The technology quest on iPods and MP3 players really interested me because I have
been using an iPod for years, yet I knew there had to be plenty of things that I didn’t know about
them. I decided to look into some of the applications that I could use for my iPod touch, and I
found a couple really good apps that keep me organized and in control of my school work. One
of them is called iStudiez Pro, and ever since I have downloaded it, it has helped me stay on top
of my school work. Since there are so many different apps and podcasts I can use, I think iPods
really help me learn because I learn pretty well visually, yet it still stimulates my brain enough to
think intuitively, so the information I am learning can stick.
The iPods definitely interested me the most as learning technologies because I wanted
to know new ways of using the thing I use most in a way that will benefit my education. I was
surprised by social bookmarking as a tool for learning because it never occurred to me that I
could use it for my education. Once I learned more about it, I realized that it is more versatile
than I thought it was. I want to explore iPads more because I have an iPad, yet I don’t use it for
school very often. I want to explore into the apps that I can use on my iPod and also see which
apps work better on my iPad.
I believe the applications for iPods are still the best for my learning experience because i
can take them easily with me anywhere, allowing me to study with flashcards or do practice
questions at anytime I please. Allowing my studying to be more mobile, I can practice
flashcards and study on a more regular basis. They stimulate my visual learning, so I can retain
information much easier than if I were to just try to read the boring notes I take. I have even
noticed that I retain information easier on the flashcard app than I do with real flashcards.
I will definitely be using visual and sequential learning styles because I find that they
help me retain information best, especially with the iPads and iPods. Taking things slowly and
step-by-step truly allows me to take the information easier, but if I can also see the step-by-step
action at the same time, I get the best outcome out of that lesson. I can definitely use this at
school for future semesters, especially in my criminal justice courses because I can breakdown
legal matters, and I can use podcasts to help as well. As long as I can connect my classes to
some type of visual aid, I will be better off.
I will definitely be using my iPod and iPad more often for educational purposes. It really
is so convenient to be able to pull out my iPod and study for tests or listen to a podcast that will
allow me to understand the concepts that I am learning a little better. There is always
something that can help me in school on my ipod, which will keep me motivated to keep using it
as a learning tool. I most likely won’t use microblogging for educational purposes because I
would rather use it as a social outlet in my life, rather than educational.
