History lessons should be banned.
Workgroup 9
Names: Kacper Piotrowski, Eva Panagiotidoy , Lía
Muñoz, Nelson Moreira, Jan Vranješ, Maria Mavridi
A: Affirmative Speech
Definition of the Topic: When we refer to History, we mean an umbrella term that relates to past events as well as the memory,
Discovery, collection, organization , presentation and interpretation of information about these events. Today's topic is about
Whether History should be banned from schools , meaning stopped.
1st Argument supporting the topic: Our first argument is that history lessons should be taught optional because not everyone
is going to use it in their future and in their career. People who don't like history, they find the lesson boring, useless
and waste of time.
Example supporting the topic: For example, students can use their time instead for some other activities they much prefer
for instance, study other subjects that they like and that they are more important for them .
Result: As a result, students waste their time trying to learn by heart a series of historical events that they will never use in their
daily life.
Conclusion: For this reason, history lessons should be banned.
B: Negative Speech
Rebuttal of the 1st Argument supporting the topic: As a team, we are inclined to believe that History is necessary for our future
And that is the reason it is one of the most important subjects because of what it can teach us.
1st Argument against the topic : Our first argument against this topic is that from History we can learn from our ancestor's
mistakes and their facts, It teaches us about important events that took place in the past. It is important because we should
know how our countries and people became what they are now.
1st Example against the topic: For instance, those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat the same mistakes as
people did in the past. Unfortunately, revisionist history is what being taught at school today.
Result: Consequently, History is important as a subject that can be used in our daily life, and it should be remembered .
Conclusion: For this reason, history lessons should continue
C: Affirmative Speech
Rebuttal of the first argument against the topic: We see what you mean, but for people who won't need history in their future
lives, there are more important subjects in school than learning about the past.
2nd Argument supporting the topic: Moving on to our second argument, we want to emphasize on the fact that
People quite often approach history with their own truth, through different angles.
The same historical event is presented in different perspectives in different Countries. Based on diverse stories,
people get an insight into different opinions about important historic events.
2nd Example supporting the topic: For instance, every school in different country teaches history in a different way and from
the most beneficial part of their story. And of course, this is not the right way to learn history.
Result: As a result, there are many conflicts and arguments between nations, misinformation and prejudiced views are spread
Conclusion: So, history lessons should be banned.
D: Negative Speech
Rebuttal of the 2st Argument supporting the topic: I see what you mean, but conflicts between people are not a reason for
history lessons to be banned.
2nd Argument against the topic: Our second argument against this topic is that we get to know ourselves and our roots, and get
Better understanding of our culture, a connection to our ancestors and give a better and more clear sense of right
and wrong at a young age.
2nd Example against the topic: A case in point is that by studying history we learn about examples of human nature and values
about our life and nation.
Result: In this way, history lesson becomes very interesting as you learn about the places you come from.
Conclusion: Therefore, history lessons should continue.

  • 1. History lessons should be banned. Workgroup 9 Names: Kacper Piotrowski, Eva Panagiotidoy , Lía Muñoz, Nelson Moreira, Jan Vranješ, Maria Mavridi
  • 2. A: Affirmative Speech Definition of the Topic: When we refer to History, we mean an umbrella term that relates to past events as well as the memory, Discovery, collection, organization , presentation and interpretation of information about these events. Today's topic is about Whether History should be banned from schools , meaning stopped. 1st Argument supporting the topic: Our first argument is that history lessons should be taught optional because not everyone is going to use it in their future and in their career. People who don't like history, they find the lesson boring, useless and waste of time. Example supporting the topic: For example, students can use their time instead for some other activities they much prefer for instance, study other subjects that they like and that they are more important for them . Result: As a result, students waste their time trying to learn by heart a series of historical events that they will never use in their daily life. Conclusion: For this reason, history lessons should be banned.
  • 3. B: Negative Speech Rebuttal of the 1st Argument supporting the topic: As a team, we are inclined to believe that History is necessary for our future And that is the reason it is one of the most important subjects because of what it can teach us. 1st Argument against the topic : Our first argument against this topic is that from History we can learn from our ancestor's mistakes and their facts, It teaches us about important events that took place in the past. It is important because we should know how our countries and people became what they are now. 1st Example against the topic: For instance, those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat the same mistakes as people did in the past. Unfortunately, revisionist history is what being taught at school today. Result: Consequently, History is important as a subject that can be used in our daily life, and it should be remembered . Conclusion: For this reason, history lessons should continue
  • 4. C: Affirmative Speech Rebuttal of the first argument against the topic: We see what you mean, but for people who won't need history in their future lives, there are more important subjects in school than learning about the past. 2nd Argument supporting the topic: Moving on to our second argument, we want to emphasize on the fact that People quite often approach history with their own truth, through different angles. The same historical event is presented in different perspectives in different Countries. Based on diverse stories, people get an insight into different opinions about important historic events. 2nd Example supporting the topic: For instance, every school in different country teaches history in a different way and from the most beneficial part of their story. And of course, this is not the right way to learn history. Result: As a result, there are many conflicts and arguments between nations, misinformation and prejudiced views are spread Conclusion: So, history lessons should be banned.
  • 5. D: Negative Speech Rebuttal of the 2st Argument supporting the topic: I see what you mean, but conflicts between people are not a reason for history lessons to be banned. 2nd Argument against the topic: Our second argument against this topic is that we get to know ourselves and our roots, and get Better understanding of our culture, a connection to our ancestors and give a better and more clear sense of right and wrong at a young age. 2nd Example against the topic: A case in point is that by studying history we learn about examples of human nature and values about our life and nation. Result: In this way, history lesson becomes very interesting as you learn about the places you come from. Conclusion: Therefore, history lessons should continue.
