1. The University of Paris Students The University of Paris initiative was aimed at promoting the cultural heritage of the Sorbonne with it main focus in disciplines in literacy and human sciences. This purpose was a top priority to the study civilization and to the continuance of strong teaching in the classic. La Sorbonne was originally created for the use of twenty theology students in 1257 as College de Sorbonne. However it quickly gained a reputation as a center for learning and by the 13th century there were twenty thousand students from all over Europe that attended the university lectures. Outcomes In the year of 1971 after the university reforms that was drawn up by Edgar Faure in 1968 the five faculties of the former University of Paris were divided and then reformed into thirteen interdisciplinary universities. Four of the new thirteen now share the premises of the Sorbonne which until that time had been only reserved to the Faculties of Arts and Human Sciences. The origin of these four universities has kept the Sorbonne reserved as a part of their official title. Teachers/Curriculum The first woman professor at the university was a polish chemist by the name of Marie Curie. Since then the La Sorbonne has become diverse and provides a wide range of academic choices for beginners and for those that are an intermediate, advanced level, graduate students and teachers of French. There are also intensive languages courses on all levels that are taught by excellent professor and instructors that are trained in teaching their own language to non native speakers Government Since its foundation, the University of Paris has been governed by five presidents; historian Alphonse Dupront the founding president, Raymond Polin and Hellenist Jacques Bompaire. Next the University of Paris was governed by Michel Meslin and Jean-Pierre Poussou, two historian of the urban and comptemporary world. In the year of May 1998 George Molinie, a modern French stylistic and specialist was elected and from May 2003 until March 2008 the president was geographer Jean-Robert Pitte.. Origin The University of Paris is known as one of the most famous and prominent universities throughout the world. It is one of the oldest universities in Europe. The University of Paris made its first appearance in the second half of the 12th century. It is often referred to as the Sorbonne or La Sorbonne following the collegiate institution (college de Sorbonne) foundation by Robert de Sorbon in the year of 1257 Faculty The University of Paris became the model for all later medieval universities and had four faculties (Arts , Medicine, Law and Theology). Enrollment The enrollment for the University of Paris calendar year consists of summer programs from the month of June until September. The programs last approximately four to fifteen weeks. There are also two academic years for the fall and winter semesters. Each of the courses requires regular attendance and final exams. At the end of the academic semester professors calculate the students exam scores, attendance, class participation and etc. Churches The president of Sorbonne, Cardinal Richelieu rebuilt the university in 1622 and in 1635 the Sorbonne Church began housing Richelieu’s tombs and Girardon sculpture of the cardinal.
