risks associated with changing the product's packaging.
Lets begin with laying out the risks associated with the change in packaging. The excerpt tells us that the market for Tic Tacbreath mints has increased
ever since 1969. This indicates that the breath mints are not a new–to–the–world product. Customers have seen this product before, in fact, breath mints
are a convenience product for many consumers. Breath mints are in there maturity stage in the product life cycle. In this stage new users

Generation–X
When most people hear the label Generation –X they think of a hopeless generation of youth that have given into the pressures of the world. I would
like you to think of the X as the Greek symbol for "Chi" which is used as a symbol for Christ. In this decade the youth involved in the Christianity has
grown significantly. Youth are responding to the church in ways that the pastgeneration did not. Where mom and dad embraced the tumultuous sixties
their children have taken hold of Christianity. The youth organizations that promote the Protestant doctrine have seen the youthmembership grow by
50% since 1990. Catholic Churches have witnessed their youth involvement double in the last decade. The youth are coming from all ... Show more

Why are the youth being drawn in great numbers to the Christian faith? Could it be the sense of belonging that they are after? Has the culture that
they have grown up in made it important to belong to a group? What makes the youth of the nineties different from their predecessors? It's not like all
of these kids come from disadvantaged or broken homes. Many of them are well–adjusted middle–class kids that don't need to be attached to
something out side of themselves to be validated or excepted. The one thing that they all seem to have in common is that they have been raised in a
much more complex social atmosphere than past youngsters. They have spent more time in front of a television than any other generation. They have
been labeled a generation without a cause. Their energy has been sapped by endless hours of Nintendo and the constant race to stay on the cutting
edge of fashion. They become consumers at younger ages too and that brings on the pressure to have the best, and have it first. Kids find themselves
making one purchase after another and never coming away with anything that will last. The life that Hollywood romanices and glorifies leaves them
feeling hollow and unfulfilled. The youth today are experiencing burn out at a very young age. Suicide

Douglas Coupland Generation X
Generation X by Douglas Coupland reveals the struggles of the post–baby boomer generation in asserting themselves as conventionally successful
members of society. Written and set in Palm Springs, California, the book tells the tale of three close friends who, falling into the group of people born
after the post–war baby–boom, have left behind their old lives and moved to Palm Springs in search of a cleaner, less materialistic existence.
Originally meant to be a non–fiction handbook for the generation born after the baby boom, Coupland's final fictitious work had an increasingly
profound effect worldwide after being published in 1991. Influenced by his own life among other things, Generation X discusses the plights faced by

Through stories told by the different characters through fragmented narrative, Generation X opens the world's eyes to the struggles of "overeducated
and underemployed" twentysomethings. His vivid diction is a large part of the excellent word quality. Compelling issues that Gen X kids are "tired"
of, most noticeably consumerism and materialism (a chapter in the book is titled "I Am Not a Target Market"), are discussed with informal but
thoughtful language. The author's own neologisms, or newly coined words or expressions, can be seen in the margins of the pages. This inventive
component is eye–opening and helps the reader understand and enjoy the book better. In one case, the definition of a "Mid–twenties Breakdown" is
given after the narrator notes that one of his friends has already had his: "A period of mental collapse occurring in one's twenties, often caused by an
inability to function outside of school or structured environments coupled with a realisation of one's essential aloneness in the world. Often marks
induction into the ritual of pharmaceutical usage. Another creative aspect of this book is the inclusion of cartoons to better illustrate a point. For
example, the most well–known drawing from this book is of a woman saying, "Don't worry, mother... If the marriage doesn't work out, we can always
get divorced." These interesting traits make Generation X a more

The And Of The Generation X Children
The interviews provided general consensus that Millennials were not giving regularly, proportionately, or generously. Stein and Evans have Millennial
children. Youngberg had Generation X children. Most had some teaching exposure with Millennials as teachers, designers, and home life as parents.
Between the four previous teachers and designers of the curriculum, there was a unique mix of a certified public accountant, engineer, master's in
business administration, pastor, and an average guy. The ability of those members of the teaching team and the design phase to handle most questions
and provide a balanced approach was the genius of the group. Both Evans and Youngberg expressed frustration that Millennials need to step up more

Youngberg stated that lifestyles that compete with the Lord's priorities, that they did not get training in home, and lack of biblical moral and ethical
reasoning were why Millennials do not understand and apply biblical stewardship. Evans also mentioned that Millennials have a distorted view of
wealth, do not understand stewardship, and do not see stewardship modeled by their parents or others in society. Hackathorn stated that a lack of
resources including discretionary income, time constraints to start career and establish a family competes with their time availability and resources.
The final one was an inward focus on meeting their needs. There was also one other observation that none of the design members mentioned, the
age of the church has provided a large number of families that are at least two generations deep if not three or four that all attend the same church.
The totals would seem large at first but when averages and medians are considered it is much smaller and disproportionate. There were 127 younger
Millennial donors, and there were 241 older Millennial donors. The average therefore for younger Millennials is $1,234. The average for older
Millennials is $2,529. The median giving patterns are even more telling of the top–heavy giving patterns. If averages are used for reverse tithe amount,
that would mean that young Millennials are making

Generation X : The Generation Of The Generation
Who is apart of this "Generation X" group? Typically, people who were born in the years of 1965–1980. People who were born in those times had a
hard life. They grew up during the Aids breakout, the fall of the Berlin Wall, Watergate and the end of the Cold War. This lead to them being
Suspicious and cynical. People of this generation usually don't trust too many people. You are considered being apart of the "Millennials" generation
if you were born in the years of 1981–2000. People of this generation are typically spoiled and brattish. We grew up during the War on Terrorism, 9
/11, school shootings, and the introduction to social media. We are more friendly and inviting compared to the past generations. We are quicker to
accept people into our groups/cliques. For as core values, the "Gen Xer's" are more independent than our generation. Our generation is more dependent
on our parents for everything. For example, my mom had to work during high school just to pay for college, because her parents weren't able to afford
the cost of college. That shows how she worked for what she wanted, knowing that she didn't have the support of her parents to depend on. But for
me I look for my mother and step dad to pay my tuition every semester. Another thing that is different about our generation from anyone else is our
responsibility with money. We as young adults have a problem with spending as soon as we get. Most definitely me, I am terrible at this. Last

The Generation X And Generation Y
In this study, the most interesting insight I read that the article distinguishes two generations, generation X and generation Y, they have varied on
expectation of life. Additionally, the employer should realize to diversities of employee personality in the organization, which might contribute to
making a conflict in teamwork such as having the different attitude, not understanding in other characteristics, confident of subconscious and so on. The
generation X, who is composed of the parent of generation Y (born between 1965 and 1981), this generation has an optimistic aspect, and also prefer
having life balances with working hard. In contrast, the generation Y (born between 1982 and 2000), the generation Y (born between 1982 and 2000),
who grew up with enslavement by technology and have more independent (Susaeta et al. 2013). So, I have comprehended the key which might helpful
to make deduction of working in the future.
However, I think the personal behavior depends on education developmental, nation cultural and the environment where is they grew up, especially the
influence of family affects to new generation thinking. As can be seen in the study of the authors of attitude to work shows that the means for attitudes
to work both for individuals in generation X and Y are slightly different, it might because of the nation cultural. For example , Thai cultural is always

Generational Differences: Generation X and Generation Y
The hottest topic of conversation is between two generations is superiority. The Generation X argues that Generation Y is getting everything in their
plate without having to work for it. The millenials counter that by saying that technological know how is the need of the day and nobody survives
bereft of that. This is what the older generations lacks and finds it difficult to cope with the times. Hence the millenials consider themselves better. But
is this argument really valid? Are the criteria used equally applicable? After the interview with my friend and my uncle, I decided that my friend has a
better opinion about the generational differences. Generation Y– also "called Millennials" refers to people born approximately between the 1980's
–2000. The striking behavior patterns we see among them are one being "group oriented". They are more comfortable acting in groups. Facebook is
just one of many examples, which being an integral part of their lives. Typically they have also been more subjected to group activities since childhood,
often parents or teachers engaging them in–group activities. Parents and the current teaching system are responsible for their obsession with group
activities. They are also highly optimistic about everything, and positive in their outlook. Though we know that they are also vulnerable to stress. They
are really passionate about everything they do, regardless of the outcome. They like to participate in activities like fighting for a cause,

Jessica Romoff's Poem For The X Generation
The X generation is the life we are all living currently. Our generation is all about embracing social change and pointing out social injustice. Popular
protests and movements are being promoted such as the Black lives matter movement which is the third most used hashtag on twitter and the feminist
movement. Recently on January 27, 2017 at a women's march rally Jessica Romoff performed a poem which captured the characteristics of the X
Generation. Jessica Romoff's poem for the 2017 women's march depicts the characteristics of today's generation addressing direct problems of
women's rights, promoting a change through her comparisons and use of allusions and letting her audience know the real power of a women. Jessica's

surrounded by fairy tales of the men being the hero, which teaches teaches these girls they need to reply on men to succeed. From a young age these
girls are being taught these things in quixotic and unrealistic stories which creates this stereotype of the woman being weaker than the man. The X
generation is all about breaking those stereotypes and proving them to be wrong which is what this country is capable of if everyone teaches our
daughters. The parallelism of all the stories Romoff lists also helps to widen the idea that all these stories are incredibly similar and hold the same
negative tones. Rather than telling a person young girl stories of girls being saved, tell the story of women being the savior. Rather than flooding young
girls brains with monotonous stories of women who are the victims, flood them with stories of empowered women, strong and independant women.

What Was The Difference Between Generation X And...
The exchanging of this information can be portrayed in many ways. Some examples would be speaking, signing, and even writing. A large problem
we have today would be the differences in generations when speaking to one another. With each generation being up to thirty years apart, they will
each have a different set of core values that they will have learned to follow throughout their lifetime. With the problem at hand, we are stuck figuring
out for ourselves if the older generations should have to keep up with the new language or if younger generations should stop changing the old
language. A way to solve this would be for both generations to make a compromise so that everyone can be happy.
Communication across generations can be very tough. A reason for this could be the different values and scenery that eachgeneration grew up in. A
difference between the two most recent generations would be the rapid increase in technology. The majority of the Millennials were born when
technology was being created and did not receive too many beneficial uses for it. Comparing the use of technology to Generation X and Traditionalists
is a whole different story. Traditionalists grew up with the Great Depression and World War II looming over their heads. The technology was not even
an option for them. For them to see us on our phones daily and using the internet for almost everything is very hard for them to understand.
Traditionalists were more worried about making their money last and

The Baby Boomers rarely complain about their work load or other members of staff.
Baby boomers tend to be more diligent on the job and prefer a more stable working environment (Loomis, 2000). The Baby boomers tend to work
hard and are generally loyal to their employer. Baby boomers are willing and expecting to work with others. In term of leadership style, Baby boomers
accept the chain of command. In addition, they expect their managers to give direction and to lead them towards organizational goals. They prefer
teamwork directed by leaders in positional authority, and a task–oriented leadership style. Baby boomers are however, not highly technologically savvy,
nor do they generally like change ( Raths, 1999).
1.2 Generation X
Born between 1965 and 1980, Generation X has strong ties to the Baby Boomers, but grew up in more prosperous times. As children, this generation
was busy playing outside with their friends – home was a place for dinner and sleep. They share a sense of respect and duty similar to their older
counterparts, and also prefer to keep home and work separate. However, they are more comfortable using technology even though their lack of
formative education in IT means that most are self–taught or have developed their skills in the workplace. They had a colour TV at home, and
probably more than one. They can be known as, "techno–immigrants‟. When researching projects and ideas, they dig deep and are thorough in

Generation X, children born between 1965 and 1976, the first generation of children defined as 'latchkey' (oxford, marketing 4th edition). Living in an
era of "dual–income" families, Gen X children were often left alone, and thus developed a sense of independence, and resourcefulness. Unlike Baby

Generation X's purchasing behaviour is that of brand loyalty and indifference between premium brands and non–premium brands. Generation X stay
loyal to brands if the quality of the product is consistent and if the price of the product remains relatively affordable. Generation X will stay loyal if
the product is affordable and of significant quality. Generation X is extremely cautious when buying products, and researching a product is a must
before any purchase decision is made. As such, it is obvious that most Gen X are concerned more with informative advertising, visually appealing

Career Development in Generation X Essay
Career Development in Generation X
Generation X refers to the population cohort following the Baby Boomers. Sources differ as to the exact years during which this cohort was born.
Coupland (1991) suggests 1960 to 1970; Bradford and Raines (1992) propose 1965 to 1975; and Howe and Strauss (1993) suggest 1961 to 1981.
Whatever the birth years, it is their common life experiences that give this cohort an identity. Individuals born in Generation X are reputedly more
global, technologically oriented, and culturally diverse than the generations before them. Coming of age when the linear career path no longer exists,

The twenty somethings of Generation X who are currently in the work force entered the labor market with no expectations. Many of them believe the
best years (in terms of society) are behind them (Howe and Strauss 1993). They have been told that they are the "only generation since the Civil War
to come of age unlikely to match their parents' economic fortunes" (ibid., p. 7). They place little faith in job security. "They saw their parents laid
off without cause and their perceptions of the working world were shaped in time of economic turmoil. Consequently, they tend to see every job
they take as temporary and every company as a stepping stone to something better, or at least to something else" (Filipczak 1994, p. 23). Since they
have adopted the philosophy that there are "no guarantees," they are not interested in working their way up. They want to be valued immediately
for their skills (Bradford and Raines 1992). They see their career strength in their ability to solve problems and do jobs that others are not able to do.
"They believe that security nowadays comes from the transferability of one's skills to other jobs rather than from advancement in hierarchically
managed organizations" (Wilkinson 1995, p. 67). They use job hopping as a way to build their skills and make themselves more marketable (Filipczak
1994, p. 27).

The Traditionals, Baby Boomers, Generation X And Generation Y
Introduction In today's workforce, it is very common to have coworkers in multiple generations. The four generations that are currently in the
workforce are the Traditionals, Baby Boomers, Generation X and Generation Y. Currently, the Baby Boomers and Generation Y make up the majority
of employees in the workforce. There is great diversity between the generations in terms of what motivates them to perform well at work, attitudes
about work, causes of conflict in the workplace, and communication in the workplace. Another aspect of the generations that has great diversity is the
way in which they learn in the workplace. Because of this, employers have to provide training and development opportunities that cater to each
generation. Baby... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of this study is to examine the differences in effectiveness of different training methods between older generations, primarily the baby
boomer generation, and younger generations, primarily Generation Y, or the Millennial Generation. In examining the differences, the success of the
training and retention of information between the generations will be looked at. Research shows that older generations prefer traditional, classroom
training, while the millennial generation prefers self–paced, on–demand, training, such as Skillport.com, which offers learning modules that can be
accessed online at any time. In regards to learning predilections, Generation Yers have used computers and other technologies from the at least the age
of three. As a result, traditional classroom lecturing and traditional training manuals are not very effective on the Millennial generation(Gleason,
Heaney, 2008). In researching the training methods between the generations, the findings may lead to information that will aid organizations in
providing the most effective training for their employees. Some current research states that employers should tailor the training to each generation.
Tolbize, (2008) states that some training methods are preferred over others, based on generational predilections. An example of this is the face that,
younger workers do not prefer learning 'soft skills', which are topics that deal with personality, team work, and anything

Essay about New Learning Strategies for Generation X
New Learning Strategies for Generation X
Generation X workers resent the labels that have been used to describe them: slackers, arrogant, disloyal, having short attention spans. In fact, these
descriptions are less likely to reflect the behaviors of individuals in Generation X than the perceptions of managers who are not attuned to new ways of
learning. This Digest investigates ways in which the learning characteristics of the young adults classified as Generation X reflect the need for the new
teaching and learning strategies promoted by cognitive scientists, such as learning in context, cooperative learning, and real–world application of
knowledge.

Ways of Learning
Life experiences shape the way people learn. The following characteristics, which have been attributed to Generation Xers, offer insight into new ways
of learning and highlight the need for new approaches to teaching:
Having grown up with both parents working/furthering their education, Xers are used to getting things done on their own. Hence, they tend to be
independent problem solvers and self–starters. They want support and feedback, but they don't want to be controlled.
Because many of them grew up with computers, Generation Xers are technologically literate. They are familiar with computer technology and prefer
the quick access of Internet, CD–ROMs, and the World Wide Web as their sources for locating information.
Conditioned to expect immediate gratification, Generation Xers are responsive. They crave stimulation and expect immediate answers and feedback.
Skeptical of society and its institutions, Generation Xers are focused. As learners, they don't want to waste time doing quantities of school work; they
want their work to be meaningful to them. "They want to know why they must learn something before they take time to learn how" (Caudron 1997, p.
22).

Characteristics Of Generation X
Generation X Generation X also known as the baby bust generation is categorized for individual who were born from 1961–1979 (Dwyer, 2009).
According to Foot and Stoffman (1998, p. 26), generation X is not a separate generation, but rather the concluding stages of the baby boom generation
(as cited by Dwyer, 2009). Generation X was pushed toward adulthood at an age earlier than any other recent generation as they suffered the backlash
from the world's focus on Baby Boomers and their worldview was negatively shaped as a result (Teaching Across Generations, 2004). The Generation

to be motivated to learn new skills only if they see the value and relevance in education. They prefer experiential learning using as many of the five

Generational Differences in the Classroom
Most people have a learning style that mirrors how they were taught when they were younger. It should be noted that there is not a one size fits all
method when it comes to learning. The key to being able to appeal to each of the different generations is to offer diversity in teaching styles in order
to satisfy the different preferences. As of now, there are four generations that are in the workforce and those four generations are: The SilentGeneration,
Baby Boomers, Generation X, and the Millennials. This paper will examine the characteristics of these four generations, how their learning styles differ,

It is important for these adult students to have time to understand concepts that involve the use of technology. The next generation to be examined is
the Baby Boomers, the Baby Boomers were born in the early 1940's to early 1960's. This generation occupies a lot of top executive roles in the
workforce and are not retiring as they were expected to (Levonius, 2015). The Baby Boomers were taught to grow up questioning authority and
standing up for themselves when they needed to. Around the time this generation was in school there was a grade inflation in the educational system,
and the Boomer's strived to achieve these high–grade marks. Baby Boomers were taught in a linear fashion, they were taught by lecture, and the
technology they had included overhead projectors and some videos (Warren, 2012). Since this generation was accustomed to trying to achieve high
grades they became achievement oriented adults. Education was quite a bit different from earlier generations in this era (Olson, 2011). There was
more emphasis placed on students to finish high school, and for the first time in history more students were attending college. "From both the size of
the generation as well as their impact to society, Baby Boomers have strong sense of self and a desire for involvement in their world, particularly at
work" (Olson, 2011). "They have a strong work ethic, and a desire to receive rewards

Baby Boomers, Generation X, And Generation Y
For the last 50 years, there have been three generations in a work place. Baby boomers, Generation X, and Generation Y. Each of these three
generations bring significant influences to the work place especially to organizational leaders. First generation are the Baby Boomers. According
to the video (2008), baby boomers are those born from 1846 to 1964. Boomers tend to work their way up positions at their work place. This causes
baby boomers to keep their jobs for life; resulting in working longer while retiring later. Next is the Generation X, born from 1965 to 1980.
Generation X are loyal to their work, stay working at the same job for years, they get promoted within the same company. Causing them to work for

The Music of Generation X
The Music of Generation X
Since the beginning of time the human beings have adored the soothing sounds of music. Music has affected the way people have behaved and dressed
throughout different periods of time. Different groups have been formed based upon their preference in music. Take for an example in the music of my
generation, Generation X, there are several different groups oriented by music.
In Generation X punks, gangs, alternative people, ravers, hippies, and pop rockers have all been labeled into groups by their preference of music.
Music has also affected people mentally, causing problems in society like suicide, depression, hate/racism, violence, and drug addiction. I am about to

The last song was just released last Wednesday. "Hope in a Hopeless
World," by Widespread Panic is a song that geniunely conveys the problems in today 's society. The title itself explains the behaviors of depression
and loss of reality. The song looks at the downfalls in our society and how things went wrong. The line, "What ever happened to the Golden Rule?"
says enough to explain my thoughts. The Golden Rule in my opinion is a major norm in our society, and with that out of the way everything is
really unfriendly and depressing. "Looking for hope in a hopeless world" explains that people are trying to come out and have a life, but there are so
many drawbacks that they are often stuck. The song also says that you have to keep trying:
You 've got to listen to the voice inside Peace and love don 't compromise Time is passing by Can 't be standing still.
Music in Generation X has had more affect on society than any other generation has had. More social groups have been formed and many more
feelings have been expressed through our music. Society is overall effected by music and always will be.

Comparison Of Gen X And Y Generation
Generations As I grew up I realized that my life is very different from the life that my parents and my grandparents lived and probably will be
different from the life my children will live. Some people say that every generation is different from each other. Throughout history many generation
have been named after something that it's said to describe them in every way, Tim Urban called the generation I live in the Generation Y or GYPSY's.
The generation my parents lived in was called Generation X or Baby Boomers. The Gen X and Y are very different in some aspects while in other
they are very similar. For many people the normal "five milestones of adulthood are completing school, leaving home, becoming financially
independent, marring and having a child" (Henig) in that order, but the people in generation Y have a different way of viewing those milestones.
People in the Y generation stopped marring early and having babies and became more focused on their careers, while others choose to leave school
for work, some never have children or are unable to, some never leave home or return home after some time and some never achieve all the five
milestones. During my parents' generation in Brazil "it was normal for people to return to their parents' house" (Fischer) and stay there until they get
married or start a new family, different from generation Y the education was very important so not many people left school. Most people in the Baby
boomers generation kept the same job and

In the workplace, leadership tactics can alter the entire organizational balance as it related to power and politics. Many employees in an organization
lean to negative political tactics rather than positive. Emotional intelligence plays a vital role in relationships within an organization and its importance.
Emotional Intelligence involves a number of skills relevant to the understanding of others and as well as one's personal emotions. After completing the
emotional intelligence quiz, my score resulted in a level of high emotional intelligence. As a result, the leader of the school is skilled at interpreting,
understanding, and acting upon emotions. This person is adept at dealing with social or emotional conflicts, expressing their feelings, and dealing with
emotional situations. (Cherry, K. 2016). By placing less emphasize on self–serving behavior created a stronger team. (DuBrin, 2009).
Performing a power analysis on this situation will lead to applying strategies and tactics in relationship to power. This analysis assists in identifying the
power and influence of those in the organization. (DuBrin, 2009). This is achieved by answering questions such as hierarchy of authority, what drives

Work Motivation Essay
An organization is a common platform where individuals from different backgrounds come together and work as a collective unit to achieve certain
objectives and targets. An organization consists of individuals with different specializations, educational qualifications and work experiences all
working towards a common goal. Just like how every employee have different specializations, educational qualifications and work experiences, the
employees also differ in generations called Gen X(people born in 1965–1981), Gen Y (people born in 1982–2000) and Baby boomers(people born in
1946–1964). All these employees need work motivation in some way or the other to perform at work place and produce desired results.
In the due course of time there are many changes in the organizations that are taking place. Organizational changes happen due to leadership, technical
changes and also due to multiple generations working under a single roof. By these generations working under a single roof there are many
contradictions and differences right from the value systems to how each generations see the work. So motivating each generation to achieve their goal
is a huge task even for the leading managers.
Work motivation is described as the psychological processes that direct, energize, and maintain action toward a job, task, role, or project (Campbell &
Pritchard, 1976; Kanfer, 1990). Work motivation "is a set of energetic forces that originate both within as well as beyond an individual 's being,

BABY BOOMERS were born during 1946–1964 and are in the 48–65 age range. Health, energy and wellness are major goals for them. Family values

Generation X : The Generation's Effect On The Young...
Those on the younger end of the Generation Z spectrum, also called Generation X, spend their time outside of the classroom differently than one
may think. Upon first thought, children who are currently in elementary school appear to be technology obsessed and crave a device at all times.
When having the opportunity to sit down and ask these younger students about what they do in their free time, opinions can change to the opposite
of what they once were. Generation X and Millennials perceptions tend to be stereotypical of the generation as a whole, rather than realizing that
there are differences between each age group in a generation. Older Generation Z's viewpoints show that they believe technology only affects the
younger population negatively. Aged Generation X members think younger people are so preoccupied with technology that the idea of playing
outside and hanging around friends face to face becomes foreign; when really, it could not be more opposite. There is a split in the way Generation Z
uses their free time, whereas the older half is more technology consumed, leaving the younger members hungering to live in the present. Initially, older
portions of Generation X's social life do not look necessarily "social" compared to their junior counterparts. Images of video chat, text screens, and
social media direct messaging come to mind when thinking about teenagers in this day and age. "Hanging out with friends" is now just a group of

A Short Note On Generation X And The Workplace Essay
Millennials and Generation X in the Workplace
Have you noticed the faces in your workplace getting younger before your eyes? You are not just imagining it! If the statistics being released on US
demographics are accurate, millennials are slated to be the largest generation yet. This means that they will also make up the largest chunk of the labor
pool for many years to come. Millennials, along with the smaller but significant Generation X, are replacing retiring baby boomers at an increasing
pace. With this reality, it is obvious that businesses gain by learning what these younger generations want, and how they can tailor the work
environment to address these desires.
Getting over the Stereotypes
To unlock the great potential contained within these younger generations, employers need to discard the stereotypes projected by the sensationalist
media. This is not to say that these groups cannot be thought of in general terms. The environment that each group was born into and the opportunities
offered to them work together to create a common history which can be a very powerful force in shaping the needs and desires of these generations.
However, it would be a mistake to only rely on mainstream media depictions of these generations.
The stereotypes the media reports tend to focus on negative qualities, creating a skewed perception of the ethics and values of these groups. Generation
X was initially described as unfocused, apathetic, and sarcastic, while the millennials were

2.Looking out three to five years, does total reliance on independent dealers continue to make sense? Why or why not? With the shift in the end
customers demographics, it would be wise for Stihl to consider alternative strategies to supplement their current reliance on independent specialty
dealers. A company must always address who the end customer is, when you forget or choose to ignore who the customer is, then you tend to not be

Generation X Sociology

  • 1. Generation X Sociology 7.) Generations are people who are born and living at a relatively similar period. Generation X is more ethically diverse than previous generations. This generation of people were born from 1965 to the early 1980's. More importantly, this generation shares the appreciation for individuality and acceptance of racial–ethnicity. People in this generation were raised in differentfamily structures. This generation of people work hard and tend to be less educated. Significant events during this time period are the Berlin Wall falling, AIDS epidemic, and the Gulf War. Also, this generation of people are known for their resilience, resourcefulness, and adaptability. The Millennial Generation is the largest cohort in recent history. This generation ... • 2. Essay on Gen X Did you know that you are considered part of the first generation symbolizing the decline of the nation? Generations are labeled all the time by historians, novelists and journalist in an attempt to capture the spirit or essence of an era. But the term Generation X carries all the negativity of propaganda and stereotype. The term Generation X has become a derisive media batchphrase, a snide put–down for those 80 million people who, like me, were born between 1961 and 1981. They are the children of the baby boomers and the 13th generation since the pilgrims landed in Plymouth. This group is, were told irresponsible, materialistic, abnormal and apathetic. So how did the term Generation X originate, what are some of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately these are all terms and stereotypes that this generation is not. It has been said that other generations have labeled them as such because they are seeing Generation Xers through their own eyes and haven't tried to look at it from their perspective. How generation X perceive themselves Generation Xers see themselves as a generation with its own voice and vision. They are said to be savvy consumers with an annual spending power of 125 billion dollars. Most of which they spend on electronics and computer products. However they have economic problems: the starting wages of entry level jobs are declining, housing cost are so high that 46% are still living with mom or dad. But despite their financial pressures, they are as likely as baby boomers to think about long term savings and retirement plan. To them sex means aids and drugs mean addition. They watched their parents climb the corporate ladder in the 80's and then when their parents divorced, they grew up quickly and took on household responsibilities. They have learned from their parents mistakes; they are marrying later, having kids later in life and want to spend more time with their own children. In 1992, 40% of Gen Xers were married, in 1970 67% of the same age group of baby boomers were married. They have been left with a 4 trillion debt and they have no faith that politicians will deal with society's ills and won't bother to protest about it because they would rather do it

  • 4. Generational Differences In Silent Generation, Baby... Time over relationship, face–to–face over virtual social media which method is better or does each method bring added value to the workplace? Bill Brennan's "Generational Differences" discusses the generational differences between the 4 main groups, or generations, of the United States; Silent Generation, Baby Boomers, Generation X and Generation Y. Through his depiction, Brenner discusses how shared events influence and define each generation and that while individuals in each group are diverse; they still share certain thoughts, values and behaviors because of shared events. Each generation should use their differences, in loyalty, work/life balance and communication, to educate each other and create a more effective workplace environment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the Silent Generation and Boomers are characterized as being extremely loyal towards their employers, whereas Generation X & Y lack loyalty with their employer. For instance, Brenner depicts the Silent Generation (born before 1945) as long–term employees who value loyalty and do not question authority. Brenner states that "they tend to respect hierarchy" (p. 26). Next, Baby Boomers (born between 1946) tend to challenge authority, want open lines of communication, results driven and competitive. Brenner states Boomers "...would like to have been long term employees" (p. 27) Continuing on, Generation X (born between 1965 and 1980) are not overly loyal to their employer and tend to be skeptical. Brenner states, "the most difficult to work with..." (p.27) Finally, Generation Y (born between 1980 and 1994) may value their relationship with co–workers over their relationship with their company so are not especially loyal. Brenner states, "many Gen Yers experienced downsizing through their parents, in some cases this has created a lack of trust". (p. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Generation X And Millennials In The Workplace Every work environment is teeming with people from various generations. Though, the majority of people wish for a healthy work environment this is not the easiest to come by. People from these different generations have different ways of looking at the world. They were raised differently and though theoretically want the same things they want to reach these goals in different ways. Rising to leadership, the understanding of technology, adapting in the workplace, and communication are the four criteria you need to know to understand how the people of Generation X and Millennials function together in the workplace. In a work environment everybody wants to climb the totem pole. For Millennials, they want to rise to leadership without working too hard for it. They are trying to reach the leadership positions as fast as they can and at times they are unprepared for the position they enter because they have not experienced enough along the way. Where Millennials are too fast to rise to leadership, people considered to be Generation X, who are known for their hard work ethic and experience are often complacent in the workplace. Though they gained their experience (unlike Millennials) by working their way up the chain of command and gradually paying their dues and though they also do not expect to be handed a higher position, like Millennials who feel entitled to higher positions in the workplace, they are also not as motivated as Millennials. (Bresman) To Millennials, growing up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Stereotypes Of Generation X And The Vietnam War The United States of America, winner of two World Wars, home of some of the world's biggest and most attractive cities, and a place where families from all over the globe strive to live in, but are we still the America that had the intestinal fortitude to do whatever it takes to win a War? The generation gaps are obvious, which the scapegoat argument to describe many of the actions older generations see as unfit being " millennials are the problem," but in order to get to the true root of the problem you have to have an unbiased opinion I believe. I'm going to focus on the differences between the Generations X and Y for this paper, because the audience for this is more than likely apart of one of those two. A member of Generation X, although there is no definitive evidence of an exact date, was most likely born between the years of 1965 and 1984. Prior to us beginning to understand some of the stereotypes that are used in reference to Generation X, we must first know some of the events that took place that helped shaped this generation. One of the most significant events that took a toll on the American people during this time period is the Vietnam War. Many American people were at first supportive of the United States entering the war in Vietnam, however once it became visible that this wouldn't be an "in and out" operation the views quickly began to turn. In prior wars, battles were fought against a uniformed enemy that was easily identifiable, however the war in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Generation X: The Role Of Diversity In The Workplace The 51 million members of Generation X, born between 1965 and 1976, grew up in a very different world than previous generations. Divorce and working moms created "latchkey" kids out of many in this generation. This led to traits of independence, resilience and adaptability. Generation X feels strongly that "I don't need someone looking over my shoulder." At the same time, this generation expects immediate and ongoing feedback, and is equally comfortable giving feedback to others. Other traits include working well in multicultural settings, desire for some fun in the workplace and a pragmatic approach to getting things done. Generation X saw their parents get laid off or face job insecurity. Many of them also entered the workplace in the early '80s, when the economy was in a downturn. Because of these factors, they've redefined loyalty. Instead of remaining loyal to their company, they have a commitment to their work, to the team they work with, and the boss they work for. For example, a Baby Boomer complains about his dissatisfaction with management, but figures its part of the job. A Gen Xer doesn't waste time... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An effective mentoring relationship with them must be as hands–off as possible. Providing feedback on their performance should play a big part, as should encouraging their creativity and initiative to find new ways to get tasks done. As a mentor, you'll want Gen Xers to work with you, not for you. Start by informing them of your expectations and how you'll measure their progress and assure them that you're committed to helping them learn new skills. (Members of Generation X are eager to learn new skills because they want to stay employable.) Gen Xers work best when they're given the desired outcome and then turned loose to figure out how to achieve it. This means a mentor should guide them with feedback and suggestions, not step–by–step ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ferrero Group has over 36 companies, 15 factories and almost 20,000 employees working for them around the world. The products from the Tic Tac product line are sold all over the globe particularly in Europe, Australia, South America, and the USA.Tic Tachas experienced great appreciation and sales for it product called "Tic Tac Chill" mints. The Chill mints have a new and unique design and mints were larger in size themselves than regular Tic Tac mints. Additionally, Tic Tac uses natural sweetener attracting more diet–conscious and diabetic customers. This new product has a versatile design that has flip–top packaging unlike the other products. The excerpt tells us that the market for Tic Tacbreath mints has increased ever since 1969. This indicates that the breath mints are not a new–to–the–world product. Customers have seen this product before, in fact, breath mints are a convenience product for many consumers. • 9. Generation-X Essay Generation–X When most people hear the label Generation –X they think of a hopeless generation of youth that have given into the pressures of the world. I would like you to think of the X as the Greek symbol for "Chi" which is used as a symbol for Christ. In this decade the youth involved in the Christianity has grown significantly. Youth are responding to the church in ways that the pastgeneration did not. Where mom and dad embraced the tumultuous sixties their children have taken hold of Christianity. The youth organizations that promote the Protestant doctrine have seen the youthmembership grow by 50% since 1990. Catholic Churches have witnessed their youth involvement double in the last decade. The youth are coming from all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why are the youth being drawn in great numbers to the Christian faith? Could it be the sense of belonging that they are after? Has the culture that they have grown up in made it important to belong to a group? What makes the youth of the nineties different from their predecessors? It's not like all of these kids come from disadvantaged or broken homes. Many of them are well–adjusted middle–class kids that don't need to be attached to something out side of themselves to be validated or excepted. The one thing that they all seem to have in common is that they have been raised in a much more complex social atmosphere than past youngsters. They have spent more time in front of a television than any other generation. They have been labeled a generation without a cause. Their energy has been sapped by endless hours of Nintendo and the constant race to stay on the cutting edge of fashion. They become consumers at younger ages too and that brings on the pressure to have the best, and have it first. Kids find themselves making one purchase after another and never coming away with anything that will last. The life that Hollywood romanices and glorifies leaves them feeling hollow and unfulfilled. The youth today are experiencing burn out at a very young age. Suicide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Douglas Coupland Generation X Generation X by Douglas Coupland reveals the struggles of the post–baby boomer generation in asserting themselves as conventionally successful members of society. Written and set in Palm Springs, California, the book tells the tale of three close friends who, falling into the group of people born after the post–war baby–boom, have left behind their old lives and moved to Palm Springs in search of a cleaner, less materialistic existence. Originally meant to be a non–fiction handbook for the generation born after the baby boom, Coupland's final fictitious work had an increasingly profound effect worldwide after being published in 1991. Influenced by his own life among other things, Generation X discusses the plights faced by "twentysomethings" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through stories told by the different characters through fragmented narrative, Generation X opens the world's eyes to the struggles of "overeducated and underemployed" twentysomethings. His vivid diction is a large part of the excellent word quality. Compelling issues that Gen X kids are "tired" of, most noticeably consumerism and materialism (a chapter in the book is titled "I Am Not a Target Market"), are discussed with informal but thoughtful language. The author's own neologisms, or newly coined words or expressions, can be seen in the margins of the pages. This inventive component is eye–opening and helps the reader understand and enjoy the book better. In one case, the definition of a "Mid–twenties Breakdown" is given after the narrator notes that one of his friends has already had his: "A period of mental collapse occurring in one's twenties, often caused by an inability to function outside of school or structured environments coupled with a realisation of one's essential aloneness in the world. Often marks induction into the ritual of pharmaceutical usage. Another creative aspect of this book is the inclusion of cartoons to better illustrate a point. For example, the most well–known drawing from this book is of a woman saying, "Don't worry, mother... If the marriage doesn't work out, we can always get divorced." These interesting traits make Generation X a more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The And Of The Generation X Children The interviews provided general consensus that Millennials were not giving regularly, proportionately, or generously. Stein and Evans have Millennial children. Youngberg had Generation X children. Most had some teaching exposure with Millennials as teachers, designers, and home life as parents. Between the four previous teachers and designers of the curriculum, there was a unique mix of a certified public accountant, engineer, master's in business administration, pastor, and an average guy. The ability of those members of the teaching team and the design phase to handle most questions and provide a balanced approach was the genius of the group. Youngberg stated that lifestyles that compete with the Lord's priorities, that they did not get training in home, and lack of biblical moral and ethical reasoning were why Millennials do not understand and apply biblical stewardship. Evans also mentioned that Millennials have a distorted view of wealth, do not understand stewardship, and do not see stewardship modeled by their parents or others in society. Hackathorn stated that a lack of resources including discretionary income, time constraints to start career and establish a family competes with their time availability and resources. The final one was an inward focus on meeting their needs. There was also one other observation that none of the design members mentioned, the age of the church has provided a large number of families that are at least two generations deep if not three or four that all attend the same church. The totals would seem large at first but when averages and medians are considered it is much smaller and disproportionate. There were 127 younger Millennial donors, and there were 241 older Millennial donors. The average therefore for younger Millennials is $1,234. The average for older Millennials is $2,529. The median giving patterns are even more telling of the top–heavy giving patterns. If averages are used for reverse tithe amount, that would mean that young Millennials are making ... • 12. Generation X : The Generation Of The Generation Who is apart of this "Generation X" group? Typically, people who were born in the years of 1965–1980. People who were born in those times had a hard life. They grew up during the Aids breakout, the fall of the Berlin Wall, Watergate and the end of the Cold War. This lead to them being Suspicious and cynical. People of this generation usually don't trust too many people. You are considered being apart of the "Millennials" generation if you were born in the years of 1981–2000. People of this generation are typically spoiled and brattish. We grew up during the War on Terrorism, 9 /11, school shootings, and the introduction to social media. We are more friendly and inviting compared to the past generations. We are quicker to accept people into our groups/cliques. For as core values, the "Gen Xer's" are more independent than our generation. Our generation is more dependent on our parents for everything. For example, my mom had to work during high school just to pay for college, because her parents weren't able to afford the cost of college. That shows how she worked for what she wanted, knowing that she didn't have the support of her parents to depend on. But for me I look for my mother and step dad to pay my tuition every semester. Another thing that is different about our generation from anyone else is our responsibility with money. We as young adults have a problem with spending as soon as we get. Most definitely me, I am terrible at this. Last semester, I had a job at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Generation X And Generation Y In this study, the most interesting insight I read that the article distinguishes two generations, generation X and generation Y, they have varied on expectation of life. Additionally, the employer should realize to diversities of employee personality in the organization, which might contribute to making a conflict in teamwork such as having the different attitude, not understanding in other characteristics, confident of subconscious and so on. The generation X, who is composed of the parent of generation Y (born between 1965 and 1981), this generation has an optimistic aspect, and also prefer having life balances with working hard. In contrast, the generation Y (born between 1982 and 2000), the generation Y (born between 1982 and 2000), who grew up with enslavement by technology and have more independent (Susaeta et al. 2013). So, I have comprehended the key which might helpful to make deduction of working in the future. However, I think the personal behavior depends on education developmental, nation cultural and the environment where is they grew up, especially the influence of family affects to new generation thinking. As can be seen in the study of the authors of attitude to work shows that the means for attitudes to work both for individuals in generation X and Y are slightly different, it might because of the nation cultural. • 15. Generational Differences: Generation X and Generation Y The hottest topic of conversation is between two generations is superiority. The Generation X argues that Generation Y is getting everything in their plate without having to work for it. The millenials counter that by saying that technological know how is the need of the day and nobody survives bereft of that. This is what the older generations lacks and finds it difficult to cope with the times. Hence the millenials consider themselves better. But is this argument really valid? Are the criteria used equally applicable? After the interview with my friend and my uncle, I decided that my friend has a better opinion about the generational differences. Generation Y– also "called Millennials" refers to people born approximately between the 1980's –2000. The striking behavior patterns we see among them are one being "group oriented". They are more comfortable acting in groups. Facebook is just one of many examples, which being an integral part of their lives. Typically they have also been more subjected to group activities since childhood, often parents or teachers engaging them in–group activities. Parents and the current teaching system are responsible for their obsession with group activities. They are also highly optimistic about everything, and positive in their outlook. Though we know that they are also vulnerable to stress. They are really passionate about everything they do, regardless of the outcome. Recently on January 27, 2017 at a women's march rally Jessica Romoff performed a poem which captured the characteristics of the X Generation. • 17. What Was The Difference Between Generation X And... The exchanging of this information can be portrayed in many ways. Some examples would be speaking, signing, and even writing. A large problem we have today would be the differences in generations when speaking to one another. With each generation being up to thirty years apart, they will each have a different set of core values that they will have learned to follow throughout their lifetime. With the problem at hand, we are stuck figuring out for ourselves if the older generations should have to keep up with the new language or if younger generations should stop changing the old language. A way to solve this would be for both generations to make a compromise so that everyone can be happy. Communication across generations can be very tough. A reason for this could be the different values and scenery that eachgeneration grew up in. A difference between the two most recent generations would be the rapid increase in technology. The majority of the Millennials were born when technology was being created and did not receive too many beneficial uses for it. Comparing the use of technology to Generation X and Traditionalists is a whole different story. Traditionalists grew up with the Great Depression and World War II looming over their heads. The technology was not even an option for them. For them to see us on our phones daily and using the internet for almost everything is very hard for them to understand. Traditionalists were more worried about making their money last and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Generation X : The Generation's Effect On The Young... Those on the younger end of the Generation Z spectrum, also called Generation X, spend their time outside of the classroom differently than one may think. Upon first thought, children who are currently in elementary school appear to be technology obsessed and crave a device at all times. When having the opportunity to sit down and ask these younger students about what they do in their free time, opinions can change to the opposite of what they once were. Generation X and Millennials perceptions tend to be stereotypical of the generation as a whole, rather than realizing that there are differences between each age group in a generation. Older Generation Z's viewpoints show that they believe technology only affects the younger population negatively. Aged Generation X members think younger people are so preoccupied with technology that the idea of playing outside and hanging around friends face to face becomes foreign; when really, it could not be more opposite. There is a split in the way Generation Z uses their free time, whereas the older half is more technology consumed, leaving the younger members hungering to live in the present. Initially, older portions of Generation X's social life do not look necessarily "social" compared to their junior counterparts. Images of video chat, text screens, and social media direct messaging come to mind when thinking about teenagers in this day and age. "Hanging out with friends" is now just a group of people sitting on their phones in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. A Short Note On Generation X And The Workplace Essay Millennials and Generation X in the Workplace Have you noticed the faces in your workplace getting younger before your eyes? You are not just imagining it! If the statistics being released on US demographics are accurate, millennials are slated to be the largest generation yet. This means that they will also make up the largest chunk of the labor pool for many years to come. Millennials, along with the smaller but significant Generation X, are replacing retiring baby boomers at an increasing pace. With this reality, it is obvious that businesses gain by learning what these younger generations want, and how they can tailor the work environment to address these desires. Getting over the Stereotypes To unlock the great potential contained within these younger generations, employers need to discard the stereotypes projected by the sensationalist media. This is not to say that these groups cannot be thought of in general terms. The environment that each group was born into and the opportunities offered to them work together to create a common history which can be a very powerful force in shaping the needs and desires of these generations. However, it would be a mistake to only rely on mainstream media depictions of these generations. The stereotypes the media reports tend to focus on negative qualities, creating a skewed perception of the ethics and values of these groups. Generation X was initially described as unfocused, apathetic, and sarcastic, while the millennials were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Baby Boomers vs. Generation X The Baby Boomers vs. Generation X America has about five generations that function in our society today, and they are Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Generation X, Generation Y, and the Millennial. It is interesting the way that an age gap influences the thinking of millions of people in different generations. Different times and situations require that different strategies be put in place for the following generation. Solutions that worked for one generation may be less useful for the next, so sometimes, because of the age gap, these solutions cause disagreements. These various ideologies all have one goal, and that is to be successful. We will discuss the path of the Baby Boomers and Generation X in the workplace environment. The Baby... • 41. X: the Influenced and Influential Generation Essay There are many aspects of my generation that reflect, define, and influence my generation. Its a difficult task to understand Generation X, my generation. We are like no generation before us, and no preceding generation will be like ours. We are empowered by the Internet, we have more knowledge about technology than our parents, and we are exposed to so much information. One thing remains unchanged, as with past generation; the relationship between us and our parents. Jamake Highwater once said, "the greatest distance between people is not space, but culture.(301)" This is true, my generation has their own culture, one which is of course different than that of our parents. We are still considered rebellious. We listen to music ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of them are indeed this way. Society and conditions that surround teenagers can shape them and mold them. They are impressionable and gullible. Their interests and upbringing can be the most influential factors of their lives. Friends of mine are adolescents, like myself. They have their own opinions. Some are more mature than others. Some are more gullible than others. I'll use two contrasting friends to show how one has been influenced and how my other friend hasn't been influenced that much. One Caucasian friend of mine wears hip hop clothes, jewelry and indulges in the hip hop culture. It isn't surprising to hear a mixture of Italian, Puerto Rican, and Egyptian DNA, recite rap lyrics, use slang, and claim to be "gangsta." Afterall, he does attend a school in which, the majority of students are black. He thinks of himself as a player, a playboy, like most of the rappers do. He is conceited. He is my friend, but he is fake, fiction, a creation of society. He's a Christian, but he doesn't attend church. The cross he wears on his chain is just for style. A factor in his life is the fact that his parents are separated. He lives with his grand parents, and they aren't restrictive. Maybe he would have turned out different had his parents been together throughout his adolescence. My other friend is American Guyanese, he is black, but dislikes black people. He is not conceited, has a care free attitude, and is very secure. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Stihl Case Study Essay 1. Was the decision to avoid the home–center channel a good one? Explain. What are the benefits of sticking with it? What are the concerns? The decision to avoid the home–center channel was an appropriate decision for Stihl Incorporated (Stihl). Stihl's product line consists of a high quality line of outdoor power equipment: chain saws, edgers, string trimmers, brush cutters, blowers, vacuums, mulchers, and sprayers. In order to differentiate Stihl's high quality products from its competitors (satisfying buyer requirements), the selected intermediary or channel representative needed to provide the appropriate education on proper product operation, maintenance, and overall performance compared to competitive brands (information). In order to maintain it's quality and brand image it was best to not supply big box stores such as Home Depot and Best Buy. 2.Looking out three to five years, does total reliance on independent dealers continue to make sense? Why or why not? With the shift in the end customers demographics, it would be wise for Stihl to consider alternative strategies to supplement their current reliance on independent specialty dealers. A company must always address who the end customer is, when you forget or choose to ignore who the customer is, then you tend to not be able to reach them. The marketing mix (product, price, placement, and promotion) has to be in tune with who the end customer is and what their economic situation might be. The case breaks down the changes or shift in demographics in the form of predictables and unpredictibles. Unpredictables Economic uncertainties, housing market booms and crashes, and commodity prices are difficult to predict and therefore transitioning between them should always be a priority as they occur. Predictables Generationally:The case shows that their current end customers tended to be baby boomers (born 1946 – 1964) and generation x (born 1965–1984). Generation X, By Megan Johnson And Larry Johnson Essay Generations, INC.: From Boomers to Linksters–Managing the Friction Between Generations at Work by Megan Johnson and Larry Johnson Chapter Four: Big Bird, Wayne's World, and Home Alone: Signposts for Generation X Accordingly, occasionally known as the "Forgotten generation of all of the four generations," Generation X continues to redefined that similar to the prior generations, Generation X has made and continues to make historic strives on society as well. First, Generation Xers redefined how pursing a higher education and focusing on establishing a career, demonstrated to previous generations that the terms of marriage and starting a family can be "Put on hold, for now." To paraphrase, Johnson and Johnson (2010) note that in 1985, half of the college students attendees were women of Generation X (p. 64). What is more, as these women attended college, the marriage in America declined to forty–seven percent between the 1940s to the mid–1970s (Johnson and Johnson, 2010, p. 64). Moreover, Generation Xers in the workplace embraced creating a work and life balance, demonstrating independence in the workplace; expecting the workplace to be an engaging experience.
