4. OPDL
• Ontario Player Development League (May - October, 20 Games, OPDL
Cup, OPDL ON Campus and Charity Shield) U17 OPDL Games = Sundays
• Designed to create “Like vs. Like” competition for players training in a High
Performance Prep environment
• U17+ OPDL offers more meaningful competition and more competitive
training (transition from “Train to Train” to “Train to Compete” phases of
LTAD).
• Maturity of athletes brings more demand on the TEAM (coach-player-
parent) on and off the field.
• Development and expectation of the individual players increase as they
attempt to align with individual goals.
5. OPDL Trial Process
OPDL License Holders are required to conduct player trials following the trial phases outlined below:
Phase I – Non-OPDL Players Only
• Objective: Identify Players Outside OPDL Environments
• Activities: Open Trials and Invitation Only Trial
• Period: September 3rd, 2019 to December 31st, 2019
Phase II - OPDL Players
• Objective: Select Full Time Players
• Activity: Open Trials and Invitation Only Trial
• Period: September 30th, 2019 to December 31st, 2019
Phase III - Invitation Player's
• Objective: Select Additional Full Time or Developmental Players
• Activity: Open Trials and Invitation Only Trial
• Period: January 1st to April 15th, 2020
6. OPDL Team Selection
During a trial, a player should be evaluated using an LTPD-centered holistic approach (e.g., four-corner
model) which would include:
• Technique unopposed.
• Tactically, with exercises involving decision making and small-sided games.
• Physically, with small-sided games and/or 11-a-side play.
• Mentally, socially and emotionally with player conduct, interaction with others players, work ethic, commitment
and ability to meet the challenges within the game environment.
Selection Process
• After a minimum of three(3) trials during the evaluation period, the selection process begins:
• If the Tecumseh SC assessment staff require more time to evaluate a player, he/she will be notified
• If the Tecumseh SC assessment staff have evaluated a player at a minimum of three(3) trials and do not wish to
select a player, he/she will be notified
• If the Tecumseh SC wishes to add a player to the roster, he/she can be given a Player Commitment Letter at any
time
7. 2003 Boys OPDL
• October: Training Tuesday and either Friday/Sunday
• November: 2x per week training (on ball) + ?? Games
• December: Winter Rest beginning December 9, 2019
• January: 3x per week training (on ball) + 2 Winter Games
• February: 3x per week training (on ball) + 2 Winter
Games
• March: March Break Rest Period + 2 Winter Games
