companies. When sound became common in movies, the image ratio was changed to 0.860 inches

The key realisation recognised throughout my art practice this semester has been my investigation of
various binaries; including the study of public and private spheres, internal and external thoughts,
and individual works versus participatory projects. Further consideration of nostalgia, poetry, and
the idea of absence has also been prevalent within my current artwork. This semester I've also begun
examining the connection my practice has to gesture and the body where my handwriting is
perceived as a physical extension of myself. My overall thinking and making processes teeters back
and forth between my fascination of the idiosyncratic lives of others and using my practice as a
cathartic process to healthily response to traumatic experiences. Although initially regarded as a
setback in my practice, the return to intimate, diaristic confessions encapsulates the foundations of
my practice which is examining my intense, instinctual desire to communicate with the people
around me. Thus far when making artwork this semester, my internal struggle between
experimenting with new concepts and wanting to use my practice to heal has influenced the type of
work that I've made. How I've incorporated both desires into my practice is best shown in my works

I woke up to the sound of my alarm this morning it is interesting to see how many objects in our
lives can be completely replaced by smartphones.
After turning my car on and getting ready to head to school I thought about how I could say screw

In cinema's early days, the film industry was based in New York, the nation's theatrical center. Most
movies were being filmed in New York, New Jersey, Chicago, and Florida. However, by the 1920's,
southern California had become the leading film capital due to its cheap land and labor. Films
gained their popularity after Vaudeville actors striked in 1901. This left theaters scrambling for acts
and films became the main event. Silent films were widely popular in the early 1920's and were
usually accompanied by live piano or organ music. Talking–pictures were first introduced in 1923,
but did not become popular until 1927. The first Nickelodeon was introduced in 1905 in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, Nickelodeons, named after their cost and the Greek word for theater, soon spread

Observation Of Teaching A Teacher's Classroom
I have a good friend, Courtney, who is doing her student teaching in a fourth–grade classroom at
Faubion elementary school, and she arranged for me to come in to observe her cooperating teacher's
classroom. On Friday, December 1st at 10 o'clock I had the opportunity to observe Mrs. Makara's
classroom for 45 minutes while the class was doing reading stations. The class is organized into six
table groups with five students in each group. Mrs. Makara's overhead screen hangs in the front of
the room near her table. I noticed that the class was arranged this way in order for all the students to
all easily see the screen as well as collaborate with one another for the assignments and projects that
are assigned in class. When I came into the classroom Mrs. Makara was finishing up teaching a
math lesson. She was using a document camera to project the worksheet that students had in front of
them on screen. She was also using a microphone while talking to the class. Courtney later informed
me that was because one of their students has a hearing impairment so both Courtney and Mrs.
Makara use the microphone when speaking to the class. Mrs. Makara assigned a couple of math
problems for the students to work with their table groups to figure out. After each group figured out
the answer to the problem Mrs. Makara asked for one volunteer to come up and project their work
on the overhead projector. The student showed her work and talked through how her group figured
out the solution. Afterward, Mrs. Makara asked all the students to put away their math work and get
ready for reading stations.
While the students were working to put away their math work Mrs. Makara used her computer to
pull up a slide showing the different reading stations. When I asked my friend about how the
students were split into groups she informed me that they split them up based on their reading levels
because in their class the reading levels are at a wide spectrum. There are some students who are
reading at a sixth–grade level and others that are reading at a K–1 level. Therefore, the only way

The art of animation was first introduced as early as the 1900's. Since technology did not allow for
advanced types of animation to be produced, it was extremely limited in its early days. One of the
first people to gain popularity over their animation films was Walt Disney, who was an important
influence on Burton's film making. Moreover, in Corpse Bride, Burton and his crew provide a scene

Benefits Of Watching Movies At Home
People watch movies for all different reasons, for entertainment, relaxation, humor, and even
pleasure. For instance, going to a movie on a date or on a family outing can be fun or entertaining.
Although going to a movie theater has its benefits, watching movies at home has numerous benefits
from watching movies at a theater. In contrast there isn't any distraction when watching the movie at
home, being able to watch the movie at any time or place and not having to pay for over price foods
or tickets.
At home no one should have to face as much distraction as someone would at a movie theater. In the
movies they are annoy previews, rude customers, cell phone ringing or others walking in front of
you while you are trying to enjoy the movie. Other examples of distraction at a movie theater are
strangers talking through the important parts of the movie and some adults bring little kids to adult
rated movies that kick on the back of the chair. On the contrary, watching the movie at home
eliminates annoy previews, advertisements, kids crying or kicking your seats, people talking though
the movie and people walking in front of the screen when you are trying to watch the movie. Some
might say that someone can still have some of these distraction at home while watching a movie.
However, it is easier to control these distraction at home. For instance, turning off the cell phone

My Guided Walk Through Experience
As I walked toward the entrance I took a deep breath and exhaled. Several emotions rushed through
my veins. I was nervous, anxious and curious to discover what lied behind the doors of the Model
Laboratory School. I had a positive attitude and a clear and open mind of what my observation hours
would teach me within the following months. I knew from previous experiences that each teacher
had their own philosophies, expectations, and rules they held for their students. I also knew that I,

A bush fire occurred near Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse, Dunsborough on 7 February
2009. The Fire and Emergency Service Authority (FESA) informed EnergySafety on the same day
that the bush fire appeared to have originated near a Western Power
(WP) 12.7kV overhead power line (pole number 108). The fire burnt out approximately 108
hectares of bush. The investigation was carried out and completed with the cooperation and
assistance of FESA, Police and Western Power (WP). This report summarized the incident and

Early films were created with audience reception in mind. Tom Gunning, author of "Cinema of
Attraction," theorizes filmmakers' goal to create a film that gripped the audiences' attention and
amazed them – create a spectacle. Therefore, early cinema did not have a narrative structure. They
were most often short films, such as those of the Lumiere Brothers, that were actualities; 40 to 50
second films that showed actualities or activities representative of everyday life, such as playing

This semester my art practice has primarily focused on utilising carefully constructed language as
opposed to previous stream–of–consciousness techniques, while further investigating participatory
projects, and assemblage as a new form of installation. The importance of memory and the
handwritten repeatedly warranted further consideration during the course of the semester and
became a fundamental element in each work. Conceptually, my practice has evolved into a critique
of diaristic language by exhibiting private confessions in public spaces and inviting strangers to
participate in the perverse act of reading my most personal thoughts. This notion is challenged by
the introduction of secondary texts and blurs the line between what is real and what is fiction within
the work. These evolving elements within my practice are best observed through works warm under
orange (standstill), the pitiful militia, my mother and raymond carver, and the library respectively.
Photographic series warm under orange (standstill) is the third transformation of terrible
confessional and pathetic conversation: warm under orange, the second instalment of personal texts
that examine emotions such as joy, anger, exposure and love. The four photographs depict orange
fabric with embroidered text scrunched and folded from a variety of angles. The abstracted view of
the material conceals the text embroidered, however, words such as 'listen' and 'lovely' are legible in

has transformed the movie industry and the way Hollywood creates films. In 1916 Technicolor, one

Zozo: Swedish/Immigrant Film
Zozo by Josef Farez, is a good example of a Swedish/immigrant movie that has become a popular
theme amongst Swedish movies since the increase of immigrants and refugees coming to Sweden.
However, what this particular film did that most Swedish/immigrant films don't is show how both
Swedes and immigrants affect each other, and how conflict comes from both sides. Zozo brings up
how the best way to avoid starting these conflicts is for immigrants to try to let go of their fear and
anger left from when they were living in a war–zone, and be understanding of the swedes and their

Modern digital projection technology only relatively recently surpassed 35mm film in terms of
subjective image quality perception. Whether or not digital image quality has surpassed 70mm film
is still debatable. on the other hand, with film projection, the image is physically developed on film
and there is no resolution, or you can say the resolution is infinite. It's like trying to describe a
perfect circle by describing it with squares or straight lines. So, the quality of film images depends
on the process used capture, develop, and duplicate the original image. An advantage of digital over
film is that the projected image will always be the same across all digital projection systems. Since
every digital projector is fed the exact same pixel data, the position and color of the pixels in
relationship to one another will be consistent. With film projection, the image is physically
developed on film, so there are greater variations in image and color from one print to the next.
Typically, this difference is negligible and not even noticeable, but there are differences. The way

The transition from film to digital cinema drastically changed the way films were made and greatly
affected the cinematography of films. Digital versus film has been a widely debated subject in the
film industry since the availability of digital cameras at the end of the 20th century. Now in the 21st
century, digital dominates the film industry, so why is 35mm film still being used by both amateur
and professional filmmakers? For years film was seen as a joke, far more inferior to digital, because
of the fact that digital gave a better picture and was more convenient to use. But now, film has
developed to the point where the typical audience cannot see the difference between HD digital
films and 35mm films. For example, HDTV laser–beam recording on 35mm colour film can now be
used to enhance the quality of the image without using digital. So now to answer the question earlier
on why 35mm film is still being used today is that it is a preference for some directors. Although the
average viewer cannot spot the difference between digital and film, that doesn't mean that there
aren't any differences between them.

Live theater provides an experience that not even television or movies can portray. It reveals the true

Just take the Broadway show, Cats, which is one of the longest running Broadway shows to date.
Some may not know this but they made a movie on Cats and it did terrible. Rotten Tomatoes, a
renown critic site, only rated it as 20%. But just take Shakespeare's plays which still are performed
today even though they were made centuries ago. Plays will still be continued to be remade and
replayed over and over again until people finally get bored. Movies however can be played but it
can't be remade with new actors or with a twist. Just take the reboot of Ghostbusters with a female
cast and many people were disappointed at even the idea of a reboot. This image represents that
amount of people who go watch a play despite being outside in the open and exposed to the
elements and far from the stage. And they still continue to go and watch wonderful plays performed
for their viewing pleasure. And they all are enthralled by the wonderful show being performed for
them. In conclusion, live theater is an experience all on its own. It doesn't matter if you are in a
theater at a school or in a large open theater like the Muny, it is truly a wonderful experience. You
get to enjoy with friends and others and you are always amazed that they can do so much without

In Persona, one of the most memorable shots of the whole film is the moment in which Alma is
giving Elisabeth the truth about herself. The speech is given from two perspectives; in one instance,
we see Alma speaking and the other we see Elisabeth listening and only Alma's voice. Whether there
is a universal interpretation of this moment or not, the facts are that the two women's faces blend
together at the end of Alma's speech suggesting that maybe the two women are the same person or
Elisabeth has projected her conscious into Alma. Bergman didn't know he was going to use this shot
when they were shooting, but it became something he and cinematographer Sven Nykvist worked
on together. Along with this particular shot, there's also the intercutting of images at the beginning
that was done in post to create the white border around the frame, which made the images smaller

As soon as my brother told me about this special premier and that he was going with his friends, I
was ecstatic. Without thinking, I quickly texted two of my friends who also like these movies,
