Lockes Doctrine of Abstraction
John Locke and George Berkeley are two famous philosophers whose work found similarities in
their proximity of publication, but stark differences in their beliefs. In Locke's Essay Concerning
Human Understanding, he argued passionately for his doctrine of abstract ideas. On the other hand,
Berkeley, in his work, Principles of Human Knowledge, he made every effort to reject all of Locke's
claims. Although viciously attacked by Berkeley, Locke's doctrine of abstraction holds true as a
fundamentally sound and practical doctrine for the advancement of knowledge and communication.
In Book II of Essay, Locke formulates theories on how knowledge is acquired. Previously in Essay,
Locke establishes his position as an empiricist through his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Beginning with the "inability to abstract" argument, followed by the "inconsistent and confusing"
and ending with "unnecessary" argument, Berkeley outlines what he believes to be a "killing blow"
to Locke's doctrine. However, his rejection of abstraction is rather weak. As stated before, Berkeley
begins his rejection of abstraction by stating that the human mind is unable to abstract. He illustrates
his point through a thought experiment, "I can consider the hand, the eye, the nose, each by itself
abstracted or separated from the rest of the body. but then whatever hand or eye I imagine, it must
have some particular shape and color...I cannot by any effort of thought conceive the abstract idea
above described. And it is impossible for me to form the abstract idea of motion distinct from the
body moving." (PHK intro 10) In this example, Berkeley demonstrates his attempt to form a general
idea through the process of abstraction. He concludes that the human mind is unable to accomplish
this as it is impossible not to attribute specific and particular qualities to an idea when abstracting it.
This being so, when imaging an idea, one cannot view it in general terms, but instead can only view
it particularly. This argument doesn't really develop any strengths or weakness for or against
Abstraction. If posed with the same thought experiment, Locke would surely answer that he would
be able to form abstract ideas within his mind.

Nursing Concept Analysis Paper
A concept is an image molded from ones on personal experience, knowledge, expectations and
emotions. Concepts are the abstractions and the building blocks of theories and conceptual
frameworks (Cline, 2015). "Concept analysis is a term that refers to the process of unfolding,
exploring, and understanding concepts for the purpose of delineation, comparison, clarification,
refinement, and validation" (Townsend & Scanlan, 2011, p.1 ). Concept analysis makes a vague or
unclear concept to clearer so that everyone shares a common language. When a theory is
conceptually analyzed, it is considered valued. Concept analysis is a method of concept
development and is a component of theory development. A major portion of the nursing theories,
research and concepts are borrowed from other disciplines, the validity of these concepts need to be
evaluated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Walker and Avant's concept analysis model was used to analyze the concept of spiritual care to
provide an inclusive definition of the spiritual care in nursing. The concept analysis was done based
on Jean Watson's caring theory. According to Watson spiritual care is the core of nursing care.
Spirituality is a critical component in nursing to provide holistic care to the patient. Even though the
increasing awareness of spiritual care present, such care is lacking in nursing (Ramezani et al.,
2014). This paper will provide a detailed description of concept analysis on spirituality based on
Jean Watson's caring theory. It also provide information on various steps of concept analysis,

Expository Teaching
Highly abstract concepts, such as jurisprudence and sovereignty, oftentimes cause high school
students much struggle when trying to thoroughly understand such conceptual ideas. To teach these
theoretical concepts, one must not only equivalently utilize David Ausubel's Expository teaching
model, but also retain an overall knowledge of other valuable strategies related to Ausubels's model
(Woolfolk, 2004, p. 281). To Ausubel, the most significant idea is that of the advance organizer, a
statement of introduction that aids students in organizing the information about to be presented. Also
to a teacher's benefit are the ideas needed to form a concept, such as exemplars, defining features,
irrelevant features, non–examples, and prototypes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reviewing material introduced in question and answer format is an efficient way to connect the
information back to the advance organizer. Sovereignty also has a core meaning, "supreme authority
within a territory". In other words, the holder of sovereignty is superior to all authorities under its
purview (plato.stanford.edu). The advance organizer for sovereignty might include a comparison of
different types of "supreme" authorities. One might ask questions such as, "Is high school an
example of sovereignty?", or "Is your family an example of sovereignty?" A discussion of other
countries, historically and today, would also help expand this idea. Discussing the prototype of each
idea will help in relating the content covered back to the advance organizer. While using expository
teaching to present a concept, one would start with an advance organizer. A comparative organizer,
which compares old and new information, would aid in beginning a lesson dealing with the concept
of mammals (Woolfolk, 2004, p. 281). The lesson could begin with a statement or diagram that
connects several different mammals and deals with comparing and contrasting their relationship. A
teacher would continue by naming and defining the concept, and producing exemplars, or actual
instances. Mammals can be defined as various "warm–blooded vertebrate animals of the class

Developing A Framework Is A Major Step For Research Process
Developing a framework is a major step in research process. As Doctor of nursing practice(DNP), it
is important to understand theories and framework related to theoretical ideas and application. The
term Concept used in nursing to describe or name a phenomenon to give meaning. (Grove, S.,
Burns, N., & Gray, J., 2013). Depression is an example of a concept which relates to low mood, loss
of interest or pleasure, lack of motivation, decreased energy and low self–esteem. Concepts differ at
the level of abstraction. According to Grove, S, et al. (2013) relationships statement between two or
more concepts provides a framework leading to the study objective, hypothesis, study design and
statistical analysis needed. Abstract concepts may not apply to clinical practice. Conceptual model
also is known as grand theory is used to explain philosophical standpoint. The theory consists of
concepts and rational statements used to describe their relationship. Scientific theories are
considered law because of their relationship which has evidence. Middle range theories are relevant
to both research and practice. it developed from qualitative data, clinical experiences, clinical
practice guidelines. Middle range theory compared with the grand theory is less abstract, and more
frequently used. Middle range theory helps the practitioner to understand their patient's behavior to
be able to come up with interventions that are beneficial to the patient. (Grove, S., Burns, N., &

The Metaphysic Of Abstract Particulars
Introduction: In this paper I will present the arguments for tropes and their distinction from
universals and particulars as presented by Keith Campbell in his paper "The Metaphysic of Abstract
Particulars." I will then present a counter argument to Campbell's evaluation and provide possible
responses to those arguments. I will also provide possible adjustments Campbell could make to
create a more sound argument.
Campbell's Argument:
Since Plato, two mutually exclusive yet essential categories of reality have been posited, one of
concrete particulars and the other being abstract universals. Particulars are "unproblematic," but
universals may be entirely extant in many positions with no influence on the universal itself. A
particular "distinguishing mark is that is exhausted in the one embodiment, or occasion, or
example." (Campbell 298) Particulars are unproblematic because they are restricted to a single point
at any given time, not like universals which exist in different locations and are wholly present in
those instances. The number of examples which contain the abstract universals are not diminished in
quality of the universal. Campbell posits that this "problem" can be alleviated if properties were not
universal at all. There is a distinction between abstract and concrete which differs from the
distinction between universals and particulars. This is because particulars and universals can both be
abstract where only particulars can be concrete. The particulars that

Concept: Concept And Concept
Concept is the basic component that build up the development to our world. It can be assumed from
some specific instances or things that already existed. In some circumstances, concept is some
thoughts that people had already been thought about, and had already got some development, and
that's the difference between concept and idea. On the other hand, concept is also a more abstract
and more realistic thought. However, concept might be relying on the religion or the cultural
difference, and can cause different thought by people in different life backgrounds. Indeed, people
had discovered there are many types of concept which can be use in variety of ways. For example,
in Mathematics people can use some concepts to figure out a new way to solve problems or
structure out a new formula. And in Science subjects people use concept to solve ongoing mystery
or find out new discovery. As an art student, in art or design, I use concept to build up new ideas.

other hand, because of the variety uses of the concept, it might cause different affect which depends

The Inspired Kantian Non Formalism Analysis
Chapter Four
The Inspired Kantian Non–Formalism
The interpretation of Kant as a moral formalist or constructivist precisely, has been dominant in
much of the recent secondary literature on Kant in English–speaking world, for Silber, Rawls and
O'Neill we analyzed. Those interpretations have lately come under sustained philosophical attack by
the defenders of a non–moral formalist or realist interpretation of Kant. We have mentioned at the
outset, the essential division for formalist and non–formalist is in their understanding C1 as a
'formal' accomplishment or not. So far we have seen the formalist holds out for the preeminence of
universalzation in the hierarchy of principles, i.e. the buttressing rules Rawls or O'Neill posed. Now
we are to see how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The concept of moral law springs from pure reason or reason that exists separate from empirical
considerations. Since pure reason is able to be relevant to material action, we see a conceptual
bridge is constructed in the form of the maxim, to the degree that it is tested in accordance to
prescriptive law, a determinate rule of action. This determination, it must be stressed, is voluntary
and subjectively constructed, while the basis of the analysis, this intend to act from duty, is based on
an understanding of moral law.
Hence, Dietrichson points out a non–formal approach to explain Kant, it is non–formal because it
raises the humanity–the material for Kant to guide action. Precisely, because the pure reason enables
us to grasp the moral law, we are striking to fulfill the requirement to act 'from' duty as it constitutes
purity of our humanity. Dietrichson did not see the formula of moral law as formal accomplishment
that reason alone could indentify moral law, but it must have non–formal

Selective Abstraction
Selective abstraction–one example of this would be a person getting a good grade in a class but
mainly focusing on the one assignment that they got a bad grade in and think about that in a
negative aspect. I use this sometimes because in my life I always want to do my very best when it
comes to school, when get a bad grade I sometimes do dwell on that for a while. Negative
predication, one example of this would be if a person thinks that they are not going to get an
apartment that they signed up for even though they have a perfect record when it comes to paying
rent on time. Overgeneralization– one example for this would be if an individual had a bad day at
work, he might conclude that he is a bad coworker. Looking through the many cognitive

Rhetorical Analysis Of Lucas 's ' The Art Of Public Speaking

publicity team on some new marketing strategies. Lisa then spends time on the phone talking with
all of the editors she represents. At a lunch meeting Lisa talks to the executive board on a couple of
manuscripts she has been championing. Would one think that Lisa is a public speaker? Most people
would say no, but after reading Stephen Lucas the Art of Public Speaking, I have learned that Lisa is
a public speaker and is using her public speaking skills to inform her coworkers. Chapter 15 is about
speaking to inform an audience. Lucas begins this chapter with the types of informative speeches
and some analysis and organization skills for each topic. There are many ways to classify an
informative speech, Lucas breaks it down into four main topics: objects, processes, events, and
concepts. Lucas begins this chapter by speaking on speeches about objects. Lucas defines an object
as "Objects include anything that is visible, tangible, and stable to form. ... Here are examples of
subjects for speeches about objects e–book readers, Susan B. Anthony, service dogs, titanium,
human eye and Golden Gate Bridge" (Lucas, 2012, pg. 278.). Lucas reminds us that whatever
subject a speaker will pick they must know that they will not be able to tell everything on the
subject. To instead pick the most important ideas the speaker wants to get across and use those to
develop a main point. Next Lucas shows

Physical Value in Keats' Ode on a Grecian Urn Essay
Physical Value in Keats' Ode on a Grecian Urn
The poetry of John Keats contains many references to physical things, from nightingales to gold and
silver–garnished things, and a casual reader might be tempted to accept these at face value, as
simple physical objects meant to evoke a response either sensual or emotional; however, this is not
the case. Keats, in the poem Ode Upon a Grecian Urn, turns the traditional understanding of
physical objects on its head, and uses them not solid tangible articles, but instead as metaphors for
and connections to abstract concepts, such as truth and eternity.
In the poem, Keats dismisses the value of physical things as only corporeal for what he feels is more
substantial and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is the metaphysical "truth" then, that Keats seeks to connect to the physical beauty of the
Grecian urn? Webster defines truth as "Conformity to fact or reality; exact accordance with that
which is, or has been; or shall be."; another description, more Romantic and fitting to Keats, is
Bertrand Russell's:
"Truth is a shining goddess, always veiled, always distant, never wholly approachable, but worthy of
all the devotion of which the human spirit is capable.". Keats is essentially saying through the urn
that truth, the conforming to facts, is the exact same thing as physical beauty; beauty is a factual
attribute of an object.
An analysis of the text, searching for connections between the abstract and the tangible, would do
much to elucidate this matter. The poem is broken into five parts.
The first section opens with a description of the urn as a bride, a foster–child, a historian. All these
personifications are subtle linkings of the abstract actions related to those roles which Keats assigns
to the concrete object, the urn. He then further reinforces this subtle link with a series of
observations on what is painted on the urn. "What men or gods are these? What maidens loath? /
What mad pursuit? What struggle to escape? / What pipes and timbrels? What wild ecstasy?" (lines
8–10) is another demonstration; he makes

Generating Creative Ideas for Business Through...
Before starting a business, entrepreneurs need to take and use the methods to generate creative ideas
for product to be marketed and test new ideas. The methods are the focus group method,
brainstorming, brainwriting and problem inventory analysis. These methods are best suitable for an
organization that needs expansion in products or services
First is focus group method, focus group is defined as a group of individuals providing information
in a structured format. A moderator leads the group of about 8 to 14 participants through an open,
in–depth discussion rather than simply asking questions to solicit participants' responses. The group
is stimulated by comments from other group members in creatively conceptualizing and developing

Brainwriting is an alternative method to brainstorming that tries to encourage a more uniform
participation within a group. Like brainstorming, it is designed to generate lots and lots of ideas in a
short amount of time. This is method more to writing to convey new ideas for products. It also takes
place in groups where each group member will write their ideas over time.
This method has three rules that must be followed, namely the need to write or carry forward cycle
contributed three ideas in 5 minutes should be written in the form brainwriting then give it to the
next member. This is more of a discussion circle forward the idea of each member. Next rules is
following that members read every idea that was written to serve as an inspiration to be create
creative idea, if there is an idea written on the same form barinwriting, finally, this method requires
6 participants sit together and helped by a moderator.
Lastly is problem inventory analysis method, problem inventory analysis is a method of obtaining
new ideas and solutions by focusing on problems for certain product categories, customers usually
given a list of known problems for a particular product category and then asked to identify and
discuss the products in a category with specific problems. This will be more effective because it is
much easier to relate to products that have been identified problem proposed and obtained a new

Reflection On Francisco De Quevedo
Christopher Johnson's visit for our class on Francisco de Quevedo was a significant addition to our
ongoing discussion regarding the Baroque, as he was not only able to provide insights into our
critical reading of Quevedo's work–as a scholar of the Baroque and translator of his poetry–but also
posed questions and concerns that will undoubtedly continue to guide our thinking as we move from
the Baroque to the Neo–Baroque. Starting from the premise of the Baroque as an aesthetic that
demands some kind of meta–disciplinary work, I was particularly interested in Johnson's emphasis
on the idea of polarity. Although we had previously discussed the presence of a polarity of sorts in
some of the texts we have read, Johnson's attention to the term, emerging from Spitzer's essay, has
prompted my thinking towards not just the presence, but the development of this concept
throughout. In Luis de Góngora's Soledades, we see violent contrasts of the ascendant and the
degrading vision. Sor Juana's Primero sueño takes us on a voyage of the soul that escapes the body,
and on a voyage of the internal universe of the body that seems to facilitate the escaping of the soul.
Quevedo's poetry showcases both a skillfully mastery of the poetic structures and elements, yet
conjugates this with often time very un–poetic topoi that emphasizes the scatological. I am eager to
see how these polarities manifest themselves in the neo–baroque writings of Lezama Lima and
Severo Sarduy, for example, but

Innate Knowledge And Plato's Theory Of Knowledge
Theory of knowledge is a yield of doubt. When we seriously we really know anything at all, we
innate lead into test of knowing, in the hope of being capable to discriminate the trustworthy beliefs
from such as are untrustworthy.
Knowledge is the principal intellectual attainment studies of epistemology. Virtually all theorists
agree that true belief is a necessary condition for knowledge, and it was once thought that
justification, when added to true belief, yield a necessary and sufficient condition for knowledge. All
of us have an innate knowledge, concepts, forms, or universals that are an essential and inborn part
that compose our mind. Without this rational knowledge would be impossible. Innate knowledge is a
field of epistemology, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since substances must be capable of independent existence, it appears that they cannot be universals
but must be particulars. However, this generated a dilemma since Aristotle also believed that only
knowledge were defined and the object of scientific knowledge ( Introducing Grace Wester Thinker
). Thus if the substance is knowable, they cannot be particulars. But now it looks as if substance
cannot exist at all since they cannot be either knowledge or particulars. According to Plato,
knowledge can be gained by researching within, but Plato also addressed the common man's
potential for achieving knowledge despite his deficient condition in comparison to the Platonic idea.
In the famous allegory of the cave in the Republic, Plato offers a quite realistic view of the common
man as being imprisoned in a world of becoming. This prisoner takes pictures on the wall for reality.
In order to feed from this illustration, he has to turn around toward truth. The prisoners, however,
are not able to turn around themselves without help from the outside. But when the prisoner have a
chance to go outside the cave he realize that the true image he see in the cave has a true image in
reality. Plato believes that one can achieve real knowledge only if one focuses on the moral

Language Influences On Children 's Formation Of Social...
Social categories such as race and gender can be difficult for children to understand and sort out. It
is already remarkable that they acquire such large amounts of knowledge during their early years,
and social categories are just a small part of that. They start to understand that every object they
encounter has a name through language so it would not be surprising to learn that language plays a
vital role in children's formation of social categories as well. The manner in which adults talk and
teach children in particular are how language influences their thoughts. One example of how
children have to sort and form categories is because they are presented with so many different
characteristics about a person such as language, hair color, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The focus of the investigation was on how children develop categories through noun labels, visual
cues, or non–intrinsic cues. The study addressed the hypothesis that young children assimilate social
categories to biological ones, essentializing them as they do species kinds. They explored the
hypothesis that children will differentiate intrinsic cues like skin color over nonintrinsic cues like
clothing when forming representations of social groups. One important theme is that noun labels
encourage children to form categories, especially those that apply to people. In other words,
language appears to play a huge role in forming concepts of race and gender. This idea is interesting
because it contrasts with the norm belief that children make social categorization alone through
visual cues as the children take in all the information around them and as they become more
exposed to different parts of society. Another important idea is that only in the presence of noun
labels were visual cues sufficient to form categories. It conveys that there is a certain way that
children think about these social categories of race and gender (Baron, Dunham, Banaji & Carey,
2014).
The study consisted of 24 different white children for each of the seven experiments. In the various
experiments, the first one demonstrated that in the absence of a visual cue, a noun label supports the
social categorization among both four year

Why The Mona Lisa May Not Be A Painting Essay
When it comes to art appreciation and definition one is left at odds when societal practices do not
reflect theoretically sound arguments regarding the identity of a work. On one hand, paintings like
the Mona Lisa are displayed with great importance in museums around the world, with thousands of
visitors daily trekking to see "the" Mona Lisa, while just outside vendors are selling copies on
canvas, poster and magnet of the very same image. To help in the understanding of this
phenomenon, and to determine the work identity of the Mona Lisa, we shall examine the validity of
arguments put forth by Frank Sibley in "Why the Mona Lisa May Not be a Painting" which draws
upon several concepts of art identity put forth by Goodman and Elgin in "Interpretation and Identity:
Can the Work Survive the World?". After this examination I will briefly add on to Sibley's
arguments bringing them a step further in conclusion, but let us first begin with the establishing
principles of work identity proposed in the two articles.
When introducing the concept of text being equal to work, Goodman proposes literary pluralism;
where one text produces one work with multiple valid, and allowably contradictory, interpretations.
This pluralism is present only in allographic art forms that are not linked to physical objects.
"Pluralism about literature seems more plausible than pluralism about reality". He argues that
literature may have interpretations that conflict, but in the physical world one cannot

Differences Between Hylas And Philonous
Abstract ideas pertaining to epistemology in philosophy are almost as old as the concept of
philosophy itself. Dating back to thinkers such as Aristotle, carrying on throughout the medieval
period and into modern philosophy, abstracts have always been grappled with. George Berkeley's
epistemology about abstract ideas has historically been one that has drawn the attention of many
other scholars and philosophical thinkers. His thoughts on ideas, specifically his expansion of
Locke's general abstract ideas, are still argued to this very day. His critique of Locke's view of
abstract ideas and ideas in general, is successful in refuting his claims, and is validated in the Three
Dialogues between Hylas and Philonous, and can be expanded upon in another one of Berkeley's
works, A Treatise Concerning the Principles of Human Knowledge. Berkeley's work, Three
Dialogues between Hylas and Philonous, can be described as a series of dialogues between Hylas
and Philonous regarding philosophical issues such as God and materialistic substances as well as
ideas. The overall goal of the work was "to demonstrate the reality and perfection of human
knowledge" along with " the incorporeal nature of the soul, and the immediate providence of a deity,
in opposition to sceptics" as well as "atheists".(Berkeley, pg xi)Throughout the work, it can be
deduced that Philonous represents Berkeley's own point of view regarding the argument at hand,
while Hylas represents various opinions that oppose

The Importance of Harry Hoveden in Making History Essay
The Importance of Harry Hoveden in Making History
In making history, Brian Friel uses Hugh O'Neill to define the characters in the play, and the way in
which his actions affect them gives the audience some characteristics to decide on the personality of
particular characters.
Harry Hoveden is obviously an important character in the play because he plays a major part in the
play, and appears in most of the major scenes. It is also clear that he is important to O'Neill because
he is often the one person he turns to in times of crisis.
Harry is presented as a very loyal and sober character by, he serves to balance out some of the other

This calming and soothing effect also reflects on the audience because if he was not included, the
play would be a lot more negative and the audience would be more likely to feel insecure about the
flow of the play. His character contrasts so much with most of the other characters that it adds
diversity to making history. It makes some scenes more interesting because of the presence of this
calm and obviously intelligent character and his political soundness can mock characters like
O'Donnell. When compared to characters like O'Donnell
Harry is a very likeable character and appears as someone to be trusted and relied upon.
Brian Friel also uses him and his overwhelming loyalty towards O'Neill to show a weakness in
O'Neill's character. O'Neill uses Harry to portray certain characters via contrast and particularly
O'Neill by the way he treats Harry. It often appears that O'Neill takes Harry for granted showing
another side to his character that can be thought of as weakness. Also the fact that whenever O'Neill
puts Harry down he regrets it almost immediately shows that O'Neill is insecure and sometimes does
not think before he speaks, so Brian Friel uses Harry to show a very important side to O'Neill that
could have affected his judgment during the wars he fought and led.
Harry is also an expositional character, and Brian uses him to expose

in turn helps you better appreciate the differences in culture, language, belief and religion without
refusing it right away. In this case, you become more mature, tolerant and understanding as you
widen your horizons.

Make sure that you take along basic clothes when you travel. What I mean here is a practical stuff
that you don't have to iron – and which dries easily. You never know when you just might need it!
It's always a good idea to pack your favorite necessities to pump up your look!
Keep Things Relaxed
Try not to set schedules so that you won't end up rushing about and getting stressed. Relax, and keep
feeling comfortable while travelling. In this way, you can see as much as you can and discover as
many things as possible at your own pace.
Always Keep Yourself Aware While Travelling
It's very common that people get so relaxed until they forget to be cautious of their properties and
belongings. It's always common for tourists to become a victim of pickpockets, so try not to bring
along so much cash with you. Never keep your wallet in the back pocket. Also, keep yourself
vigilant of your surroundings.
Take the City Tour
It's always a good idea to take a one–day city tour to get you familiar with the area. You may also
take note of the places that are particular interest to you. By doing this, you can explore further the
following day on your own.

The Origin Of Organic Abstraction
Organic Abstraction The origin of organic abstraction is centered around the post–World War artistic
talents pioneered by Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore. Sharing the same philosophy of Henri
Bergeson, who believed "evolutionary process (nature) and artist creativity (art) come from the same
origin." (32 Bergson) Using nature as a muse of creation, artists used simple curves and lines to
define and object to resemble that of a human body or other living natural objects. War brought
about conformity and closed minded views on every aspect of life. During this time significant
ruler's such as Hitler and Stalin influenced every aspect of life and death for the world. Many artists
revolted against the idealism of the time. Moore and Hepworth began the journey and sought refuge
and peaceful surroundings of St. Ives to start their own artist group which held (in the beginning)
nineteen different artists with the same beliefs and expressions. Moore felt that "every material has
its own individual qualities." (728 Wadsworth) His work consisted of large pieces that were rounded
in shape and even though they were not formed in the ideal human form was still visible.
Hepworth's artwork was similar she took ordinary pieces of wood and opened them to new
dynamics and shapes appealing to the eye. Organic artworks fit well in nature because they are
inspired by nature. Natural forms of art would inspire other well–known artists to embrace the
organic abstraction beliefs, bringing

Context Is King: What Makes As A Writer?
THE KING OF CONTENT
"Context is king," is the phrase my professor repeated to the class as I studied hermeneutics (i.e.,
biblical interpretation). At first I was a little tired of hearing it every week, but it was not until I
started interpreting the Bible for myself that I realized the importance of that statement. D.A. Carson
says, "I dare never forget that students do not learn everything I try to teach them but primarily what
I am excited about." Students may hear many things from their English teachers, but I hope this
phrase is repeated by teachers in every writing class, "Content is king." This semester I have learned
many tools on how to improve as a writer, and I believe all good writing consists of rewriting.
The first idea I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that most of the signals in the school are telling students to write Engfish...the student...learns a
language that prevents him from working towards truths, and then he tells lies.
In the past, I have spent more time caring about how to sound "right" when writing a paper, than
what I am actually trying to convey. Instead of feeling encouraged to write well, students feel
compelled to write in a way that sounds academically right. In other words, students feel like the
form of their paper is more important than what the paper means; what they are being taught is,
"Sentence structure is king." One might think "Engfish" happens only when students write papers
they are not interested in, which often happens, but "Engfish" also happens when students are
interested in the subject they are writing about. I have wrestled with using "Engfish" this semester
when writing papers, which means many hours were spent rewriting my sentences. I hope to
improve any future writing by eliminating "Engfish" ¬– which means I

Henrietta Lacks : An Abstraction
Elie Wiesel has stated "We must not see any person as an abstraction. Instead, we must see in every
person a universe with its own secrets, with its own treasures, with its own sources of anguish, and
with some measure of triumph" (as cited in Skloot, 2010, p. 1). This paper will examine the many
ways in which Henrietta Lacks, a relatively poor African woman whose cells were extracted from
her without any consent, was viewed primarily as an abstraction rather than a person by the
scientific community and the media; and the consequences that ensued as a result.
The scientific community is culpable of viewing Henrietta Lacks as an abstraction rather than a
human being in that they disregarded her right to privacy in extracting her cells ... Show more

Additionally, the scientific community did not display an ounce of respect to Lacks nor her family.
The media was also involved in neglecting to recognize Lacks as a person rather than a concept. The
media bereaved Lacks of her identity as they called her by the name Helen Lane instead of using her
real her real name. The use of the fictitious and more Caucasian name to identify Lacks in the media
further dehumanized her and her family's memory of her. They did not whatsoever consider Lacks'
family, their ordeal and whether or not the assumptions of Lacks being made were accurate.
Moreover, the media did not provide any remuneration to Lacks' family for using her story for their
benefit. For example, an episode on the very popular television show Law and Order was based on
the story of Henrietta Lacks however, no credit nor payment was given to the family. Apparent here
is further display of the media's view of lacks as an abstraction rather than a person.
Rebecca Skloot, however, used a different perspective in her portrayal of Lacks. This is evident in
the way in which she conducted her research and the way she wrote the book. Skloot's book, The
immortal life of Henrietta Lacks, included both the "scientific element concerns the origin and the
subsequent uses of the HeLa cell line of cultured cancer cells" (Harper, 2011, p. 463) and the social

On Seeing Larry Rivers
Presentation Essay
The question of seeing is a crucial element in the understanding of ekphrastic writing. O'Hara's role
as a poet, critic and curator offers extensive insight into the necessity of seeing in the procedure of
ekphrastic writing and the relationship between painting and writing. His personal relationships with
painters such as Larry Rivers not only affect O'Hara's work, but also offer a glimpse into the
endobiotic nature of ekphrasitc writing. O'Hara's ekphrastic work thrives from within the artistic
realm and work of painters, gaining a foothold and moving beyond and completing the artistic idea.

The intertextuality of Rivers' and O'Hara's work serves to demonstrate a translation of the process of
abstraction from the painterly realm to the written one. O'Hara's work is not one of pure abstraction,
as the formality of poetry, i.e. its form, its language, is not abstract. O'Hara's work itself is not
abstract; rather the process of writing is a process of abstraction. Thus O'Hara embodies the text and
technique of Rivers' work and abstractions. O'Hara's ekphrastic poetic practice thus takes from the
painterly aesthetic and teachings to render and develop the ideas of writing in response to paintings.
Whether his work is exemplifying the possibilities of ekphrastic writing or abstract poetry, O'Hara

Henrietta Cell Abstraction
Merriam Webster defines an abstraction as "a general idea or quality rather than an actual person."
Humans are immensely complex creatures who cannot be confined to stereotypes, classifications or
labels. Each person is equipped with their own set of traits, talents and capabilities that make them
who they are. Viewing a person as simply an abstraction restricts them to a category stating who and
what they are allowed to be effectively taking away the uniqueness each and every person has a

mentioned them to her in conversation. The news was shocking, filling her with terror and panic. "It

life were suddenly true, and happening to her." Nobody from Hopkins had ever come to explain to
the family what was being done with henrietta's cells, and the horror stories they heard about
research studies done at Hopkins provided no comfort when the news of her cells finally reached
them. Each member of the family was brimming with questions concerning their loved one, but no
one seemed to be willing to answer their questions. During Rogers investigation of the family for his
report, he learned "They truly had no idea what was going on, and they really wanted to understand.
But doctors just took blood samples without explaining anything and left the family worrying."
Doctors saw henrietta as HeLa, and her family only materialized when research required their
participation. Henrietta was no more than a cell to them, allowing them to likewise treat her family

Classroom Philosophy Reflection Paper
Introduction Thinking about how education is taught in schools and all the different pedagogical
practices makes me wonder what these practices are actually fulfilling. There are many different
ways to approach a classroom environment. An individual can look at things from the student's
perspective, the teacher's perspectives, or just the way the classroom functions altogether. I reflect
on when I was in high school and, after learning in detail about all of these pedagogies, I can easily
say that the classrooms I was taught in were combinations of multiple pedagogies. I believe as
someone becoming a teacher we need to refine how the classroom should be run, and what the
student and teacher's role should be. I think we need to shift our focus to an open–minded and open
environment pedagogy. I mean this in the sense that the environment should be an open place, a safe
haven, the students can speak their minds and beliefs freely. I myself too many times have been in a
classroom where I have felt restricted, bounded and unable to voice what I believe in because of the
way the classroom was run. Along with this, we need to be open–minded in the sense of viewing
things from multiple perspectives and allowing the student to soar beyond the topic that is presented
to them. I feel as though too many teachers close the door to exploring and thinking out of the box
in fear of what it might bring and that I way I believe in an open classroom pedagogy.

Concretization Essay example
Concretization
As with almost every aspect of "developed" or "first world" culture, a cloud of laziness accompanies
any call to a challenge. Although finding an easier means of overcoming obstacles has been rooted
in human existence since we came to roam the earth, it appears we have achieved a new level of
indolence. Understanding abstract philosophical or religions bares no exception. To witness this one
need look no further than todays pop culture. A quick Google search of "celebrity tattoos" yields

This is often portrayed by the Taijitu symbol that most western cultures are familiar with. What is
often difficult to understand about Yin–Yang is that it is ultimately a teaching of metaphysical
dualism. This is to say that one is only as much itself as it is the absence of its counterpart; light is
just the absence of darkness. The concept seems simple when applying it to light and dark but when
it comes to questions of existence or consciousness it becomes difficult to understand. Consequently,
people, either due to laziness or ignorance, attach themselves to the concrete symbol and the
simplest explanation to accompany it. Thus we see that the Taijitu, in western culture, has itself
adopted the name the Yin–Yang or more absurdly the "Ying– yang". I have a friend who to this day
thinks he has a tattoo Yin–Yang tattoo. It's a pretty abstract and unlimited concept to fit in the
confines of ones skin; I'm not sure if he even is aware of the word Taijitu; I don't think I should ask.
The development of concretization, however, cannot lay burden solely on the symbol. Symbols have
been used to represent religions, philosophies and factions of all sorts for thousands of years.
Instead, I believe ignorance, and furthermore the lack of motivation to rid oneself of ignorance, is to
blame. This has become increasingly evident in the modernized world we live in today. In a

Difference Between Group Work And Group Work
 Introduction
In today's modern era of this world work is very important for everyone. No one can survive in this
world without any work. Work is a activity where we can apply our ideas in an particular situation.
We can't define work as a single type or term because work is comes with its number of parts and
types like SOCIAL, PROJECT WORK and much more types. In this paper I am going to flash a

1. Group Work
Group work is also known as team work when two or more than two persons are working on a same
project is known as group work. In group work we can share our ideas with our co–partners and
give that idea a new shape. Group work is a type of voluntary association that increases the total
output of the activity rather than it is done by individually.

In a group every person had its own ideas, prospects and experiences. In a group every person is
belong from an different backgrounds and have a different experiences so that's why every person
have an different ideas on his basis that's why we can get lot ideas in our group work.
Increase Productivity
By making actions and decisions together (regardless of their position). By working in a group

Figurative Language In Frankenstein
In Frankenstein, Shelley uses a variety of figurative language that contribute to the novel's
depressing atmosphere. Figurative language, such as allusions, personifications, and similes,
establishes a relationship between two literally contrasting subjects. It prompts readers to more
closely analyze the subjects for underlying similarities. It can also add to depth to the piece and
enhance the overall novel by making abstract concepts more digestible.
During the monster's narration, the author utilizes a series of biblical allusions to express the
monster's anguish and his relationship with Victor. While the monster identifies with Satan, he also
points out, "Satan had his companions, fellow–devils, to admire and encourage him; but I am
solitary and abhorred" (Shelley 93). Satan is usually viewed as a miserable creature, because he was
exiled from heaven and can no longer live in God's glory. However, the monster reveals that even
Satan is more fortunate than him, because at least, Satan is not completely isolated in Hell. The
allusion emphasizes the extent of the monster's loneliness. Additionally, the monster reveals, "Many
times, I consider Satan as the fitter emblem of my condition..." (Shelley 93). Shelley compares the
monster to the biblical figure, Satan, who embodies evil. She emphasizes the monster's miserable
existence, because similar to Satan, his existence has only brought tragedy and evil upon the world.
Overall, her comparison to Satan induces readers to

people use their perception and judgment in different ways. The best way to conduct this test is
through an experienced MBIT administrator, however, there are online tools than can help one
achieve almost similar results. Our life experiences play an important role in this test as what we
have done or have been doing is what determines the answer an individual gives.

choices of actions throughout my life have been based on the four letters. Firstly, my mental energy
is mostly influenced by the environment. In case of an abrupt event, I act first then reflect later on
the consequences of my actions. I prefer spending my leisure time with my friends partying and not
just sitting reading books or enjoying lonely walks at night. In case I am grounded I feel deprived as
the interaction which I have with the outside world is cut. When I get into a new environment, it is

common outside of America.
Q2) How could students acquired immersion in their learning if given the opportunity to pick what

Therefore, without having the fundamental language it would be difficult to form an idea around a
scientific concept.
One concept which I want to remember is that choice is the key to motivating writers. I want to
remember this concept because I believe choice is necessary to allow writers to use their previously
experience and interests to feel engaged while writing. Additionally, I believe the concept of choice
can also be used to motivate reading as well. This is significant because I believe when a topic
correlates with the student interests or experience they are able to use a more expansive conceptual
framework when writing. Therefore, I have always personally enjoy reading or writing more the
more I am able to make connections to my personal experience, interests, or ideology. Conclusively,
I believe when choice is given in writing or reading it is easier for the students to engage with the
learning experience.
Another term I felt important in this chapter was immersion. Immersion, in the context of learning,
is allowing oneself to experience a variety of experiences or topics. I want to remember immersion
because I have to realize as an educator not every student has the same experience. Therefore, the
students might never be immerse in different experiences or perspectives in their life. Additionally, I

David Lewis 's New Work For A Theory Of Universals
One consequence of viewing ontology and identity as relative is that properties and universals
hardly seem much more problematic. Although universals obviously do not exist on a fundamental
level, I think both David Lewis and David Armstrong provide helpful suggestions on the scope of
universals in practical discourse. While David Lewis's essay "New Work for a Theory of Universals"
(1983) is quite extensive in its scope and insight, I only wish to draw attention to his reasoning
about the scope of universals. Lewis makes a more radical distinction between "property" and
"universal" than most philosophers. Lewis defines the word "property" very broadly: an object has a
property by virtue of being a member of a set, so there are as many properties as there are sets.
Given that Lewis is a realist about both set theory and possible worlds, he must recognize a vast and
exotic array of properties. There is a property of fuzzy redness and non–square largeness as much as
there is a property of redness, both being sets. Obviously not everything that is designated a property
can claim the status of universal. Only those properties that can be wholly present in multiple
locations are candidates for being universals. Among these, those given by empirical science
(natural properties) make the final cut and are crowned as universals. In "Universals as Attributes,"
Armstrong grants that universals exist but denies that they can exist as uninstantiated abstractions.
Rather, he

Lockes Doctrine Of Abstraction

  • 1. Lockes Doctrine of Abstraction John Locke and George Berkeley are two famous philosophers whose work found similarities in their proximity of publication, but stark differences in their beliefs. In Locke's Essay Concerning Human Understanding, he argued passionately for his doctrine of abstract ideas. On the other hand, Berkeley, in his work, Principles of Human Knowledge, he made every effort to reject all of Locke's claims. Although viciously attacked by Berkeley, Locke's doctrine of abstraction holds true as a fundamentally sound and practical doctrine for the advancement of knowledge and communication. In Book II of Essay, Locke formulates theories on how knowledge is acquired. Previously in Essay, Locke establishes his position as an empiricist through his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beginning with the "inability to abstract" argument, followed by the "inconsistent and confusing" and ending with "unnecessary" argument, Berkeley outlines what he believes to be a "killing blow" to Locke's doctrine. However, his rejection of abstraction is rather weak. As stated before, Berkeley begins his rejection of abstraction by stating that the human mind is unable to abstract. He illustrates his point through a thought experiment, "I can consider the hand, the eye, the nose, each by itself abstracted or separated from the rest of the body. but then whatever hand or eye I imagine, it must have some particular shape and color...I cannot by any effort of thought conceive the abstract idea above described. And it is impossible for me to form the abstract idea of motion distinct from the body moving." (PHK intro 10) In this example, Berkeley demonstrates his attempt to form a general idea through the process of abstraction. He concludes that the human mind is unable to accomplish this as it is impossible not to attribute specific and particular qualities to an idea when abstracting it. This being so, when imaging an idea, one cannot view it in general terms, but instead can only view it particularly. This argument doesn't really develop any strengths or weakness for or against Abstraction. If posed with the same thought experiment, Locke would surely answer that he would be able to form abstract ideas within his mind. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Nursing Concept Analysis Paper A concept is an image molded from ones on personal experience, knowledge, expectations and emotions. Concepts are the abstractions and the building blocks of theories and conceptual frameworks (Cline, 2015). "Concept analysis is a term that refers to the process of unfolding, exploring, and understanding concepts for the purpose of delineation, comparison, clarification, refinement, and validation" (Townsend & Scanlan, 2011, p.1 ). Concept analysis makes a vague or unclear concept to clearer so that everyone shares a common language. When a theory is conceptually analyzed, it is considered valued. Concept analysis is a method of concept development and is a component of theory development. A major portion of the nursing theories, research and concepts are borrowed from other disciplines, the validity of these concepts need to be evaluated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Walker and Avant's concept analysis model was used to analyze the concept of spiritual care to provide an inclusive definition of the spiritual care in nursing. The concept analysis was done based on Jean Watson's caring theory. According to Watson spiritual care is the core of nursing care. Spirituality is a critical component in nursing to provide holistic care to the patient. Even though the increasing awareness of spiritual care present, such care is lacking in nursing (Ramezani et al., 2014). This paper will provide a detailed description of concept analysis on spirituality based on Jean Watson's caring theory. • 5. Expository Teaching Highly abstract concepts, such as jurisprudence and sovereignty, oftentimes cause high school students much struggle when trying to thoroughly understand such conceptual ideas. To teach these theoretical concepts, one must not only equivalently utilize David Ausubel's Expository teaching model, but also retain an overall knowledge of other valuable strategies related to Ausubels's model (Woolfolk, 2004, p. 281). To Ausubel, the most significant idea is that of the advance organizer, a statement of introduction that aids students in organizing the information about to be presented. Also to a teacher's benefit are the ideas needed to form a concept, such as exemplars, defining features, irrelevant features, non–examples, and prototypes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reviewing material introduced in question and answer format is an efficient way to connect the information back to the advance organizer. Sovereignty also has a core meaning, "supreme authority within a territory". In other words, the holder of sovereignty is superior to all authorities under its purview (plato.stanford.edu). The advance organizer for sovereignty might include a comparison of different types of "supreme" authorities. One might ask questions such as, "Is high school an example of sovereignty?", or "Is your family an example of sovereignty?" A discussion of other countries, historically and today, would also help expand this idea. Discussing the prototype of each idea will help in relating the content covered back to the advance organizer. While using expository teaching to present a concept, one would start with an advance organizer. A comparative organizer, which compares old and new information, would aid in beginning a lesson dealing with the concept of mammals (Woolfolk, 2004, p. 281). The lesson could begin with a statement or diagram that connects several different mammals and deals with comparing and contrasting their relationship. A teacher would continue by naming and defining the concept, and producing exemplars, or actual instances. Mammals can be defined as various "warm–blooded vertebrate animals of the class Mammalia, including humans, characterized by a covering of hair on the skin, and in the ... • 7. Developing A Framework Is A Major Step For Research Process Developing a framework is a major step in research process. As Doctor of nursing practice(DNP), it is important to understand theories and framework related to theoretical ideas and application. The term Concept used in nursing to describe or name a phenomenon to give meaning. (Grove, S., Burns, N., & Gray, J., 2013). Depression is an example of a concept which relates to low mood, loss of interest or pleasure, lack of motivation, decreased energy and low self–esteem. Concepts differ at the level of abstraction. According to Grove, S, et al. (2013) relationships statement between two or more concepts provides a framework leading to the study objective, hypothesis, study design and statistical analysis needed. Abstract concepts may not apply to clinical practice. Conceptual model also is known as grand theory is used to explain philosophical standpoint. The theory consists of concepts and rational statements used to describe their relationship. Scientific theories are considered law because of their relationship which has evidence. Middle range theories are relevant to both research and practice. it developed from qualitative data, clinical experiences, clinical practice guidelines. Middle range theory compared with the grand theory is less abstract, and more frequently used. Middle range theory helps the practitioner to understand their patient's behavior to be able to come up with interventions that are beneficial to the patient. (Grove, S., Burns, N., & Gray, J., ... • 9. The Metaphysic Of Abstract Particulars Introduction: In this paper I will present the arguments for tropes and their distinction from universals and particulars as presented by Keith Campbell in his paper "The Metaphysic of Abstract Particulars." I will then present a counter argument to Campbell's evaluation and provide possible responses to those arguments. I will also provide possible adjustments Campbell could make to create a more sound argument. Campbell's Argument: Since Plato, two mutually exclusive yet essential categories of reality have been posited, one of concrete particulars and the other being abstract universals. Particulars are "unproblematic," but universals may be entirely extant in many positions with no influence on the universal itself. A particular "distinguishing mark is that is exhausted in the one embodiment, or occasion, or example." (Campbell 298) Particulars are unproblematic because they are restricted to a single point at any given time, not like universals which exist in different locations and are wholly present in those instances. The number of examples which contain the abstract universals are not diminished in quality of the universal. Campbell posits that this "problem" can be alleviated if properties were not universal at all. There is a distinction between abstract and concrete which differs from the distinction between universals and particulars. This is because particulars and universals can both be abstract where only particulars can be concrete. The particulars that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Concept: Concept And Concept Concept is the basic component that build up the development to our world. It can be assumed from some specific instances or things that already existed. In some circumstances, concept is some thoughts that people had already been thought about, and had already got some development, and that's the difference between concept and idea. On the other hand, concept is also a more abstract and more realistic thought. However, concept might be relying on the religion or the cultural difference, and can cause different thought by people in different life backgrounds. Indeed, people had discovered there are many types of concept which can be use in variety of ways. For example, in Mathematics people can use some concepts to figure out a new way to solve problems or structure out a new formula. And in Science subjects people use concept to solve ongoing mystery or find out new discovery. As an art student, in art or design, I use concept to build up new ideas. • 13. The Inspired Kantian Non Formalism Analysis Chapter Four The Inspired Kantian Non–Formalism The interpretation of Kant as a moral formalist or constructivist precisely, has been dominant in much of the recent secondary literature on Kant in English–speaking world, for Silber, Rawls and O'Neill we analyzed. Those interpretations have lately come under sustained philosophical attack by the defenders of a non–moral formalist or realist interpretation of Kant. We have mentioned at the outset, the essential division for formalist and non–formalist is in their understanding C1 as a 'formal' accomplishment or not. So far we have seen the formalist holds out for the preeminence of universalzation in the hierarchy of principles, i.e. the buttressing rules Rawls or O'Neill posed. Now we are to see how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The concept of moral law springs from pure reason or reason that exists separate from empirical considerations. Since pure reason is able to be relevant to material action, we see a conceptual bridge is constructed in the form of the maxim, to the degree that it is tested in accordance to prescriptive law, a determinate rule of action. This determination, it must be stressed, is voluntary and subjectively constructed, while the basis of the analysis, this intend to act from duty, is based on an understanding of moral law. Hence, Dietrichson points out a non–formal approach to explain Kant, it is non–formal because it raises the humanity–the material for Kant to guide action. Precisely, because the pure reason enables us to grasp the moral law, we are striking to fulfill the requirement to act 'from' duty as it constitutes purity of our humanity. • 15. Selective Abstraction Selective abstraction–one example of this would be a person getting a good grade in a class but mainly focusing on the one assignment that they got a bad grade in and think about that in a negative aspect. I use this sometimes because in my life I always want to do my very best when it comes to school, when get a bad grade I sometimes do dwell on that for a while. Negative predication, one example of this would be if a person thinks that they are not going to get an apartment that they signed up for even though they have a perfect record when it comes to paying rent on time. Overgeneralization– one example for this would be if an individual had a bad day at work, he might conclude that he is a bad coworker. Looking through the many cognitive ... • 17. Rhetorical Analysis Of Lucas 's ' The Art Of Public Speaking Lisa, head publisher of a rising publishing firm company. She starts her day by speaking to her publicity team on some new marketing strategies. Lisa then spends time on the phone talking with all of the editors she represents. At a lunch meeting Lisa talks to the executive board on a couple of manuscripts she has been championing. Would one think that Lisa is a public speaker? Most people would say no, but after reading Stephen Lucas the Art of Public Speaking, I have learned that Lisa is a public speaker and is using her public speaking skills to inform her coworkers. Chapter 15 is about speaking to inform an audience. Lucas begins this chapter with the types of informative speeches and some analysis and organization skills for each topic. There are many ways to classify an informative speech, Lucas breaks it down into four main topics: objects, processes, events, and concepts. Lucas begins this chapter by speaking on speeches about objects. Lucas defines an object as "Objects include anything that is visible, tangible, and stable to form. ... Here are examples of subjects for speeches about objects e–book readers, Susan B. Anthony, service dogs, titanium, human eye and Golden Gate Bridge" (Lucas, 2012, pg. 278.). Lucas reminds us that whatever subject a speaker will pick they must know that they will not be able to tell everything on the subject. To instead pick the most important ideas the speaker wants to get across and use those to develop a main point. Next Lucas shows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Physical Value in Keats' Ode on a Grecian Urn Essay Physical Value in Keats' Ode on a Grecian Urn The poetry of John Keats contains many references to physical things, from nightingales to gold and silver–garnished things, and a casual reader might be tempted to accept these at face value, as simple physical objects meant to evoke a response either sensual or emotional; however, this is not the case. Keats, in the poem Ode Upon a Grecian Urn, turns the traditional understanding of physical objects on its head, and uses them not solid tangible articles, but instead as metaphors for and connections to abstract concepts, such as truth and eternity. In the poem, Keats dismisses the value of physical things as only corporeal for what he feels is more substantial and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What is the metaphysical "truth" then, that Keats seeks to connect to the physical beauty of the Grecian urn? Webster defines truth as "Conformity to fact or reality; exact accordance with that which is, or has been; or shall be."; another description, more Romantic and fitting to Keats, is Bertrand Russell's: "Truth is a shining goddess, always veiled, always distant, never wholly approachable, but worthy of all the devotion of which the human spirit is capable.". Keats is essentially saying through the urn that truth, the conforming to facts, is the exact same thing as physical beauty; beauty is a factual attribute of an object. An analysis of the text, searching for connections between the abstract and the tangible, would do much to elucidate this matter. The poem is broken into five parts. The first section opens with a description of the urn as a bride, a foster–child, a historian. All these personifications are subtle linkings of the abstract actions related to those roles which Keats assigns to the concrete object, the urn. He then further reinforces this subtle link with a series of observations on what is painted on the urn. "What men or gods are these? What maidens loath? / What mad pursuit? What struggle to escape? / What pipes and timbrels? What wild ecstasy?" (lines 8–10) is another demonstration; he makes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before starting a business, entrepreneurs need to take and use the methods to generate creative ideas for product to be marketed and test new ideas. The methods are the focus group method, brainstorming, brainwriting and problem inventory analysis. These methods are best suitable for an organization that needs expansion in products or services First is focus group method, focus group is defined as a group of individuals providing information in a structured format. • 23. Reflection On Francisco De Quevedo Christopher Johnson's visit for our class on Francisco de Quevedo was a significant addition to our ongoing discussion regarding the Baroque, as he was not only able to provide insights into our critical reading of Quevedo's work–as a scholar of the Baroque and translator of his poetry–but also posed questions and concerns that will undoubtedly continue to guide our thinking as we move from the Baroque to the Neo–Baroque. Starting from the premise of the Baroque as an aesthetic that demands some kind of meta–disciplinary work, I was particularly interested in Johnson's emphasis on the idea of polarity. Although we had previously discussed the presence of a polarity of sorts in some of the texts we have read, Johnson's attention to the term, emerging from Spitzer's essay, has prompted my thinking towards not just the presence, but the development of this concept throughout. In Luis de Góngora's Soledades, we see violent contrasts of the ascendant and the degrading vision. Sor Juana's Primero sueño takes us on a voyage of the soul that escapes the body, and on a voyage of the internal universe of the body that seems to facilitate the escaping of the soul. Quevedo's poetry showcases both a skillfully mastery of the poetic structures and elements, yet conjugates this with often time very un–poetic topoi that emphasizes the scatological. When we seriously we really know anything at all, we innate lead into test of knowing, in the hope of being capable to discriminate the trustworthy beliefs from such as are untrustworthy. Knowledge is the principal intellectual attainment studies of epistemology. Virtually all theorists agree that true belief is a necessary condition for knowledge, and it was once thought that justification, when added to true belief, yield a necessary and sufficient condition for knowledge. All of us have an innate knowledge, concepts, forms, or universals that are an essential and inborn part that compose our mind. Without this rational knowledge would be impossible. Since substances must be capable of independent existence, it appears that they cannot be universals but must be particulars. However, this generated a dilemma since Aristotle also believed that only knowledge were defined and the object of scientific knowledge ( Introducing Grace Wester Thinker ). Thus if the substance is knowable, they cannot be particulars. But now it looks as if substance cannot exist at all since they cannot be either knowledge or particulars. According to Plato, knowledge can be gained by researching within, but Plato also addressed the common man's potential for achieving knowledge despite his deficient condition in comparison to the Platonic idea. In the famous allegory of the cave in the Republic, Plato offers a quite realistic view of the common man as being imprisoned in a world of becoming. This prisoner takes pictures on the wall for reality. In order to feed from this illustration, he has to turn around toward truth. The prisoners, however, are not able to turn around themselves without help from the outside. But when the prisoner have a chance to go outside the cave he realize that the true image he see in the cave has a true image in reality. It is already remarkable that they acquire such large amounts of knowledge during their early years, and social categories are just a small part of that. They start to understand that every object they encounter has a name through language so it would not be surprising to learn that language plays a vital role in children's formation of social categories as well. The manner in which adults talk and teach children in particular are how language influences their thoughts. One example of how children have to sort and form categories is because they are presented with so many different characteristics about a person such as language, hair color, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The focus of the investigation was on how children develop categories through noun labels, visual cues, or non–intrinsic cues. The study addressed the hypothesis that young children assimilate social categories to biological ones, essentializing them as they do species kinds. They explored the hypothesis that children will differentiate intrinsic cues like skin color over nonintrinsic cues like clothing when forming representations of social groups. One important theme is that noun labels encourage children to form categories, especially those that apply to people. In other words, language appears to play a huge role in forming concepts of race and gender. This idea is interesting because it contrasts with the norm belief that children make social categorization alone through visual cues as the children take in all the information around them and as they become more exposed to different parts of society. Another important idea is that only in the presence of noun labels were visual cues sufficient to form categories. It conveys that there is a certain way that children think about these social categories of race and gender (Baron, Dunham, Banaji & Carey, 2014). The study consisted of 24 different white children for each of the seven experiments. Why The Mona Lisa May Not Be A Painting Essay When it comes to art appreciation and definition one is left at odds when societal practices do not reflect theoretically sound arguments regarding the identity of a work. On one hand, paintings like the Mona Lisa are displayed with great importance in museums around the world, with thousands of visitors daily trekking to see "the" Mona Lisa, while just outside vendors are selling copies on canvas, poster and magnet of the very same image. To help in the understanding of this phenomenon, and to determine the work identity of the Mona Lisa, we shall examine the validity of arguments put forth by Frank Sibley in "Why the Mona Lisa May Not be a Painting" which draws upon several concepts of art identity put forth by Goodman and Elgin in "Interpretation and Identity: Can the Work Survive the World?". After this examination I will briefly add on to Sibley's arguments bringing them a step further in conclusion, but let us first begin with the establishing principles of work identity proposed in the two articles. When introducing the concept of text being equal to work, Goodman proposes literary pluralism; where one text produces one work with multiple valid, and allowably contradictory, interpretations. This pluralism is present only in allographic art forms that are not linked to physical objects. "Pluralism about literature seems more plausible than pluralism about reality". He argues that literature may have interpretations that conflict, but in the physical world one cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Differences Between Hylas And Philonous Abstract ideas pertaining to epistemology in philosophy are almost as old as the concept of philosophy itself. Dating back to thinkers such as Aristotle, carrying on throughout the medieval period and into modern philosophy, abstracts have always been grappled with. George Berkeley's epistemology about abstract ideas has historically been one that has drawn the attention of many other scholars and philosophical thinkers. His thoughts on ideas, specifically his expansion of Locke's general abstract ideas, are still argued to this very day. His critique of Locke's view of abstract ideas and ideas in general, is successful in refuting his claims, and is validated in the Three Dialogues between Hylas and Philonous, and can be expanded upon in another one of Berkeley's works, A Treatise Concerning the Principles of Human Knowledge. Berkeley's work, Three Dialogues between Hylas and Philonous, can be described as a series of dialogues between Hylas and Philonous regarding philosophical issues such as God and materialistic substances as well as ideas. The overall goal of the work was "to demonstrate the reality and perfection of human knowledge" along with " the incorporeal nature of the soul, and the immediate providence of a deity, in opposition to sceptics" as well as "atheists".(Berkeley, pg xi)Throughout the work, it can be deduced that Philonous represents Berkeley's own point of view regarding the argument at hand, while Hylas represents various opinions that oppose ... Harry Hoveden is obviously an important character in the play because he plays a major part in the play, and appears in most of the major scenes. It is also clear that he is important to O'Neill because he is often the one person he turns to in times of crisis. It makes some scenes more interesting because of the presence of this calm and obviously intelligent character and his political soundness can mock characters like O'Donnell. When compared to characters like O'Donnell Harry is a very likeable character and appears as someone to be trusted and relied upon. Brian Friel also uses him and his overwhelming loyalty towards O'Neill to show a weakness in O'Neill's character. O'Neill uses Harry to portray certain characters via contrast and particularly O'Neill by the way he treats Harry. It often appears that O'Neill takes Harry for granted showing another side to his character that can be thought of as weakness. Also the fact that whenever O'Neill puts Harry down he regrets it almost immediately shows that O'Neill is insecure and sometimes does not think before he speaks, so Brian Friel uses Harry to show a very important side to O'Neill that could have affected his judgment during the wars he fought and led. • 43. The Origin Of Organic Abstraction Organic Abstraction The origin of organic abstraction is centered around the post–World War artistic talents pioneered by Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore. Sharing the same philosophy of Henri Bergeson, who believed "evolutionary process (nature) and artist creativity (art) come from the same origin." (32 Bergson) Using nature as a muse of creation, artists used simple curves and lines to define and object to resemble that of a human body or other living natural objects. War brought about conformity and closed minded views on every aspect of life. During this time significant ruler's such as Hitler and Stalin influenced every aspect of life and death for the world. Many artists revolted against the idealism of the time. Moore and Hepworth began the journey and sought refuge and peaceful surroundings of St. Ives to start their own artist group which held (in the beginning) nineteen different artists with the same beliefs and expressions. Moore felt that "every material has its own individual qualities." (728 Wadsworth) His work consisted of large pieces that were rounded in shape and even though they were not formed in the ideal human form was still visible. Hepworth's artwork was similar she took ordinary pieces of wood and opened them to new dynamics and shapes appealing to the eye. Classroom Philosophy Reflection Paper Introduction Thinking about how education is taught in schools and all the different pedagogical practices makes me wonder what these practices are actually fulfilling. There are many different ways to approach a classroom environment. An individual can look at things from the student's perspective, the teacher's perspectives, or just the way the classroom functions altogether. I reflect on when I was in high school and, after learning in detail about all of these pedagogies, I can easily say that the classrooms I was taught in were combinations of multiple pedagogies. I believe as someone becoming a teacher we need to refine how the classroom should be run, and what the student and teacher's role should be. I think we need to shift our focus to an open–minded and open environment pedagogy. I mean this in the sense that the environment should be an open place, a safe haven, the students can speak their minds and beliefs freely. I myself too many times have been in a classroom where I have felt restricted, bounded and unable to voice what I believe in because of the way the classroom was run. Along with this, we need to be open–minded in the sense of viewing things from multiple perspectives and allowing the student to soar beyond the topic that is presented to them. I feel as though too many teachers close the door to exploring and thinking out of the box in fear of what it might bring and that I way I believe in an open classroom pedagogy. Understanding abstract philosophical or religions bares no exception. To witness this one need look no further than todays pop culture. A quick Google search of "celebrity tattoos" yields upwards of 54 million results in a little over 2 tenths of a second. Riddled among the image results are countless crosses, Taijitu's, words in Sanskrit and other philosophical or religious symbols. Riddled among these are famous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is often portrayed by the Taijitu symbol that most western cultures are familiar with. What is often difficult to understand about Yin–Yang is that it is ultimately a teaching of metaphysical dualism. This is to say that one is only as much itself as it is the absence of its counterpart; light is just the absence of darkness. The concept seems simple when applying it to light and dark but when it comes to questions of existence or consciousness it becomes difficult to understand. Consequently, people, either due to laziness or ignorance, attach themselves to the concrete symbol and the simplest explanation to accompany it. Thus we see that the Taijitu, in western culture, has itself adopted the name the Yin–Yang or more absurdly the "Ying– yang". I have a friend who to this day thinks he has a tattoo Yin–Yang tattoo. It's a pretty abstract and unlimited concept to fit in the confines of ones skin; I'm not sure if he even is aware of the word Taijitu; I don't think I should ask. The development of concretization, however, cannot lay burden solely on the symbol. Symbols have been used to represent religions, philosophies and factions of all sorts for thousands of years. Instead, I believe ignorance, and furthermore the lack of motivation to rid oneself of ignorance, is to blame. This has become increasingly evident in the modernized world we live in today. In a ... • 72. Figurative Language In Frankenstein In Frankenstein, Shelley uses a variety of figurative language that contribute to the novel's depressing atmosphere. Figurative language, such as allusions, personifications, and similes, establishes a relationship between two literally contrasting subjects. It prompts readers to more closely analyze the subjects for underlying similarities. It can also add to depth to the piece and enhance the overall novel by making abstract concepts more digestible. During the monster's narration, the author utilizes a series of biblical allusions to express the monster's anguish and his relationship with Victor. While the monster identifies with Satan, he also points out, "Satan had his companions, fellow–devils, to admire and encourage him; but I am solitary and abhorred" (Shelley 93). Satan is usually viewed as a miserable creature, because he was exiled from heaven and can no longer live in God's glory. However, the monster reveals that even Satan is more fortunate than him, because at least, Satan is not completely isolated in Hell. The allusion emphasizes the extent of the monster's loneliness. Additionally, the monster reveals, "Many times, I consider Satan as the fitter emblem of my condition..." (Shelley 93). Shelley compares the monster to the biblical figure, Satan, who embodies evil. She emphasizes the monster's miserable existence, because similar to Satan, his existence has only brought tragedy and evil upon the world. Overall, her comparison to Satan induces readers to ... • 74. The Myers Briggs Type Indicator The Myers–Briggs Type Indicator® (MBTI®) helps individuals realize their personalities hence learn their strengths and weaknesses in their field of work. The random behavior an individual conducts on daily basis is thought to be orderly and consistent and differs with personalities as people use their perception and judgment in different ways. The best way to conduct this test is through an experienced MBIT administrator, however, there are online tools than can help one achieve almost similar results. Our life experiences play an important role in this test as what we have done or have been doing is what determines the answer an individual gives. From the test I conducted online on myself the results were ENTP. The URL for the site is http://www.personalitypathways.com/type_inventory.html. These results are true as some of my choices of actions throughout my life have been based on the four letters. Firstly, my mental energy is mostly influenced by the environment. In case of an abrupt event, I act first then reflect later on the consequences of my actions. I prefer spending my leisure time with my friends partying and not just sitting reading books or enjoying lonely walks at night. In case I am grounded I feel deprived as the interaction which I have with the outside world is cut. When I get into a new environment, it is easy for me to get new friends as they are source of my joy and motivation. Being in a crowd is not a problem to me at any occasion. The outside world ... My plan to discovering this answer is to find out if anybody from our class was born outside of American than ask how they learned a topic such as the American measurement system which not common outside of America. Q2) How could students acquired immersion in their learning if given the opportunity to pick what they want to write about through a student–controlled environment? Since the students have different perspectives and experiences, the students can pick what they write about and share with each other their writing to give their classmates a variety of topics, ideas, and perspectives. 2.) One concept which I want to remember is that choice is the key to motivating writers. I want to remember this concept because I believe choice is necessary to allow writers to use their previously experience and interests to feel engaged while writing. Additionally, I believe the concept of choice can also be used to motivate reading as well. This is significant because I believe when a topic correlates with the student interests or experience they are able to use a more expansive conceptual framework when writing. Therefore, I have always personally enjoy reading or writing more the more I am able to make connections to my personal experience, interests, or ideology. Conclusively, I believe when choice is given in writing or reading it is easier for the students to engage with the learning experience. Another term I felt important in this chapter was immersion. Immersion, in the context of learning, is allowing oneself to experience a variety of experiences or topics. I want to remember immersion because I have to realize as an educator not every student has the same experience. Therefore, the students might never be immerse in different experiences or perspectives in their life. Additionally, I think immersion is significant for learners because it is important for people to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. David Lewis 's New Work For A Theory Of Universals One consequence of viewing ontology and identity as relative is that properties and universals hardly seem much more problematic. Although universals obviously do not exist on a fundamental level, I think both David Lewis and David Armstrong provide helpful suggestions on the scope of universals in practical discourse. While David Lewis's essay "New Work for a Theory of Universals" (1983) is quite extensive in its scope and insight, I only wish to draw attention to his reasoning about the scope of universals. Lewis makes a more radical distinction between "property" and "universal" than most philosophers. Lewis defines the word "property" very broadly: an object has a property by virtue of being a member of a set, so there are as many properties as there are sets. Given that Lewis is a realist about both set theory and possible worlds, he must recognize a vast and exotic array of properties. There is a property of fuzzy redness and non–square largeness as much as there is a property of redness, both being sets. Obviously not everything that is designated a property can claim the status of universal. Only those properties that can be wholly present in multiple locations are candidates for being universals. Among these, those given by empirical science (natural properties) make the final cut and are crowned as universals. In "Universals as Attributes," Armstrong grants that universals exist but denies that they can exist as uninstantiated abstractions. Rather, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
