In the progressionof the productI thinkIlearnta lot aboutthe editingside of the production.Ihad
no priorexperience withanyfilmmakingsoIthoughtthat it wouldbe interesting toleranhow the
productionof a filmworked
Filming:
Whenit came to filming,IthinkIhave learnta lotabout how longand dubiousitisto filmcertain
shotsdue to the difficultyof some of them.Ithinkif Iwere to compare the shotsin our filmto the
onesinmy preliminarytask,Ithinkthatwe have progressedquite alotinthe sense thatwe got too
fewshotsmakingthe editingprocessdifficultforus,aswell asthe shots thatwe didgetwere shaky
whichprovedtobe difficultforuse inthe final editing.Withthisfinal project,we learntfromour
mistakesanddecidedtoputa shot listtogetherdue tothe fact that itwas imperative thatwe gotan
abundance of shotsso that we had a lotto editwith.We alsohad the revelationof the factthat if
we were to doPOV shotswe couldmake themshakywhichcrossedoutthe problemthatwe had
and made itintoa positive.There wasdifficultymakingthe pansaswell astrackingshots still,so
overtime we learnthowto keepitsteadyaswell asmaking pans fluidunlike inthe preliminarytask
where we couldn’tuse the pandue to itbeingjolty.We alsouseda widervariationinshottypesand
movementsaswe feltthatwiththe preliminarytaskthatit justhadtoo many mediumshotssowe
usedmanymore tracking,POV and longershotsinorderto give a more realisticvarietyof shotsso
there were nocontinuityerrorsinorderto make itshow off our filmingtalent.We usedthe 180
degree inthe preliminarytaskbutdecidednottouse it inthe final productdue to havinglotsof
shotsto get throughandeditsso we decidedtoleave itout.
The problemwasthatthe lightingvariedineverysingle shotinthe preliminarytaskanditcaused
continuityerrorssothe qualityof image wasquite poor.We progressedwiththe shotsbyhavingthe
lightingwhenwe were filmingtogive ourselvesaneasierjob.The audiowasquite clearinthe
preliminarytaskbutwe didn’tattempttouse anysoundbridges or anyother suchthingsso we kept
it simple byhavingthe soundineachshotand notacross two whichdidn’tshow off anyof our skills
at all,so inthe final productthere are multiplesoundbridgesthatIeditedwhichshow off the skills
that we had learntinclassas well asthe fact thatin the final product we useddifferentambient
soundsonset inorderto create a differentmoodwhichwe didn’tdointhe preliminarytask.
The hardestthingI thinktoovercome inthe preliminarytaskwastryingtothinkof the shots that
we coulddo due to the lack of a shotlist.Thisprovedtobe troublesomeaswe were extremely
underpreparedandverynaïve forthinkingitwouldbe soeasy,soitprovedto be more of a
challenge thanwe initiallythought.Aswellasthis,we hadn’tdiscussedthe ideaforthe preliminary
task andonce we had,we were still ondifferentpagesandhaddifferentviewsandideasforwhatto
do so thatwas a large problemthatwas difficulttoovercome.Iwasnot veryhappywiththe
outcome of the preliminarytaskasit seemedthatnomatterhow many shotswe did,itnever
seemedtobe goodenoughandup to a higherlevel.
Editing:
The qualityof editingwasmuchbetteroverall onthe final productcomparedtothe preliminarytask
due to our knowledgeof the software we were usinghaddeveloped sowe knew whatwe hadtodo.
Thisdevelopededitingwasseenwiththe audioasinthe preliminarytaskwe didn’tattemptto
include anyothermusicor soundeffectsaswe hadverylittle knowledgeof itsoit wasquite boring
due to this,so inthe final product,we includedmanynon-diageticsoundeffectsaswell asa
soundtrackwhichwe includedwithease,showingagoodprogressioninoureditingtechnique.We

2. alsoeditedmore soundbridgesintoourfilmandmade themworkwell andcause nocontinuity
errors.
Due to our lack of editingwiththe preliminarytask,Ididn’tknow how touse the colourcorrection
tool,so some shotswere verybrightandmanyotherswere dark,so inthe final product,Iremoved
thisissue byusingthe colourcorrectiontool.The editsusedonthe preliminarytaskwere simple and
quite basicdue to usnot wantingto attemptanythingtoocomplex sowe onlyhave cutsforeach
transition.Thiswaschangedinthe final product,due tothe fact thatwe includedmanyfadesto
black,jumpcuts as well ascuts to include awidervariationineditingtechniquestoshow off how far
our knowledgeoneditinghadcome.We hadproblemswitheditingthe preliminarytaskdue tothe
fact that there were continuityissuesasI walkedtoofastand thentoo slow so itdidn’twork,sowe
had to keepeverythingperfectinthe final task.
I thinkthe hardestthingaboutthe final taskwas tryingto geteverythingtoflow perfectlyonthe
editingside of thingsasitall seemedtobe toolongand then too shortso I had to findthe perfect
place due to the fact that if it wastoo longit wouldseemlikeacharacter waswaitingtotalk butif it
was tooshort itwouldseemlike theywere interruptingeachother,soIhad to workon that quite a
bitto get that perfect.Withthe preliminarytaskIfoundthe same forthat withthe editingasit
didn’tpiece togethertoowell sowe hadto workon it fora longtime inorderto make it look
seeminglyok.There were nocontinuityerrorsanditflowedwell and workedwell to
