Strategic Sourcing Of A Supply Chain Management
Responsible Sourcing Before a supply chain manager can truly understand strategic sourcing, they must have a good working knowledge of the
purchasing and procurement processes, which I will explain in detail later in my research. Strategic sourcing is an aspect of supply chain management
that is becoming more prevalent in the business world. Without strategic sourcing a firm will not and cannot maximize the potential of its supply chain
and altogether meet the company's overall business goals. Responsible sourcing is a new way of thinking that is dedicated to building responsible
supply chain coalitions that value human rights and work standards across the world. As we have seen and heard in the news media in recent years,
many countries do not practice the same standards of work, facilities, and personnel management that we do here in the United States. American
consumers and they have raised concern due to the scenes of children in sweat shops, miners working in horrible conditions, and facilities that look as
if though they should be condemned and abandoned, housing hundreds of workers. This concern, hurts a company's bottom line and therefore they
have taken a proactive approach to ensuring that the product we receive and use daily are being produced in a manner that does not violate our values.

Crowd Sourcing
What is crowd sourcing? It is a free way of gaining knowledge from a large array of people. "Today, crowdsourcing is used in investing, in creative
work and in funding start up projects." (2014) Where some may have knowledge of the topic and others may not. Crowd sourcing has grown with the
help of the internet allowing more people to interact with the companies or government agencies. With the help of the internet people have begun to
invent apps that are used for crowd sourcing.
In the world of advertising crowd sourcing has been around for years with the power of the internet it has transformed into a business for the average
person. The internet has transformed crowd sourcing into a business for the individual as well as for the different advertising businesses or government
entity with the help of the internet. It gives an individual a chance to compete for the different contests or jobs that marketing and advertising firms
generally would have to develop campaigns for or a chance to comment on a topic that they may have knowledge to help solve a problem otherwise

The company BP tried crowd sourcing after a huge oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. (2010) It gave them the idea that average people could come up
with ideas to help them with resuming the flow of oil when the ideas coming from in house were inadequate, they had in the neighborhood of twenty
thousand recommendations. Which some people feel is not crowd sourcing but community affairs. I feel as though it is part of crowd sourcing and
community relations as well for the people to feel like they have made a contribution in solving the

– Because this purchase from AMS is 30% of total sleeve cost, the total spend for this commodity was approximately $1.7 million (510,000/0.3)
– Trojan's piece price cost from Juntao was 30% of its cost from AMS, which is approximately $15.30 per sleeve or $153,000 per year.
– After the ban rule, is Juntao import raw material will lead to a cost of $28 per sleeves, and $280,000 per year.
– The $77 cost from AMS is approximately at 50% premium. According to the 80/20 allocation plan, the annual cost would be $154,000(2000*77).
Purchases from Juntao would be $122,400 for 8,000 units, which is a total cost of $276,400 – a net reduction of 46% in costs.
– If Trojan buy 100% from AMS, its costs would be $770,000, a premium of $260,000.
– Based on annual revenues of $140 million and unit sales of 500 to 600, the average unit sold has a value of $233,000 to $280,000.
Alternative solutions
1. First, Juntao imports raw materials. The costs would increase by approximately $127,000(28–15.3=12.7, 12.7*10000).
Pros: It might be a long–term solution, because Trojan want to keep its LCS and global sourcing strategy.
Cons: It will not address the short–term supply shortage problem because import material is available in next month. This option is somehow risky,
because we don't know if Juntao has ability to secure appropriate

Every organization works for its ultimate goal of attaining profit and to enjoying a good name in the society. Organizational success depends upon how
the organization manages the information and process for attaining the target. For that the organization should have its own strategies and technologies
for adequate knowledge management. Due to the drastic changes which has happened in our organizational working climate, career management
intervention has to be given due importance for the performance of the workers. Human resource is considered as the most important asset of an

The process of obtaining information by enlisting the services of a large number of people, either paid or unpaid, typically through the Internet is
known as crowd sourcing. The term "crowdsourcing" was coined in Jeff Howe and Mark Robinson (2006) ,which describes how businesses were
using the Internet to outsource the work to a large and heterogenous undefined general public usuall in the form of an open call . The emergence and
popularity of the crowdsourcing phenomenon can be largely attributed to the rise of the Web 2.0 (FГјller, Bilgram, Koch & Rapp, 2013) Crowd
sourcing is based on the concept of collective intelligence: Selzer&Mahmoudi (2006 ) told that under the right circumstances, groups are remarkably
intelligent, and are often smarter than the smartest people in them. Crowd sourcing gives access to ideas, innovations and information(Aitamurto et al.,
2011; EstellГ©s–Arolas& GonzГЎlez–LadrГіn–de–Guevara, 2012; Sloane, 2011). So crowd sourcing is worthwhile for the success of any type of

Apple Sourcing Analysis
The Sourcing Plan Rafdahl (2014) believed that strategic sourcing is critical for a business to remain competitive. Apart from this, it is through
sourcing plan that a company is able to sustain its future growth potential. Relative to this assertion, it is vital for Apple Inc. to align its procurement
processes and supplier choices not only with the demands of its consumers but also the demands of business in general. Rafdahl (2014) provided 7
steps for a company to maximize its sourcing effort. Apple Inc. can consider this step by step process to meet future demands. 1.Initial Spend

Market Analysis. Rafdahl (2014) asserted that companies should have a list not only of incumbent suppliers, but also potential alternative ones. In line
with this assertion, it is significant for Apple Inc. to know suppliers which have good service reputations. Further, the company must also determine
what the suppliers can offer, such as its expertise to meet Apple's high standard and its ability to fulfill both the present and future needs. Apart from
these, the suppliers should consistently deliver quality products and services, and promote ideas and products that would advance Apple's
competitiveness, profitability, and success. 4.Strategy. Although Apple's strategy is already commendable, it is necessary for the company to develop
strategies to meet the changing conditions of business. Rafdahl (2014) believed that in doing so, it should consider the collaborative efforts it must
undertake together with its suppliers to increase efficiencies and reduce costs. Further, Apple must yearn to enhance its business' process so that its
products are also improved. Considerably, there is also a need for Apple to have inventory reduction and reengineer its products to improve the

Sourcing In America
International sell and purchase has provided tremendous growth for countries. There are advantages and disadvantages to sourcing overseas. Some of
the common advantages to out sourcing overseas are low manufacturing cost and expertise of products (importcrashcourse.com). The disadvantages
are language barriers, shipping time, as well as quality of products in some cases. Americans have found comfort in everyday life regarding products
that were made in other countries. If Americans were to suddenly not be able to purchase products overseas they may find themselves at a lost for
living a typical lifestyle.
On a large scale it is typical to think of cars when first thinking of products that were not made in America. However, American society has products
they use on a daily basis that are made overseas, such as the Apple iPhone. While the iPhone was designed in America, the manufacturing is
out–sourced to China, Korea, Taiwan and Mongolio (entrepreneur.com). There has been discussions regarding moving the manufacturing to theUnited
States (US). However, the cost is a great concern, and has been the delay in the discussion to move forward with this idea. Subsequently, like the iPhone
other products currently made in other countries will cause the same concerns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, there are many disadvantages to this idea. Considering the pricing to manufacturer products as well as wages for labor will be the
downfall for society. Often times the reason companies out–source labor and products are due to cheaper wages as well as parts. Having a company
that has multilingual workers that's educated and willing to work for a lower pay than Americans allows for a greater profitability for a company. The
workers as well as the rent for facilities are undeniably cheaper (smallbusiness.com). Therefore, the majority of products sold in the US are made in

recruitment programs targeting entry–level hires.
In 2015, ACA Talent partnered with one of the leaders in mobile display technologies to recruit field technicians, who were stationed at big box
locations and tasked with assisting customers for the company's clients, who are major electronics brands. This was the second project ACA Talent
partnered with this client on, and the partnership was driven by our past success with their company. This time, the client needed to fill 170 positions in
five weeks. Field technicians needed experience in structured cabling, car stereo installations, home theater, or home automation. They also needed to
be able to deliver a positive customer experience in addition to installing, repairing, and maintaining high–end electronics.
To meet the client's headcount and timeline objectives, ACA Talent developed a front

driving candidate volume. ACA Talent dedicated a team of three recruiters and an account manager. ACA Talent utilized its own extensive database of
talent, social media, postings, and outreach to build a strong talent pipeline. Candidates were interviewed to assess hard skill sets; behavioral–based

What Is Sourcing Talent
Sourcing talent is another important part of the overall recruitment process. It involves sourcing out the right candidate for the positon and includes
testing evaluations, personality and professional references, and work history. Most human resource recruiting agents will be sourcing talent to
make sure the right person is selected. During the process of sourcing talent identifying and locating high potential recruits, either internally or
externally will involve the analysis of these sourcing tools to identify those best able to meet the firms staffing goals. Perhaps the most important
component in sourcing talent is to create a source plan to profile desirable employees, and then devise a plan to reach them. Using surveys or focus
groups, ask where do they like to go, what media do they use, what organizations do they belong to, and what events do they attend? What web sites
and other sources would they use if they were to look for another job? How did they first learn of their first job in your firm? (Strategic Staffing Jean
M. Phillips and Stanley M. Gully). Secondly, recruiting based on assessment tests can also identify new hires developmental needs. Top candidate

How Should Reverse Auction Fit Into An Overall Procurement...
How Should Reverse Auction fit into an Overall Procurement Strategy?
It is quite challenging to discuss about procurement management without stating the importance of its strategies. There are four main basic
procurement strategies that serve different functions within a procurement management. To begin with, a "Partnership" strategy focuses mainly on
constructing mutual commitment in long term relationship with suppliers. While a "Secure Supply" strategy aims to secure short and long term supply
while reducing risk from suppliers. In addition, a "Category Management and E–Procurement solutions" serves as a tool to reduce logistic complexity,
improve operational efficiency, and attempts to reduce the number of suppliers. Lastly, a "Competive Bidding" strategy emphasizes on obtaining the
"Best Deal" for short term transactions with suppliers.(van weele) Each of these four strategies involves a unique purchasing methodology, which
implies that the complexity is embedded in an individual strategic implication. Therefore, it requires different tools to accomplish the specific
strategical characteristics. Abusiness entity may need to support and execute procurement decisions with other strategic apparatus with analytical
methods, including market analysis, uncertainty analysis, price forecasting, supplier relationship and along with others.(Harvard) Due to the fact that
procurement strategies are the focal point in the planning stage of all business firms and is a vital

Ethical Sourcing And The Supply Chain
Ethical Sourcing and the Supply Chain Growing competition and the ever increasing emphasis on cost reduction and efficiency has caused many firms
to outsource various components of their operations outside of the country. As firms are thrusted into the global marketplace and transformed into
multinational corporations (MNCs), new challenges arise related to the differences/disparity in corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices between
countries (Chandler & Werther Jr., 2014; Cruz, 2013).Globalization has increased companies need to consider the importance and strategic value of
CSR (Chandler & Werther Jr., 2014; Cruz, 2013).
At the forefront of international CSR issues, is the consumer demand for ethically managed supply chains. Cruz (2013) stated that "poor CSR
performance, at any stage of the supply chain process, may damage a company's most important asset–its reputation" (p. 3995). Based upon a case
study on the outsourcing of production activities by Apple Inc. to the controversial contract manufacturer Foxconn, this paper will discuss whether or
not firms have responsibility for the supply chains they choose to utilize. The paper will also highlight some of the advantages and disadvantages of
Apple's outsourcing decision, along with cost–benefit analysis of such decision.

workforce. Particularly, they noted that those individuals with "special skills" are not working in conventional ways anymore. Full time employment is
also not necessary as talent can be sourced and utilised part–time and it can be borrowed from another organisation such as hiring consultants from a
consulting firm. Thus, the authors reminded us that strategic sourcing is about choosing the right options and method of searching and acquiring the
specific talent needed by the organisation.
Employees today are also aware of their importance and the shortages of talent supply that is why focusing on sourcing talent or recruitment is at utmost
importance of the organisation. More importantly, as an organisation sourcing for talent, it is a must to ensure positive experience reflected on the

one of the most important considerations of applicants in accepting the job offer.
Another aspect to consider is the value proposition of the organisation to the applicants or in other words what are the skills, learning, knowledge and
experiences that the company can offer to the applicants which can be one of the factors for the applicant to accept the job offer. Lastly, the

Disadvantages Of Sourcing Securities
Definition of Sourcing Securities

Long–term investment.
If the development project is run in–house, it could come with a hefty price tag. The companies will create long–term investment in it. Having the
employees up–to–date with what's happening in their specific industry will also benefit their company in the long run. So in other words, they will end
up saving money and won't need to constantly outsource to specialists, the company will have them right in the organization.
The disadvantages of Insourcing Securities:
1.The cost of personnel requirements.
The company must takes responsibility for sick leave, annual leave, casual leave, pension fund contributions, medical aid or provident fund
contributions to their employees.
2.Absenteeism problem.
A company might face the problems of absenteeism among Security Officers because of sickness or vacations. As a result, more problems arise for the
management of the company while ensuring that the required number of personnel will be on hand consistently.
3.Controlling disciplinary problems
Controlling discipline can be very time consuming, can result in substantial costs in man–hours for record keeping and hearing, and can be a burden to

Sourcing Strategy at General Mills
Developing a sourcing strategy is vital with my new "buyer" position at General Mills. I need to consider what General Mills is looking for and what
best suits their company.
The first step I need to take in developing a sourcing strategy is to conduct an assessment of General Mills current spending. According to General
Mills' Annual Report, the payments due in 2014 are $3,844,200. This amount includes long term debt, accrued interest, operating leases, capital leases,
and purchase obligations. At this time, General Mills can expect to spend $2,730.70 on cocoa each month.
The second step will be assessing the supply market and discovering who offers what. General Mills is a member of the World Cocoa Foundation,
which helps create contact with cocoa farmers, origin governments, and environmental organizations. It is very important to consider environmentally
and labor friendly options when developing my sourcing strategy for cocoa beans. General Mills does not want to risk partnering with an unethical
cocoa farmer who violates labor laws using young children or putting the workers through harsh conditions.
Next I will need to conduct a total cost analysis to see how much it would be to purchase cocoa. The monthly cost of cocoa beans fluctuates monthly.
In January, 2010 cocoa beans were being sold at their highest– $3,525.12. Currently, cocoa beans are sold for $2,730.20. It may be wise to purchase a
larger amount of cocoa beans when the cost of them declines, to save

with the price of the goods, transportation, taxes and import duties, some goods can be acquired cheaper abroad, at lower cost countries. This is one

The Supply Chain And Alliances
Retail is a globalised industry, where products may be sourced and produced in one country, but sold in another. This requires collaboration of the
different roles involved in the supply chain and alliances to be formed, in order for each of the different roles to complete their business objectives.
The supply chain is the connections of movements, systems and businesses that work together to produce and sell a product. The suppliers and
retailers, in particular, must go hand in hand if either of them are to succeed. It is with the help of the buyers and merchandisers, that the suppliers
and retailers are able to connect and build up relationships. It is dominantly the buyer that works to bring the suppliers and retailers together. It is
part of a buyer's role to work closely and build up relationships with suppliers to ensure everything runs smoothly and quality standards are being met
on behalf of the retailer. There are a number of factors that a buyer must take into consideration when sourcing the right supplier for a retailer. The
suppliers must be able work efficiently and effectively to follow all instructions given to them by the buyer, this is to ensure that the correct standard

Stryker Corporation: in-Sourcing Pcbs
1. State the business case for option #3, the PCB In–sourcing proposal. What is the benefit? What is the risk? How do you compare this proposal to
option #1 and #2?
Benefit:
a. Better performance in management, quality and delivery. When PCB is in–souring facility, the management team of Stryker Corporation can
directly control the production process, which is more efficient and could obtain better quality in products. Secondly, when the production of PCB is
in–sourcing, it will be much easier for Stryker Corporation to make a delivery plan of PCB. This will considerably reduce the logistic losses.
b. More flexible in outputs. Under current sourcing, the flexibility of PCB's outputs depends on the frequency of order, resulting ... Show more content

Even that manufacturer is able to maintain a low supply; it will take long time for Stryker Corporation to strengthen it by increased business and
partnership. For the long run, everything is precarious.
c. Comparing these two options above, option 3 is much more reliable. Having an in–sourcing facility will bring more flexibility as we mentioned
before. With a developed in–sourcing proposal, there are a lot of detail estimations about the Option 3. It's easier for Stryker Corporation to implement
this plan step by step.
2. Use the projections provided in the case to compute the incremental cash flows for the PCB project. Provide a reasonable estimate for cash flows
after 2009 as well.
The explanations and details are presented in "640 case appendix". There are 4 explanations on how to predict the data after 2009 as below:
a. Decrease in purchases from contract manufacturersпјљ
Setting up the new project will gradually bring more free cash flow to the corporate. However, at the very beginning, the corporate must continue
buying products from the former suppliers. The company stopped purchasing PCB from out–sourcing in 2006. Therefore, it is reasonable to suppose
that Stryker will not buy PCBs from contract manufacturers anymore.

The actual production would begin in the third quarter of this year, therefore only half year's depreciation should be counted on Equipment and IT
communication in 2004 (According to Appendix A). The following years (2005–2008) incremental cash flows are computed by the same method.
However as the IT equipment and furnishings would be depreciated on a straight line basis over 3 years, thus in year four (2007), there would be
only half a year's deprecation left and after that it will be used up. The last year's net cash flow in 2009 should be included the extra terminal Value

Hyper Local Sourcing Essay
Hyper Local Sourcing Today people are trying to eat healthier and make better decisions. That can be hard sometimes when you go out to eat, thats
why restaurants are always trying to find better ways to appeal to their customers. One way they are doing that is hyper local sourcing. That is food
that is grown and processed in the community or on site. It is becoming increasingly popular; some places are even growing their own vegetables. It
doesn't get much fresher than that. This new trend can be good and bad for the restaurant. It may bring purchasing costs up, but it may also bring in
more customers. This is becoming more and more popular because people believe it is healthier, like going organic. They like the fact that it helps out

An Understanding Of Global Sourcing And Recruiting
Global sourcing refers to sourcing employees across the world. This process requires developing, implementing, planning, and evaluation staffing
strategies on a worldwide basis in order to make sure that organizations met their goals and objectives. Recruiting refers to an organization's
decisions and practices that affect the quantity or quality of candidates willing to apply or accept job offers. Nowadays, organizations use the term
"human capital" that makes executives realize that the way they compete to recruit talents can make or fail their businesses. Moreover, the capacity to

Sourcing Strategy For Ikea Company
5)Sourcing Global sourcing is an important sourcing strategy for IKEA Company. According to Hultman, Hertz and Johnsen (2012), in 2008,
IKEA has 54 different sourcing countries and 30 purchasing departments which were located all over the world. With the expansion of its market,
IKEA was not satisfied with selling its product only in domestic and Nordic market instead it put its higher goal in global market. Therefore the
sourcing market also expanded with the growing market. There were 64% of its products were sourced from European countries which were
mainly in eastern part like Czechoslovakia, Rumania and Hungary; China with a 22% share of the supply was the largest single supply market,
and Poland with a 16% share (IKEA 2007). However, IKEA also trades off the cost of raw materials and cost of transportation, hence IKEA combined
the Global sourcing with local sourcing strategy to lower the total cost. Example of sliding doors of PAX wardrobe Table 1.Global sourcing setup of
major component categories associated with the sliding doors for the PAX wardrobe system in 2009. IKEA's products like the PAX wardrobe, the
BILLY bookshelf, the LACK table and the SULTAN bed, sold in IKEA store are to a large scale sourced from a global network of suppliers. To take

Essay about Single Sourcing In The Public Sector
Develop an argument for or against single sourcing and close supplier relationships in public sector procurement. Argue for single sourcing, or argue
against single sourcing. State your claim, your reasoning, your evidence and any anticipated objections or rebuttals, and draw a conclusion.
Definition
Before anything else, I would like to clarify the difference between the single sourcing and sole sourcing. Single sourcing is refer to purchase from
one selected supplier, though there may have other suppliers provide the similar products or service, which is mean the purchaser has a choice to
switch suppliers, but for the strategic and some reasons like cost , purchaser decides to use only a specific supplier. Sole sourcing is refers to ... Show

Reporting corruption in broadcast and print media: the case of Albania
So I think this is a very dangerous position for anyone to be in, use single sourcing stragisty is not only created much problem in the world of public
procurement as it violates public trust in the system and go against transparency but also puts the purchaser at a disadvantage when negotiating a
contract and can result in increased costs to taxpayers, since they are so dependent upon the services/product of a single supplier.
Solutions
Therefore, in an ideal world, as public purchaser must be proactive in trying to avoid the single source; unfortunately, this is not always the case. The
following actions will help reduce single source purchases;
First, the top solution is not to enter into a single source procurement situation in the first place. It is very important for the public procurement there is
no charge of corruption can be levied at either party, government or organization should rigorously review theirpurchasing strategies to ensure that this
does not happen.
Second, always make sure there is an alternative source. As I mentioned before, this is much easier with single source procurement (but not sole
source), since other similar suppliers could be able to supply similar products with more or less that same quality as the previous suppliers.
Third, do not put the eggs all in one basket,

Wal–Mart had a contract with a third party procurement firm in Asia. The firm used suppliers that would mark–up merchandise and resell that
merchandise to Wal–Mart. The company has reduced costs, lead times, and eliminated the middleman mark–ups. In 2002, Wal–Mart began to buy
directly from the manufacturer to procure a better price. According to Stundza, (2006), " Wal–Mart has global procurement and supplier alignment
teams responsible for identifying new suppliers, sourcing new products, building partnerships with existing suppliers, and managing the global supply
chain of Wal–Mart's direct imports."
Figure 1: Wal–Mart's Procurement Process Conclusion Wal–Mart is the leader in its industry and continues to grow in popularity among the consumer.
The reason for its growth in popularity is its promise to deliver quality products at low prices. Wal–Mart can influence its suppliers in a way that
ensures a low price on the products it sells. Wal–Mart expects its suppliers to follow its lead in giving the customer what he or she expects and will
continue to grow in consumer popularity as a result.

IT Sourcing Essay
Business Transformation by way of IT Sourcing?
Overview
Do I think IT sourcing can be a transformative agent? Absolutely. Should IT sourcing be used as a transformative agent? Not only do I reply in the
affirmative, I'd go so far as to say that IT sourcing, where applies, is the key to successful business transformation.
We have got to ask ourselves this question first – why do companies outsource? The bigger they are, the more likely they are to be geographically
distributed. The more distributed they are, the more likely they are to outsource their IT requirements. The reasons are simple – local vendors, like
Cognizant Technology Solutions orTata Consultancy Services in India, are established players, incorporate industry wide best practices, operate on a
large scale (which is exactly what the client company seek to achieve), possess expertise in varied technology domains and have stellar reputations for
delivering quality IT services. More importantly, they offer cost reduction and efficient technologymanagement.
However there has been a subtle but steady shift in end user preferences that renders the traditional outsourcing models redundant. Clients can no longer
afford to be satisfied with just reducing their costs. To stay competitive in this increasingly dynamic environment, to retain their user base and market
share, companies are now looking to their sourcing vendor partners to innovate and provide technology enabled business transformation [1].

Should The Government Use Crowd Sourcing?
Crowd sourcing is being used in a wide variety of ways on the Internet, and it continues to evolve. Companies use crowd sourcing to develop new
ideas and designs. Police have been known to use crowd sourcing to solve crimes, such as after the Boston Marathon bombing. Even governments
have enlisted crowd sourcing to come up with ideas and to help determine what should be cut in their budgets. Now that governments have the
Internet to reach the public and gather ideas from them can it be done properly? By using mass collaboration, there is the opportunity to make wide
sweeping changes within the government. According to Natalie Evans, this could be important in deciding where cuts need to be made in public
spending (de Castella, 2010). It is great that the government wants to seek the public's opinion, but will they be willing to put those ideas into
action? Probably not if it does not fit into the political agenda. Then there is the overwhelming number of ideas from citizens on what laws should
be repealed. How can all of these ideas be filtered and who decides what is filtered out? In the end, crowd sourcing for the government is just not
workable. Perhaps crowd sourcing would best be used by solving crimes.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Close coordination between R&D, manufacturing, and marketing activities across national boundaries is a requirement for global sourcing strategy
(Kotabe & Helsen, 2004, Chap. 10). However there are always conflicts due to different objectives between R&D, manufacturing, and

except for perfectly flexible computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing facilities. CAD and CAM has improved tremendously in recent
years but the full benefit of flexible manufacturing still have a long way to go. However in the case of excessive product standardization in order to

important strategic issues. It is imperative for companies to develop a sound sourcing strategy in order to exploit efficient R&D, manufacturing,

Fortune 500 companies like IBM, Dell, and Delta Air Lines are spending higher than 50% of their revenues on procurement. For a long time,
procurement has been looked at as negotiating to get better prices. Many organizations still view procurement as a way to influence spending to get
discounts and lower costs from their suppliers. However, sustainability and the supply chain risks that companies face today call for procurement to be
different now. Organizations can see real savings by looking at total cost of ownership, which can include a lot of the end–to–end supply chain costs.
Disruptions are unavoidable and every decision involved in the procurement process has a risk factor to it. In order for procurement to influence and
affect a company it must present a business case that it is a value added function. An organization can add value long term with its ability of purchasing
within procurement. Organizations need to stop short–term thinking because of the high–risk levels associated with this. Procurement decisions can
add a lot of value to a company, but organizations need to think of the long–term implications of their decisions. Purchasing is important to competitive
advantage because it increases value and savings for a firm. Purchasing can build relationships, drive innovation, improve quality, and reduce products

Strategic Sourcing Of A Supply Chain Management

  • 1. Strategic Sourcing Of A Supply Chain Management Responsible Sourcing Before a supply chain manager can truly understand strategic sourcing, they must have a good working knowledge of the purchasing and procurement processes, which I will explain in detail later in my research. Strategic sourcing is an aspect of supply chain management that is becoming more prevalent in the business world. Without strategic sourcing a firm will not and cannot maximize the potential of its supply chain and altogether meet the company's overall business goals. Responsible sourcing is a new way of thinking that is dedicated to building responsible supply chain coalitions that value human rights and work standards across the world. As we have seen and heard in the news media in recent years, many countries do not practice the same standards of work, facilities, and personnel management that we do here in the United States. American consumers and they have raised concern due to the scenes of children in sweat shops, miners working in horrible conditions, and facilities that look as if though they should be condemned and abandoned, housing hundreds of workers. This concern, hurts a company's bottom line and therefore they have taken a proactive approach to ensuring that the product we receive and use daily are being produced in a manner that does not violate our values. Literary Review Dr. Sudhi Seshadri, is the author of Sourcing Strategy Principles, Policy and Designs. The main objective of this book and research is to give the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I need to consider what General Mills is looking for and what best suits their company. The first step I need to take in developing a sourcing strategy is to conduct an assessment of General Mills current spending. Should IT sourcing be used as a transformative agent? Not only do I reply in the affirmative, I'd go so far as to say that IT sourcing, where applies, is the key to successful business transformation. We have got to ask ourselves this question first – why do companies outsource? The bigger they are, the more likely they are to be geographically distributed. The more distributed they are, the more likely they are to outsource their IT requirements. The reasons are simple – local vendors, like Cognizant Technology Solutions orTata Consultancy Services in India, are established players, incorporate industry wide best practices, operate on a large scale (which is exactly what the client company seek to achieve), possess expertise in varied technology domains and have stellar reputations for delivering quality IT services. More importantly, they offer cost reduction and efficient technologymanagement. However there has been a subtle but steady shift in end user preferences that renders the traditional outsourcing models redundant. Clients can no longer afford to be satisfied with just reducing their costs. To stay competitive in this increasingly dynamic environment, to retain their user base and market share, companies are now looking to their sourcing vendor partners to innovate and provide technology enabled business transformation [1]. • 35. Should The Government Use Crowd Sourcing? Crowd sourcing is being used in a wide variety of ways on the Internet, and it continues to evolve. Companies use crowd sourcing to develop new ideas and designs. Police have been known to use crowd sourcing to solve crimes, such as after the Boston Marathon bombing. Even governments have enlisted crowd sourcing to come up with ideas and to help determine what should be cut in their budgets. Now that governments have the Internet to reach the public and gather ideas from them can it be done properly? By using mass collaboration, there is the opportunity to make wide sweeping changes within the government. According to Natalie Evans, this could be important in deciding where cuts need to be made in public spending (de Castella, 2010). It is great that the government wants to seek the public's opinion, but will they be willing to put those ideas into action? Probably not if it does not fit into the political agenda. Then there is the overwhelming number of ideas from citizens on what laws should be repealed. How can all of these ideas be filtered and who decides what is filtered out? In the end, crowd sourcing for the government is just not workable. Perhaps crowd sourcing would best be used by solving crimes.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The company markets its products under famous brands namely, the North Face, Wrangler, Timberland, Vans, Lee, and Nautica, among others. It sells its products to specialty stores, department stores, national chains and mass merchants, as well as through direct–to–consumer channel consisting of VF operated stores and internet sites. What are the characteristics of different sourcing arrangements? By 2004, VF utilized two basic types of sourcing arrangements with their suppliers. First, the "cut and make" contracts, wherein VF would have separate contracts for suppliers at individual stages in the production process. This arrangement was applied in legacy products based out of Mexico and the Caribbean and managed in conjunction with internal manufacturing. VF also uses a "package sourcing" model in production where a single supplier is responsible for the entire garment, from raw material procurement to packaging and shipping finished goods to the market. "Package sourcing" has the benefit of low cost, as companies can choose between various suppliers all over the globe based on economic factors, such as labor and transportation costs, and trade quota or tariff considerations to get the cheapest price for finished goods.
