Key Skills
During the past ten years post-graduate I have gained a wide range of experience caring
for critically ill children, with a variety of conditions ranging from oncology, respiratory,
orthopaedic, neurological and high dependency care.
Currently I am a Junior Sister for the Children’s Homecare Team at the Royal Free NHS
Trust. This is a varied yet rewarding role as a Community Nurse. My day to day duties
range from giving intravenous antibiotics in the home to doing large wound dressings on
a daily basis. We also work with the CommunityOncology service to see oncology patients
for phlebotomy, CVAD care and PICC line care. We also access port a cath’s frequently.
Previously I worked within the Paediatric Oncology Chemo Day Unit as a Senior Staff
Nurse at the Harley Street Clinic. My duties include administering chemotherapy,
providing care to Hickman lines, Picc lines and port a caths. Assessing patient care needs
and if they require review by the MDT team. Administering blood products and other
medication as required. And providing support to the families when needed.
Prior to this I worked for the Paediatric Outpatients Department also at the Harley Street
Clinic as a Senior Staff Nurse. In the absence of the Sister in I had regularly deputised and
took charge of managing the department dealing with patients effectively and efficiently
and assisting in the management and leadership of the department. My main patients
require oncology care and therefore I occasionally have to make clinical decisions
regarding their treatment.
Previously at BUPA Cromwell Hospital, I dealt with mainly surgical admissions, part of
my duties was to be in charge of the ward and thus being able to prioritise staff workloads
and direct them accordingly. By working within a multi-disciplinary team has allowed me
to become more proficient in evaluating and then implementing a high standard of care at
all times.
