1. In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products?
2. Love scenes are very typical in pop music videos and this is a typical
example. The location is romantic and secluded and the shot shows
this but the audience automatically focuses onto the two lovers
embracing.
3. This is a screen grab from Rihanna and Drakes music video
‘Take Care’ here we can see like the shot in our video the
common pop music convention of romance and love between
a woman and man which can help to bring the song to life as a
story unfolds of a relationship which normally shows ups and
downs of their time together.
4. This shows a scene that is of beauty it is a still of a sunset and this adds
something special to the video, almost making it seem picturesque. It also
helps to set the scene of the video and shows us where the young girl is when
she is feeling sad and we can see why she has come to this place.
5. This is a grab from One Directions music video ‘What Makes you Beautiful’
this shows another pop music video convention of having beautiful scenic
shots in music videos like similar to the sunset we have in our video. This
helps to make the video easy on our eye as well as setting the scene for
the video. It can make the location look picturesque and add to the star
persona by showing they are in luxury locations.
6. In this clip the artist is getting some star persona, the camera is very focused on
him and the shot is very intense. The audience can feel a connection to the
artist and it is almost as if he is speaking to us through the song. The lighting
again adds to the intensity of the shot giving it the impact it does.
7. This is a similar shot type to some of the ones we have in our video and this is
taken from Adele’s video for ‘Rolling in The Deep’. Like in our video ‘Rolling in The
Deep’ has lots of simple close up shots of the artist singing which makes it feel very
intense and we feel a closeness to the artist.
8. This is a typical convention of a music video and it is showing the
troubles in a relationship between two people. This is typical of a
music video especially in the narrative and it often helps bring the
song to life. In this music video the narrative reflects the lyrics and is
gives a message to the audience that time is precious.
9. This is a grab from Katy Perry’s music video ‘Thinking of You’ as in the grab from our
video we can see conflict and a distance between two people in a relationship which
helps to bring a meaning to the song. This distance causes an interesting narrative for
the viewer and is a convention that lots of people can relate to.
10. This clip again shows us a typical convention of a pop music video and we can
see that the female in the relationship is upset about the troubles in the
relationship. She has taken herself off to somewhere to reflect and give herself
time to think. This is typical in music videos and the camera focuses on the
character for a while.
11. Here we can see the female artist like the one in our video in a quiet location
contemplating her relationship. This is from Beyonce’s music video ‘Best Thing I
Never Had’. Again the female has gone to a location of beauty which is secluded
and is giving her time to think. This makes us feel a connection to the woman and
we feel sympathy for her.
