Interactive Powerpoint_How to Master effective communication
Advantages of PC-Based Learning in the Classroom
1.
2. Advantages of the personal
computer
The personal computer in the classroom allows for
students to have project based self directed learning
This project based learning allows us as teachers to
challenge students; providing stimulating questions
and allowing them to search for answers
This search for answers also aids students in
development of their key thinking skills
3. The use of personal computers can also help in
dealing with multi-literacies in the classroom, allowing
students from different backgrounds and cultures to
all search for answers and communicate their
knowledge in new, flexible and diverse methods and
mediums.
4. Computers and their impact on
problem based learning
The introduction of computers into the classroom
setting has led to a change in the pedagogical
practices of teachers and in particular has opened up
an avenue for teachers to challenge students with
self directed problem based learning
Some of the benefits associated with this is that
students are actively engaged in their own learning
with the suggestion being that this allows them to
achieve a deeper understanding of syllabus content
5. Computers and their impact on
problem based learning continued
Another benefit of problem based learning is that it allows
students to develop their key thinking skills as well as skills
involved with problem solving, self-management and
communication. These skills become invaluable in later life
and therefore any aid in their development during the
education process can only be an advantage to students
later in life.
The aforementioned points thus provides inescapable
reasoning as to why computers may provide a positive
impact upon the education of students.
6. Suggested disadvantages of
computers in the classroom setting
There are however, some arguments that suggest the
introduction of computers into the classroom setting may
inhibit students learning
One such suggestion is that it is difficult for teachers to
monitor and control what each student is viewing on their
personal computer during class and that students may
become distracted from their learning and view other
items on their computer thus withdrawing from the
learning process and negatively impacting upon their own
learning
7. Suggested disadvantages of
computers in the classroom setting
continued
It has also been argued that the young age with at
which students are provided with personal computers
may expose them to inappropriate content as it is
often difficult to prevent students curiosity from
leading them astray on the internet and this acts as
another argument against the application of
computers in the classroom setting.
9. As you can see personal computers as a form of
technology is something that should inspire us as
teachers to take teaching to a new level; challenging
students to solve problems and ensuring that we
keep students engaged, involved, thinking, listening
and ultimately learning….
Thank you….
