Overview <ul><li>My name is Briana Goodnight. </li></ul><ul><li>I started school in 1994 in Maui, Hawaii. </li></ul><ul><li>I graduated from high school in 2007 in Maui. </li></ul><ul><li>I first went to college at University of Hawaii in 2007. </li></ul><ul><li>When I finish my degree, I hope to become an elementary school teacher. </li></ul>
  3. 3. My definition of educational technology Educational technology is the use of computers and other technological devices to enhance student learning, better than “teacher lecture” learning.

  5. 5. Kindergarten technology <ul><li>No computers in the classroom </li></ul><ul><li>The teacher did not even have a computer </li></ul><ul><li>Students did not have computers in their homes </li></ul>
  6. 6. High school technology *At least one computer in every classroom *The library had computers for students to use *Computer and typing classes were offered *Most projects and papers were done on computer *Most students had a computer at home
  7. 7. College technology *Every student has their own laptop *Online classes are offered *Homework is turned in online *Teachers and students communicate through email

A vivid technology learning experience: Elluminate <ul><li>We used Elluminate in my Math class last semester </li></ul><ul><li>Students can chat with each other </li></ul><ul><li>One student at a time can be on the video screen </li></ul><ul><li>The teacher monitors the entire class </li></ul><ul><li>Tests and live conferences </li></ul><ul><li>Drawing board </li></ul>

A technology I want to use in my classroom <ul><li>Laptops- I would love for every student in my class to have a lap top because there are so many wonderful learning experiences and programs that children can learn from, different from reading from a textbook or listening to a teacher lecture </li></ul>
  10. 10. My vision of the classroom of the future <ul><li>I would like to see students on the computer everyday </li></ul><ul><li>Young elementary students will know how to use email and communicate with each other through the internet </li></ul><ul><li>Students can work independently on the computer without teacher assistance </li></ul><ul><li>Some of the core subjects with be completed on the computer </li></ul>
  11. 11. A challenge for teaching <ul><li>My biggest challenge will be transitioning from textbook and teacher led lessons to computer based learning. Not only will students have to learn, but so will I. </li></ul>
