Dental hygiene has had a significant impact on my life since I was a child. While most children would absolutely dread going to have their teeth
cleaned, I was the kid always eager and ready to get to the dentist office. Throughout my journey of traveling through life, I have had several
experiences that just called to me saying dental hygiene is definitely the career for me. Shadowing my own dental hygienists and having the privilege
to be hands on and work with them was amazing. I enjoyed every minute from simply going over X–Rays to getting to know the patients personally. I
am very determined, and plan to exceed my limits mentally and physically while taking the courses for the dental hygiene program. I plan on giving

As a dental hygienist I plan to provide my patients with the best oral health care, including education, prevention, promotion of health, and treatment of
oral infections. I plan to provide adequate and effective dental hygiene care to help patients retain and improve their overall oral health for a better

As of now only a few states have independent dental hygienist one being the state of Maine where I attended dental hygiene school. In Massachusetts,
where I plan to practice dental hygiene, independent dental hygienist is still under review in the state house. Seeing more states approve independent
dental hygienist practice would be a major achievement in the dental hygiene field. Dental hygienists go through a lot of examination in order to be
registered. Taking a minimum of four exams they under go more testing than dental students. Our experience in providing patient care is exceptional
producing x–rays, administering local anesthetic, patient education, scaling, and much more. Allowing hygienist to practice independently would open
up many opportunities for patients and registered dental hygienists. However, this is a challenge because many dentists do not want the hygienists
taking away business from them. Patient compliance is difficult to achieve especially when you have a patient that is unwilling to change their habits
for an improvement in their oral health. As a dental hygienist I plan to provide adequate dental care and educate my patients enough to the point where
they become more compliant. I am hoping through the advances in dental hygiene we can reach a point where patient compliance is at an all time
high. Having more evidence and hands on tools to show the patients

Essay On Dental Hygienist
A dental team is usually composed of a dentist, dental assistant, and dental hygienist. This effective and efficient team works in unison to meet the
needs of patients. Each member plays a vital role; specifically, the dental hygienist plays an integral role in helping patients achieve and maintain
optimal oral health. Adental hygienist's main approach in patient care is disease prevention. They implement this approach by identifying and treating
oral diseases. One of the first questions a dental hygienist will ask is, "has anything been bothering you?" By asking this question and examining the
mouth a dental hygienist can form an idea of what kind of preventative measures will be most effective. Depending on how one cares or does not care
for their oral health impacts the treatment he or she will need. Generally, a dental hygienist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Screening measures include oral cancer screening and periodontal charting. Some dental hygienists also check blood pressure and pulse. If needed,
they will take x–rays before beginning the routine cleaning, which involves scaling and polishing the teeth. A patient that displays periodontal disease,
however, may need a deep cleaning, called scaling and root planning. Once the cleaning is complete, the dental hygienist will give instruction on how
the patient can correctly care for problems in their oral health. For instance, a dental hygienist may demonstrate the proper way to floss under a bridge
if it seems the patient has excessive buildup under the bridge. Dental hygienists spend a great deal of time promoting good oral health. When the
dentist is ready to examine the patient the dental hygienist informs the dentist of any notable points, such as a cavity on tooth

Dental Hygienist Career
As a college student, it is important to research different professions in order to determine what career path to ultimately follow. Certainly, there are
many types of jobs to take account of, and as a person with plenty of passions, finding a major has proved to be quite difficult. Nevertheless, the time
has come to decide a career pathway and currently I am pursuing to become a registered dental hygienist. This career path is far from my art passions,
but the search for a good occupation, and a feel–good job has brought me to the dental hygiene career path. In order to research this occupation even
further, I will interview a dental hygienist and find out if this is the right career path for me.
First and foremost, I would like to introduce Melissa Giorn, who is a registered dental hygienist, that works for Utah Partners for Health. I met Melissa
through my dental appointments, and she is my dental hygienist. What really struck me about her was that she is a young, Hispanic girl, who studied

hygiene program is the hardest, most stressful thing I've been through in my life." Not only did Melissa explain how hard the program is, but how
difficult it was doing it while still working a job at night. The dental hygiene program at SLCC, is designed to last two years and four semesters,
Monday through Friday, eight am to five pm. I can't imagine myself going through that, I asked Melissa, "were the classes difficult?" She replied, "in

SIDE EFFECTS:
The most common side effect associated with tooth bleaching is the sensitivity, which tends to resolve once the bleaching process is stopped.
Hypersensitivity: increased sensitivity to stimuli often occurs during early stages of the bleaching treatment. The use of desensitizing toothpaste may
alleviate discomfort. Agents like Potassium nitrate and sodium fluoride reduce tooth sensitivity following bleaching.
Irritation of mucous membranes: Tissue irritation as a result of an ill–fitted custom tray rather than the tooth–bleaching agent.
Over–bleaching: Too much bleaching will cause the teeth to appear very translucent.

Dental hygienists work hard everyday to inform society about their oral health. Dental hygiene is important when it comes to a healthy mouth.
Learning how to maintain good oral health is one of the key factors in successful oral care. Once the proper etiquette is learned, a person is on the
next level to a clean and healthy smile! Today, dental hygienists require high training in order to properly use the right and equipment and skills to
educate people about good dental hygiene.

After graduation, I plan on working for a modern pediatric dental practice close to home. I am seeking to work for a dental facility with an average
paying job possession for a registered dental hygienist. The benefits I am mostly interested in are 2 weeks of paid vacation leave, health insurance,
free dental services for my immediate family and I, and a 401(k) retirement savings plan. Also, I am seeking for a facility that is all electronic,
paperless, and that has advanced dental equipment preferably from 8am–4pm. The area I plan to work in is the Jonesboro, Georgia area so I can work
close to home. I am very fond of the Jonesboro, Georgia area not only because it is close to home, but because of the Hispanic population. Being
bilingual in a predominantly Spanish speaking area is an advantage for me when applying for a possession as a registered dental hygienist in this area. I

treatment. Fill in for the front desk if necessary by greeting patients and welcoming them in the office, scheduling next visit, re–scheduling visits as

is to remember personal details to initiate conversation with patients, as Dental Hygienist will always be seeing, and interacting with this patients.
It also shows and demonstrates the patient that you are interested about their life. Remembering personal details can also be beneficial because
when some patients come and sit at the dental chair their blood pressure may be high due to stress or anxiety and initiating a conversation with
them, will help them relax and bring down their blood pressure. This career does not obligate you to travel, but most Dental Hygienist jobs only

Prevention in an important factor in becoming a dental hygienist. Being able to observe the second years in a more advanced clinic, put the
importance of prevention in perspective for me. I had the privilege of watching my second year do her periodontal chart and learn a lot of new
things. I learned how to check a tooth for mobility, furcations, and recession. In clinic 1 we just simply probe to get pocket depth on our patients
because that is all that is necessary for the patients we are currently seeing, so it was awesome to watch my second year on how she got each of
her numbers, as well as, how she inserted them into the periodontal chart. While watching my second year, I got to assist in doing the periodontal

Reflection On Shadowing A Dental Hygienist
Office Visit Reflection Paper
As a part of the dental hygiene student program, shadowing a dental hygienist gave us a great preview of what we hope to do in a dental office. I had
the possibility to visit three dental offices, two general and one periodontics. Although I have an idea of how to work in a dental setting at Miami Dade
College Dental Hygiene Clinic, visited those offices was a great experience for me since I could observe how the dental hygienists operate and how
they function in the real world. During these visits, I had the opportunity to observe many things that I would like to do as a hygienist and some others
that I would not. In general, all these three offices have a friendly and helpful welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for all patients. Furthermore, they
were excellent in the way they answered all my questions thoroughly and thoughtfully. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This practices, periodontics, are experts in periodontal diseases (gum diseases) and conservative treatment. The hygienist that I shadowed was
graduated from Miami–Dade College 8 years ago. She continues to implement what she learned in the program. To illustrate, she applies outstanding
infection control and changed all the barriers after each and every patient. Once she was set up the operatory for the next patient, she explained to me
that time management is another manner to be productive in the dental office. She told me that being prepared is important for her, consequently, she
always wanted to check patient's background on Practice–Web Software before she brought every patient to the operatory. She treated each patient with
a smile and helping them feel comfortable. She performed a Full Mouth Post Probe on every patient after finalized each patient's

My choice in careers seems now: to go from managing a tooth–decaying candy store to dreaming of cleaning teeth, would be a large leap on my effect
of the tooth–health–spectrum. As a dental hygienist, it will be my job to clean people's teeth, examine them for any type of oral disease, and to
educate others on proper dental hygiene. To perform my job properly, it will be important to have high communication skills, a general knowledge of
anatomy and diseases, and to have a close attention to detail.
As a dental hygienist, you must, quite literally, get in people's face. To avoid being considered weird or creepy by your mouth–gaping customers, it is
important that you maintain proper interpersonal communication skills. Whether it is talking about the weather, asking about school or work, or
talking about each other's day, being able to communicate is key to having a good relationship with whoever's teeth you are cleaning. College has
helped me to prepare my interpersonal skills in several ways. Over the years I have met and learned from an array of people. Different communication

tement My passion for to study Dental Hygiene and Therapy has developed over the past few years, where I trained as a dental nurse and supported the
dental professionals, which piqued my interest in dentistry and the education around it. I am conscious of the importance of the hygienist's role in
maintaining patient's dental health and ensuring that that the oral conditions are attended too. The hygienists job is mainly to prevent disease though

The oral condition of a patient's mouth is not only important to their health, but also to the patient's self–esteem; however, for many treatments to be
carried forward, the condition of a patient's gums and mouth needs to be stable and controlled. My work as a dental nurse has introduced me to
another side of health and wellbeing for the oral cavity and from understanding the physiology of the mouth and how this can affect the whole body. I
never realised how common periodontal diseases were, until patients came in for dental treatment; the value of preventative care and education to
patients is one perseverance and trust. Dental nursing required many skills which included teamwork, communication, care and patience among many;
over the two years of training, I know my skills have been enhanced by the support and guidance of other dental professionals during my training. With
these skills, I know with further training and support, I can bring these forward to become an excellent hygienist and therapist who is supportive and

Dental hygienists play an important role in the dental care facilities since they apply their knowledge on every case by removing tartar, stains, and
plaque from teeth. They are in charge of applying sealants and fluorides to the teeth in order to protect them, they take and develop x–rays which helps
them determine the patient 's vocal health and then present all this information through a report for the dentists to see. Once they have documented the
patient 's care, they begin a treatment plan for each patient. They also educate their patients about the oral health and techniques they should apply and
how to brush and floss the teeth accurately. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016–17, p.2) Dental hygienists apply critical thinking, compassion
towards their patients, interpersonal skills, and dexterity while on their jobs and are supposed to be very detail oriented since they work on small
parts of the body and need precise use of the tolls. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2016–17, p.4).

The main roles of a dental hygienists are to clean teeth and teach people on ways to preform proper oral care. Lack of proper oral health care can
lead to more than just rotten teeth or gum disease, but can lead to systematic health issues. Both children and adults suffer from oral neglect. In fact
some 82 million adults do not have dental heath insurance, which means most of these individuals do not go to the dentist. Also, in 2005, all of the
children living at 200% of the federal poverty level did not go to any type of dental provider. Due to the fact that oral neglect is present, thirty–eight
percent of the 181,000 jobs are projected to grow by 2020, this will then open more opportunities for dental hygienists to educate individuals on proper

Because children are influenced by the family tradition and learn from their parents, it is important for parents to make sure that they are teaching
proper oral care habits at a young age. The habits that children should learn at a young age are; keeping up with home dental care, receiving the
dental care that people should, needing dental care but being enforced to go, brushing teeth as well as they should, being taught on how to control
snacking between meals as well as they should, and being taught that dental care is indeed important. "Poor oral health has an impact upon children's

Dental Hygienist: A Demanding but Fulfilling Career Ever since I was in middle school, I would tell everyone that I was going to become a dentist.

just as important as interpersonal skills in this career. It is important to have good finger dexterity and near vision. These physical skills will come to
good use because the job of dental hygienists require them to use instruments in the small area of a patient's mouth. It is also crucial that a dental

Becoming a dental hygienist involves the game stage substantially. In the game stage, we begin to understand that the people around us have
responsibilities of their own and demands placed upon them as well, the world does not revolve solely around the individual. In patient care, it is
important for us as the dental hygienist to be aware that our patients may feel as though they do not have time to brush or floss their teeth. Instead of
just placing judgement on them the dental hygienist needs to look at the situation from the patient's point of view and should empathize and work
with the patient to come to a solution. The game stage is likely why we also say keep your home life and your work life separate, this being, if you
