The Atkins Food Pyramid
Atkins diet foods are easy to find and available everywhere. There are many varieties to choose from,
whether you pick prepackaged low–carb diet foods or make your own meals. No matter how you
want to do the Atkins plan, there is a solution out there for you.
You'll need to keep the Atkinsfood pyramid in mind when you make food choices. The Atkins
pyramid looks much different than the USDA Food Guide Pyramid. The base of the pyramid
consists of protein sources such as eggs, fish, beef, chicken and tofu. On a daily basis, your diet
should consist primarily of these foods. The second tier has low glycemic vegetables like salad
greens, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus and spinach.
The third tier is made up of berries and avocado. Fruits should...show more content...
The Induction phase is the most restrictive, but it only lasts two weeks.
You owe it to your dieting success to stay within the acceptable foods list. One of the best ways to
do this is to follow the Atkins menu plans that are printed within the New Diet Revolution book.
There are also Atkins cookbooks and cookbooks that are geared toward other low carb diets that are
helpful in formulating meal plans.
It's a helpful idea to use a cheat sheet of acceptable Atkins foods wherever you go. If you are out
and about and hungry, the last thing you want to do is to try to think back in your memory to
figure out what you can and cannot eat. Carrying a list of acceptable foods with you will make
finding a snack or meal while out on the run easy. You can't always rely on "low carb" labels to tell
you whether or not something is diet friendly. Ever since low carb became the new diet craze,
manufacturers have been jumping on the bandwagon to attract Atkins dieters. They label items low
carb to sell products and don't have your health in mind. Relying on foods from your own personal
list is the best way to stay on the

Self esteem is someones view of themselves. Normally, self esteem can be body image or how
they fell about their position in life. Factors normally that lead to low self esteem can be a part of
anxiety or depression. Low self esteem in a personal life can led to someone isolating themselves
from others. In a professional level, low self esteem can cause a low work ethic, and someone can
be vastly behind in how much work they do and have done.
Describe the "food pyramid" and explain its purpose, how it can be used, and how you can use it to
help manage your health.
A diagram in the shape of a pyramid that is supposed to show how much of a certain food group
people should eat. These groups are grains, fruits, meats, vegetables, and dairy. It can be used by
people who are unaware how to take care of themselves and they would like something to gauge
there diet off of. I could use this when I go on a diet and I can gauge how much food i need in
certain categories and cutback in others.
Explain what is meant by "non–verbal communication," then describe some examples of positive and
negative non–verbal communication behaviors and gestures.
Non–verbal communications are someone's actions and mannerisms that can be taken for some
emotions. Normally, examples of non verbal communication can be body emotes, such as crossing
your arms or "closing" yourself. Others would be having open posture, such as having open arms.
Normally good posture is more "open", such as having your arms

Mexican Food Pyramid Research Paper
Comparing Mexican food pyramid and the United States they have similar food recommendations,
consuming fruit, vegetables, grains, meats, dairy and drinking water daily. The intake for the
Mexican food group is the same serving size as the United States pyramid. Corn and beans are the
basis of the Mexican diet is and found in almost every meal, corn, beans, and peppers are cheap and
widely available. Mexicans are self–sufficient in growing and producing vegetables and fruits for
their country. They eat many different kinds of tropical fruit including papaya, lychee, pineapple,
prickly pear, mango and star fruit. Mexicans eat a well–balanced meal based on their food pyramid.
The Mexico pyramid is designed as a round plate divided into 3 sections.

problem with the Pyramid turned out to be the servings listed under each food group.
Many people are unaware of the difference between a serving and a portion. A serving is a guideline
or standard unit of measurement. We need this measurement to help estimate how much someone
consumes. The portion is the actual number of servings that you consume. For example, if you eat a
sandwich with two pieces of bread you would have two servings from the

Carroll's global corporate social responsibility pyramid is a model that summarizes the responsibility
of multinational corporations to ensure they are pursuing certain responsibilities correlating to
philanthropic, ethical, legal, and economic aspects (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013). On Carroll's global
corporate social responsibility pyramid, Whole Foods would be located on the Level 4. Level 4
focuses on economic responsibility, and Whole Food is infamous for their policies relating to
economic responsibility. Whole Foods consistently works to provide their customers withorganic
food that is produced from humane and environmentally conscious vendors (Cheretis & Mujtaba,

Thesis Statement For Food Pyramid
Research Question:
In what ways does the school feeding program of the local community help in increasing children's

Thesis Statement:

Introduction
Based on a statement, a nutrient deficiency occurs when a person lacks one or more nutrients in a
period of time. This deficiency is classified as primary and secondary. The Primary deficiencies are
commonly caused by an improper diet and can be assessed by based on asking the patients diet
history. While the Secondary deficiencies are caused by a problem inside of the body. In addition,
nutrient deficiency commonly results in malnutrition. The most prone of malnutrition are the
infants, preschool children, adolescents, the elderly, and the pregnant women. If parents do not
know about proper nutrition it will make their children prone to the illness. Infants and preschool
children depend on their mother's selection of food. Preschool children may face additional hazard
because they are particular about what they eat.

The food pyramid is a good way to educate the people on their best interest, so they can be healthy.
The food guide pyramid is made not to harm others but to benefit them. This promotes each
individuals own interests and it is the best for most of the people. When children who do attend
school are unable to get the full benefit of doing due to being malnourished, education systems are
damaged. The feeding program is not only useful in encouraging children to enroll and stay in school
but also for enhancing children's learning and knowledge about their

The Food Guide Pyramid Is Good
The food guide pyramid plays an important role in the health education of the majority of people
in the United States. It is meant to guide the general healthy public in how to eat healthy to stay

(Davis and Saltos, 1999, p37) The first edition of these guidelines came out in 1980. The Dietary
Guidelines focused on the five major food groups. They are: the bread, cereal, rice and pasta group;
the vegetable group' the fruit group; the milk, yogurt, and the cheese group; and the meat. Poultry,
fish, dry beans, eggs, and nuts group, and recommends sparing use of a sixth food group–fats, oils,
and sweets. (Davis and Saltos, 1999, p37) This is very close to what has been used since then. In
1988 the groups were formed into a picture that could show what they were trying to say. A
pyramid was chose with the smallest amount of foods in a group at the top of the pyramid and the
largest group at the bottom of the pyramid. The second editions of the dietary guidelines came out
in 1985, the third in 1990, and the fourth in 1995. After 1995 there was a mandate that required
that a new edition came out every 5 years. The guidelines have not changed drastically over the
years. (Davis and Saltos, 1999) Furthermore, scientists had found little evidence that a high intake
of carbohydrates is beneficial, since 1992 more and more research has shown that the USDA
pyramid is grossly flawed. By promoting the consumption of all complex carbohydrates and
eschewing all fats and oils, the pyramid provides misleading guidance. In short, not all fats are bad
for you, and by no means are all complex

The first Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA's) were developed in 1941. These made
recommendations of specific intakes for calories, Vitamins A and D, thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, and
ascorbic acid. Nutrition education for the public was also and important subject that was brought
up. (Davis and Saltos, 1999) In 1943 the Basic Seven food guide was published in the USDA, and
was revised in 1946. This talked about a diet that would accommodate the basic RDA's but did
not have enough calories. (Davis and Saltos, 1999) In 1956 there was more research being done
on foods and their relation to chronic diseases. Fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium were
especially looked at. In 1977 the "Dietary Goals for the United States" focused on avoiding the
nutrients that were found to cause these chronic diseases. (Davis and Saltos, 1999) These diseases
which will include the raises cholesterol levels in the blood. High cholesterol levels, in turn, are
associated with a high risk of coronary heat disease (heart attack and other ailments caused by the
blockage of the arteries to the heart). In 1979 there were publications out on what fats, sugars, and
sodium can do in relation to chronic diseases. This changed the food groups to the "basic four" plus
a fifth group that includes fats, sweets, and alcoholic beverages, which says they should be eaten in
moderation. "The first edition of the Dietary

Food Guide Pyramid And Mypyramid
In June 2011, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and The Center for Nutrition
Policy and Promotion (CNPP) launched the MyPlate icon, "a simple, yet powerful, visual cue to
prompt consumers to think about their food choices across food groups and to build a healthy plate
at meal times" (Levine et al., 2012). MyPlate like its predecessors, the Food Guide Pyramid and
MyPyramid follow the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA), which includes communication
tools and materials to assist with choosing healthy food options. In addition, the MyPlate Web site
encompasses "the SuperTracker tool to personalize food plans, consumer educational materials and
e–tools, social media engagement, and a partnership initiative to help coordinate and disseminate
consistent messages of the DGA" (Levine et al., 2012). Research shows that seventy–two percent of
individuals responsible for the purchasing and preparing of food for the entire household have a
strong influence over meal consumption. Therefore, by targeting those individuals who purchase
and prepare most of the food, the communication strategy for MyPlate can be best employed for all
users. However, since the launch of MyPlate the African American community has failed to utilize
the MyPlate website. Most importantly, African Americans are disproportionately affected by
"obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease, and it is likely that a host of factors

Atkins Diet Vs. Food Pyramid Essay
In today's society, people's appearance means a lot to them. One of the major things that people
focus on is their weight. There are dozens of new diets that people try every year. One of the more
popular diets in the last few years is the Atkins diet. Even though it does help you lose weight
quickly and easily, it doesn't provide a well nutritional eating style.
The Atkins Diet plan was developed by Dr. Robert Atkins over 30 years ago. (5) It revolutionized the
diet world. Despite the fact that the Atkins diet has been around for over 30 years, many people
even to this day dismiss it as a passing fad. However, I don't think this diet is a passing fad. I believe
this diet is going to be around for a long time. The Atkins diet has been...show more content...
The results of five scientific studies recently presented at conferences are remarkably consistent.
Subjects on some form of the Atkins Diet plan lost twice as much weight as did subjects on the
low–fat, low–calorie diets.(1) With the Atkins Diet approach in all five studies, cholesterol levels
improved similarly with both diets, but triglyceride levels remained considerably lower. It has also
been proven that Atkins Diet provides great health benefits to the heart patients and shows promise
for heavy heart patients. The Atkins diet is also supposed to help against high blood pressure. (5)
People who start using Atkins diet tend to lose a lot of weight quickly. Once people learn the
skills to maintain this diet, people tend to keep the weight off. But the problem is no one can ever
go off this diet. It's a lifetime commitment and if you do choose to go off the diet, you tend to gain
back the weight you started with. The majority of people also gain end up weighing more than what
they had before they began the diet.
Another negative effect about the Atkins diet is that it can result in vitamin and mineral deficiencies.
Hence, a wide–range of nutritional supplements, including a multi–vitamin, is recommended. The
following daily dosages are suggested: 300–600 micrograms (mcg) of chromium picolinate, 100–400
milligrams (mg) of pantetheine, 200 mcg of selenium, and 450–675 mcg of biotin. (5)
The final set back about the Atkins diet is that it is limited

Late eighties, Food Guide Pyramid's process began by the United States Department of Agriculture.
They introduced it in 1992. The guideline was based on bread, cereal, rice, and pasta. And they
added a plenty of low–fat foods in the guideline caused on decreasing heart disease, obesity, diabetes,
and other chronic conditions. And companies reengineered products to low–fat and fat–free.
Unfortunately, following diet has not helped us to lose weight or decrease disease.
A fat we carry around has useful functions. It stores energy for future use, produces important
chemicals, builds cell membranes and neutral structures, provides padding, insulates against cold,
supplies fuel, and supports your immune system. Fat provides a highly–concentrated...show more

Results were low–fat diet and food are not healthy trend. Why is low–fat foods still popular? We
have believed low–fat food is healthy for us for twenty years because of the advertisement of the
low–fat foods such as Food Guide Pyramid and other advertisement from companies. Also it seems
like we are targeted by Fast Food Industries because low–fat is much chipper than natural fats.
Moreover, the guideline effected harm. Instead of becoming healthier, people became fatter, and
heart disease continued to climb along with Type 2 diabetes. They replaced meats and fats with
carbohydrates (including sugars, such as table sugar and corn syrup; starchy foods such as potatoes
and rice; foods made with grains). Mainly, avoid a fat means added sugar, salt, and refined grains
more than normal portion. Beginning in the early eighties, the incidence of obesity started rising
sharply, along with Type 2 diabetes. According to Place at the Table, "One in three children born

The Basics of the Food Pyramid
Food pyramid is a graphic representation of the structure of a food chain, depicted as a pyramid
having a broad base formed by producers and tapering to a point formed by end consumers
between successive levels, total biomass decreases as energy is lost from the system. It also
defines as a diagrammatic representation of recommended portions of basic food groups.
Another name is diet pyramid. (The American Heritage Medical Dictionary,2010).The history of
food pyramid begins in early 1970's in Sweden because of high food price which lead to
demonstration. In 1974, food pyramid officially introduce to public. Then in 2005, the food
pyramid was called 'MyPyramid'. It was introduce by the U.S Department of Agriculture. The
basic food are potatoes, dairy, grains and pasta were placed at the bottom of food pyramid.
Vegetables and fruits were placed at the middle of food pyramid. There are several ways how the
stages of food pyramid affects and effects human which is carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and
minerals; and fats.
Carbohydrates is an organic compounds which comprising only carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. A
carbohydrate is also an ideal source of energy to make glucose which is a fuel to the body. The
carbohydrates that transform to glucose will immediately store in the liver and muscles to be use
when it's needed. It is divided into 4 chemical groups which are monosaccharide, disaccharides,

Whole Food Market Pyramid Essay
One would place Whole Foods Market at the top of Carroll's Corporate Social Responsibility
Pyramid where the focus is philanthropic responsibility. This pinnacle is where an organization
has achieved peak performance on Carroll's Pyramid and are performing as good global corporate
citizens (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013). Whole Foods Market is doing what is desired by global
stakeholders and fulfilling their philanthropic responsibility (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013). Placing a
marker for Whole Foods Market at the top of the pyramid implies that the three supporting levels
economic responsibility, legal responsibility, and ethical responsibility have been satisfied (Kreitner
& Kinicki, 2013). This echoes Carroll's belief that total corporate social responsibility is recognized
by the sum of all the pyramid's parts (Geva, 2008). Interpretation of the pyramid model put forth
by Carroll in order of importance places economic responsibility at the base. Carroll's four
categories are ranked by their placement to depict importance (Geva, 2008). Responsibly making a
profit is the foundation of Whole Food Market's corporate social responsibility and must be achieved
before consideration of applying additional levels of the pyramid (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013).

Whole Foods Market answers its stakeholders desires on both levels. According to Carroll's
Pyramid, obeying the law is fulfills the legal responsibility level when it is executed in a way
required by global stakeholders (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013). Ethical responsibility performed as
expected by global stakeholders is next the next level of the pyramid and it is more than simply
being ethical (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013). By achieving the third level of Carroll's Pyramid, Whole
Foods Market has built the foundation upon which the final pyramids level can be

Analysis: Former Food Pyramid
Former Food Pyramid The message from the visual about former food pyramid is very clear
because one can easily get the message from it, i.e., one can understand the various food groups and
the amounts he or she needs to ingest at a time. The visual is right for the story because the pyramid
shows the type of food, amounts one can consume, and the importance depending on the rank in the
pyramid (Locker, 2009). The design is appropriate because each of the foods in the pyramid has its
natural color. The visual does not contain any information or symbol that is not significant meaning
that it is free from chart junk. The visual has a clear message and, therefore, it does not mislead the
reader.

One cannot understand if it is meant to promote the use of windmills or other sources that are
environmentally friendly (Locker, 2009). The visual is right because it compares the use of
windmills in the United States with other forms of energy. However, the design is not appropriate
because it uses distinct colors to represent the same element. For instance, in the two visuals, natural
gas is represented by two different colors. The visual has no chart junk and does not mislead the
viewer.
Burden of Disease Attributable to Alcohol
This visual is clear because from it one can easily get the message. The visual is also well suited for
the conveying of that message because it shows the burden of disease attributable to alcohol in the
different sub–regions of the world (Locker, 2009). The colors in the visual also represent different
regions, and each color has a figure attached to it making its design appropriate. Since it is talking
about sub–regions of the world, the choice of the world map was the best (Kernbach, 2015). The
visual does not contain chart junks and it is not

I feel that "my plate" is the best daily meal plan. While the food pyramid was a useful tool, it
showed what all should be eaten in an entire day. With my plate, you are shown what is needed
one meal at a time. This simplifies things and makes people feel less overwhelmed. Also, with the
plate, things are put into a better perspective because you are looking at a plate and visualizing
what it should look like. The plate focuses more on fruits and vegetables, whereas the pyramid
focuses on grains. Most people's plates are overloaded with grains/carbs and not enough fruits and
vegetables. My plate also completely leaves off fats, oils, and sugars. The pyramid suggests eating
these in moderation, but pretty much everything you eat is going to

Food Pyramid Essay

  • 1. The Atkins Food Pyramid Atkins diet foods are easy to find and available everywhere. There are many varieties to choose from, whether you pick prepackaged low–carb diet foods or make your own meals. No matter how you want to do the Atkins plan, there is a solution out there for you. You'll need to keep the Atkinsfood pyramid in mind when you make food choices. The Atkins pyramid looks much different than the USDA Food Guide Pyramid. The base of the pyramid consists of protein sources such as eggs, fish, beef, chicken and tofu. On a daily basis, your diet should consist primarily of these foods. The second tier has low glycemic vegetables like salad greens, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus and spinach. The third tier is made up of berries and avocado. Fruits should...show more content... The Induction phase is the most restrictive, but it only lasts two weeks. You owe it to your dieting success to stay within the acceptable foods list. One of the best ways to do this is to follow the Atkins menu plans that are printed within the New Diet Revolution book. There are also Atkins cookbooks and cookbooks that are geared toward other low carb diets that are helpful in formulating meal plans. It's a helpful idea to use a cheat sheet of acceptable Atkins foods wherever you go. If you are out and about and hungry, the last thing you want to do is to try to think back in your memory to figure out what you can and cannot eat. Carrying a list of acceptable foods with you will make finding a snack or meal while out on the run easy. You can't always rely on "low carb" labels to tell you whether or not something is diet friendly. Ever since low carb became the new diet craze, manufacturers have been jumping on the bandwagon to attract Atkins dieters. They label items low carb to sell products and don't have your health in mind. Relying on foods from your own personal list is the best way to stay on the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

It can be used by people who are unaware how to take care of themselves and they would like something to gauge there diet off of. I could use this when I go on a diet and I can gauge how much food i need in certain categories and cutback in others. Explain what is meant by "non–verbal communication," then describe some examples of positive and negative non–verbal communication behaviors and gestures. Non–verbal communications are someone's actions and mannerisms that can be taken for some emotions. The message was that each group provided some, but not all nutrients, and no one food group is more important than the other. The Food Pyramid also included a range of servings for each of the food groups. The minimum range was listed for "almost everyone," and the maximum was based on your calorie needs. The biggest problem with the Pyramid turned out to be the servings listed under each food group. Many people are unaware of the difference between a serving and a portion. A serving is a guideline or standard unit of measurement. We need this measurement to help estimate how much someone consumes. The portion is the actual number of servings that you consume. Food Guide Pyramid And Mypyramid In June 2011, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and The Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP) launched the MyPlate icon, "a simple, yet powerful, visual cue to prompt consumers to think about their food choices across food groups and to build a healthy plate at meal times" (Levine et al., 2012). MyPlate like its predecessors, the Food Guide Pyramid and MyPyramid follow the Dietary Guidelines for Americans (DGA), which includes communication tools and materials to assist with choosing healthy food options. In addition, the MyPlate Web site encompasses "the SuperTracker tool to personalize food plans, consumer educational materials and e–tools, social media engagement, and a partnership initiative to help coordinate and disseminate consistent messages of the DGA" (Levine et al., 2012). Research shows that seventy–two percent of individuals responsible for the purchasing and preparing of food for the entire household have a strong influence over meal consumption. Therefore, by targeting those individuals who purchase and prepare most of the food, the communication strategy for MyPlate can be best employed for all users. However, since the launch of MyPlate the African American community has failed to utilize the MyPlate website. • 11. Atkins Diet Vs. Food Pyramid Essay In today's society, people's appearance means a lot to them. One of the major things that people focus on is their weight. There are dozens of new diets that people try every year. One of the more popular diets in the last few years is the Atkins diet. Even though it does help you lose weight quickly and easily, it doesn't provide a well nutritional eating style. The Atkins Diet plan was developed by Dr. Robert Atkins over 30 years ago. (5) It revolutionized the diet world. Despite the fact that the Atkins diet has been around for over 30 years, many people even to this day dismiss it as a passing fad. The results of five scientific studies recently presented at conferences are remarkably consistent. Subjects on some form of the Atkins Diet plan lost twice as much weight as did subjects on the low–fat, low–calorie diets.(1) With the Atkins Diet approach in all five studies, cholesterol levels improved similarly with both diets, but triglyceride levels remained considerably lower. It has also been proven that Atkins Diet provides great health benefits to the heart patients and shows promise for heavy heart patients. The Atkins diet is also supposed to help against high blood pressure. (5) People who start using Atkins diet tend to lose a lot of weight quickly. Once people learn the skills to maintain this diet, people tend to keep the weight off. But the problem is no one can ever go off this diet. It's a lifetime commitment and if you do choose to go off the diet, you tend to gain back the weight you started with. The majority of people also gain end up weighing more than what they had before they began the diet. Another negative effect about the Atkins diet is that it can result in vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Hence, a wide–range of nutritional supplements, including a multi–vitamin, is recommended. The following daily dosages are suggested: 300–600 micrograms (mcg) of chromium picolinate, 100–400 milligrams (mg) of pantetheine, 200 mcg of selenium, and 450–675 mcg of biotin. This pinnacle is where an organization has achieved peak performance on Carroll's Pyramid and are performing as good global corporate citizens (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013). Whole Foods Market is doing what is desired by global stakeholders and fulfilling their philanthropic responsibility (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013). Placing a marker for Whole Foods Market at the top of the pyramid implies that the three supporting levels economic responsibility, legal responsibility, and ethical responsibility have been satisfied (Kreitner & Kinicki, 2013). This echoes Carroll's belief that total corporate social responsibility is recognized by the sum of all the pyramid's parts (Geva, 2008). Interpretation of the pyramid model put forth by Carroll in order of importance places economic responsibility at the base. Carroll's four categories are ranked by their placement to depict importance (Geva, 2008).
