3. What is Traditional Animation?
Traditional animation (or classical animation, cel
animation, hand-drawn animation, or 2D animation) is
an animation technique in which each frame is drawn
by hand. The technique was the dominant form of
animation in cinema until computer animation.
When in the 19th century Walt Disney
published his first animations there
weren’t any digital devices like digital
tablets, iPad, etc. they had to draw
every picture like drawing on paper
and take a picture for every frame!
(you know that each second usually
contains 24 frames) that means for
each second they had to draw 24
paintings that related to each other to
make a concept.

Lets consider production as a triangle (like the
picture). each of sides have a name which is
the most important aspects in animation
production. first is “Quality”, second is
“Deadline”, and the last is “Budget”!
What does these aspect means and why we
put them in a triangle? (notice that the inside
area always must be equal)
Quality side determines how you want your projects look like? Do you need to design
deeply or just a simple drawing? maybe you’ll think who don’t want the best quality!
you’re right BUT this is why we put this into a triangle shape!
If you want to increase your “quality” side, you have to increase “budget” and “deadline”!
otherwise if you want to increase the quality and you don’t want to increase your
deadline, you don’t have any other option expect increasing your budget.
Let’s check another example. if your budget is low so, the “budget” side will be short and
you have to decide to lower your quality or increase your deadline, or both!
This was the first thing you should consider when trying to produce an animated video.
You should make a balance between three sides. quality, deadline and budget.
