3. Nani Palkhivala was born in
1920 in Bombay to blue collar, middle-
class Parsi parents. His family name derives
from the profession of his forefathers (a
common practice among Parsis), who had been
manufacturers of palanquins ("palkhis").
He was educated at Masters Tutorial High
School, and later at St. Xavier's College,
both in Bombay. He was a dedicated scholar
and excelled even though he was hampered
by a bad stammer. At college, he earned a
master's degree in English literature. He
overcame his speech impediment.
Nani was taken critically ill on December 7,
2002, and taken to Jaslok Hospital in
Mumbai. He was 82 when he died on

4. Green Movement
No other movement in the World history gripped
the imagination of the entire human race so rapidly
and so completely as the Green Movement. It was
started in 1972 in New Zealand where the world’s
first nationwide Green party was founded . Since
then the movement has not turned to look back.

5. In May 1972 a meeting at Victoria University, Wellington, launched the Values Party, the world's first national
Green party.
The party contested the 1972 general election, with radical new policies such as zero economic growth and zero
population growth and promoted reform of laws covering abortion, drugs and homosexuality.
These policies formed the world's first Green election manifesto 'Blueprint for New Zealand - An Alternative
Future'.
Over the next three years Green policies were further debated, developed and expanded to create 'Beyond
Tomorrow', the 1975 Values Party manifesto. This comprehensive statement of Green politics was widely
distributed overseas and contributed to the development of Green parties elsewhere.
The Values Party achieved 5.3% of the vote in 1975 which, under an MMP system, would have earned it seats in
Parliament. Unfortunately under the First Past the Post constituency-based system Values was never able to
concentrate its vote in one electorate and thus could not win even one seat.
Despite a large and active membership, and a very professional election campaign in 1978, its vote dropped to just
over 2% as voters attempted (unsuccessfully) to rid the country of conservative Prime Minister Rob Muldoon by
voting Labour.

6. We have begun to take a holistic
and ecological view of the very
basis of our existence. We have
entered the era of responsibility
by seeing the world as an
integrated whole rather than
dissociated collection of parts.
More and more people should
follow in the footsteps of the
chairman of Du Pont, Mr. Edgar

himself as the chief environment

manufactures should also excel in

7. The concept of Sustainable Development was popularized in 1987 by
the world commission of environment and development. In its report it
is defined the idea as "Development that meets the needs of
present, without compromising the ability of future generations to
meet their needs”,i.e. without stripping the natural world of resources
future generations would need.

The biggest challenge that mankind is facing in this century is "To Save
The Earth” and there is a "global warning" about it given by scientist .It
has become a big cry from every corner of the world "How to save the
earth “, every nation, every forums, every where and in every thing
they discuss about how to save our earth from the biggest threats.
Scientists had laid down the root cause for this situation as the
increase in the amount of carbon DI oxide let out on the atmosphere
by our industries and automobiles. If this is going to continue we may
loose our land to oceans and the indifferent climate conditions may
also lead to new unknown diseases, which may challenge the medical
world. It is not an issue with the scientists alone, every individual can
join hands in this global mission on "How to save the earth ", and i
have listed something below. Unless we understand the effects of
global warming it is really going to be tough to save our mother earth.
10. THE MAJOR CAUSES ARE AS FOLLOWS-
POLLUTION
DEFORESTATION
GLOBAL WARMING
POPULATION

Erosion of Soil: When forest areas are cleared, it results in exposing the soil to the sun,
making it very dry and eventually, infertile, due to volatile nutrients such as nitrogen being
lost. In addition, when there is rainfall, it washes away the rest of the nutrients, which flow
with the rainwater into waterways. Because of this, merely replanting trees may not help in
solving the problems caused by deforestation, for by the time the trees mature, the soil will
be totally devoid of essential nutrients. Ultimately, cultivation in this land will also become
impossible, resulting in the land becoming useless. Large tracts of land will be rendered
permanently impoverished due to soil erosion.
Disruption of the Water Cycle: Trees contribute in a large way in maintaining the water
cycle. They draw up water via their roots, which is then released into the atmosphere. A
large part of the water that circulates in the ecosystem of rainforests, for instance,
remains inside the plants. When these trees are cut down it results in the climate getting
drier in that area.
Loss of Biodiversity: The unique biodiversity of various geographical areas is being lost on a
scale that is quite unprecedented. Even though tropical rainforests make up just 6 percent
of the surface area of the Earth, about 80-90 percent of the entire species of the world
exist here. Due to massive deforestation, about 50 to 100 species of animals are being lost
each day. The outcome of which is the extinction of animals and plants on a massive scale.

aThere are two things that affect the population size of the
world:
Birth rate- the number of live babies born per
thousand of the population per year.
Death rate-the number of deaths per
thousand of the population per year.
When the birth rate is higher than the death rate, more
people are being born than are dying, so the population
grows
This is called Natural increase
When the death rate is higher than the birth rate it is called
the natural decrease.
