2. Allegra Also known as Fexofenadine, Allegra is used to relieve seasonal allergy rhinitis (“hay fever”) which often includes symptoms of runny nose, sneezing, red and watery eyes, itching of the nose and throat and roof of the mouth. Allegra is an antihistamine working to block the effects of histamines which are a substance that causes allergies in the body. It does not cause drowsiness because it works without crossing the blood-brain barrier. Allegra should not be taken with fruit juices as these can cause a decrease in absorption into plasma levels.
3. Flonase Flonase, like Allegra, is used to relieve seasonal and year-round allergy symptoms like itchy nose, sneezing, watery and red eyes and runny nose. It belongs to a classification of drugs called corticosteroids and reduces the swelling of the nasal passage. The drug is administered by spraying in each nostril twice daily. It has been associated with hypersensitivity reactions such as swelling and rash on the face. Flonase will only control the symptoms listed above, it does not cure the condition. Grapefruit juice can inhibit the reception of Flonase by the body.
