Brooke Harris describes the various media technologies used at different stages of her media project. In pre-production, she researched conventions of her genre using websites like Google and YouTube. During production, she continued online research and used footage from the original song video to inform her own video. In post-production/evaluation, she took screenshots and used blogs to document her work and gather answers from other students to help in evaluating her project. Throughout the process, she used tools like Word, iMovie, and blogger to plan, create, and analyze her work. A school iMac provided necessary software, while footage was captured using a Nikon camera.

Using Media Technologies in the Construction, Research, and Evaluation of a Music Video
1. Brooke Harris
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
Pre-production: I used the internet for such
websites as google/Youtube so that I could
research pre-existing media forms to decode
the work in order for me to collect typical
conventions of my genre, this guided me in the
planning and research stage as it helped me
gain knowledge on my genre and the
codes/conventions within my genre this
enabled me to generate ideas as we analysed
music videos and digi packs of real media
forms to reinforce/gain information.
Production: In the construction of my video I used
the internet to watch the pre-existing video for my
song choice, to look at how that video was
constructed reviewing the pace/rhythm of the song,
so that I knew what I was doing worked; I
constantly looked for ways I could
developed/improve my video. I further looked at
pervious Alevel videos looking at the macro
elements such as the camera shots and how they
used the camera shots in bringing forward there
videos. This helped me as it gave me an idea of
what I needed to incorporate into my video, also
denoting how important the camera shots are,
assisting me to achieve the highest possible marks.
Post production/evaluation: I used the internet for
google and youtube in terms of my evaluation as I
print screened images that were useful to my work,
anchoring my information. I also used google to look
at how pervious students has answered the questions,
the formats they used etc to get an idea for my work,
this helped me to generate answers guiding me in what
I needed to include/develop my answers.

I used blogger in my research
and planning stage to upload
all of my plans/information on
my genre/music video this
helped me develop my
knowledge and acted as a tool
for creating my plans for the
production stage of my video.
In accordance to the construction of my video the use of
blogger helped as I was able to look over notes which
ensured me that I was on track to achieving/sticking to my
plans and I was able to keep looking back at pervious
information such as the convention that I decoded of my
genre to overall make sure I was being successful.
In my evaluation stage I used
blogger to upload my work to
use as a toll for gathering
information that I had
uploaded in order for me to
answer the given questions
successfully as I was able to
assess my work/knowledge.
I used slideshare in my
planning and research stage as
I showed my use of
technologies by using
slideshare as a means of
sharing my information and
my understanding.
Word was a common format that I used throughout my pre
– production and evaluation stages as I used it to past
images, cropping them, rotating them (editing) so that I
could upload them onto I movie/blogger to make my work
more creative, in my evaluation stage I used word to type
up information, this overall the use of word anchored my
information/knowledge.
I used i movie in all three stages of production to create
documents showing my development/work, as it
enabled me to use my creativity and is a direct approach
for displaying my work, I used it to put tighter my
footage in order to produce my music video, this was
highly valid as it allowed me to conform/challenge
conventions, by the use of transitions/filter, playing
around with the footage etc.

The school provided us with an imac this
had all of the media technologies that I
needed to use in order to complete my
course work. This was an effective media
technology, and was easy to use which
helped me to reach deadlines/complete
work.
My filming was done using a Nikon camera all of my
filming was done within a two week period; the camera
was a valid piece of media technology in order for me to of
completed the production stage of my course work. With
my first shoot the footage was blurry, however this looked
effective in my final project. Overall the footage was of
good quality and I am happy with my final music video.
I used survey monkey in the planning and reach stage of
my production as it helped me to gather audience research
which helped me with my task as it gave me an
understanding of my audience expected from my genre,
this helped me to decode the conventions of my genre;
however I didn’t find this an essential piece of media
technology as people didn’t answer the questions maturely
therefore not giving me information that I needed.
