My Trip To Sioux Falls
The summer of my junior year was a busy but memorable one. I met new people and made
memories I will not forget. I stayed busy by going to Sioux Falls for a friend's surgery, working, and
playing sports. On the second day of summer my friend Hannah had hip surgery. Macie Ferwerda
and I drove to Sioux Falls to be her moral support. Her surgery went well but after she woke up she
kept having seizures. We decided to go to her house in Avon to stay the night with her in case
something happened. Hannah could not walk very well so we had to help her get around her house.
Luckily she stopped having seizures when she got home. For most of the summer I worked. I
babysat a boy named Evan, who was eight. I took him to summer rec in the morning, then

Personal Narrative: Mount Rushmore In Sioux Falls
Reading about mount rushmore in school made me think how cool it would be to go and see it in
person! Get to actually be right there and seeing it so close. Not only seeing mount rushmore but
getting out of Iowa and being in a different land setting! It was thanksgiving we were all sitting
around taking when my aunt told us in the summer of 2016 we were going to take a trip to South
Dakota! We are going to be camping two different national parks for a whole week! She had all the
activities planned out before we even agreed to going! We hit the road at about 4 in the afternoon
both the cars parked full camping gear and food for the week in South Dakota. We make only one

Alarms went off at 7am to eat breakfast and go see the falls. The falls were the most prettiest water
fall i've seen in my life! Feeling the mist from the big falls hitting my face and giving me shivers
down my back! The boys had fun playing the water puddles and running and jumping all the big
rocks and getting to go out on the water. My favorite part was walking on the rocks and standing in
the water feeling the cold water rushing on my bare feet. We walked the falls for an hour before
getting back on the road to head to the Black Hills the first stop on our week long trip! It was about
a 6 hour drive from Sioux Falls to the Black Hills and about an hour or so drive to get to the national
park when we finally got through the checkpoint at the entrance it was another half hour or so to get
to where we were camping. After the long drive through twisting hills up mountains we got to
unpack the car till wednesday. Our first trip in the black hills was to mount rushmore! The drive to
mount rushmore took about another half hour. But when you are

The Sioux Tribe For Mineral Resources
Chapter7. This chapter''Wasichus in the Hill'' protrudes signs of envisioned trouble the people of
Soux tribe would encounter. It is also one of the longest chapters of the entire book that unveils the
subversion of the Sioux tribe for mineral resources (Gold) by the opposed extremists. Superficially,
Black Elk had thought he was set to manifest his vision from the grandfathers of the cloud, when he
attained the age of eleven, in the summer 1874. The black elk's band had camped on sphitton creek
in the black hill. Eventually, a night after sunset, thunder storm neighed from the west as if it was
going to rain; usually, swallow hovered around the sky and most kid camped in the black hill were
stoning on the arboreal, which Black elk describes the horrible outcome in a more precise manner.
Black elk says when he wanted to stone at one of the thunder swallows, he felt queered and his hand
hurts, then he remembered one of his visions from the grandfather, when the second grandfather
gave him an eagle wing and opined ''this is the eagle of the sky; you must be like a relative to the
birds.'' A day after, Black elk had realized that his people in the black hill were making a sweat
tepee, where the most sacred medicine, chip would purify himself before he relays his message from
the spiritual fathers/beings. Black elk had gone out with his fellow kids again, just to hunt for
squirrels; despite his past tragic experience at the birds hunt; Bravely, Black elk took his past

Great Bear Descriptive Writing
On a cold December day in 2014, I found myself snowboarding down the small and very icy hill of
Great Bear. On this chilly day there were very few people riding up the very bright red chair lift. As
the very few that were there went down the hill you could hear as skis or snowboards slice through
the thin layer of ice. From the Chair lift I can see everything on the hill and around the are.I was
carefully examining the hill and the area they call the " Terrain Park". Little did I know this day
would make the next few months very difficult. As I stare into this are marked as "most difficult" I
see all of the features I know that I can do very easily. I make very many quick runs up and down
the small hill of Great bear. I begin to notice new things that I had never attempted before. I begin to
think to myself that it may not be a good idea on a frigid day like it had been. As I begin to keep
coming back I knew that if I was going to try it that now would have to be the time. Thinking to
myself that if I were to fall that would mean I was working harder then I had before ... Show more

A voice in my head was telling me not to try it as it had been very slick. I slowly rode past it about
ten different times throughout the day. I had been very nervous to try new things throughout the year
but once I had tried some of the other things I had gotten very comfortable with this sport that I had
picked up a few years before. I then made my way halfway down the hill where the new rail was
that I was going to try. This had been called the "Propane tank" and was very large compared to the
other features in the terrain park. I made my way up the on ramp as I slowly begin to feel my self on
the very slippery surface. As I begin to ride along I begin to feel myself slide off the left side as I try
to get my board back onto the tank. Suddenly I begin to fall backward and my natural reaction made

The Importance Of Peaceful Resistance
Peaceful resistance is crucial to maintaining a free society because without it, our nation would
never have had or will have the chance to evolve and adapt to the changing times. As they wrote the
Constitution, our founding fathers were wise enough to make peaceful organization and protests an
inalienable right. Without resistance, America would not even be a nation, nor would it be one of the
most powerful. In many cases when individuals break the social construct it negatively affects the
rest of society, however it also occurs that there are laws in place that are not helping all citizens'
pursuit of our nation's three most important rights; life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. As a
nation, we can not recognize that laws are not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These protesters were demanding clean water, a basic human right. They were asking for the
pipeline to not directly travel right through a burial site that is hundreds of years old which
disrespects the Sioux Nation. The only way the issue became so big, was because there was peaceful
resistance against the Army Corps, who were fighting to put the pipeline in place, as well as the big
corporate media sources, who refused to cover the story. The story became known to the general
public only due to individuals sharing their experiences, thoughts, and videos on social media. The
irony of peaceful protesters exercising their inalienable first amendment while being attacked and
hurt is a disgrace to the Constitution. As families gathered together across the nation on November
24, 2016 to celebrate Thanksgiving, a national tradition that celebrates the historic truce between
Europeans and Native Americans, protesters in Standing Rock were being tear gassed for protecting
clean water and the reservation that the Sioux Nation was forced to confine to since the 19th
century. The laws that have been in place in our nation for centuries, as well as laws and treaties that
have been ignored, continue to allow normalized ongoing injustice and discrimination. Exactly for
these reasons, civil disobedience must occur for the public to realize there are problems in various
communities which call us to act on our

The Fall Sioux City Crash
The essay will be discussing about the failure of mankind due to inefficient engineering projects. It
will also explain , the major cause of each disaster and its effect on the surroundings.
The 1989 Sioux city crash :
Introduction:–
–"John Fielder 's "The 1989 Sioux City Crash" talks about the moral issues of a tail motor outline
and contrasts the DC – 10 and other flying machine . As in alternate mishaps , loss of the motor

United Airlines Flight 232 in Sioux City , Iowa , in which 111 individuals passed on . Inquiries have
again been raised about the sufficiency of assurance for the control frameworks in the DC – 10 . The
"National Transportation Safety Board Report on the 1989 Sioux City Crash" found that the reason
for the mischance was a metallurgical blemish in the fan gathering of the back motor. A split in the

Essay On Native Americans
Cayden Snow November 17, 2016
Contemporary Native American Issues Native American
There are hundreds of Native American reservations scattered across the United States of America,
and many of them are sacred burials and other important archeology sites from their ancestors. In
North Dakota, the Dakota Access Pipeline is now being built which will ruin many burial and sacred
sites of one of the local reservations near Bismarck. This pipeline will span from North Dakota to
Patoka, Illinois, polluting and poisoning large areas of lands. The pipeline is approximately 1,172–
mile, 30–inch diameter pipe. The pipeline will transport light sweet crude oil and reach major
refining markets. Approximately 470,000 barrels of oil will be transported per day. The Native
Americans from seven tribes of the Lakota (Sioux) nation and tribe of Idaho, Montana, Nebraska,
Oklahoma and Oregon and of the indigenous nations and dozens of other organizations are
preparing to stop the construction of this pipeline. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has had many of
their burial sites ruined as the pipe line construction workers removed one hundred feet by two miles
of top soil across the private lands of the tribe. One of the tribal preservation officers said that they
had allowed the pipe line owners to survey the area to the North, but in the process many of the
cairn burial rock formations have been ruined. This has outraged many of the people living in the
tribe. They have started

The Film Dances With Wolves
Spoken by Joseph Campbell, myths "support a certain social order and define humanity under any
circumstance." The film Dances With Wolves tells a fictional story that expresses those two
mythological functions through the journey of John Dunbar beginning as a United States soldier and
becoming a part of a Native American tribe, the Sioux. Through this transformation, the
mythological functions help define what it means to be a true human being. A true human being is
someone who has become so aware of the multitude of cultures and ideologies within the world that
they have the ability to recognize the greater good within them and be selfless in the decisions
surrounding that. A true human being only acts in an evil way when it is necessary ... Show more

This decision is selfless as well, he took that job willingly, saving someone else from being forced
out there.
Dunbar's progressing skill to discern the greater good can also be seen in the initial part of the
movie, even before he comes in contact with the Sioux tribe. The event of this was when Dunbar
arrives at Fort Sedgewick, the farthest outpost on the frontier, and he discovers that everyone who
was there has either died or fled. Instead of turning back, Dunbar stays at the fort by himself. While
he's there, he prepares the food and supplies for when more soldiers arrive. The fact that Dunbar
remains sane and continues to endeavor for the army while he's in solitary at the fort shows his
developing ability to perceive only the greater good. This experience shows his initial drive to be a
better human being than most others, which leads to his eventual identification as a true individual
because he already has that passion for being exceptional.
After a while of Dunbar living at Fort Sedgewick, he encounters a new companion. Two Socks, a
gray wolf, comes and visits Dunbar every day. Two Socks keeps his distance and is no threat to
Dunbar, who, instead of shooting on sight, only observes the wolf. Another person in that situation
most likely would have killed the wolf right away, but Dunbar even tries to feed and befriend Two
Socks, which shows how open–minded he is. These

Taking a Look at the Sioux Uprising
"Over the Earth I come." This is not a statement made in haste but a declaration of war, coming from
the mouth of a Sioux warrior, a Dakota. They call him Crooked Lightning. That was the first and
only true announcement about the planned uprising from the Dakota Nation. The Sioux Uprising of
1862 was appallingly deadly and destructive considering it may have been avoided if the United
States had paid the Sioux their gold on time. The Dakota Nation didn't just wake up one day and
decide to attack the settlers. They had been insulted, oppressed and cheated for years. Eventually,
the Sioux decided to stand up and take back their land. The Sioux were hunters, not farmers. When
the US decided to buy the Sioux's hunting grounds and give them ... Show more content on

It is bloody, terrifying, and chaotic. Blame is spread, forts are attacked, lives are changed, and
mostly, lives are taken. Lewis Peterson said "If the Sioux go to war, they won't spare those of us on
the outskirts." He was right, they didn't. When the Sioux Uprising started, people in the North began
to question the involvement of the rebels. The rebels feared the blame for the Sioux Uprising would
fall squarely on their shoulders. As a sign of their innocence, the rebels released some prisoners of
war so they could go back to Minnesota and fight the Sioux. That is how young Adam Sullivan was
reunited with his father. The Sioux were not strangers to warfare. They had numbers and fear on
their side. So over the earth they came, attacking everything and everyone in sight. As they went
from fort to fort, their rampage eventually landed on Fort Abercrombie. Fort Abercrombie was under
siege for six long weeks. The few soldiers and civilians somehow managed to fight the Sioux
warriors off. During that harrowing experience, Evan and Inga fell in love, but as it is with true love,
it was complicated. Inga was already married to a horrid man named Ingvald. As luck and karma
would have it, Ingvald died while the civilians moved from Fort Abercrombie to St. Cloud. Inga
married Evan soon after and had a baby who she named Gunnar Evan Jacobson. "It was almost as if

Analysis Of The Movie ' Sioux Falls '
When asked, most people could probably say what the scariest moment of their life was. Maybe it
was the time they went skydiving, or maybe it was when they were almost hit by a car, but mine is
when I had to drive in Sioux Falls for the first time. That seems silly, right? Driving isn't scary.
Maybe driving in itself isn't scary, but driving in Sioux Falls definitely is. Sioux Falls is a ginormous
city. The city is always bustling with cars and people trying to get to work, or an appointment, or
who knows where else. I'd never thought of Sioux Falls as a scary place, until I started driving, and
when I did, it was the scariest place I could imagine. I dreaded the thought of driving in Sioux Falls
immensely, and the idea was like a nightmare. Sadly, my worst nightmare eventually came true.
In the summer of 2013, my mother decided that I should take Drivers Ed. I was apprehensive at first
because I hadn't had much experience driving and I wasn't quite comfortable with it yet.
Nonetheless, I went to the classes and all was fine, until we had to drive in Sioux Falls. By that
point, I had some experience driving and I was even fairly decent at it. However, I had never driven
in Sioux Falls and I was anxious of hitting another car, turning when I wasn't supposed to, or any
number of situations that could go horribly wrong. That day, I dreaded going to Drivers Ed because I
was absolutely terrified of driving in Sioux Falls.
My mom dropped me off at the school, which was where I met

Obama Dakota Pipeline Case Study
Alec Benejam Sol Drescher, Ph.D ECON 2013 December 10th 2016 "Chief Obama and the Dakota
Pipeline: A Case Study in Why The US Doesn't Build more infrastructure" Alysia Finley Gordon
Rule Essay #3 Recently in news outlets we've come to hear more about the Dakota Access Pipeline.
As of December 6th, construction was halted, due to the numerous protest in the past couple of
months surrounding the approval of construction. Although alternate routes are currently being
studied, and construction has not taken place, Donald Trump (after the 20th of January when he
takes office) can freely reverse the decision, which would seem likely because according to
Financial Disclosure Forms, he once had around $500,000 invested in said (privately funded)
company. The opinion piece article "Chief Obama and the Dakota Pipeline: A Case Study in Why
The US Doesn't Build more infrastructure" written by Allysia Finley, was written on September of
2016, Three months before the halt. For those who don't know, an infrastructure is any man made

ecological understanding of the possible negative outcomes this project could have, not just
monetarily wise. Her anti–Obama, anti–democratic attack just comes off as immature, and did

Proposal Argument
Standing with Standing Rock
Citizens of the U.S. must petition and call public officials to urge the Obama administration to
declare Standing Rock Indian Reservation a National Monument, thereby halting the development
of the Dakota Access Pipeline, to accomplish the following priorities: prevent the contamination of a
vital U.S. water source and its surrounding ecosystems, stop the human rights violations and abuse
at Standing Rock, and avert the desecration of sacred native burial grounds. Stopping the pipeline
would additionally benefit the planet and all its inhabitants by assisting the transition away from
reliance on fossil fuels, and toward more sustainable energy sources, a vital ... Show more content

Another possible solution to the harmful consequences I've outlined is organizing a group of
military veterans to camp at the reservation, and stand with the protesters in defiance of the
construction. This act by a group of national heroes would garner both worldwide attention, and
political support. Over 2,000 veterans are already organized and poised to arrive at the several
encampments, and historic and symbolic act of reverence to the Sioux Nation is unprecedented.
Perhaps this act in conjunction with the National Monument Status would have the most impact, and
could give so much press to the issue of the pipeline that the project could be halted

College Faith : Sioux Falls
College Faith Sioux Falls is one of the most rapidly growing cities in the United States. The two
main things that attract the public are the numerous jobs, and the main two colleges in town. The
schools are named USF and Augustana, and they are both Christian based institutions. With that
being said, a lot of students that attend are of some sort of religion. One of the main religions in the
area is Catholicism, and there are many different Catholic Churches around town. Each Church
offers great opportunities to get involved with the parish. There is Sunday School for children, youth
group for K–12, and Bible Study groups for men and women. One age group that gets left out is the
college students or young adults. Making a group for college students would help them get familiar
with the new Churches and it would help them meet other people and be a part of the community.
Holy Spirit Parish is one of the biggest Catholic Churches in town and has grown as a community
since it was opened in 2004. Growing up in this Church was so immense because it truly felt like a
second home to me. I was so involved with the Church at such a young age, being apart and helping
at so many different things. Different activities included being a part youth group, volunteer work,
and going to elementary school in the same building as the Church. As for my parents, they
participated in Guys Group, Womens Group, Bible Study Groups, and various committees. The

be a need of a lot of bibles and highlighters to study scripture. The other materials that will be

Black Elk And Black Deer
At the beginning of Black Elk Speaks, Black Elk and John Neihardt smoke the peace pipe then
Black Elk begins his story. When Black Elk was still pretty young he and his tribe were involved in
the Hundred slain war, and Black Elk also begins to hear strange voices. Later on Black Elk falls
very ill, then two warriors come from the sky and bring Black Elk to the Flaming rainbow tepee,
while he was there his six grandfathers gave him six very special gifts. After Black Elk got the gifts
he was taught the horse dance, when Black Elk returned from his vision he went to see his cousin
Crazy horse, later on Crazy Horse would be murdered by being stabbed in the back by a soldier. By
this time most of the indians were forced to live on the reservations but one band of Lakotas escaped
from the reservation and traveled north to Canada where Sitting Bull's band was. The winters in
Canada were too harsh for the Sioux so they reluctantly moved back to the reservation where they
were given hardly anything. With Black Elk's people losing hope he teaches them the dances he
learned in his visions. When Black Elk learns of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show he decides to go
with him, after a few months doing shows in America Black Elk went to England. When the Lakotas
were camped on Wounded Knee Creek, the wasichus came and murdered everyone in the camp
including the women and children. After the battle the remaining Lakota surrendered they went to
the reservation and the flowering tree dies. The

on the plane I was sitting next to a very nice lady while I was doing my homework.
"Do you need to turn on the lights?" she asked.
"No I'm okay," I replied. "Thank you though." We went on with the rest of our plane ride. Before
landing our pilot did a little overview of the ocean and Florida, even though we couldn't see, the

Black Elk Is A Native American Spiritual Leader Of The...
Black Elk Speaks is a translated Autobiography of a verbal account from Nicholas Black Elk, who
was a Native American spiritual leader of the Lakota tribe during the period of westward expansion
by the United States. His account reveals to the audience many different aspects of life for the
Lakota people during the turbulent transition from their traditional nomadic tribal to a reservation
culture. Through Black Elk's life story, there are a plethora of small hints and glimpses of their
world, in how it functions and how their culture governs the choices that they make in their lives.
The best example that Black Elk provides the audience with, is the vision that he describes in
Chapter 3, "The Great Vision" (17–36). This Vision occurs when Black Elk is a young person of the
age of nine. The events preceding the vision describes his life of that time, until he seems to fall
severely ill from some unknown disease, to the point that he requires the assistance of a pony drag
in order to remain with the tribe as they travel from location to location. In this state he is given a
vision from the forces that control the world. Various images, figures and forces lead Black Elk
along a journey of discovery, where the fate of his life, the Lakota people and gifts are presented to
him. This great vision remains the driving force behind Black Elk's life for the remainder of the
book.
The question arises; What makes this vision so important for Black Elk and the narrative of the
book?

Personal Narrative: My Summer Program At The Pentagon In...
This last Summer I was invited to play at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls for one of their summer AA
basketball teams. Since the Pentagon is such a large program, I was completely on board, and
excited for the season to commence. First, I had a unique way of joining the team, second, I had
high expectations, and last, what actually happened varied in numerous ways.
How I became a member of the program was different from the majority's initiations. One night just
before basketball season was over, I arrived home especially late from work, and when I arrived, my
mother, Stacy, said she wished to talk to my father, Leo, and I about something. My mother
informed us that she had gone to Top 10 to buy some clothes, and Cody Bertram asked her if we had

and he struggled dealing with the schedules as well as getting us information. Once my coach even

I was nearly late. We were supposed to have 22 practices minimum before the summer was over.
Our team, however, only had 8 due to conflicting schedules. The tournaments we went to were
decent sized, but not as large as I had thought. The majority were in Sioux Falls. Our biggest
tournament in Kansas City was cancelled. Even with all of these letdowns, I still appreciated the
experience, and I believe it will be improved next year since they are cutting down the number of

My Social Life Over My Academic Life
While growing up, doing well in school always came naturally to me. I took every Advanced
Placement class my high school offered and still graduated with a 3.85 GPA. Unfortunately, after
high school, I learned that my methods in high school no longer worked as well in college. In 2007,
I enrolled at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. Augustana is a small, private university, and I
learned plenty of academic, as well as life, lessons while attending. My grades at Augustana dropped
slightly at first compared to what they were in high school. I finally realized that studying would be
necessary; however I allowed myself to fall into the same trap as many other new students, and I
chose to prioritize my social life over my academic life. After five semesters at Augustana, I realized

the previous reasons). Alcohol became more than just a social lubricant. Though alcohol kept me

March 29, 1998 was just another typical day for headline news in Sioux Falls. The Argus Leader
was filled with your everyday politics, sports, entertainment, weather, and life news. Eight inmates
serving life sentence in the South Dakota State Penitentiary met to discuss better living conditions
for all prisoners (Steen). On a more positive note, the annual Sioux Empire water festival was held
at the University of Sioux Falls. Around 2,200 fourth graders, from surrounding communities,
gather to learn more about the abundance of their natural resources, and how to preserve them.
Thirty booths were set up at the site displaying how to make snow, how to snorkel, and how to make
bubbles the size of humans (Olson). As far as youth sports, nothing was more popular than the tri–
state basketball tournament held every year in Sioux Falls. The event attracted over 2,900 athletes as
well 289 teams ("Tri–State Crowns 30 Champions 5C"). While these events happened in our area
more headline news caught the eye of South Dakota citizens. Senator Tom Daschle proposed a bill
that had the potential to lead to the development of more wetlands in South Dakota. The bill offered
tax credits to farmers who preserved wetlands not enrolled in the Conservation reserve program or
wetland reserve program (Olson). With the Winter of 1997–1998 being so short schools, banks, city
crews, and churches were able to catch up on their budgets. Schools didn 't have to call off any days,

Essay about Review over the Paradox of Sitting Bull
In the late 1800's the Americans viciously forced many Native Americans off their lands all because
the federal government wanted the U.S. to expand and obtain Manifest Destiny. The main Native
American and tribe that stood against the federal government was Sitting Bull, Chief of the Sioux
and entire Lakota nation. He led a large amount of Sioux warriors in many battles against the
American government that were fought over the rights and lands of the Lakota nation. He was
against the American government and the forceful ways that they took over Indian lands, and
therefore he used his strong, spiritual leadership abilities to battle against the American government
as well as the U.S army. The author of the biography Sitting Bull and the ... Show more content on

Colonel Harney and his men then marched to Little Thunder's camp and surprised the entire camp
forcing Little Thunder to surrender 250 of his warriors and men. Even though the camp had
surrendered Colonel Harney went back into the camp and killed 86 Sioux, 70 of which were women
and children. One of the effects that came from this and Harney's campaign in 1855 was that he
forced the Sioux to sign yet another treaty. This treaty stated that the Sioux tribe would have to
surrender all stolen lands as well as surrendering any man that is found guilty of killing a white man.
3) (a) Describe the events leading up to the signing of the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868. (b) What did
the treaty stipulate? (c) Did the Lakotas fully understand its provisions?
(a) A tribe called Red Cloud that is a branch of the Lakotas that continued to attack the lands outside
their tribal territory. They attacked wagons and stole all the supplies that they could. This triggered a
response by the American army, and Colonel Henry B. Carrington led the men that would eventually
stop these attacks. With Colonel Carrington leading the attack he ordered Captain William J.
Fetterman to acquire the stolen items that were stolen by the tribe. Captain Fetterman, however, felt
that he could defeat all Sioux men with a small militia by attacking the Indians in what would be

Sitting Bull was great leader and a great warrior. He was recognized for many things including the

Sitting Bull mourned them for a long period of time. He did absolutely nothing all summer. He
became better as time went by. Later that fall, Sitting Bull and other Indians went horse stealing and
came across a family of a mom and children. The others killed all of the family except one boy.
Sitting Bull saved that one boy and adopted him. His name was Kills–Often. He was named for his
superb hunting skills (Black, 21–25).
Sitting Bull had many jobs to do as the chief of his tribe. One of his careers was to be the Sash
Wearer, the leader of a group called the Strong Hearts. The Strong Hearts were a group of Sioux
chiefs. They were in charge of the safety of the Sioux. (Black, 26) Later in his life he went on tour
with Buffalo Bill on the Wild West show. He enjoyed it but he got homesick and went back to South
Dakota to be with his family. (Black, 115)
Sitting Bull was never given an actual award. After his death he was considered one of the greatest
leaders in American history. He is also known for his many hunting and wilderness skills. Many
people believe he was the last Native American to surrender to the settlers.
After the treaty was signed to give up all their land, Sitting Bull went to be with his family. (Black,

"To own the Earth, There is no word for this in the Sioux Language." The Battle of Wounded Knee

either side had seen. An estimated three hundred Indians lay dead while the US army had lost twenty

the Americans have ever done to the Native Americans. One Native American stated later "it was as

Crazy Horse
The European settlement of North America met its fiercest opponent, the Lakota also known as the
Western Sioux, who inhabited most of the Great Plains. The Oglala tribe, a branch of the Sioux
nation were key in the resistance against the white man. At the heart of their resistance stood crazy

same people wearied of war and in some cases, turned against him. Chief Crazy Horse led an

with the mightiest of all pens. In the United States, we the people have witnessed the first hand
destruction of such battles that were and are still currently being fought on our home front.

This act served to encourage the citizens of the United States to pursue the course of westward
expansion and permanently settle the land on the other side of the Mississippi River basin, the land
that was "acquired" by the government from the Native Americans. In accepting the government's
offer to make way into the western frontier, each man would receive 160 acres of "public land" to

result of the Indian Removal Act and caused the development of new problem for the United States

Black Elk Speaks
Throughout American history, there have been unrelenting efforts to force Native American peoples
to surrender their tribal existence, national sovereignty, land ownership, tribal land relations, and
indigenous tribal religions by turning to western ideals of the Christian religion. Black Elk Speaks
by John G. Neihardt is a literary text of considerable significance especially on American culture
and religion that tries to examine how Native Americans reconcile their sentiments regarding these
unrelenting forces. The book's main character, Black Elk, a Lakota holy man who is raised in the
Lakota Sioux nation's Oglala band, uses his visions to prescribe solutions for his people. He
witnesses various events that shape his life such as the massacre at Wounded Knee and the Ghost
Dance. Black Elk is an uncharacteristic member of the Sioux nation, particularly due to his youthful
visions and final emergence as the Sioux medicine man with healing and prophetic powers. His
great experiences give a deep insight into how the Sioux related with nature. By the time Black Elk
is interviewed by John Neihhardt, he is in the twilight years of his life. He is risking a lot by
revealing some sacred details about his life to a white man. However, he feels compelled so that he
can preserve his sacred visions and thinking for posterity. He uses detailed symbolism as well as
instructions passed down

The Effects Of Americans On Indian Life
One cannot examine U.S. history without looking at the interactions between Native Americans and
Americans. From colonization to industrialization, conflicts between these groups have always been
prevalent. Indians have been stripped of their land, heritage and status. Our guns, germ and culture
have killed them. One can see this power struggle in many pieces of literature. Two being, "Crazy
Horse: A Life", a secondary source focusing on a Sioux warrior Crazy Horse and the Plains peoples,
and "Indian Trader John Lawson's Journal of Carolina 1709," a primary source that describes an
English merchant's encounter with Indians in Carolina. This paper will focus on the effects of
Americans on Indian life.
"Crazy Horse: A Life" is a secondary source of information that tells the story of Sioux leader Crazy
Horse and his tribe. As Whites invade their land for gold Crazy Horse has to find a way to keep his
home. Throughout the source, Larry McMurtry, with little evidence, draws up the rise and fall of
Crazy Horse. From early on it was evident of the whites' were moving into the Plains peoples
settlements, The author wrote, "...at first the pressure of white intrusion may have been subtle but
and slight but it was present, and would be present throughout his entire life..." the Sioux people and
others way of life was dying because of the settlements of white people on their land. Their
settlements cause the game to leave the area, which in turn hurt the hunters of the tribe. With these

The film, Dances with Wolves, staring Kevin Costner gives a historically accurate presentation of
the Sioux Indians and their way of life. In this production, Lieutenant John Dunbar, played by
Costner, is rewarded for his heroic actions in the Civil War by being offered an opportunity to see

Dunbar to communicate and substantial progress was made between the two. Dunbar then came to
the conclusion that the Indians were not just beggars and thieves, but he actually enjoyed their

Early one morning, Dunbar felt what seemed to be an earthquake. He ran outside to see hundreds of
thousands of buffalo stampeding past the fort. Dunbar then jumped on his horse and rode to the
Sioux village to inform them of the good news. Although he wasn't welcomed warmly, when the
Sioux realized what Dunbar was telling them another celebration broke out. From that moment,
Dunbar felt as a celebrity among the Indians and the majority of them accepted him. Dunbar
participated in the buffalo hunt and saved the life of a young Sioux boy by killing a buffalo that was
charging towards him. That evening, Dunbar took the some of the first steps to becoming one of the

celebration of a successful buffalo hunt. Dunbar no longer saw these men as savages but quite the
opposite. The Sioux were a civilized tribe that loved nature and family, as well as acted on carefully

Discrimination In Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn
Discrimination was a huge conflict during the 19th century. Minority groups were largely thought of
as less than their white counterparts (Bagwell "Columbus and the Indians"). They were not
respected or treated as equals. During the 19th century White society viewed minority groups as
inferior, but shared experiences between White individuals and minority groups was a step towards
Whites realize that minorities were equal. During the 19th century White society believed that
minority groups were inferior to them (Bagwell "Justifying Slavery"). They believed that if you
didn't have the same skin color or were considered "uncivilized" you were inferior (Bagwell
"Justifying Slavery). Both African Americans and Native Americans were enslaved and
discriminated against by Whites (Bagwell). Statements such as "child–like people in need of
protection" and "need to bring them to Christianity" passed as justifiable statements for their
enslavement (Bagwell "Justifying Slavery"). White society perceived minority groups as
intellectually and socially below Whites (). While many Whites went to their graves believing this
narrative, some individuals were able to share experiences with these minority groups. This allowed
their perceptions on minority groups to change. In the book Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by
Mark Twin, Huck Finn, a poor boy from Illinois, is put on a raft with a African American servant

The first step to improving soccer in Sioux Falls is to better the level of competitive play. This can
be done specifically through Dakota Alliance Soccer Club by fixing technical issues. Practice times,
indoor facilities, and coaching are three technical fixes that need to be addressed in order to improve
Dakota Alliance Soccer Club (DASC). If all three of these issues can see improvement, then DASC
will also see improvements and more success. Practice Times
Finding practice times that work for both athletes and parents is very important. For example, when
I was a member of DASC there were times during the winter that my team and I wouldn't begin
practice until 9:30 pm or 10:00 pm. This was an issue to many because people would miss practice
due to school being the next morning. Because there was not full participation from the team at
practice, we were never able to take that next step to become better. Practice times need to be

My Trip To Sioux Falls

  • 1. My Trip To Sioux Falls The summer of my junior year was a busy but memorable one. I met new people and made memories I will not forget. I stayed busy by going to Sioux Falls for a friend's surgery, working, and playing sports. On the second day of summer my friend Hannah had hip surgery. Macie Ferwerda and I drove to Sioux Falls to be her moral support. Her surgery went well but after she woke up she kept having seizures. We decided to go to her house in Avon to stay the night with her in case something happened. Hannah could not walk very well so we had to help her get around her house. Luckily she stopped having seizures when she got home. For most of the summer I worked. I babysat a boy named Evan, who was eight. I took him to summer rec in the morning, then ... • 3. Personal Narrative: Mount Rushmore In Sioux Falls Reading about mount rushmore in school made me think how cool it would be to go and see it in person! Get to actually be right there and seeing it so close. Not only seeing mount rushmore but getting out of Iowa and being in a different land setting! It was thanksgiving we were all sitting around taking when my aunt told us in the summer of 2016 we were going to take a trip to South Dakota! We are going to be camping two different national parks for a whole week! She had all the activities planned out before we even agreed to going! We hit the road at about 4 in the afternoon both the cars parked full camping gear and food for the week in South Dakota. We make only one stop the whole Hours we drove to Sioux Falls, SD. we arrived in Sioux Falls at about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alarms went off at 7am to eat breakfast and go see the falls. The falls were the most prettiest water fall i've seen in my life! Feeling the mist from the big falls hitting my face and giving me shivers down my back! The boys had fun playing the water puddles and running and jumping all the big rocks and getting to go out on the water. My favorite part was walking on the rocks and standing in the water feeling the cold water rushing on my bare feet. We walked the falls for an hour before getting back on the road to head to the Black Hills the first stop on our week long trip! It was about a 6 hour drive from Sioux Falls to the Black Hills and about an hour or so drive to get to the national park when we finally got through the checkpoint at the entrance it was another half hour or so to get to where we were camping. After the long drive through twisting hills up mountains we got to unpack the car till wednesday. Our first trip in the black hills was to mount rushmore! The drive to mount rushmore took about another half hour. But when you are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Sioux Tribe For Mineral Resources Chapter7. This chapter''Wasichus in the Hill'' protrudes signs of envisioned trouble the people of Soux tribe would encounter. It is also one of the longest chapters of the entire book that unveils the subversion of the Sioux tribe for mineral resources (Gold) by the opposed extremists. Superficially, Black Elk had thought he was set to manifest his vision from the grandfathers of the cloud, when he attained the age of eleven, in the summer 1874. The black elk's band had camped on sphitton creek in the black hill. Eventually, a night after sunset, thunder storm neighed from the west as if it was going to rain; usually, swallow hovered around the sky and most kid camped in the black hill were stoning on the arboreal, which Black elk describes the horrible outcome in a more precise manner. Black elk says when he wanted to stone at one of the thunder swallows, he felt queered and his hand hurts, then he remembered one of his visions from the grandfather, when the second grandfather gave him an eagle wing and opined ''this is the eagle of the sky; you must be like a relative to the birds.'' A day after, Black elk had realized that his people in the black hill were making a sweat tepee, where the most sacred medicine, chip would purify himself before he relays his message from the spiritual fathers/beings. Black elk had gone out with his fellow kids again, just to hunt for squirrels; despite his past tragic experience at the birds hunt; Bravely, Black elk took his past ... • 7. Great Bear Descriptive Writing On a cold December day in 2014, I found myself snowboarding down the small and very icy hill of Great Bear. On this chilly day there were very few people riding up the very bright red chair lift. As the very few that were there went down the hill you could hear as skis or snowboards slice through the thin layer of ice. From the Chair lift I can see everything on the hill and around the are.I was carefully examining the hill and the area they call the " Terrain Park". Little did I know this day would make the next few months very difficult. As I stare into this are marked as "most difficult" I see all of the features I know that I can do very easily. I make very many quick runs up and down the small hill of Great bear. I begin to notice new things that I had never attempted before. I begin to think to myself that it may not be a good idea on a frigid day like it had been. As I begin to keep coming back I knew that if I was going to try it that now would have to be the time. A voice in my head was telling me not to try it as it had been very slick. I slowly rode past it about ten different times throughout the day. I had been very nervous to try new things throughout the year but once I had tried some of the other things I had gotten very comfortable with this sport that I had picked up a few years before. I then made my way halfway down the hill where the new rail was that I was going to try. This had been called the "Propane tank" and was very large compared to the other features in the terrain park. I made my way up the on ramp as I slowly begin to feel my self on the very slippery surface. As I begin to ride along I begin to feel myself slide off the left side as I try to get my board back onto the tank. • 9. The Importance Of Peaceful Resistance Peaceful resistance is crucial to maintaining a free society because without it, our nation would never have had or will have the chance to evolve and adapt to the changing times. As they wrote the Constitution, our founding fathers were wise enough to make peaceful organization and protests an inalienable right. Without resistance, America would not even be a nation, nor would it be one of the most powerful. In many cases when individuals break the social construct it negatively affects the rest of society, however it also occurs that there are laws in place that are not helping all citizens' pursuit of our nation's three most important rights; life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. As a nation, we can not recognize that laws are not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These protesters were demanding clean water, a basic human right. They were asking for the pipeline to not directly travel right through a burial site that is hundreds of years old which disrespects the Sioux Nation. The only way the issue became so big, was because there was peaceful resistance against the Army Corps, who were fighting to put the pipeline in place, as well as the big corporate media sources, who refused to cover the story. The story became known to the general public only due to individuals sharing their experiences, thoughts, and videos on social media. The irony of peaceful protesters exercising their inalienable first amendment while being attacked and hurt is a disgrace to the Constitution. As families gathered together across the nation on November 24, 2016 to celebrate Thanksgiving, a national tradition that celebrates the historic truce between Europeans and Native Americans, protesters in Standing Rock were being tear gassed for protecting clean water and the reservation that the Sioux Nation was forced to confine to since the 19th century. The laws that have been in place in our nation for centuries, as well as laws and treaties that have been ignored, continue to allow normalized ongoing injustice and discrimination. Exactly for these reasons, civil disobedience must occur for the public to realize there are problems in various communities which call us to act on our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The 1989 Sioux city crash : Introduction:– –"John Fielder 's "The 1989 Sioux City Crash" talks about the moral issues of a tail motor outline and contrasts the DC – 10 and other flying machine . As in alternate mishaps , loss of the motor ought not have brought about loss of the airplane however , as in alternate mischances , consequent harm to the DC – 10 's control framework prompted the accident." Inquiries have again been raised about the sufficiency of assurance for the control frameworks in the DC – 10 . The "National Transportation Safety Board Report on the 1989 Sioux City Crash" found that the reason for the mischance was a metallurgical blemish in the fan gathering of the back motor. A split in the 370 – pound fan plate began from the defect and in the end made it crumble . • 13. Essay On Native Americans Cayden Snow November 17, 2016 Contemporary Native American Issues Native American There are hundreds of Native American reservations scattered across the United States of America, and many of them are sacred burials and other important archeology sites from their ancestors. In North Dakota, the Dakota Access Pipeline is now being built which will ruin many burial and sacred sites of one of the local reservations near Bismarck. This pipeline will span from North Dakota to Patoka, Illinois, polluting and poisoning large areas of lands. The pipeline is approximately 1,172– mile, 30–inch diameter pipe. The pipeline will transport light sweet crude oil and reach major refining markets. Approximately 470,000 barrels of oil will be transported per day. The Native Americans from seven tribes of the Lakota (Sioux) nation and tribe of Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Oregon and of the indigenous nations and dozens of other organizations are preparing to stop the construction of this pipeline. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe has had many of their burial sites ruined as the pipe line construction workers removed one hundred feet by two miles of top soil across the private lands of the tribe. One of the tribal preservation officers said that they had allowed the pipe line owners to survey the area to the North, but in the process many of the cairn burial rock formations have been ruined. This has outraged many of the people living in the tribe. They have started ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Film Dances With Wolves Spoken by Joseph Campbell, myths "support a certain social order and define humanity under any circumstance." The film Dances With Wolves tells a fictional story that expresses those two mythological functions through the journey of John Dunbar beginning as a United States soldier and becoming a part of a Native American tribe, the Sioux. Through this transformation, the mythological functions help define what it means to be a true human being. A true human being is someone who has become so aware of the multitude of cultures and ideologies within the world that they have the ability to recognize the greater good within them and be selfless in the decisions surrounding that. A true human being only acts in an evil way when it is necessary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This decision is selfless as well, he took that job willingly, saving someone else from being forced out there. Dunbar's progressing skill to discern the greater good can also be seen in the initial part of the movie, even before he comes in contact with the Sioux tribe. The event of this was when Dunbar arrives at Fort Sedgewick, the farthest outpost on the frontier, and he discovers that everyone who was there has either died or fled. Instead of turning back, Dunbar stays at the fort by himself. While he's there, he prepares the food and supplies for when more soldiers arrive. The fact that Dunbar remains sane and continues to endeavor for the army while he's in solitary at the fort shows his developing ability to perceive only the greater good. This experience shows his initial drive to be a better human being than most others, which leads to his eventual identification as a true individual because he already has that passion for being exceptional. After a while of Dunbar living at Fort Sedgewick, he encounters a new companion. Two Socks, a gray wolf, comes and visits Dunbar every day. Two Socks keeps his distance and is no threat to Dunbar, who, instead of shooting on sight, only observes the wolf. Another person in that situation most likely would have killed the wolf right away, but Dunbar even tries to feed and befriend Two Socks, which shows how open–minded he is. These ... • 17. Taking a Look at the Sioux Uprising "Over the Earth I come." This is not a statement made in haste but a declaration of war, coming from the mouth of a Sioux warrior, a Dakota. They call him Crooked Lightning. That was the first and only true announcement about the planned uprising from the Dakota Nation. The Sioux Uprising of 1862 was appallingly deadly and destructive considering it may have been avoided if the United States had paid the Sioux their gold on time. The Dakota Nation didn't just wake up one day and decide to attack the settlers. They had been insulted, oppressed and cheated for years. Eventually, the Sioux decided to stand up and take back their land. The Sioux were hunters, not farmers. When the US decided to buy the Sioux's hunting grounds and give them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is bloody, terrifying, and chaotic. Blame is spread, forts are attacked, lives are changed, and mostly, lives are taken. Lewis Peterson said "If the Sioux go to war, they won't spare those of us on the outskirts." He was right, they didn't. When the Sioux Uprising started, people in the North began to question the involvement of the rebels. The rebels feared the blame for the Sioux Uprising would fall squarely on their shoulders. As a sign of their innocence, the rebels released some prisoners of war so they could go back to Minnesota and fight the Sioux. That is how young Adam Sullivan was reunited with his father. The Sioux were not strangers to warfare. They had numbers and fear on their side. So over the earth they came, attacking everything and everyone in sight. As they went from fort to fort, their rampage eventually landed on Fort Abercrombie. Fort Abercrombie was under siege for six long weeks. The few soldiers and civilians somehow managed to fight the Sioux warriors off. During that harrowing experience, Evan and Inga fell in love, but as it is with true love, it was complicated. Inga was already married to a horrid man named Ingvald. As luck and karma would have it, Ingvald died while the civilians moved from Fort Abercrombie to St. Cloud. • 19. Analysis Of The Movie ' Sioux Falls ' When asked, most people could probably say what the scariest moment of their life was. Maybe it was the time they went skydiving, or maybe it was when they were almost hit by a car, but mine is when I had to drive in Sioux Falls for the first time. That seems silly, right? Driving isn't scary. Maybe driving in itself isn't scary, but driving in Sioux Falls definitely is. Sioux Falls is a ginormous city. The city is always bustling with cars and people trying to get to work, or an appointment, or who knows where else. I'd never thought of Sioux Falls as a scary place, until I started driving, and when I did, it was the scariest place I could imagine. I dreaded the thought of driving in Sioux Falls immensely, and the idea was like a nightmare. Sadly, my worst nightmare eventually came true. In the summer of 2013, my mother decided that I should take Drivers Ed. I was apprehensive at first because I hadn't had much experience driving and I wasn't quite comfortable with it yet. Nonetheless, I went to the classes and all was fine, until we had to drive in Sioux Falls. By that point, I had some experience driving and I was even fairly decent at it. However, I had never driven in Sioux Falls and I was anxious of hitting another car, turning when I wasn't supposed to, or any number of situations that could go horribly wrong. That day, I dreaded going to Drivers Ed because I was absolutely terrified of driving in Sioux Falls. My mom dropped me off at the school, which was where I met ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Obama Dakota Pipeline Case Study Alec Benejam Sol Drescher, Ph.D ECON 2013 December 10th 2016 "Chief Obama and the Dakota Pipeline: A Case Study in Why The US Doesn't Build more infrastructure" Alysia Finley Gordon Rule Essay #3 Recently in news outlets we've come to hear more about the Dakota Access Pipeline. As of December 6th, construction was halted, due to the numerous protest in the past couple of months surrounding the approval of construction. Although alternate routes are currently being studied, and construction has not taken place, Donald Trump (after the 20th of January when he takes office) can freely reverse the decision, which would seem likely because according to Financial Disclosure Forms, he once had around $500,000 invested in said (privately funded) company. The opinion piece article "Chief Obama and the Dakota Pipeline: A Case Study in Why The US Doesn't Build more infrastructure" written by Allysia Finley, was written on September of 2016, Three months before the halt. When Black Elk was still pretty young he and his tribe were involved in the Hundred slain war, and Black Elk also begins to hear strange voices. Later on Black Elk falls very ill, then two warriors come from the sky and bring Black Elk to the Flaming rainbow tepee, while he was there his six grandfathers gave him six very special gifts. After Black Elk got the gifts he was taught the horse dance, when Black Elk returned from his vision he went to see his cousin Crazy horse, later on Crazy Horse would be murdered by being stabbed in the back by a soldier. By this time most of the indians were forced to live on the reservations but one band of Lakotas escaped from the reservation and traveled north to Canada where Sitting Bull's band was. The winters in Canada were too harsh for the Sioux so they reluctantly moved back to the reservation where they were given hardly anything. With Black Elk's people losing hope he teaches them the dances he learned in his visions. When Black Elk learns of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show he decides to go with him, after a few months doing shows in America Black Elk went to England. • 36. Black Elk Is A Native American Spiritual Leader Of The... Black Elk Speaks is a translated Autobiography of a verbal account from Nicholas Black Elk, who was a Native American spiritual leader of the Lakota tribe during the period of westward expansion by the United States. His account reveals to the audience many different aspects of life for the Lakota people during the turbulent transition from their traditional nomadic tribal to a reservation culture. Through Black Elk's life story, there are a plethora of small hints and glimpses of their world, in how it functions and how their culture governs the choices that they make in their lives. The best example that Black Elk provides the audience with, is the vision that he describes in Chapter 3, "The Great Vision" (17–36). This Vision occurs when Black Elk is a young person of the age of nine. The events preceding the vision describes his life of that time, until he seems to fall severely ill from some unknown disease, to the point that he requires the assistance of a pony drag in order to remain with the tribe as they travel from location to location. In this state he is given a vision from the forces that control the world. Various images, figures and forces lead Black Elk along a journey of discovery, where the fate of his life, the Lakota people and gifts are presented to him. This great vision remains the driving force behind Black Elk's life for the remainder of the book. The question arises; What makes this vision so important for Black Elk and the narrative of the book? ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I took every Advanced Placement class my high school offered and still graduated with a 3.85 GPA. Unfortunately, after high school, I learned that my methods in high school no longer worked as well in college. In 2007, I enrolled at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD. Augustana is a small, private university, and I learned plenty of academic, as well as life, lessons while attending. My grades at Augustana dropped slightly at first compared to what they were in high school. I finally realized that studying would be necessary; however I allowed myself to fall into the same trap as many other new students, and I chose to prioritize my social life over my academic life. After five semesters at Augustana, I realized two things. First of all, I decided I would need to fix my priorities, and, second, I figured out how expensive that private school actually was. Plagued by the idea that I had already ruined my life with my decision thus far, my thoughts careened out of control. Immediately following the winter semester of 2009, I transferred to Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN. I had hoped a new start would help, but as time went on, the thoughts worsened (with additional causes supplementing the previous reasons). Alcohol became more than just a social lubricant. Analysis Of The Book ' Black Elk ' Benjamin Duong Dr. Padma Manian History 24 American Indian History 3/19/2016 Black Elk Speaks Throughout American history, there have been unrelenting efforts to force Native American peoples to surrender their tribal existence, national sovereignty, land ownership, tribal land relations, and indigenous tribal religions by turning to western ideals of the Christian religion. Black Elk Speaks by John G. Neihardt is a literary text of considerable significance especially on American culture and religion that tries to examine how Native Americans reconcile their sentiments regarding these unrelenting forces. The book's main character, Black Elk, a Lakota holy man who is raised in the Lakota Sioux nation's Oglala band, uses his visions to prescribe solutions for his people. He witnesses various events that shape his life such as the massacre at Wounded Knee and the Ghost Dance. Black Elk is an uncharacteristic member of the Sioux nation, particularly due to his youthful visions and final emergence as the Sioux medicine man with healing and prophetic powers. His great experiences give a deep insight into how the Sioux related with nature. By the time Black Elk is interviewed by John Neihhardt, he is in the twilight years of his life. He is risking a lot by revealing some sacred details about his life to a white man. However, he feels compelled so that he can preserve his sacred visions and thinking for posterity. • 62. The Effects Of Americans On Indian Life One cannot examine U.S. history without looking at the interactions between Native Americans and Americans. From colonization to industrialization, conflicts between these groups have always been prevalent. Indians have been stripped of their land, heritage and status. Our guns, germ and culture have killed them. One can see this power struggle in many pieces of literature. Two being, "Crazy Horse: A Life", a secondary source focusing on a Sioux warrior Crazy Horse and the Plains peoples, and "Indian Trader John Lawson's Journal of Carolina 1709," a primary source that describes an English merchant's encounter with Indians in Carolina. This paper will focus on the effects of Americans on Indian life. "Crazy Horse: A Life" is a secondary source of information that tells the story of Sioux leader Crazy Horse and his tribe. As Whites invade their land for gold Crazy Horse has to find a way to keep his home. Throughout the source, Larry McMurtry, with little evidence, draws up the rise and fall of Crazy Horse. From early on it was evident of the whites' were moving into the Plains peoples settlements, The author wrote, "...at first the pressure of white intrusion may have been subtle but and slight but it was present, and would be present throughout his entire life..." the Sioux people and others way of life was dying because of the settlements of white people on their land. Their settlements cause the game to leave the area, which in turn hurt the hunters of the tribe. With these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 1999 the apartment vacant was bellow 8 percent giving the perfect opportunity for building companies to build and/or expand to meet the supply and demand. Amazingly, in the 1980's the vacancy was under 3 percent. Some of the main areas for future growth were said to be west of Interstate 29 by Empire mall as well as on the north side of Sioux Falls . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the village, Dunbar was reunited with the woman he found on the prairie, Stands With A Fist, and she became the interpreter between the two sides. This made it much easier for the Sioux and John Dunbar to communicate and substantial progress was made between the two. Dunbar then came to the conclusion that the Indians were not just beggars and thieves, but he actually enjoyed their company. Early one morning, Dunbar felt what seemed to be an earthquake. He ran outside to see hundreds of thousands of buffalo stampeding past the fort. Dunbar then jumped on his horse and rode to the Sioux village to inform them of the good news. Although he wasn't welcomed warmly, when the Sioux realized what Dunbar was telling them another celebration broke out. From that moment, Dunbar felt as a celebrity among the Indians and the majority of them accepted him. Dunbar participated in the buffalo hunt and saved the life of a young Sioux boy by killing a buffalo that was charging towards him. That evening, Dunbar took the some of the first steps to becoming one of the Sioux. He traded away his soldier jacket and hat for Indian goods and joined in on the feast and celebration of a successful buffalo hunt. Dunbar no longer saw these men as savages but quite the opposite. • 68. Conflict Negotiation Paper To begin our analysis of conflict, it's important to have a mutual understanding of conflict. A definition that seems to cover the ideas in this scenario well, is "an expressed struggle between at least two interdependent parties who perceive incompatible goals, scarce resources, and interference from others in achieving their goals" (Salsbury, 2016). To best address the conflicts revolving around the Dakota Access Pipeline, we chose to use "The Onion" tool, presented by Fisher et al.'s Working with Conflict; Skills and Strategies for Action. • 72. Discrimination In Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn Discrimination was a huge conflict during the 19th century. Minority groups were largely thought of as less than their white counterparts (Bagwell "Columbus and the Indians"). They were not respected or treated as equals. During the 19th century White society viewed minority groups as inferior, but shared experiences between White individuals and minority groups was a step towards Whites realize that minorities were equal. During the 19th century White society believed that minority groups were inferior to them (Bagwell "Justifying Slavery"). They believed that if you didn't have the same skin color or were considered "uncivilized" you were inferior (Bagwell "Justifying Slavery). Both African Americans and Native Americans were enslaved and discriminated against by Whites (Bagwell). Statements such as "child–like people in need of protection" and "need to bring them to Christianity" passed as justifiable statements for their enslavement (Bagwell "Justifying Slavery"). White society perceived minority groups as intellectually and socially below Whites (). While many Whites went to their graves believing this narrative, some individuals were able to share experiences with these minority groups. • 78. Sioux Falls Case Study The first step to improving soccer in Sioux Falls is to better the level of competitive play. This can be done specifically through Dakota Alliance Soccer Club by fixing technical issues. Practice times, indoor facilities, and coaching are three technical fixes that need to be addressed in order to improve Dakota Alliance Soccer Club (DASC). If all three of these issues can see improvement, then DASC will also see improvements and more success. Practice Times Finding practice times that work for both athletes and parents is very important. For example, when I was a member of DASC there were times during the winter that my team and I wouldn't begin practice until 9:30 pm or 10:00 pm. This was an issue to many because people would miss practice due to school being the next morning. Because there was not full participation from the team at practice, we were never able to take that next step to become better. Practice times need to be improved in order for teams to get better. Bettering practice times can be implemented by having meetings with the members of the team and parents and then determining what times work for everyone. Indoor Facilities ...
