Argument
- often take the form of
statements that either
claims or facts and are
phrase in such way that
they seem reasonable.
Opinions
can be based on facts or
emotions and sometimes
they are meant to
deliberately mislead
others.
4. Opinion
An opinion is usually defined as a belief or view held by an
individual. It can be formed by or based upon virtually
anything, and an opinion is not necessarily based upon what is
true, accurate or informed.
An opinion is potentially changeable--depending on how the
evidence is interpreted. By themselves, opinions have little
power to convince.
5. Argument
To give an argument is to provide a set of premises as
reasons for accepting the conclusion.
Argument requires establishing credibility.
Arguments are claims backed by reasons that are
supported by evidence.
