Welcome To Eighth Grade
First off, Welcome to Eighth Grade! It's going to be a great year for you , team 8–1 is the best pod
there is. All the classes are so much fun but the top three advice I give to you, is do your homework!
I know everyone says this to you in middle school but especially in eighth grade because your
grades for this year go onto your high school teacher and you wouldn't want them thinking that you
are too lazy to do a simple task like homework on a daily basis. Next always participate in class it's
so much fun to do so I know people have fears talking in front of other people but in reality you're
not going to see these people in five to ten years from now so who cares? The more you participate
the more fun eighth grade is going to be. Last thing

Descriptive Essay
I read the sentence slowly, examining each word making sure my eyes weren 't deceiving me. My
mind went blank for what at the time seemed like forever. When I could finally gather my thoughts
together I began to continuously re read the sentence. "Body found in Clinton near vehicle linked
with missing LDHS student." Soon a lump began to form in my throat. Each time I read it my heart
sped up, warm tears I didn 't realize I had shed dripped onto my phone, and my soul ached with
sadness. I started to hyperventilate, sobbing so badly I formed a puddle on my wooden bathroom
floor. I 've heard losing a friend is like losing a limb, but to me it felt more like everything inside of
me had been ripped out. Nothing could have prepared me for this, ... Show more content on

I guess the hispanic one noticed my facial expression because he spoke up.
"My name is Edwin" he said with a confident smirk.
He continued the conversation by asking me if I had any friends and I said a couple and then stated
their names. they told they knew them as well. After a little more general conversation the bell rang
and I realized I never made it to the gym. Before walking to class the short one asked me if I had a
phone. I told him no I did not have one, but I did have an email address instead. They all snickered
and I blushed, I was glad my dark complexion couldn 't show how heated my cheeks where with
embarrassment. After we finished our conversation I turned around and headed back in the direction
of my academy class with a smile on face. We all talked almost everyday after that, even when I
began making more friends they were always there for me.
Still sitting on my bathroom floor with a small smile and tears stained to my face. That smile didn 't
last for long. I soon felt the tears begin to fall again as I thought back to the summer before ninth
grade. That summer Edwin and I got very close, we talked everyday, all day. It was not an hour that
went by that we weren 't talking. When the summer ended and ninth grade began we all drifted apart
from seeing that they were still in eighth grade and I didn 't have the transportation to see them. By
the time they started

Personal Narrative: The Acceptance Of Mental Health
It came in waves. It started when I was 14 years old, in my 8th grade year. While I have no idea
what triggered this, I do know that it was a six–year long slope of mental health degradation pushing
me to my breaking point, depriving me of sleep, energy, and my own identity. Unfortunately for me,
my family has always been skeptical and critical of mental health issues. My parents always taught
me that mental health is a scam and those who claim to have an issue are simply weak. So, it may
not be much of a surprise that when I approached my mother about what I was experiencing, she
screamed "No, you do not have a problem! You need to grow up!" Her words still ring in my head,
and I still remember thinking, I am alone. I have nowhere to turn ... Show more content on

I learned that it is okay to be different and to struggle. While I may have lost my identity on the way,
and I have always thought that I was "broken" and "different", it is okay to be different. My disorder
makes me unique, and while I may be difficult to deal with and I may struggle my entire life, I have
a support system in place and I am learning my limits. I am learning to be myself, and to take off the
mask I wore for so long. While these waves may crash on me, I am far from drowning in this ocean.
I am learning to swim in

Reflection Of My Personal Essay : My Philosophy Of Friendship
2 years ago, a friend taught me something. She didn't mean to, and the situation didn't lend itself to
learning life lessons. But for whatever reason, this situation above all others really defines a piece of
my life philosophy.
I believe in being happy for others, rather than being jealous of them, when they get things you
want. It's not uncommon to be jealous of a friend, and before eighth grade, I was often jealous of
others. I was jealous that my friends had money when I didn't, that my male friends actually looked
masculine while I looked like a girl, and that they were more experienced romantically than I was.
The experience that led me to end this jealousy, like many events in my life, began with a failed
romantic endeavour. At the end of seventh grade, I admitted my love to a friend I'd fallen for, a girl
called Rebecca. She rejected me, to which I responded with mock sorrow and sarcasm, and we
continued our friendship largely unhindered. The next year, in eighth grade, I asked out another of
my friends, a girl called April that I was very close with. I got rejected, (by this point in my life,
rejection didn't so much as phase me anymore) to which I once again responded with mock sorrow
and sarcasm, and we continued our friendship largely unhindered.
I felt a bit sorry for myself, getting rejected twice by 2 close friends and making life awkward, but I
didn't really get hung up on it. I mean, it's not like I actually expected to succeed – I was the boy
everybody called a "trap" because I looked and spoke femininely. Guys often had to clarify that they
were in the right bathroom when they saw me there. I didn't know why anyone would date me – in
their position, I certainly wouldn't!
So I became jealous of my friends, for looking like their own gender, for being able to succeed
romantically. What's the point, you may be asking, to all of this? Well, this mindset took me over for
a bit. What's really important here is what encouraged me to break it.
And surprisingly, it was actually April and Rebecca who finally got me to.
As luck would have it, they had both rejected me partly because they were interested in someone
else. Specifically, they were interested in each other. How's that for a plot twist, huh?

Personal Reflection On The Eighth Grade At Constance...
Sept. 10, 2015 I remember when I first met Sherlock Holmes. We were in the eighth grade at
Constance Middle School. The school year was coming to an end, and everyone was buzzing with
excitement, talking about their plans for summer and graduation. With one month left in the school
year, people were being accepted into private high schools, and exclusive home programs that I
could only dream of. Throughout all of my years of middle school, my grades were never
satisfactory. I was all Bs and Cs, which was never good enough for my school. The teachers
expected us to have a 4.0 all three years of middle school, and most students did. But I was never up
to standard in my classes, although I tried my best to be. Somehow, this ... Show more content on

Pretending I don 't notice his casual dress, I ask him for his name; although I already know it.
"Sherlock," he replies, ignoring me still. Ever since I joined Constance, checking my grades had
become a daily habit. With my average G.P.A being a 3.83, anything below a B– was shocking. So,
when I checked my grades and saw my final grades were all Cs, I was not happy. In fact, I gasped
louder than I have to this very day! Phone in hand, I immediately called the school counselor and set
a meeting date. "Seems to me like a computer error! I recommend asking your teachers about this
personally, but I bet they will tell you the same. These things happen!" Ms. Practi – the school
counselor – bants. These things happen?! Not this close to graduation! I smile and nod, then thank
her for meeting with me. She 's probably right anyways, it was probably just a glitch in the system.
But what if it wasn 't? I think. Throughout all of my schooling, I had never been this stressed about
my grades. First period blew by, along with second and third. Fourth period dragged on for what
seemed like forever, but ended abruptly when an unexpected fire drill blared through the
unsuspecting school. In chemistry, Sherlock and I were assigned as partners for our weekly
summary. I took the chance to tell him about my grades, which, now that I think about it, was
probably too inviting for our first talk. His interest

Personal Narrative Essay : A Walk To School
I wake up to the sound of my radio alarm turning on. I hear "Good Morning beautiful city of
Louisville Kentucky, it should be a nice day out. It's going to be partly cloudy with a high of 52
degrees and a low of 44 degrees. It's currently 7:01 am this morning and I'll get back to you after the
break." Right at that I click the button to turn it off. I get up and get ready for school and I hear my
mom yell "Emma come down and eat breakfast when you're ready!" After I get ready I walk down
stairs and right away smell the pancakes and maple syrup. It's our first time this month having
pancakes and I am so excited because pancakes is my favorite breakfast! I finally arrive in the
kitchen and savor the fluffy pancakes in my mouth. I finish and head to the door to start my walk to
school. Before I leave I yell out "Thanks mom breakfast was delicious! Bye love you!" My mom
replies "Bye sweetie love you too!"
On my walk to school all I can think about is how boring today is going to be since it's a Monday
and we just started a new component in almost every class. The only thing I really am looking
forward to are seeing my two best friends Jake and Katie. Right then Jake meets up with me on our
walk to school like we always do. I wonder where Katie is though since she's usually with him by
the time I meet up with them. I ask, "So where's Katie at today?" He replies, "I texted her and she
said she's going to be late today so her mom has to drop her off." "Man she's never

State Swim Analysis
It was my first high school meet of the season and my nerves were on edge. All summer, I had been
training hard to reach my goal of qualifying for the state swim meet. The event I had the best chance
at was the 100 yard breaststroke. My time was only one second away from the qualifying time. As
the race grew near, my nerves improved, and I believed that I could qualify. I stepped up onto the
block, dove in, and swam my heart out. As I finished my race, I looked up from the pool and saw
that I had shaved two seconds off my time. I had qualified! My family, coaches, and teammates all
congratulated me on my accomplishment. Even though I was ecstatic at that moment, I knew that
qualifying was only half the journey. I had a long road ahead of me ... Show more content on

It may sound strange, but I love competing against my teammates. There's a feeling of comfort I get
when I swim with others that I have known and trained with for numerous years. When it was time
for the race, we all wished each other good luck and stepped onto the blocks. I wasn't nearly as
nervous swimming in this race than my first state race because I was familiar with the environment
and people. When the buzzer rang, I dove in and swam as best as I could. My time went down from
my previous race, but it was less than a second. I'm convinced it was because I swam an awesome
race the first day and my body was still recovering. When the meet results came out, I placed
fourteenth overall and our girls swim team came placed sixth. We were very excited because only
four individuals and two relays qualified to move onto

Coach Chet's Effect On The Greenwave Girls
Chance at Revenge
Being in sports can be both challenging and rewarding at times. Being brutally defeated can make
you feel like you're at rock bottom, while winning a championship game can make you feel as if
you're on the top of the world. This is a story about a basketball team who finally stepped up to their
biggest rival of all, showing the other team and themselves that anything is possible.
The East Grand Forks (EGF) Greenwave Girls basketball team had been playing basketball together
since first grade, plus or minus a few players. The majority of them played for the love of the game,
no matter if they win or lose. They were no all–star team that destroyed and dominated every
opponent they took on; just an average team with wins and losses scattered around the grid. There
was one team in particular that the Greenwave girls could never compete with, and they lived in the
same city. The Sacred Heart Eagles. Beginning in first grade, this team had never struggled to beat

Their coach was Chet Carnivale. Coach Chet had been making a big impact on the Greenwave girls.
It was late January, early February; the middle of the basketball season, and their record was 22–0.
They couldn't believe they were undefeated. Taking on Sacred Heart at 4:30, the Greenwave girls
would compete to win the championship game in the Sacred Heart Tournament. Time had flown by.
The sound of basketballs bouncing and the squeaking of basketball shoes burning rubber on the
floor meant that it was almost game time. The Greenwave girls were extremely anxious. Coach Chet
had sparked a new confidence in them, and their anxiety and fear quickly turned into anger and
determination to give their long–time enemy a taste of their own medicine. Somehow, the fear of
destroying their record and losing a chance at revenge still lingered in the back of their minds. All of

Writing And Thinking For The Middle School English...
The textbook that teachers in grades sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth grade at Wanye–Finger Lakes
BOCES are utilizing Expert 21: Reading, Writing and Thinking for the Twenty–first Century (2010)
textbook for their Middle School English Language Arts Curriculum. This textbook was published
by Scholastic and is utilized as the curriculum that teachers are required to teach and modify as
needed. The textbook is divided into eight workshops that present students with real–world themes.
There are a total of three courses with two textbooks that align with each of the three courses.
Within the Expert 21(2010) textbooks, each workshop is specifically divided into four sections. The
first component of the workshop students' encounter is Explore the Expert, these are short question
and answer interviews with experts that have experienced or work in a field that aligns with the
workshop's theme. The Meet the Expert section of the workshop provides students with integral
opportunity for students to connect their own lives and experiences and active their background
knowledge on a certain theme. Students are introduced to an expert for students to build background
knowledge about the topic being presented in the workshop. Students are then are provided excerpts
from authentic texts, the reading excerpts are from classic and contemporary literature and
informational texts. There are a total of seven text excerpts that students are to read, and respond to

Explain Why And When Are You Involved In The...
What program–related courses have you taken? And when did you take them?
In 7th grade, I took Algebra 1 for math class. In 8th grade, I took Geometry for math class and
Introduction to Engineering and Design for technology class. Currently in 9th grade, I am taking
Algebra 2 for math class, Digital Electronics for technology class and Biology for the science class.
What type of academic extracurricular activities/groups are you involved in? I really like science,
math, and technology, and I try to learn as much as I can when I have free time. After school, I
participate in clubs to enhance my skills. One extracurricular activity I do is Science Olympiad, a
club that works to prepare for a Science competition against other regional schools on different
types of science related topics. This club is a really good way to strengthen my knowledge in STEM
related topics. Another extracurricular activity I engage in is Science Bowl, another club that
prepares for a science competition in March. By participating in this club, I can improve my speed
in answering science related subjects. I really enjoy being part of these fun and learning Science
competitions. After school, I partake in an extracurricular group, Math Honors Society. By engaging

When one says "pencil," a image of a long, round object appears in everyone's mind that is blunt on
one end and sharp on the other. The structure of this pencil can be also used for many different
things including pressing small buttons such as reset buttons, getting things out of reach, and
pointing things out to someone. A significant part of the pencil is, for example, the point of the
pencil. Using this point, I can stab holes in something, or use it as a huge substitute needle, provided
that the pencil is sharp enough. As long as one has creativity, there can be infinite possibilities when

My Dream Life
Ever since the very beginning of my life, it feels as if everything has always been surreal. My
dreams and goals all took a long time to come together but they were definitely worth the wait;
everything started to take shape during my first few breaths. Thirty minutes later into being born a
day early, I was born to my mother, delivered by more than seven doctors, across the street from
what is now my dream college. I was what both my parents enjoy to mention as much as possible, a
very difficult child ever since birth; as I had independently decided I would rather be different and
special, and I came out sideways. Which, due to my ingenious acts my mother who was surrounded
by doctors, was in the best hands.
When I was a kid, I dreamed of becoming someone that my mother would now days deem as an
irrational and unachievable perception of a person. But regardless, my friends and I still pretended
to live as if everything came easily to us; making dreams and promises that we could never live up
to meet. Yet once I got older, to the age of ten and or eleven where my newly found dream changed
to owning a bakery; that I would then inspirationally and ever so badly name it after my one and
only childhood companions, my fat orange tabby cat named Percy. I knew everything about my
orange cats bakery, to the interior, how I'd achieve getting the small bakery, to the degrees (business
and a culinary degree) I must obtain to be as successful as humanly possible. My mother, at

Love In Love, My Love For Basketball
Hello, my name is Tamara, and I'm in love with this sport. I'm 18 years old, a senior in high school.
I'm a sprinter in the 100 & 200m & 400m events. It may not be much, but I just thought I'd share my
story and my dreams simply because I enjoy doing so. It all started in eighth grade, I was 15. I never
had any experience with sports whatsoever except for basketball earlier that year, and honestly had
no idea what I was doing. I felt I had no physical ability and had low self–esteem when it came to
my athletic ability. I was 4'6 and still managed to get on picked for the team for basketball, though
probably being one of the shortest people in the group. Basketball has been a sport I've always liked,
and realizing how hard it really was to actually play was a hard pill for me to swallow. During the
period of the season, I spent the time in basketball off–season to practice on what needed to know
and what can help me during next season. After the basketball season ended, our head coach called
us all to the gym, and began telling us it was time for a new sport; Track and Field. she told us it was
for the best of the best. We went outside and got all of our times. Being inexperienced, I was
wearing casual high top reeboks that were extremely heavy. I did well. The next day, my friend
encouraged me to try some old shoes she had, emphasizing how light they were. The time we
needed to make to be considered for the team was 15 seconds on the 100m (keep

Reflection Paper
As I walk into school, I was shocked because of how different it was from elementary school. I look
at my schedule, and go to my homeroom. The teacher seemed nice so I was already happy. She
greets everyone, talks about who she is, and then we are called to the auditorium. We all stand up,
and follow the teacher to auditorium. When we get there we are seated on the balcony, I look down
and I see the 7th and 8th graders, thinking to myself that I have a long ways to go until high school.
The principal walks in, everyone quiets down and listens. The eighth graders already knows who he
is because they went here in 7th but the seventh graders went to the 6th grade center, sometimes I
wish it was still opened but at the same time I don't because I am so used to it not being here. The

Spanish Teacher Interview Questions
One tortuous question When I was in fourth grade, one day my Spanish teacher gave us a test with
one question, which was to make an essay. My Spanish teacher was elderly, with rugged skin, and a
very white hair. The part in which we had to create a whole essay was not the hard thing, what was
hard was the question; it was to write about what we wanted to do when we grew up. In mere
moments, everyone was writing, the pencils moved at light speed throughout the papers, except for
mine. I was in a state of shock, I was frozen.
"How can I know what I want to do when I grow up at this age?" I wondered. It seemed ludicrous to
have such a question in fourth grade, but we had it, and my time was running out. I felt nervous,

What made it my favorite wasn't just the passion I had for mathematics, but the way the teacher
thought them. My algebra teacher was British, but had an English accent, his hair was golden, his
skin was like an extremely pallid red, and his eyes were green. The way he taught math was
amusing, he used from people to objects, anything at all, and gave them mathematical properties.
Today's lesson in specific was about parabolas in word problems, as the class advanced the grim in
many faces vanished, except for very few people, I was among them. From the ones I noticed was
the girl that sat in the front of the first row with abundant stygian hair, and brownish eyes, I can't
seem to recall her name. Someone else was Oscar, a friend of my mine, who had short black hair,
and sat in the last part of the row on my right. "I'm glad I came to Saturday school!" The girl in the
first row's exclamation ensued nods from those who went to Saturday school and annoyed faces
from those who didn't. "I didn't come to Saturday school and I get it. They shouldn't boast their luck
or ability in front of others." I thought with an annoyed look, too. A hand flew up in the air from
someone in the right most part of the immense classroom, and that person (who I'm not sure if he
was Albert, another friend of mine) asked: "Why should we care to learn this? I'm not going

How To Write An Essay About My English Teacher
Let's be honest, thinking of a teacher that was memorable for reasons that don't include, giving F's,
giving homework, or giving detentions ... is kinda tricky. But there was one teacher who impacted
my life in ways I never thought were possible. This teacher was my eighth grade English teacher.
Yes I know you are all going, "You're English teacher? No way."
Yes way!! I was honestly my English teacher who had the most impact on my life. Now, it wasn't
exactly for what she taught me in class: dissecting sentences or finding different types of verbs or
identifying the subject or doing lots of in depth research. But for the lessons of growing up as a
mature human being and the lessons of life that impacted me. I'll be the first to tell you that I wasn't

Anyhow, I wasn't able to go to school so I was going to miss my exam. My teacher reached out to

Yes, at HOME!
I know the question flying through all of your minds, "Did you cheat??" Well I'm sorry to disappoint
you, but I did not cheat on my exam. This teacher had found enough trust in me that she was willing
to let me take my exam from the comfort of my own bed. I couldn't go behind her back and just
break that bond of trust I had worked so hard to make. No one was watching and she would've never
known, but I couldn't live with the guilt that would've feeled me every single time I looked her in
the eyes.
I know all you people are saying I would've, but would you have really?
You all are going, "Well I would've cheated, I wouldn't have felt guilty," well I disagree. I can
almost guarantee that almost every single one of you would've done the same thing I did.
By this point I had loved this teacher, not for letting me take my exam at home, but by teaching me a
true lesson of life. I couldn't thank her enough. The second half of the school year was the same.

Autobiography Essay
As a child, I was always outspoken. I was the typical kid that questioned any and everything I
encountered. Growing up in a Jamaican household, my mom and grandmother gave me the name
'mout–a–massi' which was patois (our english dialect) for blabber mouth. The people in my
neighborhood at the time loved me. I was outgoing and always ready to lend a hand. I can remember
a specific times where an old lady by the name of Miss.Peggy used to sit on her steps and read her
folklore poetry out loud. She would read at the top of her lungs and waited patiently for me to join
in through my bedroom window. The stanzas became songs to me. She had recited these poems so
much that they became apart of my everyday routine. " My body is the shield of my temple", She
would say, and i would soon after follow, " What blasted man should go there". Miss.Peggy was big
on self empowerment and having confidence in yourself. She was a role model to many young girls
in my community. I think she was my major source of confidence and she helped to shape me into
the outspoken 12–16 year old I became in the future. When I got to 3rd grade, my teachers noticed
my charisma and love for poetry. I became apart of the Jamaica National Folklore Festival (JNFF).

What I Learned in the Eighth Grade Essay
Throughout my academic life, I have learned many essential lessons from being organized, to
treating others with respect. However, my 2013 eighth grade school year has taught me the most
important lesson of all, team work. Team work is the ability to get along with others, and it's the
central piece of being respectful to your peers and doing your part! As my eighth grade year began,
my teachers have taught me that getting along well with others is a splendid way to gain great
success. They also mentioned, "In order to get to the top, you must know someone to lead you
there!" This memorable life changing quote made me think about how important teamwork is
because without the method or ability to get along with others, you may ... Show more content on

This is a question I tend to wonder about when I'm stuck in a situation, and it seems to "shift" me in
the right direction. Equally important, teamwork has taught me how to be a successful leader.
Through team work I learned that some people are leaders, and others are followers, and that is
okay! It taught me that I work well as a leader, and am good at giving people tasks. Working with
other people can be difficult, but I learned how to overcome those obstacles and be a more
exemplary person. Also I learned, through school, that by leading a team, I am working and
motivating my group. To illustrate, a precocious girl is put with a group of her peers to finish a
project. The girls group was extremely unmotivated and did not want to work on the project. The
girl took it upon herself to give everyone an individual job, and inspired them to work. This is a
prime example to show how teamwork and work to create a successful leader. Lastly, teamwork
through sportsmanship has taught me to put in extra effort to get the results I want. Elbert Hubbard
once stated "A little more persistence, a little more effort, and what seemed hopeless failure may
turn to glorious success. I've learned that in order to have a strong team, you need to put superfluous
work. You cannot expect to get a maximum amount of results with a minimum amount of endeavor.

How I Went from Aching Loneliness to Blissful Solitude
It was an aching solitude. I sat in silence, ensnared within my chaotic mind while everyone's elated
voices stretched across the classroom like a contagious disease but my immunity was too study to
catch a speck of it. I was never a big fan of change, especially ones that strike you without any
warning. The transition from elementary to junior high wasn't the challenging part for me, it was the
fact that I felt alone. It never occurred to me that everything was temporary, even friendships.
Initially, going into seventh grade was absolutely petrifying, nearly all my friends was in a different
T.A., while in the other hand, I was placed in a class filled with unfamiliar faces. Everyone appeared
to be recognizable to each other, I felt as if I was an outcast, just a girl at the back of the classroom.
At that time, the most bothersome traits about me was that I was shy, reticent, and anxious. I swore
there must have been something wrong with me, how hard could it be to approach another student
and simply talk or just plainly introduce myself. Although, I attempted to be as optimistic as I
possibly could, I would still be able to be with my friends at lunch, afterschool, or parties. Another
part of me that was incommodious was that I clung onto my friends, they truthfully were extremely
supportive and entertaining people to be around, I cherished each and every one of the our memories
together but sadly, we gradually drifted apart. Instantaneously, even on the first

My fellow classmen, as we look back on our years here at school we should remember the

Seventh grade was a year of transition, (kind of a metamorphosis) a steady evolution from young
girls racing after Paul Stevenson to the more mature 2.0 version that comes from a daily diet of Fall
Out Boy and Ludacris. Ah, yes, seventh grade was a year of routy students, computer privileges, and
then?..the taking away of computer privileges. It?s a shame how much one little video and a few
dumb seventh grade girls can do.
Everyone knows the friends you make in eighth grade last a lifetime, and are we any exception?
Look around you, my classmates. As we have learned, these are the faces that will be with us
forever, even after they start driving or shaving. These lasting bonds come from pulling those all–
nighters before the big quadratic–equation exam (chapter ten I believe) and the grueling square

Too Much Homework: Why You Are Back In The Eighth Grade
Too Much Homework?
Envision...You are back in the eighth grade. After a long day of school, sports, practice and music
lessons, you had just got to bed a little after one in the morning. Why were you awake until one in
the morning? No, You weren't on your electronics watching Netflix, you were stressing over your
homework and your math test for the next day. Why didn't you complete your homework earlier in
the night? It's not because you were lazy, you didn't get home from all your extracurricular activities

upon to centralize all your attention on your essay due the next day and your math and social studies

Personal Narrative: Becoming Better
Becoming Better
I've always been an average student. Starting from a young age, I have never exceeded expectations.
Being surrounded by A+ individuals has made me feel less than others. Elementary school is the
time that I felt the most intelligent, being that there were no advanced classes to make me feel
degraded. It all changed in fourth grade when my friends were being accepted into Mrs. Husk's
advanced fourth grade class. I remember continuously waiting for the letter that I've been accepted.
Unfortunately for me, it never came.
Receiving the letter was hopeless for me. After a while, I learned not to wait anymore. I accepted the
fact that I wasn't getting in and that it was okay because some of my other friends didn't get in either.

Sixth and Seventh grade flew by and I didn't feel put down any longer. Throughout those years, I
still always had the highest grade in my english class, which recovered any confidence issues I had
previously. When I got to the high school in eighth grade, the circumstances did not change. I
carried nearly a one hundred percent in my english class every nine weeks. Towards the end of the
year, the guidance counselor came to schedule us for our ninth grade classes. If you carried an A
average in english, you could be in advanced english for ninth grade. This was the best news of my
academic career for both me and my mom, or so I

African American School Culture
I currently teach 7th grade at Park Middle School in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. As I reviewed the
multitude of data, a few specific statistics emerged. The population of our sending districts in 2010,
Scotch Plains and Fanwood, totaled 30,828. The United States Census Bureau predicts our total
sending population to rise to 31,433 within the next 5–7 years (U.S. Census Bureau, 2015). Even
though that increase is slight, our school district has implemented a full–day kindergarten program
this year. This data and new program generated the following questions:
Will full day kindergarten cause our district's population to increase exponentially?
How will we accommodate an influx of kindergarten students and therefore an increase in middle ...

What strategies are successful in seventh grade for African American students that are possibly not
employed in eighth grade?
How is our school addressing and reaching African American and Hispanic students? Students with
Disabilities?
Are seventh grade teachers fully preparing students for eighth grade?
Through the analysis of this data, another question arose: What is our school culture? In Chapter 5
of School Culture Rewired, we were introduced to the School Culture Typology Activity (SCTA).
The data above caused me to reflect on the 12 Aspects of School Culture, specifically collegial
awareness and communication. The SCTA chart describes collegial awareness as, "It's important to
know how much teachers in your school believe they can learn from colleagues–– not only by
talking but also by actually watching each other teach" (Gruenert & Whitaker, 2015, p. 70). In a
truly collaborative culture, teachers seek out each other to identify methods that are successful in
reaching and educating all students or even specific subgroups. With this in mind, I am curious if
teachers in seventh grade use curriculum that is more engaging for certain subgroups or employ
different methods of delivering information that increases retention of knowledge and skill than in
8th grade. Similarly, are we communicating enough between grade levels? According to Gruenert
and Whitaker (2015), "Any teacher can talk to any other teacher about

Personal Narrative: First Day Of Eighth Grade
First Day of Eighth Grade My first day of eighth grade was a reassuring experience. Immediately
after I was assigned my college I was worried I was placed in the average class, but as I stood
quietly in line I noticed familiar bright students. My first class was english with Mrs. Brisko who
told us two truths I can't remember the lie and one of the truths even though it's only been two days.
One of her truths was that she loved country music. She then asked us to do the same with the three
or four people around us. Since we were all a bit shy we wasted the entire time thinking about what
to say. Once that was over Mrs. Brisko asked us what rules keep a classroom running smoothly. In
the end we came up with a few rules, responsibility and respect. It was almost time to ... Show more

Next, I had Mr. Wheeler who my best friend was very fond of. Mr. Wheeler started of by
introducing himself and explaining what he's like. He mentioned that he was the polar opposite of
Mr. Attwood. Afterwards, we made name tags and wrote down what superpower we'd like and why
in four sentences. He asked us if we understood what the math standard meant. I used my small
knowledge of latin roots and context clues to figure out what most of the words meant. As a result I
received praise from Mr. Wheeler which felt magnificent. That was math class, which was great in
my opinion. Then, we exited the portable and formed a single file line for lunch. I brought my own
lunch and sat alone, until a few music classmates told me how horrible P.E. was and that they
relocated the room. One of them mentioned having to run two laps in under two minutes which
seemed impossible to me, since I'm extremely

Personal Narrative : The Peer Mentoring Teacher
Tell us about an experience, in school or out, that taught you something about yourself and/or the
world around you.
"...no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself." This quote by Ralph W.
Emerson echoed by our Ms. Marino, the Peer Mentoring teacher, inspired me to regularly volunteer
as a tutor and to try to embody this in my actions and my words. At first, I did not truly believe that
helping myself would help others. After all, how could I help myself when I guide others on simple
homework that I have done before? This mindset changed 180 degrees when I was encouraged to
become a peer mentor by this teacher. I was given the opportunity to be a mentor to several students

Through the internet I managed to learn new concepts such as JavaScript, how to use the bash

In my spare time, I enjoy baking. When I first embarked on the journey of baking, my parents

agreed. After all, baking a cake wouldn't be too hard, right? Following a detailed recipe from a
cookbook, I learned the basics of how to mix the ingredients and how to decorate a cake. The
instructions were simple to follow. Nonetheless, my effort turned to waste. I felt shocked and
disappointed. The expected soft cake came out hard and stuck to the pan. I was frustrated, but that
wasn't enough to make me give up. After another failed attempt, I decided to search the internet and
watch some videos on cake–baking. After I noted the steps used, I baked again, this time using some
of their techniques. Finally, a spongy cake came out. Throughout the process of baking a cake, I

Observation Of Students At A Seventh Grade Math Classroom
Observation of Student While observing the students in my classroom, I focused on how engaging
and motivated they were. The eighth graders at Pine Forest did not have a good seventh grade math
teacher, so the students are very behind. They know that they are behind because Mrs. McLamb tells
them all the time. Instead of it discouraging them, it motivated the students to want to learn. They
know that they must catch up, so I saw the students trying their best to stay focused and be engaged.
I noticed while observing that a majority of the class was engaged. I honestly was not expecting this
in a math class at 7:30 in the morning. The first day I got there, one student said they had the best
math scores in the entire county. So, Mrs. McLamb pulled the up the previous test scores and
showed them they were third. I could tell the kids did not want to be third and wanted to be first.
They found a reason to learn, and I think that is very important. I did notice that students were not
taking notes. I found this odd because it was obvious that they wanted to learn but they never took
any notes. One of my days of observing, I got to observe a seventh–grade math classroom. I was
curious to see what the seventh grades are learning to ensure that they are not behind like the current
eighth graders. The teacher was making sure the students learned what they need to know to be
ready for eighth grade. The class I observed was a group of AIG students. Like the eighth–grade

Wrestling Requires Two Things : Those Who Are Fearless
Wrestling requires two things: those who fear and those who are fearless. Two men face off in a
glorified street fight to determine whose hand will be raised and who will receive the pitiful

fearful stare down their shoes feeling the icy, petrifying stare of a man who wishes nothing more

these situations. From the sixth grade to senior year, my wrestling experience evolved me into who I
am today, and I stand proud of who I am and what I have accomplished. Those who have wrestled
will tell you wrestling remains as one's lifestyle, and they speak the truth. Wrestling has been a large
part of my life from as early as I can remember. The MacNellis family holds the sport and all it
teaches as sacred to life, and my dad being a nine year wrestler, it was forced upon us all. The cycle
consisted of my dad beating up on my 2 older brothers playfully, holding nothing back, and they
would both beat me up not so playfully. I was a crybaby, a momma's boy, and a tattle tale. Each time
Harrison, the middle child, would beat me up, I would go and cry to my momma. Of course, being a
mother, she would coddle me and yell at Harrison for being mean to her poor little baby. I had no

To my seventh grade English teacher:
Thank you. At the time, I despised all the activities you made my class do. I despised the months we
spent going over commas. I despised the books we were forced to read. Little did I know how many
of these thing would be used in the future.
I am now an expert in the usage of the comma. Those months spent doing comma practices at the
start of the class finally paid off. I appreciate Shakespeare in a way I would never have if it wasn't
for you. I remember struggling through A Midsummer Night's Dream as the thought of giving up
swam through my head. At the end of the book, you had us divide into groups and act out scenes.
Surprisingly, I had a great deal of fun. Everyone went full out with costumes and props. I also
understand symbolism and have learned how to persevere through particularly mundane books. We
read Animal Farm in that class. The fact that a story about farm animals could stand for real life
effects blew my mind. Additionally, for every paper of mine you 'lost' and that I would later find
right where it was supposed to be, I learned to be more assertive.
My love for English stopped twirling in the breeze and, for the first time, began to flicker.

Personal Narrative Essay : The First Day Of High School
It was the first day of my eighth grade year. I remember it vividly. I wore a blue button up shirt with
a pair of jeans that I cut to wear as shorts and cuffed. I had blonde hair that fell halfway down my
back and bangs that fell just above my glasses. I was excited and terrified at the same time. It was a
new year; a new start. The last school year wasn't so great. My mom was constantly going in and out
of the hospital which meant I was pulled out of school a few times. I had to miss a state test called
CDT because I was up all night with my mom in the hospital. The sounds of the machines were
reluctant to let me sleep. The hard hospital chair that a nurse gave me was uncomfortable to sit in,
let alone sleep if I even dared to try. I just wanted this school year to go better. As I said, I needed a
new start. I knew it would be hard, but I was ready for it. Especially since I was now dating my
friends ex–boyfriend. We had just started dating a few days before school started. I was so happy but
I was scared of what she would think. I was afraid of losing her as a friend but I did not regret my
decision. I walked into first period. Math; Algebra I to be exact. The teacher was Ms. Tennis. She
soon realized that I was ahead of the class and would let me get away with not paying attention. She

My Personal Statement On Trust
There are many things about me that I find hard to change, one of them is how I show affection. No

other ways. My "I Love You"'s usually take the form of "Call me when you get home" or "This

through trust. Once trust is given, it's the foundation of a relationship, in my opinion. I trust you not

We clicked only on the level that immature friendships can. We had similar tastes in cars, brands,
music, classes and an almost identical sense of humor. We weren't as close as we could have been,
but I thought we were doing alright. And then in the summer of eighth grade, leading into our
freshman year, the lies started. It was always common knowledge that, while we shared a common
friend group, we also had other friends that we enjoyed talking to. It was never a problem to him
and it wasn't an issue with me until I was told phony stories. I do not believe that I need to know
about every one of my friends whereabouts at all times; I am not their keeper and I am not their
family so, therefore, it is not my job. I also am a firm believer that a little lie has probably never hurt
anybody. Then I was put on the receiving end of the half–truths and, eventually, the frustration built
up. The overflow happened in a flurry of text notifications and dimmed screens.

I have always been told that being different was a good thing but why was it that when I realized I

young age, I always knew that I was different, not the kind of different like the girl who dyed her

I was able to stay that way up until fifth grade.
Fifth grade was the first time that I realized that I might be different. I was sitting on the bus going
home from school. I was looking out the window and pondering life to the extent that an 11 year old
can but I remember that I began thinking about my fifth grade teacher. I remember thinking about
how lovely and kind of woman she was. Over the course of the year, I would often think of her and
get excited when she would talk to me. I didn't really think much of it because I thought I just
admired her as a teacher. Because of my crippling shyness, I never went out of my way to talk to her
but I felt happy when she smiled at me or praised me. I even built up the courage to give her a hug at
the end of the year. When my female friends would talk about their teacher crush, I would agree but
then I would think about her. It wasn't until the end of year when I questioned why I would think
about her so often or why did I never have a crush on a male teacher like my friends did. For a fifth
grader, it was a lot to think about and the more I thought about the more I realized that I didn't want
to think about it. Fear struck my core the moment that I realized that something about me might
make me stand out. My realization caused me to live in a nightmare. Up until that point in my life, I

Test Names : Fry Sight Word Inventory
Test Names: Fry Sight–Word Inventory
Examiner: Amanda Stempihar
Date: March 5th, 2015
Text Number: 5.1
I. Assessment Description:
The Fry Sight–Word Inventory is an informal, criterion–referenced screener which measures high–
frequency word achievement. Fry 's Instant Words have been determined as the most common words
used in English ranked in order of frequency. Specifically, Fry found that twenty–five words make
up approximately a third of all items published, one–hundred words comprise almost half of all of
the words found in publications, and three–hundred words make up approximately sixty–five
percent of all written material. The first three–hundred words on Fry's list should be mastered by the
end of corresponding grade levels, and lists four through ten should be mastered between fourth and
fifth grades. Each hundred words are broken down even further into twenty–five words per list,
according to difficulty and frequency, and should be assessed sequentially. The goal of progress
monitoring high–frequency word mastery is to increase fluency on high–frequency words in order to
further automaticity within our students' reading, which ultimately impacts overall comprehension.
The inventory should be individually administered to students in order to accurately observe student
automaticity with the high–frequency word recognition. Elementary students are frequently given
this test in order to progress monitor high–frequency word mastery and general factors of fluency.

Why I Chose To Go To High School
3 years ago I was in the same exact position, an eager seventh grade that can't wait to go to high
school. Just like all of you, I wanted to go to high school so bad and finally be with the older kids.
As far away from all the seventh graders as I could get. All the teachers would say how much more
freedom we would get and it sounds like a dream come true. You may think they are just sugar
coating the whole thing, but they really aren't. I know it can be nerve racking and all, but you've
already done it before. Just a year ago you had to come up to middle school and sometime down the
line you had to make new friends. Yes you came up with some of the kids from your elementary
school, but eventually you had to find new kids to talk to with in classes, lunch, extra curriculars,
and the list goes on. This time you are moving up to a school again, but you are with all the kids
you're going to school with right now. It's an upgraded transition from elementary to middle school.
Times of having super strict rules are gone. Yes of course there will be rules, but your freedom will
open up. In some classes you get to pick your seats. There won't be things like silent lunches. I hated
having silent lunches, we would have them almost twice a week. I remember when I ... Show more

Speech On Motivation
Welcome parents, administrators, and classmates to the eighth grade promotion. After surviving
through three years of essays, assignments, and tests, we finally graduated. Everyone here has
accomplished so much in the past few years. For me, I was able to wake up early roughly 540 times.
If I have learned one thing during my time at MJS, it is that I'm not a morning person. Waking up
early was presumably the most challenging part of middle school, and in September, I will be forced
to wake up even earlier. Nevertheless, I will the find motivation to do so. An unknown individual
once said, "Desire is the key to motivation, but it's determination and commitment to an unrelenting
pursuit of your goals... that will enable you to attain the success you seek." The anonymous author is
certainly correct; commitment leads to success. With perseverance and hard work, one will
ultimately be rewarded with the satisfaction of succeeding. Hard work is a ship in an ocean of
challenges. A sailor must utilize a lighthouse to guide them on a safe path to the shore; just as one
uses motivation to help them strive for their goal. Furthermore, it takes determination to get through
this sea of trials. In 6th grade, we definitely showed a sense of determination. We were insistent on
learning the ropes of middle school. However, we first had to learn everyone's names; a nearly
impossible task considering we barely knew anyone. On the first day, we were all on edge; we just
went through the motions

Joining Choir Research Paper
Mistakes, everyone makes one joining choir can that be a mistake or not? Why is it that I joined in

beautiful voice, know how to read music which I clearly did not know how to do. Well, all those
things were things I thought. Maybe if I had had all those qualities I would join, but I did not so why
even bother to join it would have been a big mistake if I join I thought. Adding on, in a chorus there
would be so many new songs to learn, hitting the notes right and reading the music with all those
notes and rest notes. I also read an article that there was sopranos, altos, tenor and, bass in a chorus
which I had no idea what that meant. Anyhow even if I knew what sopranos, altos, tenor, and bass
meant at that time I would probably still think it would've been too complicated for someone like me

The Summer Of My Eighth Grade Year
The summer of my eighth grade year, I stopped reading. My memories are blurry. They are
fragments of disjointed moments, without a linear narrative. I remember reading. It was in Mrs.
Davidson first grade class. My reading proficiency skills were very poor, the English language still
thick and unnatural on my tongue. While some of the other students took a Gifted class, I had to take
a remedial course–English Learners (EL)– just so that I could hold onto the edge. I remember
reading. I had a hard copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar in my little hands, reciting only the first
page of the book from memory. The classroom was dark; the stream of sunlight filtering through the
windows served as our only illumination. The rest of the words on the book looked like a mess of
jumbled letters. I couldn't make out anything other than the words "the" and "and." I remember
enthusiastically pointing out my "fluency" to my teacher, seemingly applauding my menial abilities:
"The catpater at droo!" (The caterpillar ate through). In the first–grade, my free time was spread
sporadically between watching The Little Mermaid, catching ugly black crickets and pretending that
I was Sailor Moon, guardian of the galaxy. In the first grade, I was not at all concerned with words,
literacy and books. In the first grade, I did not know the power that words hold. I did not know that
books would change my life. After awkwardly stumbling through second–grade, my reading
proficiency gradually began to

Reflection Paper
Here I stand on the brink of adulthood, a daunting place to exist. I peer over the edge and gaze into a
chasm, bright but blurry. I am afraid. I am anxious. But I am hopeful. I am hopeful because I know
that my past has defined me, but it is my future that will continue to mold me. As my years as a
teenager draw to a close, I find myself reflecting on pivotal moments that taught me what it really
means to be a good human being. When I was in middle school, I desperately wanted to find my
place in the social hierarchy. I ultimately decided I fit in with a particular crowd that had similar
interests: video games, nerd hobbies, intellect, etc. I specifically remember instances where I would
express my thankfulness for this crowd I had inserted myself into. It breaks my heart thinking about
it, that middle school girl that wanted to fit in so badly that she threw herself into a group that
openly mocked and hurled jealous insults at her. I cannot look at that person as myself, because I am
no longer her. The culmination of these false friendships and façades of fitting in occurred on the
second to last day of eighth grade. I had seen the warning signs that these people were not good to
me before, but I ignored them for the sake of having a place. But it was in the moment that they tore
down the identity I had built for myself that the curtain was pulled back, and I saw with clarity that
these people were toxic. They told me I was not smart. They told me I did not like the right

thing that happened in school for the first day was when I realized I had at least one friend in every
class I had. Even if I don't end up sitting next to a friend in class, it was nice to know that I'd have
someone to rely on for help. Another great thing that makes the year better is that in most of the

Pressure At A Young Age
Since I was in the seventh grade, pressure has always been a part of everything I have done. This has
stemmed from a variety of different sources, mostly standards that I set for myself. Without these
standards, I would never have become the person I am today. The lifestyle I live brings pressure
along with it. But, I enjoy everything that comes with the way I live my life. Unlike others, I was put
under a tremendous amount of pressure at a young age in the classroom, and on the court. Pressure
may be in many ways, depending on the person going through a situation where it is present. For
me, pressure is when someone is asking me to do something that I cannot do. Unfortunately, many
times, the issue was internal. Most of the time, I felt like I could not do something, rather than
letting someone else do it for me. This feeling was often a major factor in determining whether or
not I wanted to do anything outside of my comfort zone. Once I entered middle school, pressure
began to set in. When I was in the seventh grade, academics became more difficult, and the work
load increased. However, as all of my friends did, I signed up to play middle school basketball. I
was very excited to play for a new coach, who happened to be at the time Chris Wheelock. After the
first week of practice, I was feeling very good about my chances to be a key contributor to a good
team, as well as feeling comfortable with my coaches and teammates. Then, after one hard practice,

Welcome To Eighth Grade

  • 1. Welcome To Eighth Grade First off, Welcome to Eighth Grade! It's going to be a great year for you , team 8–1 is the best pod there is. All the classes are so much fun but the top three advice I give to you, is do your homework! I know everyone says this to you in middle school but especially in eighth grade because your grades for this year go onto your high school teacher and you wouldn't want them thinking that you are too lazy to do a simple task like homework on a daily basis. Next always participate in class it's so much fun to do so I know people have fears talking in front of other people but in reality you're not going to see these people in five to ten years from now so who cares? The more you participate the more fun eighth grade is going to be. Last thing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Descriptive Essay I read the sentence slowly, examining each word making sure my eyes weren 't deceiving me. My mind went blank for what at the time seemed like forever. When I could finally gather my thoughts together I began to continuously re read the sentence. "Body found in Clinton near vehicle linked with missing LDHS student." Soon a lump began to form in my throat. Each time I read it my heart sped up, warm tears I didn 't realize I had shed dripped onto my phone, and my soul ached with sadness. I started to hyperventilate, sobbing so badly I formed a puddle on my wooden bathroom floor. I 've heard losing a friend is like losing a limb, but to me it felt more like everything inside of me had been ripped out. Nothing could have prepared me for this, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I guess the hispanic one noticed my facial expression because he spoke up. "My name is Edwin" he said with a confident smirk. He continued the conversation by asking me if I had any friends and I said a couple and then stated their names. they told they knew them as well. After a little more general conversation the bell rang and I realized I never made it to the gym. Before walking to class the short one asked me if I had a phone. I told him no I did not have one, but I did have an email address instead. They all snickered and I blushed, I was glad my dark complexion couldn 't show how heated my cheeks where with embarrassment. After we finished our conversation I turned around and headed back in the direction of my academy class with a smile on face. We all talked almost everyday after that, even when I began making more friends they were always there for me. Still sitting on my bathroom floor with a small smile and tears stained to my face. That smile didn 't last for long. I soon felt the tears begin to fall again as I thought back to the summer before ninth grade. That summer Edwin and I got very close, we talked everyday, all day. It was not an hour that went by that we weren 't talking. When the summer ended and ninth grade began we all drifted apart from seeing that they were still in eighth grade and I didn 't have the transportation to see them. By the time they started ... • 5. Personal Narrative: The Acceptance Of Mental Health It came in waves. It started when I was 14 years old, in my 8th grade year. While I have no idea what triggered this, I do know that it was a six–year long slope of mental health degradation pushing me to my breaking point, depriving me of sleep, energy, and my own identity. Unfortunately for me, my family has always been skeptical and critical of mental health issues. My parents always taught me that mental health is a scam and those who claim to have an issue are simply weak. So, it may not be much of a surprise that when I approached my mother about what I was experiencing, she screamed "No, you do not have a problem! You need to grow up!" Her words still ring in my head, and I still remember thinking, I am alone. I have nowhere to turn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I learned that it is okay to be different and to struggle. While I may have lost my identity on the way, and I have always thought that I was "broken" and "different", it is okay to be different. My disorder makes me unique, and while I may be difficult to deal with and I may struggle my entire life, I have a support system in place and I am learning my limits. I am learning to be myself, and to take off the mask I wore for so long. While these waves may crash on me, I am far from drowning in this ocean. I am learning to swim in ... • 7. Reflection Of My Personal Essay : My Philosophy Of Friendship 2 years ago, a friend taught me something. She didn't mean to, and the situation didn't lend itself to learning life lessons. But for whatever reason, this situation above all others really defines a piece of my life philosophy. I believe in being happy for others, rather than being jealous of them, when they get things you want. It's not uncommon to be jealous of a friend, and before eighth grade, I was often jealous of others. I was jealous that my friends had money when I didn't, that my male friends actually looked masculine while I looked like a girl, and that they were more experienced romantically than I was. The experience that led me to end this jealousy, like many events in my life, began with a failed romantic endeavour. At the end of seventh grade, I admitted my love to a friend I'd fallen for, a girl called Rebecca. She rejected me, to which I responded with mock sorrow and sarcasm, and we continued our friendship largely unhindered. The next year, in eighth grade, I asked out another of my friends, a girl called April that I was very close with. I got rejected, (by this point in my life, rejection didn't so much as phase me anymore) to which I once again responded with mock sorrow and sarcasm, and we continued our friendship largely unhindered. I felt a bit sorry for myself, getting rejected twice by 2 close friends and making life awkward, but I didn't really get hung up on it. I mean, it's not like I actually expected to succeed – I was the boy everybody called a "trap" because I looked and spoke femininely. Guys often had to clarify that they were in the right bathroom when they saw me there. I didn't know why anyone would date me – in their position, I certainly wouldn't! So I became jealous of my friends, for looking like their own gender, for being able to succeed romantically. What's the point, you may be asking, to all of this? Well, this mindset took me over for a bit. What's really important here is what encouraged me to break it. And surprisingly, it was actually April and Rebecca who finally got me to. As luck would have it, they had both rejected me partly because they were interested in someone else. Specifically, they were interested in each other. How's that for a plot twist, huh? ... • 9. Personal Reflection On The Eighth Grade At Constance... Sept. 10, 2015 I remember when I first met Sherlock Holmes. We were in the eighth grade at Constance Middle School. The school year was coming to an end, and everyone was buzzing with excitement, talking about their plans for summer and graduation. With one month left in the school year, people were being accepted into private high schools, and exclusive home programs that I could only dream of. Throughout all of my years of middle school, my grades were never satisfactory. I was all Bs and Cs, which was never good enough for my school. The teachers expected us to have a 4.0 all three years of middle school, and most students did. But I was never up to standard in my classes, although I tried my best to be. Somehow, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pretending I don 't notice his casual dress, I ask him for his name; although I already know it. "Sherlock," he replies, ignoring me still. Ever since I joined Constance, checking my grades had become a daily habit. With my average G.P.A being a 3.83, anything below a B– was shocking. So, when I checked my grades and saw my final grades were all Cs, I was not happy. In fact, I gasped louder than I have to this very day! Phone in hand, I immediately called the school counselor and set a meeting date. "Seems to me like a computer error! I recommend asking your teachers about this personally, but I bet they will tell you the same. These things happen!" Ms. Practi – the school counselor – bants. These things happen?! Not this close to graduation! I smile and nod, then thank her for meeting with me. She 's probably right anyways, it was probably just a glitch in the system. But what if it wasn 't? I think. Throughout all of my schooling, I had never been this stressed about my grades. First period blew by, along with second and third. Fourth period dragged on for what seemed like forever, but ended abruptly when an unexpected fire drill blared through the unsuspecting school. In chemistry, Sherlock and I were assigned as partners for our weekly summary. I took the chance to tell him about my grades, which, now that I think about it, was probably too inviting for our first talk. His interest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Personal Narrative Essay : A Walk To School I wake up to the sound of my radio alarm turning on. I hear "Good Morning beautiful city of Louisville Kentucky, it should be a nice day out. It's going to be partly cloudy with a high of 52 degrees and a low of 44 degrees. It's currently 7:01 am this morning and I'll get back to you after the break." Right at that I click the button to turn it off. I get up and get ready for school and I hear my mom yell "Emma come down and eat breakfast when you're ready!" After I get ready I walk down stairs and right away smell the pancakes and maple syrup. It's our first time this month having pancakes and I am so excited because pancakes is my favorite breakfast! I finally arrive in the kitchen and savor the fluffy pancakes in my mouth. I finish and head to the door to start my walk to school. Before I leave I yell out "Thanks mom breakfast was delicious! Bye love you!" My mom replies "Bye sweetie love you too!" On my walk to school all I can think about is how boring today is going to be since it's a Monday and we just started a new component in almost every class. The only thing I really am looking forward to are seeing my two best friends Jake and Katie. Right then Jake meets up with me on our walk to school like we always do. I wonder where Katie is though since she's usually with him by the time I meet up with them. I ask, "So where's Katie at today?" He replies, "I texted her and she said she's going to be late today so her mom has to drop her off." "Man she's never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. State Swim Analysis It was my first high school meet of the season and my nerves were on edge. All summer, I had been training hard to reach my goal of qualifying for the state swim meet. The event I had the best chance at was the 100 yard breaststroke. My time was only one second away from the qualifying time. As the race grew near, my nerves improved, and I believed that I could qualify. I stepped up onto the block, dove in, and swam my heart out. As I finished my race, I looked up from the pool and saw that I had shaved two seconds off my time. I had qualified! My family, coaches, and teammates all congratulated me on my accomplishment. Even though I was ecstatic at that moment, I knew that qualifying was only half the journey. I had a long road ahead of me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It may sound strange, but I love competing against my teammates. There's a feeling of comfort I get when I swim with others that I have known and trained with for numerous years. When it was time for the race, we all wished each other good luck and stepped onto the blocks. I wasn't nearly as nervous swimming in this race than my first state race because I was familiar with the environment and people. When the buzzer rang, I dove in and swam as best as I could. My time went down from my previous race, but it was less than a second. I'm convinced it was because I swam an awesome race the first day and my body was still recovering. When the meet results came out, I placed fourteenth overall and our girls swim team came placed sixth. We were very excited because only four individuals and two relays qualified to move onto ... • 15. Coach Chet's Effect On The Greenwave Girls Chance at Revenge Being in sports can be both challenging and rewarding at times. Being brutally defeated can make you feel like you're at rock bottom, while winning a championship game can make you feel as if you're on the top of the world. This is a story about a basketball team who finally stepped up to their biggest rival of all, showing the other team and themselves that anything is possible. The East Grand Forks (EGF) Greenwave Girls basketball team had been playing basketball together since first grade, plus or minus a few players. The majority of them played for the love of the game, no matter if they win or lose. They were no all–star team that destroyed and dominated every opponent they took on; just an average team with wins and losses scattered around the grid. There was one team in particular that the Greenwave girls could never compete with, and they lived in the same city. The Sacred Heart Eagles. Beginning in first grade, this team had never struggled to beat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their coach was Chet Carnivale. Coach Chet had been making a big impact on the Greenwave girls. It was late January, early February; the middle of the basketball season, and their record was 22–0. They couldn't believe they were undefeated. Taking on Sacred Heart at 4:30, the Greenwave girls would compete to win the championship game in the Sacred Heart Tournament. Time had flown by. The sound of basketballs bouncing and the squeaking of basketball shoes burning rubber on the floor meant that it was almost game time. The Greenwave girls were extremely anxious. Coach Chet had sparked a new confidence in them, and their anxiety and fear quickly turned into anger and determination to give their long–time enemy a taste of their own medicine. Somehow, the fear of destroying their record and losing a chance at revenge still lingered in the back of their minds. All of a sudden, the ref blew the whistle for the jump ... In 8th grade, I took Geometry for math class and Introduction to Engineering and Design for technology class. Currently in 9th grade, I am taking Algebra 2 for math class, Digital Electronics for technology class and Biology for the science class. What type of academic extracurricular activities/groups are you involved in? I really like science, math, and technology, and I try to learn as much as I can when I have free time. After school, I participate in clubs to enhance my skills. One extracurricular activity I do is Science Olympiad, a club that works to prepare for a Science competition against other regional schools on different types of science related topics. This club is a really good way to strengthen my knowledge in STEM related topics. Another extracurricular activity I engage in is Science Bowl, another club that prepares for a science competition in March. By participating in this club, I can improve my speed in answering science related subjects. I really enjoy being part of these fun and learning Science competitions. • 21. My Dream Life Ever since the very beginning of my life, it feels as if everything has always been surreal. My dreams and goals all took a long time to come together but they were definitely worth the wait; everything started to take shape during my first few breaths. Thirty minutes later into being born a day early, I was born to my mother, delivered by more than seven doctors, across the street from what is now my dream college. I was what both my parents enjoy to mention as much as possible, a very difficult child ever since birth; as I had independently decided I would rather be different and special, and I came out sideways. Which, due to my ingenious acts my mother who was surrounded by doctors, was in the best hands. When I was a kid, I dreamed of becoming someone that my mother would now days deem as an irrational and unachievable perception of a person. But regardless, my friends and I still pretended to live as if everything came easily to us; making dreams and promises that we could never live up to meet. Yet once I got older, to the age of ten and or eleven where my newly found dream changed to owning a bakery; that I would then inspirationally and ever so badly name it after my one and only childhood companions, my fat orange tabby cat named Percy. I knew everything about my orange cats bakery, to the interior, how I'd achieve getting the small bakery, to the degrees (business and a culinary degree) I must obtain to be as successful as humanly possible. • 23. Love In Love, My Love For Basketball Hello, my name is Tamara, and I'm in love with this sport. I'm 18 years old, a senior in high school. I'm a sprinter in the 100 & 200m & 400m events. It may not be much, but I just thought I'd share my story and my dreams simply because I enjoy doing so. It all started in eighth grade, I was 15. I never had any experience with sports whatsoever except for basketball earlier that year, and honestly had no idea what I was doing. I felt I had no physical ability and had low self–esteem when it came to my athletic ability. I was 4'6 and still managed to get on picked for the team for basketball, though probably being one of the shortest people in the group. Basketball has been a sport I've always liked, and realizing how hard it really was to actually play was a hard pill for me to swallow. During the period of the season, I spent the time in basketball off–season to practice on what needed to know and what can help me during next season. After the basketball season ended, our head coach called us all to the gym, and began telling us it was time for a new sport; Track and Field. she told us it was for the best of the best. We went outside and got all of our times. Being inexperienced, I was wearing casual high top reeboks that were extremely heavy. I did well. The next day, my friend encouraged me to try some old shoes she had, emphasizing how light they were. The time we needed to make to be considered for the team was 15 seconds on the 100m (keep ... • 25. Reflection Paper As I walk into school, I was shocked because of how different it was from elementary school. I look at my schedule, and go to my homeroom. The teacher seemed nice so I was already happy. She greets everyone, talks about who she is, and then we are called to the auditorium. We all stand up, and follow the teacher to auditorium. When we get there we are seated on the balcony, I look down and I see the 7th and 8th graders, thinking to myself that I have a long ways to go until high school. The principal walks in, everyone quiets down and listens. The eighth graders already knows who he is because they went here in 7th but the seventh graders went to the 6th grade center, sometimes I wish it was still opened but at the same time I don't because I am so used to it not being here. The principle talks about responsibilities, and how to be a successful student, when It was over, he dismisses us to go to 2nd hour, art. I am not a big fan of art because I am not very good but it was still fun. She talks about the rules, and phones, the main stuff and how not to use the paint. Then it was 3rd hour, pe, he talks about the same thing that happened in last hour. Then I had social studies, MS 101, English, math then science, and they all talked about the stuff I already explained. • 27. Spanish Teacher Interview Questions One tortuous question When I was in fourth grade, one day my Spanish teacher gave us a test with one question, which was to make an essay. My Spanish teacher was elderly, with rugged skin, and a very white hair. The part in which we had to create a whole essay was not the hard thing, what was hard was the question; it was to write about what we wanted to do when we grew up. In mere moments, everyone was writing, the pencils moved at light speed throughout the papers, except for mine. I was in a state of shock, I was frozen. "How can I know what I want to do when I grow up at this age?" I wondered. It seemed ludicrous to have such a question in fourth grade, but we had it, and my time was running out. My algebra teacher was British, but had an English accent, his hair was golden, his skin was like an extremely pallid red, and his eyes were green. The way he taught math was amusing, he used from people to objects, anything at all, and gave them mathematical properties. Today's lesson in specific was about parabolas in word problems, as the class advanced the grim in many faces vanished, except for very few people, I was among them. From the ones I noticed was the girl that sat in the front of the first row with abundant stygian hair, and brownish eyes, I can't seem to recall her name. Someone else was Oscar, a friend of my mine, who had short black hair, and sat in the last part of the row on my right. "I'm glad I came to Saturday school!" The girl in the first row's exclamation ensued nods from those who went to Saturday school and annoyed faces from those who didn't. "I didn't come to Saturday school and I get it. They shouldn't boast their luck or ability in front of others." I thought with an annoyed look, too. A hand flew up in the air from someone in the right most part of the immense classroom, and that person (who I'm not sure if he was Albert, another friend of mine) asked: "Why should we care to learn this? How To Write An Essay About My English Teacher Let's be honest, thinking of a teacher that was memorable for reasons that don't include, giving F's, giving homework, or giving detentions ... is kinda tricky. But there was one teacher who impacted my life in ways I never thought were possible. This teacher was my eighth grade English teacher. Yes I know you are all going, "You're English teacher? No way." Yes way!! I was honestly my English teacher who had the most impact on my life. Now, it wasn't exactly for what she taught me in class: dissecting sentences or finding different types of verbs or identifying the subject or doing lots of in depth research. But for the lessons of growing up as a mature human being and the lessons of life that impacted me. I'll be the first to tell you that I wasn't this teacher's ... My teacher reached out to me and told me she would allow me to take it at home. Yes, at HOME! I know the question flying through all of your minds, "Did you cheat??" Well I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I did not cheat on my exam. This teacher had found enough trust in me that she was willing to let me take my exam from the comfort of my own bed. I couldn't go behind her back and just break that bond of trust I had worked so hard to make. No one was watching and she would've never known, but I couldn't live with the guilt that would've feeled me every single time I looked her in the eyes. I know all you people are saying I would've, but would you have really? You all are going, "Well I would've cheated, I wouldn't have felt guilty," well I disagree. I can almost guarantee that almost every single one of you would've done the same thing I did. • 31. Autobiography Essay As a child, I was always outspoken. I was the typical kid that questioned any and everything I encountered. Growing up in a Jamaican household, my mom and grandmother gave me the name 'mout–a–massi' which was patois (our english dialect) for blabber mouth. The people in my neighborhood at the time loved me. I was outgoing and always ready to lend a hand. I can remember a specific times where an old lady by the name of Miss.Peggy used to sit on her steps and read her folklore poetry out loud. She would read at the top of her lungs and waited patiently for me to join in through my bedroom window. The stanzas became songs to me. She had recited these poems so much that they became apart of my everyday routine. " My body is the shield of my temple", She would say, and i would soon after follow, " What blasted man should go there". Miss.Peggy was big on self empowerment and having confidence in yourself. She was a role model to many young girls in my community. I think she was my major source of confidence and she helped to shape me into the outspoken 12–16 year old I became in the future. When I got to 3rd grade, my teachers noticed my charisma and love for poetry. I became apart of the Jamaica National Folklore Festival (JNFF). • 33. What I Learned in the Eighth Grade Essay Throughout my academic life, I have learned many essential lessons from being organized, to treating others with respect. However, my 2013 eighth grade school year has taught me the most important lesson of all, team work. Team work is the ability to get along with others, and it's the central piece of being respectful to your peers and doing your part! As my eighth grade year began, my teachers have taught me that getting along well with others is a splendid way to gain great success. They also mentioned, "In order to get to the top, you must know someone to lead you there!" This memorable life changing quote made me think about how important teamwork is because without the method or ability to get along with others, you may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a question I tend to wonder about when I'm stuck in a situation, and it seems to "shift" me in the right direction. Equally important, teamwork has taught me how to be a successful leader. Through team work I learned that some people are leaders, and others are followers, and that is okay! It taught me that I work well as a leader, and am good at giving people tasks. Working with other people can be difficult, but I learned how to overcome those obstacles and be a more exemplary person. Also I learned, through school, that by leading a team, I am working and motivating my group. To illustrate, a precocious girl is put with a group of her peers to finish a project. The girls group was extremely unmotivated and did not want to work on the project. The girl took it upon herself to give everyone an individual job, and inspired them to work. This is a prime example to show how teamwork and work to create a successful leader. Lastly, teamwork through sportsmanship has taught me to put in extra effort to get the results I want. Elbert Hubbard once stated "A little more persistence, a little more effort, and what seemed hopeless failure may turn to glorious success. I've learned that in order to have a strong team, you need to put superfluous work. You cannot expect to get a maximum amount of results with a minimum amount of endeavor. I sat in silence, ensnared within my chaotic mind while everyone's elated voices stretched across the classroom like a contagious disease but my immunity was too study to catch a speck of it. I was never a big fan of change, especially ones that strike you without any warning. The transition from elementary to junior high wasn't the challenging part for me, it was the fact that I felt alone. It never occurred to me that everything was temporary, even friendships. Initially, going into seventh grade was absolutely petrifying, nearly all my friends was in a different T.A., while in the other hand, I was placed in a class filled with unfamiliar faces. Everyone appeared to be recognizable to each other, I felt as if I was an outcast, just a girl at the back of the classroom. At that time, the most bothersome traits about me was that I was shy, reticent, and anxious. I swore there must have been something wrong with me, how hard could it be to approach another student and simply talk or just plainly introduce myself. Although, I attempted to be as optimistic as I possibly could, I would still be able to be with my friends at lunch, afterschool, or parties. Another part of me that was incommodious was that I clung onto my friends, they truthfully were extremely supportive and entertaining people to be around, I cherished each and every one of the our memories together but sadly, we gradually drifted apart. The population of our sending districts in 2010, Scotch Plains and Fanwood, totaled 30,828. The United States Census Bureau predicts our total sending population to rise to 31,433 within the next 5–7 years (U.S. Census Bureau, 2015). Even though that increase is slight, our school district has implemented a full–day kindergarten program this year. What strategies are successful in seventh grade for African American students that are possibly not employed in eighth grade? How is our school addressing and reaching African American and Hispanic students? Students with Disabilities? Are seventh grade teachers fully preparing students for eighth grade? Through the analysis of this data, another question arose: What is our school culture? In Chapter 5 of School Culture Rewired, we were introduced to the School Culture Typology Activity (SCTA). The data above caused me to reflect on the 12 Aspects of School Culture, specifically collegial awareness and communication. The SCTA chart describes collegial awareness as, "It's important to know how much teachers in your school believe they can learn from colleagues–– not only by talking but also by actually watching each other teach" (Gruenert & Whitaker, 2015, p. 70). In a truly collaborative culture, teachers seek out each other to identify methods that are successful in reaching and educating all students or even specific subgroups. With this in mind, I am curious if teachers in seventh grade use curriculum that is more engaging for certain subgroups or employ different methods of delivering information that increases retention of knowledge and skill than in 8th grade. Similarly, are we communicating enough between grade levels? According to Gruenert and Whitaker (2015), "Any teacher can talk to any other teacher about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The eighth graders at Pine Forest did not have a good seventh grade math teacher, so the students are very behind. They know that they are behind because Mrs. McLamb tells them all the time. Instead of it discouraging them, it motivated the students to want to learn. They know that they must catch up, so I saw the students trying their best to stay focused and be engaged. I noticed while observing that a majority of the class was engaged. I honestly was not expecting this in a math class at 7:30 in the morning. The first day I got there, one student said they had the best math scores in the entire county. So, Mrs. McLamb pulled the up the previous test scores and showed them they were third. I could tell the kids did not want to be third and wanted to be first. They found a reason to learn, and I think that is very important. I did notice that students were not taking notes. I found this odd because it was obvious that they wanted to learn but they never took any notes. One of my days of observing, I got to observe a seventh–grade math classroom. It wasn't until the end of year when I questioned why I would think about her so often or why did I never have a crush on a male teacher like my friends did. For a fifth grader, it was a lot to think about and the more I thought about the more I realized that I didn't want to think about it. Fear struck my core the moment that I realized that something about me might make me stand out. My realization caused me to live in a nightmare. Up until that point in my life, I didn't know that liking the same gender was something that I was capable of. Growing up, same–sex ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 63. Test Names : Fry Sight Word Inventory Test Names: Fry Sight–Word Inventory Examiner: Amanda Stempihar Date: March 5th, 2015 Text Number: 5.1 I. Assessment Description: The Fry Sight–Word Inventory is an informal, criterion–referenced screener which measures high– frequency word achievement. Fry 's Instant Words have been determined as the most common words used in English ranked in order of frequency. Specifically, Fry found that twenty–five words make up approximately a third of all items published, one–hundred words comprise almost half of all of the words found in publications, and three–hundred words make up approximately sixty–five percent of all written material. The first three–hundred words on Fry's list should be mastered by the end of corresponding grade levels, and lists four through ten should be mastered between fourth and fifth grades. Each hundred words are broken down even further into twenty–five words per list, according to difficulty and frequency, and should be assessed sequentially. The goal of progress monitoring high–frequency word mastery is to increase fluency on high–frequency words in order to further automaticity within our students' reading, which ultimately impacts overall comprehension. The inventory should be individually administered to students in order to accurately observe student automaticity with the high–frequency word recognition. Elementary students are frequently given this test in order to progress monitor high–frequency word mastery and general factors of fluency. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Why I Chose To Go To High School 3 years ago I was in the same exact position, an eager seventh grade that can't wait to go to high school. Just like all of you, I wanted to go to high school so bad and finally be with the older kids. As far away from all the seventh graders as I could get. All the teachers would say how much more freedom we would get and it sounds like a dream come true. You may think they are just sugar coating the whole thing, but they really aren't. I know it can be nerve racking and all, but you've already done it before. Just a year ago you had to come up to middle school and sometime down the line you had to make new friends. Yes you came up with some of the kids from your elementary school, but eventually you had to find new kids to talk to with in classes, lunch, extra curriculars, and the list goes on. This time you are moving up to a school again, but you are with all the kids you're going to school with right now. It's an upgraded transition from elementary to middle school. Times of having super strict rules are gone. Yes of course there will be rules, but your freedom will open up. In some classes you get to pick your seats. There won't be things like silent lunches. I hated having silent lunches, we would have them almost twice a week. I remember when I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The best thing you can do is join an extracurricular activity or a sport. This by far the best thing I have ever done. There are so many different clubs and sports for your interests. Almost every sport is at riverside such as cross country, football, basketball, lacrosse, baseball, track, and the list goes on. There is not just sports though, you can also join clubs like Academic Decathlon, ski club, SAFE club, and student council. Not only will you make more friends, but you will become more outgoing and find yourself having a ton of fun. You will get to hang out with upperclassman and the opposite gender learning how to be friends with them which is really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Speech On Motivation Welcome parents, administrators, and classmates to the eighth grade promotion. After surviving through three years of essays, assignments, and tests, we finally graduated. Everyone here has accomplished so much in the past few years. For me, I was able to wake up early roughly 540 times. If I have learned one thing during my time at MJS, it is that I'm not a morning person. Waking up early was presumably the most challenging part of middle school, and in September, I will be forced to wake up even earlier. Nevertheless, I will the find motivation to do so. An unknown individual once said, "Desire is the key to motivation, but it's determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goals... that will enable you to attain the success you seek." The anonymous author is certainly correct; commitment leads to success. With perseverance and hard work, one will ultimately be rewarded with the satisfaction of succeeding. Hard work is a ship in an ocean of challenges. A sailor must utilize a lighthouse to guide them on a safe path to the shore; just as one uses motivation to help them strive for their goal. Furthermore, it takes determination to get through this sea of trials. In 6th grade, we definitely showed a sense of determination. We were insistent on learning the ropes of middle school. However, we first had to learn everyone's names; a nearly impossible task considering we barely knew anyone. On the first day, we were all on edge; we just went through the motions ... • 69. Joining Choir Research Paper Mistakes, everyone makes one joining choir can that be a mistake or not? Why is it that I joined in the first place? Choir, you cannot say it is something anyone can join, members have to have a beautiful voice, know how to read music which I clearly did not know how to do. Well, all those things were things I thought. Maybe if I had had all those qualities I would join, but I did not so why even bother to join it would have been a big mistake if I join I thought. Adding on, in a chorus there would be so many new songs to learn, hitting the notes right and reading the music with all those notes and rest notes. I also read an article that there was sopranos, altos, tenor and, bass in a chorus which I had no idea what that meant. Anyhow even if I knew what sopranos, altos, tenor, and bass meant at that time I would probably still think it would've been too complicated for someone like me who was an incoming seventh grader who can't sing. My thoughts now from this are just pure astonishment, I can't figure out how I would ever think this I was so wrong about choir. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I recall I would stare at her and tell her "Nope, I can't sing remember". However, as always moms are usually bugging you until you do what they want you to do so I had to fill choir as one of my elective choices. Despite the fact, my mom didn't know I filled in choir as my fourth choice, which rarely gets chosen as your elective. I turned in my elective sheet to my sixth–grade teacher the next day. Secretly I was hoping I didn't get choir or the other elective I didn't want which I can't remember right ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 71. The Summer Of My Eighth Grade Year The summer of my eighth grade year, I stopped reading. My memories are blurry. They are fragments of disjointed moments, without a linear narrative. I remember reading. It was in Mrs. Davidson first grade class. My reading proficiency skills were very poor, the English language still thick and unnatural on my tongue. While some of the other students took a Gifted class, I had to take a remedial course–English Learners (EL)– just so that I could hold onto the edge. I remember reading. I had a hard copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar in my little hands, reciting only the first page of the book from memory. The classroom was dark; the stream of sunlight filtering through the windows served as our only illumination. The rest of the words on the book looked like a mess of jumbled letters. I couldn't make out anything other than the words "the" and "and." I remember enthusiastically pointing out my "fluency" to my teacher, seemingly applauding my menial abilities: "The catpater at droo!" (The caterpillar ate through). In the first–grade, my free time was spread sporadically between watching The Little Mermaid, catching ugly black crickets and pretending that I was Sailor Moon, guardian of the galaxy. In the first grade, I was not at all concerned with words, literacy and books. In the first grade, I did not know the power that words hold. I did not know that books would change my life. After awkwardly stumbling through second–grade, my reading proficiency gradually began to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. Reflection Paper Here I stand on the brink of adulthood, a daunting place to exist. I peer over the edge and gaze into a chasm, bright but blurry. I am afraid. I am anxious. But I am hopeful. I am hopeful because I know that my past has defined me, but it is my future that will continue to mold me. As my years as a teenager draw to a close, I find myself reflecting on pivotal moments that taught me what it really means to be a good human being. When I was in middle school, I desperately wanted to find my place in the social hierarchy. I ultimately decided I fit in with a particular crowd that had similar interests: video games, nerd hobbies, intellect, etc. I specifically remember instances where I would express my thankfulness for this crowd I had inserted myself into. It breaks my heart thinking about it, that middle school girl that wanted to fit in so badly that she threw herself into a group that openly mocked and hurled jealous insults at her. I cannot look at that person as myself, because I am no longer her. The culmination of these false friendships and façades of fitting in occurred on the second to last day of eighth grade. I had seen the warning signs that these people were not good to me before, but I ignored them for the sake of having a place. But it was in the moment that they tore down the identity I had built for myself that the curtain was pulled back, and I saw with clarity that these people were toxic. They told me I was not smart. They told me I did not like the right ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Personal Narrative: Coming To Eighth Grade On The First... Coming to eighth grade on the first day was slightly scary for me. I was afraid that I wouldn't have any friends on the same team as me and that I wouldn't have a class with any friends. When I arrived to the homeroom, school didn't start off as bad as I thought it would. Apparently I had more than one friend in my homeroom, which made things less awkward for the first time being in class. The best thing that happened in school for the first day was when I realized I had at least one friend in every class I had. Even if I don't end up sitting next to a friend in class, it was nice to know that I'd have someone to rely on for help. Another great thing that makes the year better is that in most of the classes, I've gotten to sit with friends. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Pressure At A Young Age Since I was in the seventh grade, pressure has always been a part of everything I have done. This has stemmed from a variety of different sources, mostly standards that I set for myself. Without these standards, I would never have become the person I am today. The lifestyle I live brings pressure along with it. But, I enjoy everything that comes with the way I live my life. Unlike others, I was put under a tremendous amount of pressure at a young age in the classroom, and on the court. Pressure may be in many ways, depending on the person going through a situation where it is present. For me, pressure is when someone is asking me to do something that I cannot do. Unfortunately, many times, the issue was internal. Most of the time, I felt like I could not do something, rather than letting someone else do it for me. This feeling was often a major factor in determining whether or not I wanted to do anything outside of my comfort zone. Once I entered middle school, pressure began to set in. When I was in the seventh grade, academics became more difficult, and the work load increased. However, as all of my friends did, I signed up to play middle school basketball. I was very excited to play for a new coach, who happened to be at the time Chris Wheelock. After the first week of practice, I was feeling very good about my chances to be a key contributor to a good team, as well as feeling comfortable with my coaches and teammates. Then, after one hard practice, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
