Why I Choose Yemen?

War effect on education
Pakistan
The Islamic Republic of
Pakistan is unique among
Muslim countries in that it is
the only country to have
been created in the name of
Islam.
The name Pakistan literally
means “land of the pure”.
Pakistan has the 2nd largest
number of Muslims in the
world after Indonesia.
Yemen
In ancient times Yemen was known
as Arabia Felix, Latin for "happy".
Today, Yemen is neither happy nor
fortunate but it acquired the name
because its high mountains
attracted rain, making it more
fertile than most of the Arabian
peninsula.
Mocha (al-Mukha), on
Yemen's Red Sea coast, was
once the centre of the
world's coffee trade.

political situation
EDUCATION SYSTEM
During the 1970s
The education system in
the North adapted 6-3-3
i. 6 years of primary
school,
ii. 3 years of preparatory
iii. 3 years of secondary
The South also adapted
the same education
system; however, it
changed to 8-4
i. 8 years integrated
school
ii. 4 years of secondary
school
 Secondary education had a choice of academic,
vocational, technical or teacher training education.
After the unification of North and South Yemen in
1990………
these two education systems were merged into
a single system, and 9-3
i. 9 years of basic education
ii. 3 years of secondary education
was adapted. Along with that, enrollment was
diversified into the science and literary tracks in
grades 11 and 12.
The unified Yemen was facing several
educational problems such as……
Lack of a budget for education
Lack of government leadership
Lack of Yemeni teachers
 Overcrowding
Inefficiency in management
Basic Education
• In Yemen the basic education comprises
9 years of basic compulsory education for
children of ages between 6–14 years old
Secondary Education
After the nine years of primary education,
students receive Intermediate School Certificate
and attend secondary school for three years.
In addition to normal secondary schools in which
to prepare for university, technical secondary
schools, vocational training centers, a Health
Manpower Training Institute, and several
agricultural secondary schools are available.
There are also Islamic schools, and private
schools.
University Education
• University education is of 4 years except for
Engineering and Medicine which requires 5 to
6 years respectively. There are 7 public
universities in Sana’a, Aden, Hodeida, Taiz,
Ibb, Dhamar, and Hadramaut (Mukallah) and 5
private universities and religious universities.
Girls' education
The girls’ enrollment rate of Yemen is the lowest in Middle
Eastern countries, and there is huge disparity between boys
and girls, and between urban and rural areas. The low girls’
participation in education is attributed to several socio-
cultural factors. The tradition of early marriage in rural
areas hinders girls’ schooling and leads to high drop out
rates
According to the United Nations, the adult
literacy rate for Yemen in 2007 is 40.5
percent for females and 77 percent for
males
Flaw in Yemen Education System
1) lack of textbooks
2) chairs to the destruction
3) militarization of school buildings
4) According to the U.N., more than 3,600 schools
have closed in Yemen since the beginning of the
conflict in March 2015
Count……
4) Children in Yemen often
face grave danger both in
and out of class
5) child marriage
If Pakistan were your home instead of Yemen
you would...
be 74.81% less likely to be unemployed
be 14.02% more likely to die in infancy
make 24% more money
use 69.19% more electricity
consume 67.65% less oil
spend 52.68% less money on health care
live 2.22 years longer
be 22.64% less likely to be in prison
experience 18.83% less of a class divide
be 11.43% more likely to be murdered
Conclusion
• In Pakistan the issue of improvement in the education
system is of great significance. The system needs
proper attention and the collaboration of both private
and public institutions to collectively lead the nation
towards prosperity.
• The reforms required in the education system of
Pakistan cannot be done by the government alone,
public-private participation and a mix of formal as well
as non-formal education can pull out majority of
country’s population from illiteracy. Similarly, to make
the youth of the country an asset, attention should also
be paid to vocational and technical training.

The low girls’ participation in education is attributed to several socio- cultural factors. The system needs proper attention and the collaboration of both private and public institutions to collectively lead the nation towards prosperity. • The reforms required in the education system of Pakistan cannot be done by the government alone, public-private participation and a mix of formal as well as non-formal education can pull out majority of country’s population from illiteracy. Similarly, to make the youth of the country an asset, attention should also be paid to vocational and technical training.
