INDIAN FACE
INDIAN EQUITY BENCHMARK ended off the day’s low on
Monday on the back of a sudden bout of buying in the Oil & Gas
and Metals stocks. Indices had opened a positive bias tracking
overnight gains in the US and the Asian markets. However,
from there on markets slipped sharply and remained under
pressure throughout the day
Further, sugar sector was in action, After Govt has reportedly
taken a number of positive steps for the sugar industry such as
rise in import duty to 40%, raising ethanol blending to 10%
and extension of export incentives to September.
Punjab National Bank canceled its plans to set up a subsidiary
in Canada as regulatory clearances were taking a long time.
The bank had plans to open a subsidiary in Canada with a
capital of Rs. 100 crore. The stock closed up 0.25% at Rs. 954.
GLOBAL FACE
Asian stock markets were mixed, as upbeat Chinese
manufacturing data suggested that growth is stabilizing in the
region’s largest economy.
European stocks remained lower, as the release of
disappointing manufacturing and service sector data from the
euro zone continued to weigh.
U.S. stock pointed to a steady open, as investors eyed U.S. data
to be released later in the day, while the Federal Reserve's
latest policy statement still lent some support.

L&T IDPL, Tata Steel divests their
stake in DHAMRA Port
Larsen & Toubro Ltd has announced that further to the share
purchase agreement dated May 16, 2014 executed by L&T Infra
Development Projects Limited ("L&TIDPL") and Tata Steel Limited
("Tata Steel") with Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited
("APSEZ"), the sale by L&TIDPL and Tata Steel to APSEZ of 100%
stake in the Dharma Port Company has been completed.
Havells India plans sub-division of
equity shares
Electrical goods manufacturer Havells India is planning sub-division
of its equity shares for which it will seek board approval next week.
"A meeting of the Board of Directors of the Company will be held on
June 30, 2014, to consider and approve the sub-division of the
nominal value of Equity shares of the Company," Havells informed
BSE.
ITC crashes 7 percent on duty hike
fears.
ITC Ltd slipped 7% at Rs314 on reports that the government may
increase taxes on cigarettes in the upcoming budget in July. The
stock has hit a high of Rs335 and a low of Rs312. Report stated
that Union health minister Harsh Vardhan is seeking an increase in
tax on cigarettes of all lengths by Rs 2 to Rs 3.5 per stick as well as
removal of tax exemption granted to bidi makers
Sugar import duty raised to 40%,
relief proposed for mills
In a move to bail out the prevailing sugar industry, Food Minister
Ram Vilas Paswan allowed an import duty hike from 15 percent to
40 percent. While taking the decision at a second high-level
meeting on Monday, the minister also extended sugar export
incentives till September 2014. In addition, ethanol blending with
petrol too has been raised to 10 percent.
