  the “average person”, curricula
  are made for the average
  student

• Unfortunately this student does
  not exist

• All students have different ways
  of learning that the curricula
  needs to address

   • Not all students will understand information using the same
     means of representation
   • Some need…

• Expression
   • Students express their knowledge in different ways and the
     curriculum should allow this

   • This is especially true for individuals who cannot express
     themselves fluently (either because they are shy, disabled or a
     non-native English speaker)

   • Provide options to express through…

         • Active participation     • Assistive technologies
         • Diagraming               • Problem Solving
         • Creative Writing         • Media Outlets
MULTIPLE MEANS OF…




• Engagement
   • Students need to stay engaged if they are going to learn and
     retain the lesson
   • Within a curriculum students need real choices, authentic
     experiences, useful and guiding feedback
   • Challenging collaborative activities provide many of these
     opportunities to students
