70s Music Research Paper
In mid 1960s the 8–track tape was invented which was popular until the late 70s. During the 70s the
Cassette tape was introduced, which became popular very quickly. The 1980s saw a revolution in
music technology, which was a huge upgrade in the music industry. Personal stereos enabled people
to play music on cassette tapes and listen to it through headphones wherever they went. Many
people began listening to music while walking, travelling on public transport or exercising. In the
late 1980s, compact discs (CDs) began to replace vinyl records. CDs were lighter and smaller than
vinyl records and offered a much higher quality sound. Slide 2 Popular culture began after World
War II in 1945. After this time music technology began to develop

A Short Story : The Blob : A Story?
It was just a normal morning, a hearty breakfast in a grey colored room with two windows and a
sofa. I was watching the newest episode of "The Blob", and I was holding up a cassette tape that I
received three days ago. The mailman had not specified who it was from, but it had my name on it,
though. I had listened to it many times and had no idea who this was from. All I knew, is that they
wanted me on their team of superpowered badasses to save the galaxy. The thought of traveling
space sounded amazing to me, and I wanted to become an intergalactic superhero, so I couldn't turn
down the offer. The weird thing was that they didn't say when they were going to arrive, and I was
left waiting the three days later to ponder about the cassette tape. A few minutes later in my
morning, an almighty crash explodes outside my window. Curious, I pull back my window curtains
and see what appears to be the wing of some blue and orange airship a couple of inches away from
the glass. And inside, I could hear two people arguing in the cockpit. One was dressed in a red coat
of sorts, and the other was strangely green–skinned and dressed like a warrior. "I was driving!" "No,
I was driving! "It's my ship, I get to decide who's driving!" "Well, you almost killed the new recruit
before we even got to talk to them!" Although the voices were muffled against the cockpit glass, I
could recognize the coat man's voice from the cassette tape. As I continued to observe the two, there
is a loud bang, a

A Long Way Gone
A Long Way Gone Ishmael Beah had a really tough life throughout his childhood and teenage years.
In his literary work, A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, Ishmael Beah uses symbols to
underscore his central theme of oppression and/or freedom. The three symbols he used to
underscore his central theme of oppression and freedom was Ishmael's AK–47, his cassette tapes,
and the drugs he used. Ishmael's AK–47 was the most important symbol that Ishmael Beah used to
underscore his central theme. At the beginning of A Long Way Gone Ishmael was terrified of guns.
He didn't want anything to do with them. But once he started in the war against the rebels, guns
were there to comfort him. He didn't want to leave his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Beah 15) The rap cassettes made him connect with his friends and family because they would all
dance and sing to them. Ishmael would resort to music when he just wanted to think or even just
relax. He would find security with his cassette tapes. When his cassette tapes were demolished he
had finally lost control of himself. "A soldier took my old pants and threw them a blazing fire.... I
ran toward the fire, but the cassettes had already started to melt" (Beah 110). That was when he
finally had completed his change to a whole different person. "Memorizing lyrics left me little time
to think about what had happened in the war." (Beah, 163). Ishmael Beah's rap cassette tapes had a
huge impact on his life and how he acted. Without them he was no longer himself, but a monster.
The final thing that encapsulated Ishmael Beah that was a symbol in A Long Way Gone was drugs,
which particularly were marijuana and cocaine. Drugs had change Ishmael into something he didn't
want to be. Once he started on drugs he craved them more and more until he would finally do
anything and everything to get them. Drugs made him want to kill others. They would go on huge
raids and kill all the rebels just to get some more drugs. "Sometimes we were asked to leave for war
in the middle of a movie. We would come back hours later after killing many people and continue
the movie as if we

Tune Out Persuasive Speech
Introduction: With technology advancing everyday it makes it increasing easier for one to be able to
listen to music at any place and anytime. Now–a–days we don't have to carry around big bulky CD
Players or walkman just to listen to our favorite song. This gives people the opportunity to listen to
music while they are walking to class or work. The Pedestrian Council of Australia demonstrates the
dangers of walking and listening to your music at the same time. The ad does this by showing their
audience an image of a teenage girl lying lifeless on the pavement with big bold broken up text
underneath her saying "Don't Tune Out." Underneath those words there are smaller Arial Narrow
font words that read "Stop, Look, Listen, Think". In this ad there is also a little yellow pedestrian
sign with the words "Pedestrian Council of Australia and walk.com.au" underneath the sign in little
black text. The Pedestrian Council of Australia is promoting that people pay attention when they are
walking with headphones in their ear and listening to music because it is easier to be unaware of

Just by looking at the advertisement and not even going to their website the advertisement still leave
me with questions. Like how many pedestrians have been victims of getting hit by cars because they
were listening to music. If this advertisement provided their audience with more statistics or facts in
the actual advertisement it would have been more effective in its appeal of logos. By showing their
audience staggering numbers or just numbers period would have made their audience go out the
next day and actually do what the ad promotes them to do which is "Stop, Look, Listen, Think" and
"Don't Tune Out" while walking. Without the statistics or facts the audience is left to believe that
this situation doesn't happen that often so this is less likely to help to

Analysis Of Thirteen Reasons Why Watching Clay
Thirteen Reasons Why watches Clay, as he returns home from his university to find a weird and
very mysterious package on his front door. When he eagerly opens the mysterious package it, Clay
finds seven mysterious cassette tapes with two sides each. Upon injecting them into his family's
boom box, he discovers they were recorded by his friend Hannah Baker, a girl that he went to
school with who recently killed herself. Her instructions were very clear, each person who receives
the 7 recordings is one of the reasons why she killed herself, and after each person has completed or
listening to the tapes, they must pass the readings on to the next person. If anyone decides to split
the chain and doesn't give them to anyone else, a separate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The 2 were introduced by their first guidance counselor, who wanted to give them a trusted friend
while they adjusted to the brand new school. Hannah never considered Jessica or Alex Standall a
very close or trusted friend even though they hung out a lot at a local coffee diner. Jessica and Alex
dated for some time and then later broke up. After the best butt incident, Jessica was offended that
Alex chose Hannah over her, and the two stopped speaking a lot. Jessica continued to bring up the
rumors about Hannah.
The fourth tape is addressed to Tyler Down, who stalked Hannah outside of her bedroom window all
time and took pictures of her. In addition to Tyler, though, the tape also describes a nameless girl, a
girl who Hannah knew somewhat well, and with her help, she helped to catch the Peeping Tom.
Hannah felt violated by Tyler as her privacy had been infringed on.
The story of Courtney Crimson is shown in the fifth tape. She is known as a sweet, mostly well–
liked girl, a personality which Hannah explains that she fell for. Following the event with Tyler,
Hannah began to feel very excluded by Courtney Crimson, and even when Courtney asked her to
come to a party she still felt a little bit of something going on. Courtney left hannah at that party,
and later Hannah found out that Courtney had been spreading rumors about the things she'd found in
Hannah's top dresser drawer.
The sixth tape is addressed to Marcus Cooley, who Hannah had become matched within a survey.

Ishiguro Narrative
Ishiguro employs Kathy with a narrative style which has a realistic touch to allow the readers to
realize her nature, She narrates the novel, So the events are based on her flashbacks and stream of
consciousness. she spends time to think carefully about what she says, as if she speaks personally to
the reader, she exclaims "I want to talk about such and such but first I'll have to go back a bit to give
you the background and explain why" (Ishiguro 138). according to Ishiguro, he employs Kathy as a
means to not giving too much information to the readers in order to keep the element of suspense
alive and at the same time foreshadowing an impending death. This style of narration also consists
of constantly switching which contributes to Kathy's disorganized chronological perception of time
and its significance. she mentions sometimes how she does not clearly remember certain events.

Dialectical Journal For 13 Reasons Why
Page after page, Thirteen Reasons Why captivated me throughout the entirety of the story and left
me weeping over the pain that Clay and Hannah experienced. Clay Jensen, a hardworking,
overachieving high school boy, received a box of tape recordings from a girl who he'd never thought
he'd hear from again–because she was dead. She committed suicide a week before and Clay was still
in shock; feelings to which I could relate. Clay scavenged around town for clues about her life as he
listened to the deranged voice of the girl he liked, Hannah Baker. He then learned her "reasons" for
ending her life: people and actions–like the sexual harassments that multiple boys put her through or
a death she felt she could have prevented–that left her broken and isolated. ... Show more content on

The idea of a teenager ending her life because of the people surrounding her is not uncommon
today. I, myself, have had friends that have almost ended their own lives because of how a boy
treated them or gossip surrounding them. Jay Asher illustrates the brutality and ugliness of these
situations in such an honest way that I felt like Clay hearing these words that change his life. The
book didn't have a happy ending either–Hannah didn't come back and Clay was left to deal with the
mess that lay in her path. Sometimes stories find a way for there to be a happy resolution, but for
Thirteen Reasons Why to be an authentic story it couldn't have ended happily. Suicide, and
specifically suicide in teenagers, is a real problem that needs to be acknowledged and prevented.

Bullying is at an all–time high, as a result of being bullied, many depressed adolescents, and teens
have committed suicide as a way to escape. Across all populations, genders, and race at some point
in everyone's life they have been the subject of bullying and or depression. It is obvious that
everyone is susceptible to the highs and lows of depression no matter their social status or age.
Conclusion
In this television show, Hannah realized she needed to seek professional help, at least once. She
decided to seek help from her guidance counselor, but he was not helpful to her, and very quickly
began victim blaming. As counselors, it is pertinent to help clients who are depressed and suicidal as
we must be aware of the signs. It is essential not to minimize our client's feelings and emotions.
These issues of bullying, depression, and suicide amongst our youth are too important to be ignored.
As a future counselor, I play a unique role in saving our youth, and advocating for those seeking
professional help.

Copyright Law in Canada Essay
Canada's copyright law is one of our hardest laws to enforce. The reason the police have so much
trouble enforcing this law, is due to technology. This law is very easy to break, and once broken, it is
very hard to track down violators. So although some form of a copyright law is needed, the one we
have has, too many holes to be effective. There are three main ways in which the copyright law is
broken in everyday life. They is audio/video tape copying, plagiarism, and software piracy.
The first, and most commonly violated aspect of the copyright law, is the copying of audio tapes for
oneself and friends. Thanks to the invention of dual cassette stereos, this has become very easy. You
simply take an original or even another copy of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Very often a student when doing a research paper will "accidently" forget to footnote his
work. By "forgetting" to give the author credit, the student has claimed the work as his
own. Another reason students may copy someone else's work is to sound more sophisticated hoping
that if they use someone elses words it will sound better than their own. Generally, this provides an
easy way for a teacher or the police to catch them.
Teachers also plagiarize rather frequently. Very often a teacher will photocopy several pages from a
book, in order to save the students the expense of having to buy the book for themselves. While this
is a noble act by the teacher, in most cases, this is illegal. Unless the author of the book, gave
consent for his/her work to be freely distributed, teachers can't copy it any more than students or
anyone else can.
The third category of piracy is Software Pirating. There are several forms which this can take. The
most common form is very similar to audio/video cassettes. It is when someone copies a game or
program from his/her computer to someone elses. As long as the two people have the same type of
computer, (they both have apples or IBM's) this is a very simple process, so long as the programmer
didn't put a bug into the program (a precaution they take against people copying their work).
Another form of Computer Piracy is a "cracker". A cracker is someone

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
In the book "Thirteen Reasons Why", Jay Asher shows that the actions that you make can affect
others. Clay Jensen comes home from school to find a box that is lying on his porch that contains
seven cassette tapes. After Clay finds out that the tapes are from Hannah Baker, a girl that
committed suicide a few days before, he goes to Tony's to find another way to listen to them because
Hannah said if you got the set then you are one of the reasons why. As Clay listens to the tapes
waiting to get to the one that is about him, he heard stories about other kids that did something to
Hannah. The kids ranged from being friends that turned on her to a peeping tom. One of her friends
put her on a list "best ass in the freshman class" and that started a land slide with everyone thing she

Hannah and Clay. At a party Clay and Hannah made–out and made it to the bedroom before Hannah
broke down crying and forced Clay to leave. Hannah was sitting next to the bed when a boy
dropped off his drunken girl on the bed then left. Right after that a kid named Bryce came in and
raped the sleeping girl. Then after her world kept coming apart see was walking by the after effects

Themes In A Long Way Gone
"These days I live in three worlds: my dreams, and the experiences of my new life, which trigger
memories from the past" (Beah, 20). Ishmael Beah writes about his journey through Sierra Leone, in
his book, A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier. He describes how he escapes the Civil War
of the 1990's. The quotation is a simple way of describing Beah's journey, such that during his time
running from the war, he feels as if he is living in different places. In the novel, Beah uses symbols
to underscore his central theme of oppression and freedom. The central theme will be proved by
analyzing Beah's cassette tapes, guns and his journey to New York City.
One of the most important things during Ishmael's journey to freedom is not only to get away from
the war going on in Sierra Leone, but the cassette tapes he values so deeply. Early on in the novel,
Ishmael and his friends are going from village to village to get away from the rebels. Upon arriving
at a village, Ishmael and his friends got taken by these men protecting the village. The boys had
their pockets emptied to make sure they had no weapons. Ishmael says that "[t]he guards walked
into the circle and started searching our pockets. One of them found a rap cassette in my pocket and

Personal Narrative: My First Virus
After playing the game I got the following results: Round 1;It's the spaceship for me!, Round 2; I'll

to take a tele–transporter, which would destroy my brain and body, and then teleport it to Mars and
create the exact same body and brain out of matter. The second option was to take a space–ship to
Mars, but the only catch was that it only had a 50% chance of survival. I decided on taking the first
option because I felt that if I had chosen the first option it would in essence kill me, and just build a

The Pros And Cons Of Analogue Versus Digital
Get a group of recording engineers together, and sooner or later the conversation will turn to a
discussion (probably quickly escalating to an argument) about 'analogue warmth' and how things
sounded so much better 'BD' (Before Digital) – and even engineers and musicians who've never
worked in earnest with all‑analogue systems (digital having become mainstream as far back as the
1980s) seem keen to bring this perceived 'warmth' into their productions.
What Is Analogue Warmth?
Not everyone has had first‑hand experience of magnetic tape recording and other analogue
recording technology, of course, but we've all heard and admired the vast back catalogue of classic
records made using this technology from the 1950s onwards.
There are many factors that combine to create character in recordings, ranging from instruments,
musicians and performances, through the rooms and mics used, to the ... Show more content on

understanding and technology have come on in leaps and bounds since then, and to my mind digital
recording systems can now deliver pretty much all that was once promised: a near‑perfect recording
medium that gives back exactly what was recorded.
That's great in some circumstances, but it's not always what we want: in many cases, the technical
limitations and imperfections of analogue systems have become an integral part of the quality of the
recorded sounds that we all grew up with – and the end result is perceived by many people as being
more pleasing than we can easily achieve today with all‑digital recording chains. Further than that,
some of the sounds resulting from 'abuse' of analogue gear have become recognised effects in their

How Music Processes Benefit America's Market
Music has been evolving and developing for thousands of years. Each generation has been engaging
in union with instruments and song to express sorrow, joy, heartbreak, life, death, love and so on. As
music has grown and become more popular, more ways to listen to it have been introduced. Besides
live music, the best way to listen to any artist is through a cassette tape. Cassette tapes show
beneficial purposes in economics in areas such as marketing, entertainment and the music industry.
Cassettes have been benefiting America's market because people have been buying them for
decades. The first cassette tape to ever be produced was in 1962 in Germany and was later
introduced to America in 1966. Reaching its peak in 1990, over 442,000,000 cassettes were sold in
the US alone; this even exceeded the amount of records that were also being sold. When a product is
selling at such a high rate, workers are needed to make the music, put together the tapes or sell them
in the stores. Not only was music made on them, but blank ones were sold as well so buyers could
put together their own mix for themselves, a friend or someone special. Cassettes benefitted the
marketplace because millions of US dollars were made from them and although they are not as
popular today, they are still an economic business from which the US makes money off of. ... Show

have the best quality that society has today, but that makes it even cooler to use. Overall, cassettes
are beneficial towards people today in that they are a reminder of how far music has come and they

You don't know what goes on in anyone's life but your own. And when you mess with one part of a
person's life, you're not messing with just that part. Unfortunately, you can't be that precise and
selective. When you mess with one part of a person's life, you're messing with their entire life.
Everything...affects everything.
That quote summarizes the domino effect that happened to Hannah that lead up to her suicide.
Hannah is taken advantage of from people emotionally and physically through her high school days.
One of Asher's strengths is his character development. Asher incorporated numerous characters into
Hannah's story and made it very clear to keep up with all his characters jumping in and out of the
storyline. Since each classmate has his own reason why he affected Hannah's life they each got their
own cassette tape dedicated to them. While Hannah is telling her story through those cassette tapes,
her friend Clay Jensen is the one listening, commenting, and making sense out of each tape.

Pros And Cons Of New Media
Old media like cassette tapes are becoming second–tier goods since the public would like to listen to
music through social media feed or visit their favorite music site with a cup of coffee in hand. The
new media technology makes people's lives more convenient in favor of the old ways of consuming
the music types such as social platforms and specific applications. I spend most of my time listening
to music on my smartphone applications whereas my dad spends his time with his old cassette tapes.
In this essay, I will identify the notion of overcoming limits in both physical and social aspects that
new media give us.
Generally, Cassette tapes are a magnetic tool for recording and playback. Over the last decade,
cassette tapes still offer do–it–yourself musicians, who record their original music in tapes and mail
to companies. My dad loves the cassette tapes because he is a rock lover who firmly believes that
the cassette tapes have magic behind it. A lot of the music applications lack a physical, tactile
sensation and collection. However, he sees my music application, which includes all the songs in the
1980s with lyrics and easy to find such as Spotify and Apple Music. For example, one of my dad's
bookshelf is full of the cassette tapes. It is hard to find a specific song or album in short time and to
get tangled up with tape afterward. I just type the name of the song in the search engine, usually is a
blank box at the very top. Then all the relative songs will form a list

Suicide: A permanent solution for a temporary problem
A person dies by suicide about every sixteen minutes in the United States. An attempt is estimated to
be made once every minute (mobap.edu). Jay Asher's novel, 13 Reasons Why, is told by a seventeen
year old girl named Hannah Baker, who faced substantial problems in high school because of her
classmates and the school's counselor. One classmate in particular had the most impact on Hannah,
which was Clay Jensen; Hannah's coworker, and most importantly her crush. Clay comes home
from school one day and finds a package on his porch containing several cassette tapes, clay listens
to the tapes one by one and goes around his town to understand and visualize each scenario. Due to
Hannah's problems she ends up committing suicide two weeks earlier and left the cassette tapes

passes out on her bed. While she was passed out her boyfriend Justin Foley (also on the tapes) let's

watching the traumatic event. Hannah states "I could have stopped it–end of story. But to stop it, I
felt like I'd have to stop the entire world from spinning. Like things had been out of control for so
long that whatever I did hardly mattered anymore. Hannah was in shock but she knew that

Although not surprised by the statement, the flicker of foreboding churning Tom's stomach rose to a
nervous flutter in his chest. He was about to find out what the search had uncovered, and he had a

"I dunno know, maybe," Booker replied absently. While the news was appalling, for Tom, the worst

he verbally and physically abused her. Hannah is left for Bryce's next target, and takes advantage of

nothing more to intervene, but he is unable to find the strength within himself to protect Hannah.
Clay is left thinking to himself in his head, "The entire time, I wanted to flip the closed sign over. I

How Did Hannah Baker Committed Suicide In Thirteen Reasons...
In the book Thirteen Reasons Why, Hannah Baker committed suicide. Before she died, she sent out

Magnetic Tape Essay
VAT reaches the last usable sectors on the disk. 7.6 MAGNETIC TAPE Magnetic tape is the oldest
and most cost–effective of all mass–storage devices. First–generation magnetic tapes were made of
the same material used by analog tape recorders. A cellulose–acetate film one–half inch wide (1.25
cm) was coated on one side with a magnetic oxide. Twelve hundred feet of this material was wound
onto a reel, which then could be hand–threaded on a tape drive. These tape drives were
approximately the size of a small refrigerator. Early tapes had capacities under 11MB, and required
nearly a half hour to read or write the entire reel. Data was written across the tape one byte at a time,

A stream of data is written along the length of the tape until the end is reached, then the tape
reverses and the next track is written beneath the first one (see Figure 7.18). This process continues
until the track capacity of the tape has been reached. Digital linear tape (DLT) and Quarter Inch
Cartridge (QIC) systems use serpentine recording with 50 or more tracks per tape. Digital audio tape
(DAT) and 8mm tape systems use helical scan recording. In other recording systems, the tape passes
straight across a fixed magnetic head in a manner similar to a tape recorder. DAT systems pass tape
over a tilted rotating drum (capstan), which has two read heads and two write heads, as shown in
Figure 7.19. (During write operations, the read heads verify the integrity of the data just after it has
been written.) The capstan spins at 2,000 RPM in the direction opposite of the motion of the tape.
(This configuration is similar to the mechanism used by VCRs.) The two read/write head assemblies
write data at 40–degree angles to one another. Data written by the two heads overlaps, thus
increasing the recording density. Helical scan systems tend to be slower, and the tapes are subject to
more wear than serpentine systems with their simpler tape paths. FIGURE 7.18 Three Recording

The first manufactured portable music player– The Walkman. In July 1979, Sony brought music
from traditional speakers and household radios to a portable cassette tape player – The Walkman. At
that time, music was not considered being personal or private but rather being shared among a group
of people, journalists doubted that anyone would want to buy a tape player without a record function
just because it was handy. However, the first batch completely sold out at the end of August and the
demand of the Walkman continued to rise dramatically afterwards, copious new models of the
Walkman were released, and by the time of 1995, the total number of productions of the Walkman
had reached 150 million (Johnson, 2011). These results demonstrate that the Walkman was a gadget

How Did Hannah Baker Committed Suicide In Thirteen Reasons...
The main character of the novel Thirteen Reasons Why, Hannah Baker, committed suicide because
of thirteen "reasons" that she divulged in a set of audiotapes. These reasons were people who either
bullied her in some cruel way, or just ignored the fact that Hannah needed help. Whatever their
crime against Hannah, each of these people affected her identity. Most of them negatively, but not
all.
One of the reasons in Hannah's audiotapes was Courtney Crimson. I believe that she had the most
negative effect on Hannah because she was the reason that everyone else did what they did.
Courtney spread rumors about Hannah that influenced how everyone else saw her, and even how
she saw herself. Courtney made it seem like Hannah was a horrible person, and so absolutely no one
would believe that she was actually hurting inside and planning on giving up. Even when she went

happened to her, and made her feel worthless. All of the other reasons in her tapes brought her to
that point, and the final one insured that she wouldn't leave it. Because of the cruelty of the people
she considered her friends at one point in her life, and the ignorance of those around her, Hannah
Baker committed suicide. She was so filled with the sense of hopelessness and worthlessness that

life such as family, friends, playing around and music just as any other young boy. Life went on. A
grave tragedy occurred during the beginning of the movie. His mother, terminally ill, was living in
her final moments while young peter quill was just outside in the hospital hallway, in despair and
denial. The only possession he had on him was a Sony Walkman with a cassette tape that his mother
had given him both earlier in life titled "Awesome Mix Vol. 1". While in the hallway he listened to
"I'm not in love" by 10CC. He was called into his mother's room and the family gathered around
while comforting peter quill's mom. She had a present that she had made him before she had to

marked in the order they should be listened to. He put the first one in not knowing what would
happen. Out of the speakers Hannah's voice is heard. He is in shock. Hannah is dead. How could
this happen? Did she make these tapes before she killed herself to tell people why? Through the
speaker was 13 peoples names, each on a separate tape. They were claimed to be the reasons she did
what she had done. She said to keep what was on the tapes only between these 13 people. She made

The novel consists of Hannah Baker's audiotaped explanation of her suicide and Clay Jensen's
reactions. It moves back and forth between these two character's thoughts and actions. By using first
person point of view, Jay Asher was effectively able to add a level emotion which the reader would
never be able to get from a third person point of view. This is demonstrated when Hannah says, "I
wish I would die. I've thought those words many times. But it's a hard thing to say out loud. It's even
scarier to feel you might mean it" (254). It is unbelievable to think that you're inside the mind of a
suicidal teen. Even though it is scary, it is the only way the reader is truly able to understand Hannah
Baker and the reasons why she killed herself. Furthermore, getting the reactions of a person on the
list, Clay Jensen, intrigues the reader as it is interesting to know what time the person's name will
pop up, what they did to cause Hannah's suicide and their thoughts on everything they're hearing.
For instance, when Clay is thinking to himself about Hannah, he says, "What if I got to know you
and you turned out to be just like they said? What if you weren't the person I hoped you were? That
more than anything, would have hurt the most" (207). With first person point of view, the reader can
understand Clay's thought process and have insight on what the other twelve people are going
through while listening to the tapes. Overall, it is very unique that throughout the book, the reader is
able to know the feelings and events of more than one person in the book, while still having the

The one girl whom she thought was truly her friend turned out to be using her. Hannah had no one
to confide in whenever she was upset. There was no one to notice how much she was changing as
she slipped deeper and deeper into her depression. Her own guidance counselor neglected her and
did not realize the how much help Hannah truly needed. Hannah needed someone to listen to her
problems and provide solutions or ways to cope. Whenever my friends are upset, I am always the
first to ask, "What's wrong?" I would hate for one of my friends to end up like Hannah because they
thought they did not have someone to confide in. I tell my friends that I am always there for them
and if they ever need someone to talk to about their problems, I am there for them. I suggest to my
friends ways to cope with stress or sadness, such as doodling or walking around their
neighborhoods. The way I usually suggest is to write all of the thoughts in their heads down in a
journal. I let my friends know that they are loved and that I would be devastated if something
happened to them. I believe it is important for everyone to know that they are appreciated and that
someone understands what they are going

Mla Citation For Thirteen Reasons Why
Thirteen Reasons Why is by Jay Asher. Thirteen Reasons Why Is about a young girl whose name is
Hannah killed herself but she wasn't buried with her secrets, her last words remain on tapes which
got passed down to someone named Clay. And the thing is those video tapes have the truth that no
one ever wants to hear. With that brings us the theme that represents everything which is the truth,
the truth is something people don't tell someone for certain reasons but the truth can also reveal
things you would never expect from others, that's one of the reasons that they're never represented.
Most are kept as a secret. Before I read the book I read the back, from reading the back I thought the
most common theme was friendship...I was wrong. As I said ... Show more content on

In this chapter (Cassette 4 side B pg. 190) there was a specific poem that stuck out me like a sore
thumb. Jay Asher included a poem called, "Soul Alone" by Hannah Baker. That poem had
descriptive language that expressed the dark parts of Hannah Baker's life in a specific way. A main
paragraph that stuck with me was, "My own mother, you carried me in you, now you see nothing,
but I wear, people ask you how I'm doing you smile and nod. Don't let it end...there.". That part
made me realize that so many people told lies about her that the truth never came out. When she was
suffering when everyone thought she was fine. That brings me to a theme, many people wear masks
to cover up their real emotions, it's not a good thing to do but it's the only way for them to survive
and try to fight for what they're going through. Another thing that expanded her thinking about this
poem was this sentence, "That's what I love about poetry. The more abstract, the better. The stuff
where you're not sure what the poet's talking about. You may have an idea, but you can't be sure.
Not a hundred percent. Each word, specifically chosen, could have a million different meanings. Is
it stand–in, a symbol, for another idea? Does it fit into a larger, more hidden, metaphor?" (pg 109).
Another theme for this would be, Sometimes people hide their emotions behind something, it can be
anything but the thing they're hiding behind shows a lot of who they truly are. The main parts of
these themes, is the truth of someone or

Never Let Me Go Book Vs Movie Essay
Kazuo Ishiguro's novel Never Let Me Go centers the main character, Kathy, and her journey through
her unique life. Kathy grew up at a place called Hailsham; she and her fellow classmates are all
clones, but for most of the story are unaware. They are clones with the sole purpose of one day
donating their organs to people who are their "possibles," the people after whom they are modeled.
Kathy becomes a carer, someone who delays their donations by volunteering to assist others in their
donation process. By being a carer, Kathy witness two of her closest friends, Tommy and Ruth, go
through the completion of their donations. In 2010, Mark Romanek adapted the novel into a movie.
In the movie, Romanek uses certain cinematographic techniques to capture the ... Show more

This may solely be due to the transition from one medium to the other. Today people are always
saying "the book is always better than the movie." This may be associated with the fact that movies
are attempts to cram hundreds of pages into two hours of cinema. Books, in theory, can include any
and as much information as possible. It is nearly impossible for a movie to capture every detail from
a novel, so directors are forced to leave out information. Many times, information they choose to
leave out is a critical symbol or scene to the story. In an article titled "6 Reasons the Book is
(Almost Always) Better Than the Movie" written by Rich Santos, he lists one of the reasons as
limited storytelling time. He describes that "most movies do their thing in 1.5–3 hours. A book is
edited and crafted, but the writer is still working with an unlimited time canvas." In this particular
instance, the director fell short in carrying the significance of the tape from paper to the big screen.
This is not necessarily due to the incompetency of the director, but from the difficulties associated
with turning a popular book into a well–made

70S Music Research Paper

  • 1. 70s Music Research Paper In mid 1960s the 8–track tape was invented which was popular until the late 70s. During the 70s the Cassette tape was introduced, which became popular very quickly. The 1980s saw a revolution in music technology, which was a huge upgrade in the music industry. Personal stereos enabled people to play music on cassette tapes and listen to it through headphones wherever they went. Many people began listening to music while walking, travelling on public transport or exercising. In the late 1980s, compact discs (CDs) began to replace vinyl records. CDs were lighter and smaller than vinyl records and offered a much higher quality sound. Slide 2 Popular culture began after World War II in 1945. • 2. A Short Story : The Blob : A Story? It was just a normal morning, a hearty breakfast in a grey colored room with two windows and a sofa. I was watching the newest episode of "The Blob", and I was holding up a cassette tape that I received three days ago. The mailman had not specified who it was from, but it had my name on it, though. I had listened to it many times and had no idea who this was from. All I knew, is that they wanted me on their team of superpowered badasses to save the galaxy. The thought of traveling space sounded amazing to me, and I wanted to become an intergalactic superhero, so I couldn't turn down the offer. The weird thing was that they didn't say when they were going to arrive, and I was left waiting the three days later to ponder about the cassette tape. A few minutes later in my morning, an almighty crash explodes outside my window. Curious, I pull back my window curtains and see what appears to be the wing of some blue and orange airship a couple of inches away from the glass. And inside, I could hear two people arguing in the cockpit. One was dressed in a red coat of sorts, and the other was strangely green–skinned and dressed like a warrior. "I was driving!" "No, I was driving! "It's my ship, I get to decide who's driving!" "Well, you almost killed the new recruit before we even got to talk to them!" Although the voices were muffled against the cockpit glass, I could recognize the coat man's voice from the cassette tape. As I continued to observe the two, there is a loud bang, a ... • 3. A Long Way Gone A Long Way Gone Ishmael Beah had a really tough life throughout his childhood and teenage years. In his literary work, A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, Ishmael Beah uses symbols to underscore his central theme of oppression and/or freedom. The three symbols he used to underscore his central theme of oppression and freedom was Ishmael's AK–47, his cassette tapes, and the drugs he used. Ishmael's AK–47 was the most important symbol that Ishmael Beah used to underscore his central theme. At the beginning of A Long Way Gone Ishmael was terrified of guns. He would find security with his cassette tapes. When his cassette tapes were demolished he had finally lost control of himself. "A soldier took my old pants and threw them a blazing fire.... I ran toward the fire, but the cassettes had already started to melt" (Beah 110). That was when he finally had completed his change to a whole different person. "Memorizing lyrics left me little time to think about what had happened in the war." (Beah, 163). Ishmael Beah's rap cassette tapes had a huge impact on his life and how he acted. Without them he was no longer himself, but a monster. The final thing that encapsulated Ishmael Beah that was a symbol in A Long Way Gone was drugs, which particularly were marijuana and cocaine. Drugs had change Ishmael into something he didn't want to be. Once he started on drugs he craved them more and more until he would finally do anything and everything to get them. Now–a–days we don't have to carry around big bulky CD Players or walkman just to listen to our favorite song. This gives people the opportunity to listen to music while they are walking to class or work. The Pedestrian Council of Australia demonstrates the dangers of walking and listening to your music at the same time. The ad does this by showing their audience an image of a teenage girl lying lifeless on the pavement with big bold broken up text underneath her saying "Don't Tune Out." Dialectical Journal For 13 Reasons Why Page after page, Thirteen Reasons Why captivated me throughout the entirety of the story and left me weeping over the pain that Clay and Hannah experienced. Clay Jensen, a hardworking, overachieving high school boy, received a box of tape recordings from a girl who he'd never thought he'd hear from again–because she was dead. She committed suicide a week before and Clay was still in shock; feelings to which I could relate. Clay scavenged around town for clues about her life as he listened to the deranged voice of the girl he liked, Hannah Baker. This law is very easy to break, and once broken, it is very hard to track down violators. So although some form of a copyright law is needed, the one we have has, too many holes to be effective. There are three main ways in which the copyright law is broken in everyday life. They is audio/video tape copying, plagiarism, and software piracy. By "forgetting" to give the author credit, the student has claimed the work as his own. Another reason students may copy someone else's work is to sound more sophisticated hoping that if they use someone elses words it will sound better than their own. Generally, this provides an easy way for a teacher or the police to catch them. Teachers also plagiarize rather frequently. Very often a teacher will photocopy several pages from a book, in order to save the students the expense of having to buy the book for themselves. While this is a noble act by the teacher, in most cases, this is illegal. Unless the author of the book, gave consent for his/her work to be freely distributed, teachers can't copy it any more than students or anyone else can. The third category of piracy is Software Pirating. There are several forms which this can take. The most common form is very similar to audio/video cassettes. It is when someone copies a game or program from his/her computer to someone elses. As long as the two people have the same type of computer, (they both have apples or IBM's) this is a very simple process, so long as the programmer didn't put a bug into the program (a precaution they take against people copying their work). Ishmael Beah writes about his journey through Sierra Leone, in his book, A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier. He describes how he escapes the Civil War of the 1990's. The quotation is a simple way of describing Beah's journey, such that during his time running from the war, he feels as if he is living in different places. In the novel, Beah uses symbols to underscore his central theme of oppression and freedom. The central theme will be proved by analyzing Beah's cassette tapes, guns and his journey to New York City. One of the most important things during Ishmael's journey to freedom is not only to get away from the war going on in Sierra Leone, but the cassette tapes he values so deeply. Early on in the novel, Ishmael and his friends are going from village to village to get away from the rebels. The Pros And Cons Of Analogue Versus Digital Get a group of recording engineers together, and sooner or later the conversation will turn to a discussion (probably quickly escalating to an argument) about 'analogue warmth' and how things sounded so much better 'BD' (Before Digital) – and even engineers and musicians who've never worked in earnest with all‑analogue systems (digital having become mainstream as far back as the 1980s) seem keen to bring this perceived 'warmth' into their productions. What Is Analogue Warmth? Not everyone has had first‑hand experience of magnetic tape recording and other analogue recording technology, of course, but we've all heard and admired the vast back catalogue of classic records made using this technology from the 1950s onwards. A lot of the early digital gear certainly didn't live up to the hype that surrounded it, but understanding and technology have come on in leaps and bounds since then, and to my mind digital recording systems can now deliver pretty much all that was once promised: a near‑perfect recording medium that gives back exactly what was recorded. That's great in some circumstances, but it's not always what we want: in many cases, the technical limitations and imperfections of analogue systems have become an integral part of the quality of the recorded sounds that we all grew up with – and the end result is perceived by many people as being more pleasing than we can easily achieve today with all‑digital recording chains. Further than that, some of the sounds resulting from 'abuse' of analogue gear have become recognised effects in their own right (tube overdrive and tape saturation being obvious ... Each generation has been engaging in union with instruments and song to express sorrow, joy, heartbreak, life, death, love and so on. As music has grown and become more popular, more ways to listen to it have been introduced. Besides live music, the best way to listen to any artist is through a cassette tape. Cassette tapes show beneficial purposes in economics in areas such as marketing, entertainment and the music industry. Cassettes have been benefiting America's market because people have been buying them for decades. The first cassette tape to ever be produced was in 1962 in Germany and was later introduced to America in 1966. Reaching its peak in 1990, over 442,000,000 cassettes were sold in the US alone; this even exceeded the amount of records that were also being sold. When a product is selling at such a high rate, workers are needed to make the music, put together the tapes or sell them in the stores. Not only was music made on them, but blank ones were sold as well so buyers could put together their own mix for themselves, a friend or someone special. The new media technology makes people's lives more convenient in favor of the old ways of consuming the music types such as social platforms and specific applications. First–generation magnetic tapes were made of the same material used by analog tape recorders. A cellulose–acetate film one–half inch wide (1.25 cm) was coated on one side with a magnetic oxide. Twelve hundred feet of this material was wound onto a reel, which then could be hand–threaded on a tape drive. These tape drives were approximately the size of a small refrigerator. A stream of data is written along the length of the tape until the end is reached, then the tape reverses and the next track is written beneath the first one (see Figure 7.18). This process continues until the track capacity of the tape has been reached. Digital linear tape (DLT) and Quarter Inch Cartridge (QIC) systems use serpentine recording with 50 or more tracks per tape. Digital audio tape (DAT) and 8mm tape systems use helical scan recording. In other recording systems, the tape passes straight across a fixed magnetic head in a manner similar to a tape recorder. DAT systems pass tape over a tilted rotating drum (capstan), which has two read heads and two write heads, as shown in Figure 7.19. (During write operations, the read heads verify the integrity of the data just after it has been written.) The capstan spins at 2,000 RPM in the direction opposite of the motion of the tape. (This configuration is similar to the mechanism used by VCRs.) The two read/write head assemblies write data at 40–degree angles to one another. Data written by the two heads overlaps, thus increasing the recording density. Many subsequent ideas after the success of the Walkman was based on the two main features of the Walkman, portability and privacy. Nowadays, people focus most of their time on these gadgets and somehow become tied to them, these gadgets formed a balloon around its user, detaching them from the real world. Pell (2010) stated that headphones and portability of new products reduced people's interaction with each other and it became harder for people to know each other in depth. Even in crowded environments, people seemed to be in their own world, it was not surprising that there are criticisms on how the Walkman made people anti–social (Wagstaff, 2010). • 33. How Did Hannah Baker Committed Suicide In Thirteen Reasons... The main character of the novel Thirteen Reasons Why, Hannah Baker, committed suicide because of thirteen "reasons" that she divulged in a set of audiotapes. These reasons were people who either bullied her in some cruel way, or just ignored the fact that Hannah needed help. Whatever their crime against Hannah, each of these people affected her identity. Most of them negatively, but not all. One of the reasons in Hannah's audiotapes was Courtney Crimson. I believe that she had the most negative effect on Hannah because she was the reason that everyone else did what they did. Courtney spread rumors about Hannah that influenced how everyone else saw her, and even how she saw herself. Courtney made it seem like Hannah was a horrible person, and so absolutely no one would believe that she was actually hurting inside and planning on giving up. Even when she went for help, she was ignored and felt that she had no one there for her. Zach was another one of Hannah Baker's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She had finally mustered up the courage to go to her teacher/guidance counselor Mr. Porter for help, and was once again ignored. She walked out of his room with her intentions clear, and he never followed her to try to help her. This act finally convinced her that nobody cared about her or what happened to her, and made her feel worthless. All of the other reasons in her tapes brought her to that point, and the final one insured that she wouldn't leave it. Because of the cruelty of the people she considered her friends at one point in her life, and the ignorance of those around her, Hannah Baker committed suicide. She was so filled with the sense of hopelessness and worthlessness that even though she knew there were some people there for her, she believed that they weren't enough. Just a young boy at the time, he was fond of the simple joys in life such as family, friends, playing around and music just as any other young boy. Life went on. A grave tragedy occurred during the beginning of the movie. His mother, terminally ill, was living in her final moments while young peter quill was just outside in the hospital hallway, in despair and denial. The only possession he had on him was a Sony Walkman with a cassette tape that his mother had given him both earlier in life titled "Awesome Mix Vol. 1". While in the hallway he listened to "I'm not in love" by 10CC. He was called into his mother's room and the family gathered around while comforting peter quill's mom. • 35. What Happened To Hannah Baker's 13 Reasons Why Have you ever been so depressed and upset that you feel like you can not live anymore? Like everything is just a waste of time? Everything anyone does wrong just pushes you over the edge. That is exactly what happened to Hannah Baker in 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher. Hannah is about 16 or 17. Just a normal girl in a normal town. Until she commits suicide. The town is in shock when they heard she did it. No one understood it. Until one day Clay Jensen opened his front door to 13 cassette tapes just sitting on his porch. He had no clue where they came from. They were all clearly marked in the order they should be listened to. He put the first one in not knowing what would happen. Out of the speakers Hannah's voice is heard. He is in shock. Hannah is dead. How could this happen? Did she make these tapes before she killed herself to tell people why? Through the speaker was 13 peoples names, each on a separate tape. They were claimed to be the reasons she did what she had done. She said to keep what was on the tapes only between these 13 people. She made it clear to make sure you listen to all of them or there would be consequences. So Clay did exactly what he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A guy smacking a girls butt is an example of this. This is what happened to Hannah. "A cupped hand grabbed my ass" (Cassette 1 Side B). She claimed that this was one of the reasons as to why she committed suicide. I am sure that all the other 13 reasons contributed to it, but I feel like this should not have even been put in here because of how irrelevant it is to why people commit suicide today. If someone right now were to come up to just about any girl in high school right now and smack their butt, of course they will be super angry. I do not think anyone would think of committing suicide over that. Of course you have no idea what is going on in that person's life at the time, but that is not a reason to be added to why you would have done it in the first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. How Does Jay Asher Use First People Point Of View In... Jay Asher's novel, Thirteen Reasons Why, begins with Clay Jensen, the narrator, receiving a mysterious package at his door. The package contains the audiotaped suicide notes of Hannah Baker, who was Clay's crush before she killed herself about two weeks ago. The novel consists of Hannah Baker's audiotaped explanation of her suicide and Clay Jensen's reactions. It moves back and forth between these two character's thoughts and actions. By using first person point of view, Jay Asher was effectively able to add a level emotion which the reader would never be able to get from a third person point of view. This is demonstrated when Hannah says, "I wish I would die. I've thought those words many times. But it's a hard thing to say out loud. It's even scarier to feel you might mean it" (254). It is unbelievable to think that you're inside the mind of a suicidal teen. Even though it is scary, it is the only way the reader is truly able to understand Hannah Baker and the reasons why she killed herself. Furthermore, getting the reactions of a person on the list, Clay Jensen, intrigues the reader as it is interesting to know what time the person's name will pop up, what they did to cause Hannah's suicide and their thoughts on everything they're hearing. For instance, when Clay is thinking to himself about Hannah, he says, "What if I got to know you and you turned out to be just like they said? What if you weren't the person I hoped you were? That more than anything, would have hurt the most" (207). With first person point of view, the reader can understand Clay's thought process and have insight on what the other twelve people are going through while listening to the tapes. Overall, it is very unique that throughout the book, the reader is able to know the feelings and events of more than one person in the book, while still having the novel be in first person point of ... • 38. Thesis For Thirteen Reasons Why Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher is a novel surrounding Clay Jensen and the late Hannah Baker. Hannah Baker had recently committed suicide and recorded her reasons for doing so on cassette tapes, then sent the tapes to the thirteen people she deems responsible, in some way, for her death. Clay Jensen receives the cassette tapes one morning and follows Hannah's instructions. She directs him through the city as he listens to her retell the events that led up to her suicide. Asher's novel has made me rethink the way I interact with my peers. I have learned how to detect subtle bullying and stick up for the person being bullied. Hannah experienced various forms of bullying throughout the novel. Some were miniscule acts of cruelty, primarily meant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was no one to notice how much she was changing as she slipped deeper and deeper into her depression. Her own guidance counselor neglected her and did not realize the how much help Hannah truly needed. Hannah needed someone to listen to her problems and provide solutions or ways to cope. Whenever my friends are upset, I am always the first to ask, "What's wrong?" I would hate for one of my friends to end up like Hannah because they thought they did not have someone to confide in. I tell my friends that I am always there for them and if they ever need someone to talk to about their problems, I am there for them. I suggest to my friends ways to cope with stress or sadness, such as doodling or walking around their neighborhoods. The way I usually suggest is to write all of the thoughts in their heads down in a journal. I let my friends know that they are loved and that I would be devastated if something happened to them. • 39. Mla Citation For Thirteen Reasons Why Thirteen Reasons Why is by Jay Asher. Thirteen Reasons Why Is about a young girl whose name is Hannah killed herself but she wasn't buried with her secrets, her last words remain on tapes which got passed down to someone named Clay. And the thing is those video tapes have the truth that no one ever wants to hear. With that brings us the theme that represents everything which is the truth, the truth is something people don't tell someone for certain reasons but the truth can also reveal things you would never expect from others, that's one of the reasons that they're never represented. Most are kept as a secret. Before I read the book I read the back, from reading the back I thought the most common theme was friendship...I was wrong. As I said ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this chapter (Cassette 4 side B pg. 190) there was a specific poem that stuck out me like a sore thumb. Jay Asher included a poem called, "Soul Alone" by Hannah Baker. That poem had descriptive language that expressed the dark parts of Hannah Baker's life in a specific way. A main paragraph that stuck with me was, "My own mother, you carried me in you, now you see nothing, but I wear, people ask you how I'm doing you smile and nod. Don't let it end...there.". That part made me realize that so many people told lies about her that the truth never came out. When she was suffering when everyone thought she was fine. That brings me to a theme, many people wear masks to cover up their real emotions, it's not a good thing to do but it's the only way for them to survive and try to fight for what they're going through. Another thing that expanded her thinking about this poem was this sentence, "That's what I love about poetry. The more abstract, the better. The stuff where you're not sure what the poet's talking about. You may have an idea, but you can't be sure. Not a hundred percent. Each word, specifically chosen, could have a million different meanings. Is it stand–in, a symbol, for another idea? Does it fit into a larger, more hidden, metaphor?" (pg 109). Another theme for this would be, Sometimes people hide their emotions behind something, it can be anything but the thing they're hiding behind shows a lot of who they truly are. The main parts of these themes, is the truth of someone or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Kathy grew up at a place called Hailsham; she and her fellow classmates are all clones, but for most of the story are unaware. Today people are always saying "the book is always better than the movie." This may be associated with the fact that movies are attempts to cram hundreds of pages into two hours of cinema. Books, in theory, can include any and as much information as possible. It is nearly impossible for a movie to capture every detail from a novel, so directors are forced to leave out information. Many times, information they choose to leave out is a critical symbol or scene to the story. In an article titled "6 Reasons the Book is (Almost Always) Better Than the Movie" written by Rich Santos, he lists one of the reasons as limited storytelling time. He describes that "most movies do their thing in 1.5–3 hours. A book is edited and crafted, but the writer is still working with an unlimited time canvas." In this particular instance, the director fell short in carrying the significance of the tape from paper to the big screen. This is not necessarily due to the incompetency of the director, but from the difficulties associated with turning a popular book into a well–made ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
