2. FEVER
FEVER, also known as pyrexia and febrile response having a temperature above the
normal range due to an increase in body temperature set point.
Fever is one of the most common medical signs.
The normal body temperature varies from 36.6 degree C - 37.2 degree C.
3. TYPES OF FEVER
1. INTERMITTENT FEVER:
When the body temperature comes to 37 degree Celsius and during night the body temperature increases which is
called a intermittent fever. This type of fever is classically seen during parasitic or bacterial infection infection. Malaria,
Septicemia and few other types are classic example.
2. Remittent Fever:
During the day body temperature is maintained and in the night the temperature differs more than one degree
Fahrenheit than normal. Ineffective endocarditis and few bacterial infection like Brucellosis is are few examples.
3. Sustained fever:
The temperature remain continuously elevated above 38 degree C and demonstrates little fluctuation.
4. 4. Relapsing fever: Period of fever are interspersed with periods of normal temperature.
5. Hectic fever : if the temperature range swings widely throughout the day, with a difference of
at least 1.4 degree C between the highest and lowest temperatures.
5. Causes of fever
An infection, such as strep throat, flu, chicken pox, or pneumonia
Over exposure of skin to sunlight or sunburn.
Colds
Ear infections
Viral throat infections
Dehydration
Respiratory infections.
6. Sign and symptoms
1. A stiffness neck and light is hurting their eye.
2. Vomiting and refusing to drink much.
3. A rash.
4. More sleepy than usual.
5. Problems with breathing.
6. Pain that doesn't get better with pain relief
medication.
7. Prevention of fever
Avoiding sources of infection and maintaining good hygiene practices are the best way to
prevent a fever.
Wash hand frequently.
Avoid contact with sick people
Avoid touching your nose, mouth or eyes
Carry hand sanitizer
Make sure immunizations are up to date,

Drink plenty of fluids and ensure you get plenty of rest
Avoid using heavy blankets
Keep the room a comfortable temperature
Avoid taking bath or showers in cold water
Wear lightweight cloth.
