Lyndon Baines Overcome Rhetorical Analysis
The Civil Rights Movement of 1954–1968 is a time of struggle and efforts for African American equality and can be categorized as a peaceful
movement of restless seekers of justice. But after the Selma to Montgomery March in Alabama in 1965, where many ended injured and one ended up
killed, President Lyndon B. Johnson saw this as his executive duty to show the nation that this was an American problem that we all needed to fix.
On March 15, 1965, a week after Selma, Johnson gave We Shall Overcome, a speech whose purpose was to motivate civil rights to African
Americans and make it into a civil cause, as well as gain support for a bill that rightly legally aids to this solution of discrimination. By using literary
devices, diction, sentence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This, in turn, aids his purpose as it brings reflection on familiar terms and people. In addition, he uses diacope in Lines 22 ("There is no Negro
problem. There is no Southern problem. There is no Northern problem.") where 'there is no ... problem' is repeated. This only emphasizes his next
line, which reads "There is only an American problem", which shows that there is no placing blame for the wrongdoings of this nation. With this, he
means to emphasize that we have all been a part of this problem, and we shall all be part of the solution. Lastly, Johnson also uses epistrophe in Lines
190–191 ("All Americans must have the privileges of citizenship –– regardless of race. And they are going to have those privileges of citizenship ––
regardless of race"), where the phrase 'regardless of race' is repeated. Using epistrophe has the same effect as if the speaker repeats the same phrase
'for the people in the back'. In other words, the use of epistrophe emphasizes Johnson's point that race does not matter in citizenship issues. Likewise,
Lyndon B. Johnson uses diction to make his speech's purpose more impactful and echo across the country. For example, Johnson avoids using the term
'U.S citizen' and instead uses American, or Americans. The word 'America' has more powerful connotations than using the term prior. Being a U.S
citizen is of legal matters, whereas being an 'American' refers to loving your country and being patriotic, and it has nationalistic connotations, and in

Examples Of Presidential Amendments
Presidential Amendments It's the year 2018, and a new President of the United States has just been sworn in. No one ever imaged that America
would have 3 presidents in the course of two and a half years. In 2017, former President Donald Trump was sworn in. His presidency caused a lot of
controversy and corruption between the american people. There were riots and protests, literally most of America hated our President. The hate for
President Donald Trump got worse as time flew by, which caused great stress to the president. The stress became too much for President Trump, to the
point he resigned from the presidency. Soon after President Trump resigned, his former Vice President Mike Pence became thePresident of the United
States. The 25th

A Successful Obama Inaugural Address
Shamik Patel Professor Valarie Writing Project #3 November 5, 2014 A Successful Obama's 2nd Inaugural Address On January 21st, 2013, Barack
Obama addressed the audience as the re–elected President of America in an inaugural ceremony on the West Front of Capitol. The speech was written
by Jonathan Favreau. In an inaugural address, Obama touched upon several important issues; immigration, gender equality, and economic reforms and
left behind the message that unity is our nation's ultimate strength. He was able convinced the audience that they should all work together to
overcome all issues and for a better tomorrow for the next generation. Obama successfully persuaded the audience by exemplifying that he was aware
of their issues, problems, and future needs. Greek philosopher Aristotle divided the means of persuasion, appeals, intro three categories; ethos
(credibility), pathos (emotionally), and logos (logically). Obama persuaded the audience with use of rhetoric and convinced them his arguments were
credible, logical, and appealed to them emotionally. In late 1950s, Richard Neustadt wrote Presidential Power and the Modern President, in which he
explained that presidential power is the power to persuade. Central motivation of this book was to advice new president with their strategic problem of
power and so forth. According to Neustadt, there are three significant areas that a president must be aware of and nurture while in the Whitehouse;

Comparing O Captain ! My Captain And Cool Tombs
Poetic Comparison of "O Captain! My Captain!" and "Cool Tombs" "O Captain! My Captain!" by Walt Whitman and "Cool Tombs" by Carl Sandburg
depict the death of President Lincoln, which reflects the willingness of Civil–War era Americans to sacrifice the safety of their president and the lives
of soldiers for the greater socioeconomic purpose. In "O Captain! My Captain!" Whitman employs a metaphor of President Lincoln as a captain of a
ship to illustrate the price of modernization, characterizing the Northerner's struggle for unity to supply the growing nation's needs. Similarly, Sandburg
employs an impartial tone in "Cool Tombs" to convey the insignificance of the individual person, suggesting that no one is spared when it comes to

They are all heroes during periods of violence, yet after their death, all conflicts are dismissed and their enemies are forgotten. The objectors of
Lincoln, the scandals of Grant, and the warring with the colonists are settled. The tone brings light to death as a finish line instead of a continuation
of the spirit of their time periods. Nobody "gets more than the lovers" reflects the ideas of equality present in the Civil War. The people cheering on a
hero and the heroes end up the same place as them– a cool tomb. Also, the epistrophe– every line ends with "in the dust, in the cool, cool, tombs"
further emphasizes the idea that everyone lies in the dust when they are dead, regardless of their fame or infamy. The treatment of death during the
Civil War emphasizes this communistic idea that everyone is equal at the end of their life. After all, even President Lincoln is killed due to the cause.

America 's Changing Foreign Policy
The Monroe Doctrine was an assertion of President James Monroe regarding U.S. foreign policy in 1823. In the Doctrine, the President denounced
European powers' any further attempt to colonize and exploit Latin American countries, while promising not to interfere any existing European
colonies in the Americas. The Monroe Doctrine was one of the greatest turning points in American foreign policy as it marked the beginning of
America's rapid development as a world power. Over the past two hundred years of history, the meaning of the Monroe Doctrine had been altered
multiple times in order to suit America's changing foreign policy. For example, in the 1840s, President James Polk used the Monroe Doctrine as an
excuse to annex... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, after the defeat of Napoleon in September 1815, three European nations – Austrian Empire, Prussia, and Russia – formed the Holy Alliance,
also known as the Grand Alliance, to endorse and strengthen monarchism. The rapid growth of monarchy in Europe in the 1810s greatly threatened the
United States and its democratic political structure. Amid such a crisis, the United States, under the leadership of President Monroe, issued the Monroe
Doctrine in 1823 without hesitance. This action suggested the braveness of the young United States as a nation in defending democracy and fighting
the growing imperialism of powerful European countries. In addition to the threat of the reviving European monarchism, the isolationism endorsed by
President Washington was also a driving force of the Monroe Doctrine. In 1796, in President Washington's Farewell Address, he warned the United
States of the danger to ally with foreign countries. The Monroe Doctrine implemented ideas mentioned in the Farewell Address by drawing an invisible
line between the Americas and the Eastern hemisphere, freeing the U.S. from any possible political alliance with foreign countries. In the political

Rhetorical Analysis Of President Obama's Inauguration Speech
The Inauguration address is made by the newly sworn in President of the United States every four years. This custom started, by our nation's first
President George Washington, in 1789 (President). Every President since Washington has given this speech. Presidents utilize this to bestow their plan
in the forthcoming years of the United States and ambitions for America. This is utmost one of the most important days in the History of America as
it signaled the birth of a new nation. In today's context it signals a peaceful exchange of power in the most disruptive of times. The speech is
primarily given out to the citizens of the United States, who need to know what the future holds for them; Now in a world of globalization and foreign
policy this speech is paid attention to throughout the world. All Inaugural addresses are similar. First they start with their greeting, then examine the
state of the nation, the newly elected President presents the issues of the country and the plan to solve them. After the President draws upon powerful
lessons and rhetoric to bring inspiration to the American people and finally closes off to end the address. President Obama was no stranger to that as
he has done that, like every President before him, not once but twice, in 2009 and 2013. Using rhetoric, President Obama grasps the attention and
impacts audiences listening and watching all over the world in 2013. The three rhetorical devices President Obama uses are: symbolism, anaphora, and

The Early 1990’S Were A Period Of Change For America. America
The early 1990's were a period of change for America. America was fresh off the ending of the Cold War and had newly elected President Bill
Clinton. This was the first Democratic president since Jimmy Carter, who led from 1977–81. Americans voted for change and Bill Clinton brought
forth that message in his 1993 inaugural address. Bill Clinton strongly and confidently addressed the world on January 20, 1993. He called for a
renewal of America through positive change and increased responsibility amongst American citizens. Like any inaugural address, Bill Clinton wanted
to reassure the citizens of the United States who voted for him; but, also wanted to gain favorability amongst the rest of the citizens. He appealed to the

There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is right with America. And so today we pledge an end to the era of deadlock and

Bill Clinton went on to talk in several paragraphs about the renewal of America. His focus was directly on the economy and investing in American
jobs. He said "we must do what America does best: offer more opportunity to all and demand more responsibility from all." He challenged young
Americans to a "season of service." To bring his point across, Bill Clinton used the appeal of ethos a great deal. He referred to past presidents and
scripture. "Thomas Jefferson believed that to preserve the very foundations of our Nation, we would need dramatic change from time to time. Well, my
fellow Americans, this is our time. Let us embrace it."(lines 35–36) He's implying that a respected former president says change is good and needed, so
why not now? "Let us resolve to make our Government a place for what Franklin Roosevelt called bold, persistent experimentation, a Government for
our tomorrows, not our yesterdays. Let us give this Capital back to the people to whom it belongs." (lines 57–58) The people are in charge again. The
Scripture says, "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."(lines

Osama Persuasive Speech
On May 2nd, 2011, the people of the United States awoke to some of the best news they would hear for many years to come; Osama bin Laden had
been killed. President Barack Obama delivered the message at 7:30AM and the country was buzzing about it for weeks after. Osama bin Laden was a
name that every American man, woman, and child knew. On 9–11–01, four planes were hijacked by terrorists and crashed into strategic locations to
sow chaos, confusion, death, and destruction into the American people. 2,977 innocent Americans died on that fateful day, and the man who decided
they should die and be subject to terror was Osama bin Laden. Since that fateful day, America has donated massive amounts of time and money to
find Osama, and bring him to justice. However, time and time again he evaded capture and kept us chasing him. In President Obama's "Osama bin
Laden Killed" speech he dives right into using pathos. He reminds the country of what happened 10 years ago on 9/11 and who was responsible.
This is such an effective strategy because 9/11 wasn't an event that only affected a few people, it was a day that shocked and enraged a nation.
Everyone in the nation was affected. By bringing it back up, Obama rekindles that fire of anger, sadness, and desire for justice in the audiences hearts.
Due to this, everyone is drawn in to everything he says after. President Obama starts his speech off with this "Good evening. Tonight, I can report to

Proud My Heritage
I am proud of my heritage, my melanin and my culture. I will not hide my skin because someone else is biased and ignorant. Many people before me
have made history and have paved the way for future generations of African–Americans to do something great. They've became doctors, lawyers,
engineers–– and yet no one has recognized the great things the people of my culture have done. People are not proud of their heritage, they never
want to praise those who came before them. People like Madam Efunroye Tinubu, Claudette Colvin and Henry McNeal Turner paved the way for
African–Americans to have a cultural identity. I am proud to be an African–American and proud to be apart of a tight knit, community–like culture.

changing economy, and technological changes all account for our current modern presidency.
Many Americans agree that the U.S. should play an active role in world affairs. Representing the United States, the President needs to show his level
of leadership and power. The President plays eight significant roles all of which prove his control, he is the symbol of the American people. With the
significant leadership role shown to the world the President's responsibilities have grown parallel to his position as a powerful executive.

The Pros And Cons Of The United States Presidential System
Everything in life is not perfect whether it concerns humans or even the government. According to Merriam–Webster dictionary, government can be
defined as, "the group of people who control and make decisions for a country, state, etc." Government can be organized in variety of ways, in order
to control a civilized society. For example, a government can either be structured as a presidential system or even multi–party parliamentary system. The
United States government uses a presidential system in order to govern their nation. However, Professor Christopher S. Allen believes that the United
States presidential system contains many flaws. Professor Allen's reasoning that the multi–party parliamentary system may help overcome the core
institutional blockages of the American presidential system is correct because it would result in an effective form of government where voting rates,
costly campaigning cost, confusion of roles and political accountability would mend the political structure in United States leading to prosperity for the
nation. Professor Allen believes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

"Under divided government, when all is well, each of the two parties claims responsibility... when economic or political polices turn sour... each party
blames the other" (Allen 143) it reveals that the United States lack political accountability and that the government is inefficient. Where on the other
hand, if there was a multi–party parliamentary system than the parties would take credit or blame equally. As a result, there would be union between
the legislature and executive resulting in a true accountability which is necessary for a nation in order to solve the problem faster and

Rhetorical Analysis Of John F. Kennedy's Speech
In 1962, The United States of America was fighting off financial ruin and the Vietnamese, as well as powerful business leaders. Spikes in the price
of iron and wages for iron workers threw the unsteady economy, back in the hole. The President at the time, John F. Kennedy, made a speech to the
United States' citizens concerning these issues. He used many techniques to get his point across, such as a powerful vocation, an appeal to
patriotism, and factual data. President Kennedy's uses a great deal of factual evidence to prove his point. He uses numerical data and fact based
predictions statistics, to appeal to the audience's sense of common reasoning. The nmber make the argument easier to agree with because numbers are
usually taken as facts not tainted by emotion or human will. When talking about the steel workers unions in lines 46 to 74, President Kennedy uses
it a direct quotation from a report by a federal agency. A time period and an amount of money are used in the end of the paragraph 8. A tactic that

Rhetorical Analysis Of Margaret Thatcher's Speech
If someone were to pick up a book in a bookshop, what would make them want to buy it? They would look to the back, reading the reviews by well

compared to a eulogy, the speech Е«given at one's funeral. It'd have to sell the idea of a person, making whoever read or heard it feel an admiration

From her calling Reagan "Ronnie" (Line 23), to referring to him as her friend. It gives the audience a sense of sadness, feeling her attachment to

approach to problems would push the idea of how good of a person and an American she believed him to be. "In the terrible hours after the attempt
on his life, his easy jokes gave reassurance to an anxious world" (Line 17), this quote gives an example of his easygoing attitude, even with death
staring him in the face. It could be considered how highly admirable and brave one must be to do so. When Thatcher says "He sought to mend
America's wounded spirit..." (Line 5) it appeals to the American people, by illustrating his passion for his country. Even in her introduction, where she

Loa Dylan To Me Essay
Dylan further represents America as a place with significant corruption and misconduct within the song. Verse 12 reads; "Bent out of shape from
society's pliers, Cares not to come up any higher, But rather get you down in the hole". This line plays into the idea of keeping the human machine
running, "society's pliers" shape a person – much like the aforementioned "everyman" completing his nine–to–five job to feed "the system". However,
this line blatantly mentions "But rather get you down in the hole". The idea of trying to keep particular people down through the systematic means of
government relates to the oppression of black Americans of the time. "Keeping certain people down" for the government's benefit is clearly what the
US government did to black Americans – in an institutionalised fashion. Institutional racism in the housing sector can be seen as early as the 1930s

However, funnily enough, through Dylan's representing the blights of American culture in his songs, the American people were able to reflect on

United States Economy
According to the U.S. Labor Statistics 2011 report, when President Obama took office, the economy was shedding nearly 800,000 jobs each month and
millions of families were unable to make ends meet. African Americans were hit especially hard by the recession struggling with significant economic
losses, including near–record high levels of unemployment and low average earnings (U.S. Labor Statistics 2011). From day one the President has
made turning the economy around a top priority, and the policies enacted through the Recovery Act of 2009 have had a significant impact on the
country's economic well–being. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the Recovery Act and later expansions and extensions kept
1.3 million African Americans above the poverty line last year alone (Sherman 2009). And this year, the continued expansion of just two tax credits–
the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child tax Credit– has benefited an estimated 2.2 million African American families and almost half of all
African American children. The targeted tax relief enacted by President Obama through both the Recovery Act and the December tax Deal has
provided relief to nearly every American, helping them bear the brunt of the recession and supporting them as the economy has recovered (The

the rough riders early before there was sufficient space for all the troops, equiptment, and horses. One fourth of the men in the regiment were left

Boston Marathon Bombing Speech Essay
In his speech at the Interfaith Service after the Boston Marathon bombings, President Obama effectively used language to describe the tragedy that
had occurred, reference people who were affected by the events, and to encourage the nation to stand up and stay strong. This use of language
allowed him to capture the attention of the audience and clearly make his point known. President Obama's use of language painted a picture of
Boston, both before and after the bombings, and brought forward emotions from those who heard his speech. Use of imagery was essential in the
President's speech, as it allowed him to describe Boston in a way that made the entire country feel as though they were directly involved in the attack,
even though the majority were not involved at all. Phrases such as "sunlight glistened off the statehouse dome" and "spring was in bloom" allowed
those listening to or reading President Obama's speech to feel as though they were there that morning and sense the peace that had been there before
the bombings took place. Another use of imagery, "her red hair and her freckles and her ever–eager willingness to speak her mind" allowed spectators
to develop a picture in their minds of one of the victims. Being able to picture the victims forged an emotional attachment that made everyone want to

The overall tone was encouraging to the American population, while still being threatening to those that caused the bombings. Had this speech been
delivered in a different tone, the meaning could have come across completely different. The tone that President Obama used was one of the major
reasons that the language used in this speech was so effective. Without the correct tone, the meaning of the words would have been distorted from their
original meaning to something that could possibly have been completely

Death Of A Leader In Walt Whitman's O Captain My Captain
Many Leaders lack the ability to move people. Mourning the death of a leader is an even bigger task to take on. Abraham Lincoln, in this case was an
exception. In the famous poem, "O Captain! My Captain!" Written by, Walt Whitman in the year 1865. The poem, refers to a terrible event in American
history; the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Instead of the country celebrating and rejoicing over the ending of the Civil War and being
happy over the country being kept whole, everyone was mourning in the loss of their leader. Aboard a ship, the poem is about a fellow sailor
grieving from the loss of his captain. The sailor in the poem is singing a song that praises his captain for leading them safely on their voyage and
leading them back home. As the other sailors are celebrating their homecoming with everyone on shore, the sailor notices the captain. He is dead,
lying on the deck of the ship "fallen cold and dead"(line 8). The sailor goes on and mournfully walks on the deck where the captain had died while
the people on shore are unaware of their fallen leader. " Rise up and hear the bells;"(Line 9). The sailor says wishing his captain could witness the
excitement. Everyone adored the captain and admitted that his death feels like a terrible dream, " It is some dream that on the deck, you've fallen cold
and dead." (Lines 15–16). Then in the final stanza of the poem, the sailor puts together his feelings of mourning and pride. (Whitman)

Ronald Reagan Rhetorical Analysis Essay
When one thinks about the United States of America, images of our proud red, white, and blue flag, equal opportunity, and freedom should flit through
the mind. When one thinks about American tragedy, devastating images of the September 11th attacks and the death of a beloved president should call
tears to the eye. When one thinks about the tragic death of former president Ronald Reagan, both of the aforementioned actions occur; he was the
embodiment of what America stands for and his death called many tears to the eyes of Americans all over. In her eulogy honoring Ronald Reagan,
Margaret Thatcher remembers her friend and urges his mourners to remember and honor him as the great man he proved himself to be. She uses strong

In this opening sentence, she repeats the word "great" three times to emphasize Reagan's tremendously positive influence on the world. Then,
however, she changes to the adjective "dear" when describing how she lost him as her close friend. This abrupt transition to a much more intimate
and sentimental "dear" serves as a powerful example of both ethos and pathos. With this singular word, Thatcher reveals to her audience that, not
only were she and Reagan political allies, they were true friends with a relationship separate from work. This not only serves to win her sympathy
from her already emotional auditors, it grants her the credibility to deliver his eulogy; she proves that yes, she has the ability to speak about his life
from a personal, meaningful perspective. Another clear instance of Thatcher's ethical appeal is evident in, "As Prime Minister, I worked closely... for
eight of the most important years... of our lives," (Thatcher, lines 54–56). In this statement, she cites how she knew Reagan as well as why their
relationship was important from a political standpoint. This acknowledgment of their professional relationship is important because it shows that their
friendship was multidimensional and had several layers – all of which Thatcher is able to draw upon to deliver his

Kate Chopin's The Story Of An Hour
In Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour" she had a lead female character who, at this time, was considered to be controversial. In America at this
time, women were not to have a voice of their own and for the lead character to have her own voice and who defies the male dominance of the 19th
century. It was uncommon for a women of the 19th century to find joy in finding out that her husband was suddenly killed. The lines "Free! Body and
soul free!" (Paragraph 14) suggest that she felt trapped being with her husband and now that he's dead she's finally free. This is something that I'm sure
many American women in this time period felt. In Walt Whitman's "O Captain! My Captain!" he uses a lot of symbolism to relate to the United States

Franklin D Roosevelt Ethos Pathos Logos
December 7, 1941 is a day that will live with us forever. On December 8, 1941, the next day, President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave one of the most
patriotic speeches this country has heard. He used several different rhetorical devices, Ethos, Pathos, Logos, to strengthen his argument. His speech
was an argument that was trying to get his fellow americans to stand up and fight for our freedom. He came across many groups of people who
were totally against going to war but his speech was very logical and filled with emotion many of his fellow Americans backed his idea. Since,
President Roosevelt had won over the majority of the americans he was able to get us ready to go to war and avenge Pearl Harbor. When the country

In most patriotic or any speeches given in history that try to prove an argument must have a strong dose of pathos. Pathos is the key to his speech
because when something as bad as the Attack on Pearl Harbor, President Roosevelt was a able to rally his fellow Americans to bear arms and ready to
avenge this attack. Especially when President Roosevelt said this, "No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the
American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.(15)". President Roosevelt was very successful with this and got the
clear majority of the people ready to go to war. Although there were some people disagreeing, but they were silenced by the majority of the people .
Ethos– he is able to persuade his fellow americans because he is the president of the US. He has gained his credibility because of the elections he
has won and how respected he was from the great depression and he got the country out of it. He is also the only president in US history to have
served more than 2 terms. "As commander in chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense. But always will
our whole nation remember the character of the onslaught against us.(Roosevelt, 14)" "I believe that I interpret the will of the Congress and of the

Rhetorical Analysis Of Donald Trump Speech
Donald Trump and the revival of the American state: The president of United States on board with the Americans on key issues The newly elected
American president on 20th January 2017 addressed the citizens of his state, the dignified world leaders and his adversaries. President Trump from
the very beginning of his speech addressed the protection of America and pointed out the protection of each of the single American. His speech
directed towards the presidents who had already served in the American state. Moreover, repetitively he gave signs of warning to the enemies of
the state. His speech reflected those enemies, which are a threat to the world peace along with the survival of their won country. His emphasis was
over the revival in the American system, whether the education, health or national security agendas. I think the speech of his evokes strong
emotions towards the people of America and using the phrase 'America first' off and on makes the speech debatable for the other world leaders.
Repeating the words of the president project more interest and keep the audience engaged. This is one of the targeted strategies of a strong speaker
to keep the people lively and interactive. The very last lines of his speech clearly denote the agenda he is willing to put in order to bring about change
for the American state. For instance, "Together we will make America strong again.... America wealthy again. We will make America proud again......
Will, make it safe again. And yes,

The "Era of Good Feelings" (1816–1825) marked a political period during president James Monroe's presidency in which the disappearance of the
Federalists enabled the republicans to govern in a spirit of harmony. This period is titled so due to nationalism, decrease in political strife, and
economic growth post War of 1812. Although, Monroe managed to achieve his goal of national unity within the country, there were still issues that had
appeared during his presidency. Debates over tariffs, foreign affairs, the national bank, and slave issues became much more evident during this time
period. Following the War of 1812, people in America did not worry much about foreign affairs nearly as much as they did over American

Its purpose was to even out the amount of slaveholding state representatives in congress. To do this, Maine became free slave state and Missouri was
created as a slave state. Because of this, all slavery was extinguished in the northern states, but available in the southern states (Document E). Congress
also established a line across the southern border of Missouri to distinguish the northern states from the southern states. All states north of this line must
be free of slavery and those south of the line will contain slavery. This Compromise lasted for roughly 35 years until slavery was completely abolished
in America. The "Tariff of 1816" was a protective tariff that helped American businesses by taxing British goods that were often cheaper and of higher
quality than American goods. This ultimately boosted the sales of American products and was very successful in protecting industries. Most of the
U.S. Representatives voted for the the Tariff because they understood that they must protect American manufacturing (Document F). Those who

Rhetorical Analysis Of President John F. Kennedy's Crisis
A leader should be able to diagnose problems in his country and effectively navigate his people safely through that trouble–spot. President John F .
Kennedy was a great leader, who was able to lead the United States through several crises. One prime example of his navigational skills through such
hardships is in his dealings with the rise in steel prices in 1962. In his news conference, on the issue of steel price, President Kennedy uses parallelism
and juxtaposition to create the idea that the increase in price from the steel companies is detrimental to the United States' economy.
The first device that President John F. Kennedy uses to combat the issue of raising steel prices is parallelism. In the second paragraph of his speech,
he begins listing outcomes of the dramatic increase in steel prices by saying, "...when we are confronted with grave crises in Berlin and Southeast
Asia, when we are devoting out energies to economic recovery and stability, when we are asking Reservists to leave their homes and families for
months on end, and servicemen to risk their lives..."(lines 6–12) This is an effective use of parallelism because he builds on the previous statement by
starting out the one that follows with the same introduction: "...when we are..." He is trying to prove that America is in a crisis situation and the
steel companies increasing their prices is only going to make the situation even worse. He is showing all of the sacrifices that people are making
and proving to the steel companies that their high wages are going to have a very negative effect on a people who are sacrificing more than anyone
would have ever expected for their country. The second example of parallelism is in the third paragraph of his speech, when he begins by saying, "...it
would increase the cost of homes, autos, and appliances, and most other items for every American family. It would increase the cost of machinery and
tools to every American businessman and farmer. It would seriously handicap out efforts to prevent an inflationary spiral from eating up the pensions
of out older citizens, and our new gains in purchasing power."(lines 23–31) He is pleading to the steel companies to lower their prices through showing

Agency Representation In Congress
When looking how effectively a country represents its citizens, it is important to take into account the manner in which they are represented. The two
main types of representation are descriptive and agency representation. Descriptive representation is the concept that those who represent the American
people should not only have the same political interest, but should also mirror the demographic makeup of the people. Agency representation, which is
what the United States congress looks like, is when the representation does not reflect the demographic, but they speak for their constituents' interests in
congress. The constituents are able to hold the representatives accountable and can choose not to elect them in the next term, so the representatives ...

Apart from the campaigning process the president has very little direct interaction with the American people. This makes the executive branch the

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Reagan Eulogy
Ronald Reagan, the former 40th president of the United States died on June 5th of 2004. A couple of days later on the 11th, Margaret Thatcher the
former Prime Minister of Great Britain, wrote an eulogy for Ronald Reagan. In this eulogy, Thatcher uses rhetorical strategies to convince her
readers into believing what she states. She uses the strategies of parallelism, pathos and diction to get her message out and to help her reader receive
it. And thus Thatcher can convince her readers into believing what she says. In the first couple of lines of her eulogy, Thatcher uses parallelism to get
a message across about Reagan. Her first words clearly state, "We have lost a great president, a great American, and a great man," (Line # 1–2).
Parallelism means to use alike words in the same phrases or clauses. In this instance Thatcher repeats the word "great" three time in a phrase so that
the reader could clearly understand that Thatcher believed Reagan was a great person in general. Using this strategy over exaggerates the view
Thatcher had on Reagan so that her readers could eventually themselves believe he was a great man. In the next couple of lines, Thatcher again uses
parallelism to describe to the reader Reagan's goals, "He sought to mend America's wounded spirit, to restore the strength of the free world, and to free
the slaves of communism," (Line #6–8). Thatcher uses the words, "mend," "restore," and, "free," which are all actions that mean healing. By using
these three words, Thatcher uses Parallelism to express that Reagan was only trying to heal, to help, to save his country and those he could help. This
made Thatcher's readers see Reagan as a type of savior to the United States. Parallelism was used by Thatcher to emphasize her thoughts on Reagan
and to draw in her readers so they think the same thing. The second rhetorical strategy Thatcher uses are pathos or emotional appeal. Thatcher uses
pathos when she talks about the attempt to assassinate Reagan, "In the terrible hours after the attempt on his life, his easy jokes gave reassurance to an
anxious world. They were evidence that in the aftermath of terror and in the midst of hysteria one great heart at least remained sane and jocular," Line #

What Is The Vietnam War Essay
As I read though out the many different perspectives on the issue of war between the United States and Vietnam, my most reasonable conclusion is that
I have to consider the Vietnam War as a failure for the United States.
At the beginning of President Kennedy's administration, he sent Vice President Johnson to Vietnam on a mission to find evidence, because he wanted
to stop the spread of communism. Kennedy kept sending many American military advisors to Vietnam, but the tyrannical leadership methods ofSouth
Vietnam President Diem made President Kennedy's efforts useless. As the number of beaten up military advisors increased, so did the disagreements

boats attacked the United States destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin. As a revenge to this attack, President Johnson approved to counter–attack North
Vietnam.
By 1965, North Vietnamese were fully supported by the Soviet Union and China making the American army to take out even more air support and

A president has to have character, right? I mean, if the leader of the free world has no substance, nothing special about him, then how do we as

he will tell us the truth? This concept is exactly what fictional president Andrew Shepherd successfully conveys in his "Address to the Press on Bob

The Constitution is the very first concrete document that lasted in this country. It was made by the very first citizens and it was made with pride.
Before the constitution came to life the United States was looked upon, by many nations, similarly to a child attempting to grow up too fast. Great
Britain, the country that the constitution freed us from, did not think the United States was going to make it alone. Great Britain was right. The United
States could not make it alone. The United States needed something to help it along. They needed the constitution. Because of this strong link between
the constitution and the survival of the United States, many patriots, including Shepherd, have an emotional attachment to the constitution. Because of
that link many patriots perceive attacks on the constitution as personal attacks. In this excerpt from the speech, Shepherd is found attacking Rumson by
using one of the most powerful emotional strategies, appealing to ones sense of patriotism. He questions Rumson's national pride by saying that
Rumson doesn't support the Constitution. What true patriot wouldn't love and support the reason that this country exists? In that same swift action,
Shepherd affirms his own image as a patriot. "I am a card carrying member of

Essay On African American Inequality
The African American fight for civil rights has been a time–consuming conflict in the United States of America. More than 50 years after The Civil
Rights Act of 1964 was signed, African Americans are still treated differently from their white peers. While some people believe that African American
equality was solved with the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States of America, this is not correct. Ever since the election of
President Barack Obama, unarmed African Americans are still being murdered by their American peers, causing the Black Lives Matter movement.
The Black Lives Matter movement was formed after Trayvon Martin, a young black male, was murdered by George Zimmerman. While the 21st
century is here, African American racial inequalities are still a major problem. On March 15, 1965, former President, Lyndon B. Johnson, gave a speech,
"We Shall Overcome" in Washington, DC after the violent march in Selma, Alabama. This speech was Lyndon B. Johnson's most memorable speech
because he spoke about getting congress to ban racial discrimination against African American's in the voting polls. While voting is now open to
people of all races, racism is still very alive in the United States. On March 18, 2008, President Barack Obama gave a speech, "A More Perfect
Union" in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. President Barack Obama's speech was also about the African American race. In President Barack Obama's

During the elections, James Knox Polk, a slave owner, represented the Democratic Party and Henry Clay represented the Whig Party. The two largest
issues at the time of these debates were the annexation of Texas and "Manifest Destiny," the idea that it was America's God given right to expand from

Lyndon Baines Overcome Rhetorical Analysis

  • 1. Lyndon Baines Overcome Rhetorical Analysis The Civil Rights Movement of 1954–1968 is a time of struggle and efforts for African American equality and can be categorized as a peaceful movement of restless seekers of justice. But after the Selma to Montgomery March in Alabama in 1965, where many ended injured and one ended up killed, President Lyndon B. Johnson saw this as his executive duty to show the nation that this was an American problem that we all needed to fix. On March 15, 1965, a week after Selma, Johnson gave We Shall Overcome, a speech whose purpose was to motivate civil rights to African Americans and make it into a civil cause, as well as gain support for a bill that rightly legally aids to this solution of discrimination. By using literary devices, diction, sentence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This, in turn, aids his purpose as it brings reflection on familiar terms and people. In addition, he uses diacope in Lines 22 ("There is no Negro problem. There is no Southern problem. There is no Northern problem.") where 'there is no ... problem' is repeated. This only emphasizes his next line, which reads "There is only an American problem", which shows that there is no placing blame for the wrongdoings of this nation. With this, he means to emphasize that we have all been a part of this problem, and we shall all be part of the solution. Lastly, Johnson also uses epistrophe in Lines 190–191 ("All Americans must have the privileges of citizenship –– regardless of race. And they are going to have those privileges of citizenship –– regardless of race"), where the phrase 'regardless of race' is repeated. Using epistrophe has the same effect as if the speaker repeats the same phrase 'for the people in the back'. In other words, the use of epistrophe emphasizes Johnson's point that race does not matter in citizenship issues. Likewise, Lyndon B. Johnson uses diction to make his speech's purpose more impactful and echo across the country. For example, Johnson avoids using the term 'U.S citizen' and instead uses American, or Americans. The word 'America' has more powerful connotations than using the term prior. Being a U.S citizen is of legal matters, whereas being an 'American' refers to loving your country and being patriotic, and it has nationalistic connotations, and in ... No one ever imaged that America would have 3 presidents in the course of two and a half years. In 2017, former President Donald Trump was sworn in. His presidency caused a lot of controversy and corruption between the american people. There were riots and protests, literally most of America hated our President. The hate for President Donald Trump got worse as time flew by, which caused great stress to the president. The stress became too much for President Trump, to the point he resigned from the presidency. Soon after President Trump resigned, his former Vice President Mike Pence became thePresident of the United States. The 25th ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. A Successful Obama Inaugural Address Shamik Patel Professor Valarie Writing Project #3 November 5, 2014 A Successful Obama's 2nd Inaugural Address On January 21st, 2013, Barack Obama addressed the audience as the re–elected President of America in an inaugural ceremony on the West Front of Capitol. The speech was written by Jonathan Favreau. In an inaugural address, Obama touched upon several important issues; immigration, gender equality, and economic reforms and left behind the message that unity is our nation's ultimate strength. He was able convinced the audience that they should all work together to overcome all issues and for a better tomorrow for the next generation. Obama successfully persuaded the audience by exemplifying that he was aware of their issues, problems, and future needs. Greek philosopher Aristotle divided the means of persuasion, appeals, intro three categories; ethos (credibility), pathos (emotionally), and logos (logically). Obama persuaded the audience with use of rhetoric and convinced them his arguments were credible, logical, and appealed to them emotionally. In late 1950s, Richard Neustadt wrote Presidential Power and the Modern President, in which he explained that presidential power is the power to persuade. Central motivation of this book was to advice new president with their strategic problem of power and so forth. According to Neustadt, there are three significant areas that a president must be aware of and nurture while in the Whitehouse; power to persuade, president's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparing O Captain ! My Captain And Cool Tombs Poetic Comparison of "O Captain! My Captain!" and "Cool Tombs" "O Captain! My Captain!" by Walt Whitman and "Cool Tombs" by Carl Sandburg depict the death of President Lincoln, which reflects the willingness of Civil–War era Americans to sacrifice the safety of their president and the lives of soldiers for the greater socioeconomic purpose. In "O Captain! My Captain!" Whitman employs a metaphor of President Lincoln as a captain of a ship to illustrate the price of modernization, characterizing the Northerner's struggle for unity to supply the growing nation's needs. Similarly, Sandburg employs an impartial tone in "Cool Tombs" to convey the insignificance of the individual person, suggesting that no one is spared when it comes to satisfying... The objectors of Lincoln, the scandals of Grant, and the warring with the colonists are settled. The tone brings light to death as a finish line instead of a continuation of the spirit of their time periods. Nobody "gets more than the lovers" reflects the ideas of equality present in the Civil War. The people cheering on a hero and the heroes end up the same place as them– a cool tomb. Also, the epistrophe– every line ends with "in the dust, in the cool, cool, tombs" further emphasizes the idea that everyone lies in the dust when they are dead, regardless of their fame or infamy. The treatment of death during the Civil War emphasizes this communistic idea that everyone is equal at the end of their life. After all, even President Lincoln is killed due to the cause. • 6. America 's Changing Foreign Policy The Monroe Doctrine was an assertion of President James Monroe regarding U.S. foreign policy in 1823. In the Doctrine, the President denounced European powers' any further attempt to colonize and exploit Latin American countries, while promising not to interfere any existing European colonies in the Americas. The Monroe Doctrine was one of the greatest turning points in American foreign policy as it marked the beginning of America's rapid development as a world power. Over the past two hundred years of history, the meaning of the Monroe Doctrine had been altered multiple times in order to suit America's changing foreign policy. For example, in the 1840s, President James Polk used the Monroe Doctrine as an excuse to annex... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, after the defeat of Napoleon in September 1815, three European nations – Austrian Empire, Prussia, and Russia – formed the Holy Alliance, also known as the Grand Alliance, to endorse and strengthen monarchism. The rapid growth of monarchy in Europe in the 1810s greatly threatened the United States and its democratic political structure. Amid such a crisis, the United States, under the leadership of President Monroe, issued the Monroe Doctrine in 1823 without hesitance. This action suggested the braveness of the young United States as a nation in defending democracy and fighting the growing imperialism of powerful European countries. In addition to the threat of the reviving European monarchism, the isolationism endorsed by President Washington was also a driving force of the Monroe Doctrine. In 1796, in President Washington's Farewell Address, he warned the United States of the danger to ally with foreign countries. The Monroe Doctrine implemented ideas mentioned in the Farewell Address by drawing an invisible line between the Americas and the Eastern hemisphere, freeing the U.S. from any possible political alliance with foreign countries. • 7. Rhetorical Analysis Of President Obama's Inauguration Speech The Inauguration address is made by the newly sworn in President of the United States every four years. This custom started, by our nation's first President George Washington, in 1789 (President). Every President since Washington has given this speech. Presidents utilize this to bestow their plan in the forthcoming years of the United States and ambitions for America. This is utmost one of the most important days in the History of America as it signaled the birth of a new nation. In today's context it signals a peaceful exchange of power in the most disruptive of times. The speech is primarily given out to the citizens of the United States, who need to know what the future holds for them; Now in a world of globalization and foreign policy this speech is paid attention to throughout the world. All Inaugural addresses are similar. First they start with their greeting, then examine the state of the nation, the newly elected President presents the issues of the country and the plan to solve them. After the President draws upon powerful lessons and rhetoric to bring inspiration to the American people and finally closes off to end the address. President Obama was no stranger to that as he has done that, like every President before him, not once but twice, in 2009 and 2013. Using rhetoric, President Obama grasps the attention and impacts audiences listening and watching all over the world in 2013. • 8. The Early 1990’S Were A Period Of Change For America. America The early 1990's were a period of change for America. America was fresh off the ending of the Cold War and had newly elected President Bill Clinton. This was the first Democratic president since Jimmy Carter, who led from 1977–81. Americans voted for change and Bill Clinton brought forth that message in his 1993 inaugural address. Bill Clinton strongly and confidently addressed the world on January 20, 1993. He called for a renewal of America through positive change and increased responsibility amongst American citizens. Like any inaugural address, Bill Clinton wanted to reassure the citizens of the United States who voted for him; but, also wanted to gain favorability amongst the rest of the citizens. There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is right with America. And so today we pledge an end to the era of deadlock and drift, and a new season of American renewal has begun. (lines 37–38) Bill Clinton went on to talk in several paragraphs about the renewal of America. His focus was directly on the economy and investing in American jobs. He said "we must do what America does best: offer more opportunity to all and demand more responsibility from all." He challenged young Americans to a "season of service." To bring his point across, Bill Clinton used the appeal of ethos a great deal. He referred to past presidents and scripture. "Thomas Jefferson believed that to preserve the very foundations of our Nation, we would need dramatic change from time to time. Well, my fellow Americans, this is our time. Let us embrace it."(lines 35–36) He's implying that a respected former president says change is good and needed, so why not now? "Let us resolve to make our Government a place for what Franklin Roosevelt called bold, persistent experimentation, a Government for our tomorrows, not our yesterdays. Let us give this Capital back to the people to whom it belongs." (lines 57–58) The people are in charge again. • 9. Osama Persuasive Speech On May 2nd, 2011, the people of the United States awoke to some of the best news they would hear for many years to come; Osama bin Laden had been killed. President Barack Obama delivered the message at 7:30AM and the country was buzzing about it for weeks after. Osama bin Laden was a name that every American man, woman, and child knew. On 9–11–01, four planes were hijacked by terrorists and crashed into strategic locations to sow chaos, confusion, death, and destruction into the American people. 2,977 innocent Americans died on that fateful day, and the man who decided they should die and be subject to terror was Osama bin Laden. Since that fateful day, America has donated massive amounts of time and money to find Osama, and bring him to justice. However, time and time again he evaded capture and kept us chasing him. In President Obama's "Osama bin Laden Killed" speech he dives right into using pathos. Many people before me have made history and have paved the way for future generations of African–Americans to do something great. They've became doctors, lawyers, engineers–– and yet no one has recognized the great things the people of my culture have done. People are not proud of their heritage, they never want to praise those who came before them. People like Madam Efunroye Tinubu, Claudette Colvin and Henry McNeal Turner paved the way for African–Americans to have a cultural identity. • 13. The Pros And Cons Of The United States Presidential System Everything in life is not perfect whether it concerns humans or even the government. According to Merriam–Webster dictionary, government can be defined as, "the group of people who control and make decisions for a country, state, etc." Government can be organized in variety of ways, in order to control a civilized society. For example, a government can either be structured as a presidential system or even multi–party parliamentary system. The United States government uses a presidential system in order to govern their nation. However, Professor Christopher S. Allen believes that the United States presidential system contains many flaws. Professor Allen's reasoning that the multi–party parliamentary system may help overcome the core institutional blockages of the American presidential system is correct because it would result in an effective form of government where voting rates, costly campaigning cost, confusion of roles and political accountability would mend the political structure in United States leading to prosperity for the nation. Spikes in the price of iron and wages for iron workers threw the unsteady economy, back in the hole. The President at the time, John F. Kennedy, made a speech to the United States' citizens concerning these issues. He used many techniques to get his point across, such as a powerful vocation, an appeal to patriotism, and factual data. President Kennedy's uses a great deal of factual evidence to prove his point. He uses numerical data and fact based predictions statistics, to appeal to the audience's sense of common reasoning. The nmber make the argument easier to agree with because numbers are usually taken as facts not tainted by emotion or human will. They would look to the back, reading the reviews by well recognized critics and looking through the small synopsis. If life was imagined as a gripping novel, the reviews and synopsis of a person could be compared to a eulogy, the speech Е«given at one's funeral. • 16. Loa Dylan To Me Essay Dylan further represents America as a place with significant corruption and misconduct within the song. Verse 12 reads; "Bent out of shape from society's pliers, Cares not to come up any higher, But rather get you down in the hole". This line plays into the idea of keeping the human machine running, "society's pliers" shape a person – much like the aforementioned "everyman" completing his nine–to–five job to feed "the system". However, this line blatantly mentions "But rather get you down in the hole". The idea of trying to keep particular people down through the systematic means of government relates to the oppression of black Americans of the time. "Keeping certain people down" for the government's benefit is clearly what the US government did to black Americans – in an institutionalised fashion. However, funnily enough, through Dylan's representing the blights of American culture in his songs, the American people were able to reflect on injustice, which moved people to support social progress like the civil rights movement. The attitudes in America that adopted materialism and conformity were exposed through a multitude of Dylan's lyrics – and additionally the ones who endorsed these values for their own gain were also left to "stand naked" through Dylan's work. At times, this song almost seems saddening reminding the audience of existential dread through certain lyrics, however, overall, it can be concluded the inherited despondency in the text is a testament to the verisimilitude within his writings – providing a genuine feeling that his fans adore; which is ultimately why Dylan is credited as, the spokesman of his ... However, after his election, Wilson had a change of heart. A few events, such as the German sinking of the Lusitania and the Zimmerman telegram swayed President Wilson's stance on the war. He started a movement toward war. A large variety of pro –war propaganda was produced and American troops were sent to Europe to fight. Through his employment of propaganda, President Wilson was able to: 1. Convince the American people to join the ranks, 2. Persuade Americans into accepting rations for food, 3. Involve women in the war effort, and 4. Sway Americans into buying government bonds (liberty bonds) to fund the war. We will discuss four main propaganda posters, which depict these four main themes of President Wilson's push for war. In the end, President Wilson's use of propaganda was ironically able to change the popular American opinion and convince them to support World War I. Convincing Americans to Join the Ranks: In order to support the war effort, President Wilson needed to ensure he had an adequate amount of troops available. United States Economy According to the U.S. Labor Statistics 2011 report, when President Obama took office, the economy was shedding nearly 800,000 jobs each month and millions of families were unable to make ends meet. African Americans were hit especially hard by the recession struggling with significant economic losses, including near–record high levels of unemployment and low average earnings (U.S. Labor Statistics 2011). From day one the President has made turning the economy around a top priority, and the policies enacted through the Recovery Act of 2009 have had a significant impact on the country's economic well–being. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the Recovery Act and later expansions and extensions kept 1.3 million African Americans above the poverty line last year alone (Sherman 2009). And this year, the continued expansion of just two tax credits– the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child tax Credit– has benefited an estimated 2.2 million African American families and almost half of all African American children. The targeted tax relief enacted by President Obama through both the Recovery Act and the December tax Deal has provided relief to nearly every American, helping them bear the brunt of the recession and supporting them as the economy has recovered (The President Agenda and the African American Community, November 2011 pg. 4). This use of language allowed him to capture the attention of the audience and clearly make his point known. President Obama's use of language painted a picture of Boston, both before and after the bombings, and brought forward emotions from those who heard his speech. Use of imagery was essential in the President's speech, as it allowed him to describe Boston in a way that made the entire country feel as though they were directly involved in the attack, even though the majority were not involved at all. Phrases such as "sunlight glistened off the statehouse dome" and "spring was in bloom" allowed those listening to or reading President Obama's speech to feel as though they were there that morning and sense the peace that had been there before the bombings took place. Then, however, she changes to the adjective "dear" when describing how she lost him as her close friend. With this singular word, Thatcher reveals to her audience that, not only were she and Reagan political allies, they were true friends with a relationship separate from work. This not only serves to win her sympathy from her already emotional auditors, it grants her the credibility to deliver his eulogy; she proves that yes, she has the ability to speak about his life from a personal, meaningful perspective. Another clear instance of Thatcher's ethical appeal is evident in, "As Prime Minister, I worked closely... for eight of the most important years... of our lives," (Thatcher, lines 54–56). In this statement, she cites how she knew Reagan as well as why their relationship was important from a political standpoint. • 30. Rhetorical Analysis Of President John F. Kennedy's Crisis A leader should be able to diagnose problems in his country and effectively navigate his people safely through that trouble–spot. President John F . Kennedy was a great leader, who was able to lead the United States through several crises. One prime example of his navigational skills through such hardships is in his dealings with the rise in steel prices in 1962. In his news conference, on the issue of steel price, President Kennedy uses parallelism and juxtaposition to create the idea that the increase in price from the steel companies is detrimental to the United States' economy. The first device that President John F. Kennedy uses to combat the issue of raising steel prices is parallelism. In the second paragraph of his speech, he begins listing outcomes of the dramatic increase in steel prices by saying, "...when we are confronted with grave crises in Berlin and Southeast Asia, when we are devoting out energies to economic recovery and stability, when we are asking Reservists to leave their homes and families for months on end, and servicemen to risk their lives..."(lines 6–12) This is an effective use of parallelism because he builds on the previous statement by starting out the one that follows with the same introduction: "...when we are..." He is trying to prove that America is in a crisis situation and the steel companies increasing their prices is only going to make the situation even worse. He is showing all of the sacrifices that people are making and proving to the steel companies that their high wages are going to have a very negative effect on a people who are sacrificing more than anyone would have ever expected for their country. The second example of parallelism is in the third paragraph of his speech, when he begins by saying, "...it would increase the cost of homes, autos, and appliances, and most other items for every American family. It would increase the cost of machinery and tools to every American businessman and farmer. It would seriously handicap out efforts to prevent an inflationary spiral from eating up the pensions of out older citizens, and our new gains in purchasing power."(lines 23–31) He is pleading to the steel companies to lower their prices through showing them examples ... • 32. Rhetorical Analysis Of The Reagan Eulogy Ronald Reagan, the former 40th president of the United States died on June 5th of 2004. A couple of days later on the 11th, Margaret Thatcher the former Prime Minister of Great Britain, wrote an eulogy for Ronald Reagan. In this eulogy, Thatcher uses rhetorical strategies to convince her readers into believing what she states. She uses the strategies of parallelism, pathos and diction to get her message out and to help her reader receive it. And thus Thatcher can convince her readers into believing what she says. In the first couple of lines of her eulogy, Thatcher uses parallelism to get a message across about Reagan. Her first words clearly state, "We have lost a great president, a great American, and a great man," (Line # 1–2). Parallelism means to use alike words in the same phrases or clauses. In this instance Thatcher repeats the word "great" three time in a phrase so that the reader could clearly understand that Thatcher believed Reagan was a great person in general. Using this strategy over exaggerates the view Thatcher had on Reagan so that her readers could eventually themselves believe he was a great man. In the next couple of lines, Thatcher again uses parallelism to describe to the reader Reagan's goals, "He sought to mend America's wounded spirit, to restore the strength of the free world, and to free the slaves of communism," (Line #6–8). Thatcher uses the words, "mend," "restore," and, "free," which are all actions that mean healing. By using these three words, Thatcher uses Parallelism to express that Reagan was only trying to heal, to help, to save his country and those he could help. This made Thatcher's readers see Reagan as a type of savior to the United States. Parallelism was used by Thatcher to emphasize her thoughts on Reagan and to draw in her readers so they think the same thing. The second rhetorical strategy Thatcher uses are pathos or emotional appeal. Thatcher uses pathos when she talks about the attempt to assassinate Reagan, "In the terrible hours after the attempt on his life, his easy jokes gave reassurance to an anxious world. They were evidence that in the aftermath of terror and in the midst of hysteria one great heart at least remained sane and jocular," Line # ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Constitution is the very first concrete document that lasted in this country. It was made by the very first citizens and it was made with pride. Before the constitution came to life the United States was looked upon, by many nations, similarly to a child attempting to grow up too fast. Great Britain, the country that the constitution freed us from, did not think the United States was going to make it alone. Great Britain was right. The United States could not make it alone. The United States needed something to help it along. They needed the constitution. Johnson, gave a speech, "We Shall Overcome" in Washington, DC after the violent march in Selma, Alabama. This speech was Lyndon B. Johnson's most memorable speech because he spoke about getting congress to ban racial discrimination against African American's in the voting polls. While voting is now open to people of all races, racism is still very alive in the United States. On March 18, 2008, President Barack Obama gave a speech, "A More Perfect Union" in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. President Barack Obama's speech was also about the African American race. Texas And Manifest Destiny Dbq In 1837, the country of Texas attempted to join the United States as a slave state; however then President Jackson feared that adding another slave state would disrupt the balance of power in the senate and in a sense ignored the issue which was not brought up again until the elections of 1844. The two largest issues at the time of these debates were the annexation of Texas and "Manifest Destiny," the idea that it was America's God given right to expand from coast to coast. At the time, James Polk was considered the first "dark horse" candidate, which meant that he essentially came from nowhere and nobody thought... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
