1. University of Paris Founded in the mid 11th century Faculties Art, Medicine,Law, and Theology The Faculty of Arts was the lowest rank, but had had the biggest student population. Students had to graduate from the arts to be admitted into a higher faculty. Nations The students were divided into four nations according to their language or regional origin: France, Normandy, Picardy, and England . The German (Alemannian) nation was later added. The faculty and nation system eventually became the model for all medieval universities. Students Students often times rebelled against the laws and had to appeal to Church courts.
