2. My music magazine resembles a music magazine significantly through the
positioning and sophistication of each of the conventions. The conventions
that I have used are the use of a bold/clear masthead and headlines, as well
as sell lines, banner and barcode throughout the front cover, contents and
DPS. This all helps to represent a music magazine significantly. The
positioning of the conventions all conform to other hip hop magazines that I
carefully analysed. Below are sections taken from the front cover, contents
page and DPS showing the aspects that resemble a music magazine.

3. The main image on the front cover is
positioned in the centre of the page on
top of the masthead giving the front cover
a professional and attractive look. The
sell lines are placed around the main
image allowing for the image to stand out
and capture your eye. On the contents
page I decided to place my image on the
right hand side allowing for me to display
more information. Also the DPS’ images
are placed at the bottom left and right of
each page. I have made the larger
picture the main image as it is more
striking and appeals to the audience. It
also allows for more space allowing for
me to display more information.

4. The layout of the front cover and contents page are similar to the regular
layout of hip hop music magazines, showing that my magazine clearly
looks/fits into the music genre that I have chosen. The colours and sell
lines used both suggest what music genre it is through the four based
colours being black, blue, grey and white which are colours that are very
appealing for my target audience within this specific genre. I kept the
sell lines on the front cover limited with captivating pieces of information.
The artists names are in bold so they are easily read, which will certainly
entice the audience. This clearly fits into the genre hip hop and rap.

5. I analysed and unpicked the Vibes magazine looking closely at its style,
structure and information as a guide for my magazine. I also compared it to
other magazines and looked for common grounds amongst them. This helped
to give me a clear idea of what my magazine must include, must not include
and where I could safely experiment by developing my own ideas and designs.
Looking at the Vibes magazine below helped me significantly through the
structure and placement of my magazine. As seen below is the comparison of
one of the vibes front cover and my final front cover. It shows how I took the
structure of Vibes front cover into consideration and developed and portrayed it
as my own.

6. In my photographs I decided to use
various props that would emphasise on
the genre of the magazine such as a
microphone, headphones, chains,
designer clothing etc. I tried to capture
two different lightings on my models
face which is subverting from the usual
photography in hip hop magazines.
This gives me an edge as the photo will
suggest it has more meaning. I have
also edited some images using
Photoshop to emphasise on the lighting
and smoothness of skin.
