Please call ahead to the school of your choice explain that you are a pre-service teacher at
Westminster College and that you would like to visit the school to see how they use
technology for teaching. See if you can actually observe teaching with technology in a
classroom. If you have difficulty getting into a school please call me and we will visit a
school together. I am comfortable doing this for individuals or teams. My office is 801

The tests are progressing to all electronic so this teacher thinks technology will always be used in
the classroom and will always be an important part in our lives.

The teacher I spoke to didn’t but she thinks others do. Parents would have access

8. Do all the classrooms have computers in them? Explain what you find:
The upper grades had more, probably about one computer to two children. The lower grades did
not have computers for students however all classrooms have a teacher computer.
9. Is there a computer lab/s? If so how is it used and by whom?
Yes it is used by every grade. They learn keyboarding, take tests, and play academic games.
10. What kinds of computers are in the school – PC’s, Laptops, Mac’s etc.? Overhead
projection equipment etc.:
PCs, overhead projectors, smart boards
11. What software programs are regularly used by teachers?
Powerpoint, Microsoft word

Yes because it helps the students learn how to do research themselves which many classrooms
are required to do. The computer lab teacher informed me that she uses the internet frequently
with the children and they are very competent using it.
13. How does a teacher get further training to use technology?
Take courses through the state but it’s hard. College courses typically help

Based off of the social economic status of the school area, I would say at least 90% of the
students have a computer.
15. Did you observe students using computer based technology? If so detail what
you observed:
The students I saw were taking a standardized core test online. The students were wearing
headphones and later played academic games online.

The computer lab teacher wished there were more classes for computer training so that she could
have better experience using the computers.
