This talk will examine Case's effort to solve a set of difficult problems and
It will turn you into a superhuman. You can press a button and talk with someone without having to physiclaly leave where you are. The world is small – you can stand on one side of the world, whisper something and be heard on ther other.
I tried to do this in 2007 by getting a hardware GPS logger, and only lasted a week of carrying it around since it was another device to charge, and I had to download the data every night.----- Meeting Notes (2011-05-17 11:54) -----:60
A couple months later, I finally got my first smart phone, and I made sure to choose one that had a GPS chip in it, and there weren’t many options at that point.----- Meeting Notes (2011-05-17 11:54) -----1:20
But they can be used to bring forth the next chapter of interfaces. The invisible interface.
Here is an example of something more useful. Say you schedule a meeting at 3pm. You think “great, he’ll get to my office right at 3.”
But of course, 15 minutes before the meeting you start wondering if I’ll get there early, or if I’ll be a few minutes late. Do you have time to go next door to get some coffee? Do you have time to finish this phone call?
And if I’m on my way to meet you and get stuck in traffic, I’d want to let you know that I’ll be a few minutes late and not to give up on me! But texting while driving is hard, and sometimes illegal! All these redundant messages could be eliminated if you knew where I was.
So now, before I leave for the meeting, I”ll send you a link to my map where you can watch my trip in real time. Now you don’t need to wonder if I’ve forgotten about the meeting or if I’m only a block away. This is one of the features of our app, Geoloqi.----- Meeting Notes (2011-05-17 11:54) -----3:30
Example: send detailed transit instructions so you don’t have to dig for them later.Rather than searching your email on your phone trying to find the information, you get it as an SMS when you need it.
Gave a talk at OS Bridge, talked about the idea, described how we were building the backend already, found people to help build the app!
Also, somoene in Norway used Geoloqi to track a weather balloon 17 km into the air and used geoloqi to find the baloon when it crash landed into a tree

In an era where it is so easy to create software, where servers don't have to be built from scratch and where it is relatively easy to raise money for a company, why aren't there more groundbreaking companies and startups?

It really starts to work when you enable large datasets and allow them to be invisible. The button reduces the friction between the real world and the digital one. Instead of looking at your device you look at the world and have the world added to you.
I’ve lived in Portland for 6 years and I haven’t known about buildings.
Sends users notifications of restaurants nearby their location that are below a threshold of cleanliness. Made by Reid Beels at a Geoloqi HackathonExample: take restaurant inspection scores, and send an SMS if you’re near a restaurant with a low score.

To summarize, feedback is important. Sleep is important. Self reflection is important. Some form of digital downtime is important to defragment the brain. Computers and humans aren't so difficult after all. People need more ways to monitor their own thoughts. People need more ways to know themselves in a very intermittent world. Some new form should occur not filled with cliche words, but something new, to help.

Great way to meet people! Find out if they are interested in your idea. See how they work under pressure. If they still want to work on the project after the hackathon, you found someone really cool. you get to meet them for who they are instead of who they are on paper in an informal setting. making a company should be about giving people a good opportunity to do what they are interested in and achieving self-actualization.
Your investors will be your advisors. Never take money from someone you don’t know. Bootstrap as long as you can, take investment when you’re ready to start scaling up your idea and building faster.

do it because you need to do something and want a challenge.
“All the students in my class want to raise money and go public, and I say, ‘Are you building a restaurant or McDonald’s?’” Roizen said. If you’ve built a great website around your passion and can make $25,000 a month when you’re one person, “that’s a huge lifestyle success,” she said, “but when you’ve raised $5 million in venture capital, you’re toast,” because venture capitalists will expect at least 10 times their money back.http://blogs.wsj.com/venturecapital/2012/04/03/which-start-ups-should-not-raise-venture-capital/
VC firms like consumer tech because it’s obvious quickly whether it returns money or not.
Worst days ever, best days ever. Best to do work when no one cares.
Don’t develop in a bubble. Talk to people, find out what they need. Meet as many people as you can.
