American Indian Museum
On Sunday, November 20, 2016, I visited the National Museum of the American Indian. The
museum divided into South, East, and West Galleries. South Gallery represents historical exhibitions
from the past of Native American culture. East and West Galleries present varieties of elements from
the past and present life of Native Americans. The galleries include cultural objects, art gallery, and
photography collections representing Native Americans' stories. Frequently, collections contain
interpretations to better understand the important historical aspects of Native American life. The
museum items, which demonstrate white–Indians conflict, helped me to apply the theories and relate
them to the articles we have read in the class. The article "A ... Show more content on

The process of commodification is noticeable in many pieces of the contemporary collection.
Commodification is the process of transformation and replacement through which something could
be traded. Sculpture of Sleeping Man represents Native Americans as "timeless" and addresses the
commodification issues. This sleeping sculpture was created by Bob Haozous in 1975 who wanted
to reflect "contemporary Indians who have lost their connection with Indian ideas and
metaphorically drifted to sleep". Such a transformation into sleeping man made Native Americans
feel "like immigrants, on strange terrain, forced to adapt to the imperatives of an alien society"
(Steinberg 21). Expansion of American culture and forceful relocation of Native American tribes led
to their lifestyle changes. The painting "Culture Crossroads" by Chris Pappan, portrays an image of
a "seated man and his mirror image which reflects two ideas, cultures, or identities coming together
to create something new". As Pappan points out, "traditions have to evolve and change in order to
survive". Their commodified identities help Native people to fit into the new image created by
contemporary society. Moreover, Pappan's art breaks false ideas of Native Americans and promotes
cultural relativism. As he strongly states, the artists are "keepers of culture". Cultural

John Updike: One of the Most Talented Writers of the...
Thesis statement: John Updike's writing style and versatility made him one of the most
accomplished writers of the Postmodernism Movement. John Updike was born on March 18, 1932
in Reading, Pennsylvania (Academy of Achievement). Updike grew up with psoriasis and a
stuttering problem, which caused him to feel isolated and lonely during his childhood (The
Independent). He used drawing as an outlet, which sparked his interest in cartooning (TIME) and his
dream of being a cartoonist for the New Yorker (Encyclopedia for World Biography). Updike
excelled in high school, leading him to attend Harvard University, where he wrote and drew
cartoons for its humor magazine, Harvard Lampoon (Academy of Achievement). After graduating
from Harvard, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Couples was so popular that Updike was featured on the cover of Time magazine in 1969 (Academy
of Achievement). Updike was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters (Encyclopedia
for World Biography) and the youngest person ever elected to the National Institute of Arts and
Letters at age 32. He was awarded the National Medal of Art from President H.W. Bush in 1989 and
the National Medal for Humanities from President George W. Bush in 2003 (Academy of
Achievement). Updike wrote novels for six decades (The Independent), yet they were always a part
of the Postmodernism Movement, which started in the 1940s and is still occurring today.
Postmodernism pieces are characterized by an inconsistent timeline, tone changes, and meticulous
literary techniques. The piece is often about human life and based on the author's own experiences
(American Masters). Many critics like Quin Hillyer respect Updike as accomplished writer, but
believe that his writing style has its downsides. Hillyer believed, according to "Updike at Rest," that
most of Updike's characters were unlovable and immoral, which made reading some of the stories
unpleasant. However, Updike wrote in such a way that the readers related to and sympathized with
the characters, keeping them intrigued. Hillyer also thought that Updike was obsessed with sex, yet
was able to show his strong Christian views through his writing. Updike's ability to balance both and

Symbols and Journey Used in Ellison's Book "Invisible Man"...
In the book Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison and the play Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller the
two writers use various symbols to develop the American Literature Theme of The Journey. Two
important symbols Ellison uses in Invisible Man are dreams and the narrator's briefcase. Two
important symbols in Death of a Salesman are diamonds and the car. Ellison and Miller use these
symbols to take their characters through their life's journey, whether physical or metaphorical. The
portentous dream the narrator has in the beginning of Invisible Man foreshadows his whole journey
throughout the book. In the his dream at the end of the first chapter, he finds an envelope in his
briefcase that says, "To Whom It May Concern, Keep this Nigger–Boy ... Show more content on

The briefcase holds the contents of the narrator's past; it haunts him and he cannot relieve himself of
it until the very end. When he is burning the contents he becomes a phoenix rising from the ashes to
a new life, a new journey. Within the briefcase is his high school diploma, the piece of paper with
his new identity on it that was given to him by the Brotherhood, Clifton's doll, the anonymous letter
from Jack. All of these things were a part of his old identities, always with him in that briefcase. In
Death of a Salesman, the diamonds are Willy's past and future, what could have been and what
could be. Ben tells Willy in one final scene, "'The jungle is dark but full of diamonds, Willy.' 'One
must go in to fetch a diamond out.' 'It's dark there, but full of diamonds'" (Miller 1993). Willy had
the opportunity to go with Ben to find real diamonds, real happiness. He missed his first chance and
instead he must now die to find the happiness, the diamond in the rough. The car is the way for
Willy to reach true happiness, no worries; a means of 'transportation' eventually to Willy's death.
Willy's life never amounted to anything much in the end and he needed to escape. The car is his
ferry to the afterlife, to his happiness. The first

Military Medal
How to Determine If Your Military Medal is Real In order to avoid financial losses, military medal
collectors must know how to visually, historically and scientifically determine if potential collection
pieces are real. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_Medal Standard Testing A magnifying glass is
the basic piece of equipment to allow you to carefully examine the medal. Be sure to pay very close
attention to the details because official government manufactured medals are made with only the
highest quality materials. They should have a perfect smooth finish that covers firm metal. Some
collectors try to gentle bend the piece, because if it does, then it's a fake that is made of cheap
materials. The older the piece is, the more likely that it will be durable. This is because officers were
expected to wear their medals and badges into combat. To visually examine the ... Show more

They must also understand the casting process because almost all fakes are cheaply cast from a
single raw piece of metal. Bear in mind that government suppliers use complex equipment, so the
manufacturing process is expensive. There are three primary methods of military medal production.
Die stamping involves a thin sheet of metal being pressed with industrial die image that is powered
by electrical or hydraulic machines. The flat metal's reverse side will mirror the front, so the details
are consistent. Die forging is similar, but uses a thicker piece of metal that is heated in a furnace to
the point of pliability and stamped with a heavy tool die. This process was geared towards heavier
badges with 3D designs. The reverse image is unique and will typically appear flaw or slightly
hollow. Die casting is when molten metal is inserted into a closed die. After cooling, it is removed
and finished by hand. Die cast medals usually contain a hook or hinge that connects to a

Comparing Death of a Salesman and The American Dream Essay
Comparing Death of a Salesman and The American Dream
In Arthur Miller's Death of A Salesman and Edward Albee's The American Dream, Willy Lowman
and Mommy possess the trait of superficiality. Their priorities are to look good and be liked, and this
contributes to their misguided paths to reach success. This attribute is one of many societal
criticisms pointed out by both authors. Arthur Miller criticizes society for perceiving success as
being liked and having good looks. He illustrates society's perception through Willy, who thinks the
keys to success are being popular and attractive. Willy transmits this philosophy to his sons by
ignoring their education and personal growth and setting an example that popularity is most ... Show

Willy continues to teach his sons his misguided values by telling them education is almost useless
and a good body is a fine substitute.
"Bernard can get the best marks in school, y'understand , but when he gets out in the business world,
y'understand, you are going to be five times ahead of him. That's why I thank the Almighty God
you're both built like Adonises. Because the man that makes the appearance in the business world,
the man who creates personal interest, is the man who gets ahead. Be liked and you'll never want."
(pg. 33)
Willy is now misleading his sons into thinking good looks will keep them alive in the corporate
world and education won't, yet Willy is a man with respectable looks and he isn't surviving in the
same world. Fifteen years later, Willy continues to preach the same theory, even after he has seen
both his sons fail in the world, having been guided by his words. Prior to Biff's proposal to Bill
Oliver for ten thousand dollars , Willy is still stuffing his sons' heads with the same misleading
advise.
"It's not what you say, it's how you say it–because personality always wins the day." (pg. 65)
Willy's final words of advise to Biff are no different than his first and no more educational. Biff, like
Willy, does not learn from his mistakes and steals a fountain pen from Bill Oliver, leaving him
unable to face Oliver again to ask for money. Willy's advice on the

Theme Of Identity In A View From The Bridge
"You're a blank, a cipher... a zero." (Albee, 1962, p.18). With these words, Martha the main
character in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" showed her husband, George, that he was nothing.
Edward Albee, the writer of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" talked mainly about Martha and
George who pretend to have different identities just in order not to face reality. Moreover, Arthur
Miller, the author of "A View from the Bridge" presented the idea of identity in a different way.
Miller used the character Eddie to show how people's identities are constantly changing due to some
changes in their lives. Modern playwrights question the idea of a definite identity.

Eddie is introduced as a moral man with ethics and principles. Miller showed that at the beginning
of the play, Eddie tells the story of a young boy who ratted on immigrant relatives staying in his
home and warn Catherine that she must be absolutely silent about Marco and Rodolpho. Moreover,
there was a discussion between Eddie and Beatrice; where Beatrice is afraid of her immigrant
cousins being caught. Therefore, Eddie told her: "listen if everybody keeps his mouth shut, nothing
can happen. They'll pay for their board."(Miller, 1955, p.9).Later in the story, Eddie revealed a
different identity .He was blinded with passion to the point of immorality. When he knew about
Catherine falling in love with Rodolpho, he told Alfieri that he is going to call the immigration so he
can keep Catherine just for him. Even though he knew that he is going to suffer for calling
immigration, but does so anyway .Eddie: "Give me the number if the Immigration Bureau."(Miller,
1955, p.61).To sum up, Miller displayed identity that could be moral with ethics and turns to be and

Ida promoted education to her children, especially her daughters. Although, Ida spent a lot of time

The Social Contextualisation Of Robert Rauschenberg's...
1953, a 27–year–old Robert Rauschenberg found himself outside the house of Willem de Kooning
with a bottle of Jack Daniels in hand, knocking on the door he held a lingering hope that his
wrapping on the wood would not be answered.
This essay will discuss the social contextualisation of Robert Rauschenberg's Erased de Kooning
Drawing (1953).
We are shown an almost blank piece of paper, subsequently framed in a simple gilded frame with a
caption reading "Erased de Kooning Drawing, Robert Rauschenberg, 1953".
Fellow artist Jasper Johns, at the request of Rauschenberg wrote the caption for the piece.
The work is considered to be a Neo–Dadaist conceptual art work, attaining affinities to Added Art,
albeit having material removed from the original work rather than added to it.
Through the conception of this work, Rauschenberg first attempted to create this piece by erasing
his own drawings. He ultimately decided that for the investigation to succeed, it was imperative that
he begin with an artwork that was unquestionably significant in its own standing.
He approached Willem de Kooning (1904–1997), a formidable artist of the time for whom the art
world and he himself held in tremendous regard, and asked him for a drawing to erase. With
reluctance, de Kooning agreed.
"I remember that the idea of destruction kept coming into the conversation, and I kept trying to
show that it wouldn't be destruction," said Rauschenberg
After Rauschenberg had completed the arduous erasure of de

Jacob Lawrence: The Harlem Renaissance
Imagine a life without art. Jacob Lawrence allowed his horrific experiences in Harlem, and life's
misfortunes to enable him to become one the most recognized African American artists ever.
"During his early childhood, Jacob was surrounded by art and attended an art school which
influenced his passion" (James Lawrence Biography). Furthermore, his experience with segregation

Jacob Lawrence undoubtedly made tremendous strides and helped to carve a new path for African
American art. His lifelong passion for art led him to lead the way for new African American artists

for the rest of his life's work. In addition, Jacob's poor upbringing sparked the inspiration for his
best–known series, "Migration of the Negro or simply The Migration Series, in 1941"

Literary Analysis Of Maya Angelou's Phenomenal Woman
The poem Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou, was voiced by Maya Angelou herself, and the
audience hearing that she was trying to reach was the "pretty women" in the world who have a
definition of flawless that Maya does not agree with. She wanted her audience to know that while
they may be beautiful, that she is beautiful and flawless by her own terms and that being flawless
does not only mean being small and looking like the models in the magazines. One could argue that
her audience is all the women in the world who are not small. She is also reaching out to women
who have some of the same characteristics that she has because they are relatable. Men are also her
audience as she goes on to explain why men find her attractive, this is also a device used to show the
audience that many different cases of women can be viewed as attractive. A woman who loves
herself is a woman who will attract a man of good substance. Maya Angelou was born on April 4,
1928, in St. Louis, MO, and died at the age of 86 on May 28, 2014, in Winston–Salem, NC. During
her time here–on this earth, she served as a famous American poet, civil rights activist and
memoirist. She published seven autobiographies, three books of essays, several books of poetry, and
was credited with a list of plays, movies, and television shows spanning over 50 years. Maya

by his death which happened to be on her birthday, and soon after began writing her most famous
work, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. This work, an autobiography of her life, became very
popular shortly after it was published and received widespread attention (Maya). During this time,
Angelou began to grow in popularity and was well respected for her work with civil rights, poetry,

Josephine Bourgeois Analysis
Maria Montoya Martinez and Louise Joséphine Bourgeois were women unique to their times. Maria
was born in New Mexico between the years 1881 and 1887. Throughout her childhood, she was
drawn to pottery, which became her job and life. She "raised" pottery to an art form in her town, or
pueblo. She used her artistry to revive the cultural pride of her native people, to teach her skills to
others, and to create resources used to support her Pueblo (Tewa) community in the future. Louise
Joséphine Bourgeois was a French–American artist who was well known for her large–scale
sculpture and installation art; however she also was a prolific painter and printmaker. Through the
course of her career, she had a variety of themes which included "domesticity and the family,
sexuality, the body, and death and the subconscious." When comparing and contrasting Maria

Some curators felt that their museums were used to enhance the value of the art prior to the sale.
Some art critics thought that Wyeth and his wife had fabricated the entire story of the secret
accumulation of paintings. Others simply admired the art. After the paintings' sale to the anonymous
Japanese industrialist in 1990, the paintings were frequently exhibited at museums in the U.S. and
Japan. The paintings were resold in early December, 2005 to an American buyer, who may break the
collection up for individual sale. Wyeth's art has long been controversial. As a representational artist,
Wyeth's paintings have sharply contrasted with the prevailing trend of abstraction that gained
currency in American art in the middle of the 20th century. Museum exhibitionists of Wyeth's work
have set attendance records, but many art critics have derided his paintings. The most common
criticisms are that Wyeth's art verges on illustration, and that his predominantly rural subject matter
is heavily weighted with sentiment. Admirers of Wyeth's art believe that his paintings, in addition to
sometimes displaying overt beauty, contain strong emotional currents, symbolic content and
underlying abstraction. Most observers of Wyeth's art agree that he is exceptionally skilled at
handling the mediums of watercolor and egg tempera. Except for early

Hitler 's Influence On The World War II
Some of the greatest totalitarian leaders before Hitler's time looted art such as Napoleon the past

of the work was lost during the war. It is estimated that over 650,000 pieces, one fifth of Europe's

The Role Of Ignorance In Literature
Authors all write in different ways. They all have different minds and ideas. Even though authors
think differently, they still are alike in a weird way. They also don't think alike and they all have
their different ways of writing their thoughts. While reading all 4 different essays, I've learned a lot
about trying to understand how other people think. All four essays have something in common, and I
believe that "ignorance" is one of the biggest common factors in all of the stories. They may all have
a different way in showing ignorance because every essay has a different story line. It was easiest to
spot out ignorance in Maya Angelou's essay "Graduation," rather than in Welty's essay "Listening." I

Edward, was a very ignorant man who thought that whites were the only people who could live up
to success, where she knew the facts and would prove to herself that she was an african american
woman who would be successful in her life.
That man, Edward, reminds me more of Berube's "Paying for Freedom" essay. "Paying for
Freedom" goes into say that we don't just get freedom, we have to work for it. Hard. We can't sit
around and wait for everything we want to just fall right into our laps. Nobody in life can be
ignorant and uneducated in the things they are trying to educate someone else about. They also need
to understand how to respect other opinions with certain things like that.
Ignorance is something that people don't always understand in today's time. There is something
about ignorance that people don't always understand. Maybe they don't understand what ignorance
is, but they seem to think that's actually the answer for some things. Ignorance plays a big part in
"The Intellectual Free Lunch," by Kinsley. Kinsley goes on to teach us about how we need to know
the facts before we pass it on to others. We aren't allowed to come up with an answer to something
because we think it should be that way, we need to know the knowledge behind everything that we
try to pass onto others. We shouldn't be ignorant because we want an answer to something to be a
certain way, because if we all just came up with our own answers, we wouldn't know the truth about
a lot of things in

Australia has come a long way to where they are today since their journey began back in 1788, from
penal colony all the way to its own island continent. As time went on slowly, there began to be six
different settlements. All starting off with: Van Diemen's Land, Western Australia, South Australia,
Victoria, Queensland, and Northern Territory. With many changes, some have become states while
others have stayed territories. Even though this land was thought to be found by the Europeans, it
wasn't. Australia was first found by the Aborigines. They were thought to have come to Australia

National American Indian Museum Captures Cultures

  • 1. American Indian Museum On Sunday, November 20, 2016, I visited the National Museum of the American Indian. The museum divided into South, East, and West Galleries. South Gallery represents historical exhibitions from the past of Native American culture. East and West Galleries present varieties of elements from the past and present life of Native Americans. The galleries include cultural objects, art gallery, and photography collections representing Native Americans' stories. Frequently, collections contain interpretations to better understand the important historical aspects of Native American life. The museum items, which demonstrate white–Indians conflict, helped me to apply the theories and relate them to the articles we have read in the class. The article "A ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The process of commodification is noticeable in many pieces of the contemporary collection. Commodification is the process of transformation and replacement through which something could be traded. Sculpture of Sleeping Man represents Native Americans as "timeless" and addresses the commodification issues. This sleeping sculpture was created by Bob Haozous in 1975 who wanted to reflect "contemporary Indians who have lost their connection with Indian ideas and metaphorically drifted to sleep". Such a transformation into sleeping man made Native Americans feel "like immigrants, on strange terrain, forced to adapt to the imperatives of an alien society" (Steinberg 21). Expansion of American culture and forceful relocation of Native American tribes led to their lifestyle changes. The painting "Culture Crossroads" by Chris Pappan, portrays an image of a "seated man and his mirror image which reflects two ideas, cultures, or identities coming together to create something new". As Pappan points out, "traditions have to evolve and change in order to survive". Their commodified identities help Native people to fit into the new image created by contemporary society. Moreover, Pappan's art breaks false ideas of Native Americans and promotes cultural relativism. As he strongly states, the artists are "keepers of culture". Cultural ... • 3. John Updike: One of the Most Talented Writers of the... Thesis statement: John Updike's writing style and versatility made him one of the most accomplished writers of the Postmodernism Movement. John Updike was born on March 18, 1932 in Reading, Pennsylvania (Academy of Achievement). Updike grew up with psoriasis and a stuttering problem, which caused him to feel isolated and lonely during his childhood (The Independent). He used drawing as an outlet, which sparked his interest in cartooning (TIME) and his dream of being a cartoonist for the New Yorker (Encyclopedia for World Biography). Updike excelled in high school, leading him to attend Harvard University, where he wrote and drew cartoons for its humor magazine, Harvard Lampoon (Academy of Achievement). After graduating from Harvard, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Couples was so popular that Updike was featured on the cover of Time magazine in 1969 (Academy of Achievement). Updike was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters (Encyclopedia for World Biography) and the youngest person ever elected to the National Institute of Arts and Letters at age 32. He was awarded the National Medal of Art from President H.W. Bush in 1989 and the National Medal for Humanities from President George W. Bush in 2003 (Academy of Achievement). Updike wrote novels for six decades (The Independent), yet they were always a part of the Postmodernism Movement, which started in the 1940s and is still occurring today. Postmodernism pieces are characterized by an inconsistent timeline, tone changes, and meticulous literary techniques. The piece is often about human life and based on the author's own experiences (American Masters). Many critics like Quin Hillyer respect Updike as accomplished writer, but believe that his writing style has its downsides. Hillyer believed, according to "Updike at Rest," that most of Updike's characters were unlovable and immoral, which made reading some of the stories unpleasant. However, Updike wrote in such a way that the readers related to and sympathized with the characters, keeping them intrigued. Hillyer also thought that Updike was obsessed with sex, yet was able to show his strong Christian views through his writing. Updike's ability to balance both and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Symbols and Journey Used in Ellison's Book "Invisible Man"... In the book Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison and the play Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller the two writers use various symbols to develop the American Literature Theme of The Journey. Two important symbols Ellison uses in Invisible Man are dreams and the narrator's briefcase. Two important symbols in Death of a Salesman are diamonds and the car. Ellison and Miller use these symbols to take their characters through their life's journey, whether physical or metaphorical. The portentous dream the narrator has in the beginning of Invisible Man foreshadows his whole journey throughout the book. In the his dream at the end of the first chapter, he finds an envelope in his briefcase that says, "To Whom It May Concern, Keep this Nigger–Boy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The briefcase holds the contents of the narrator's past; it haunts him and he cannot relieve himself of it until the very end. When he is burning the contents he becomes a phoenix rising from the ashes to a new life, a new journey. Within the briefcase is his high school diploma, the piece of paper with his new identity on it that was given to him by the Brotherhood, Clifton's doll, the anonymous letter from Jack. All of these things were a part of his old identities, always with him in that briefcase. In Death of a Salesman, the diamonds are Willy's past and future, what could have been and what could be. Ben tells Willy in one final scene, "'The jungle is dark but full of diamonds, Willy.' 'One must go in to fetch a diamond out.' 'It's dark there, but full of diamonds'" (Miller 1993). Willy had the opportunity to go with Ben to find real diamonds, real happiness. He missed his first chance and instead he must now die to find the happiness, the diamond in the rough. The car is the way for Willy to reach true happiness, no worries; a means of 'transportation' eventually to Willy's death. Willy's life never amounted to anything much in the end and he needed to escape. The car is his ferry to the afterlife, to his happiness. The first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Military Medal How to Determine If Your Military Medal is Real In order to avoid financial losses, military medal collectors must know how to visually, historically and scientifically determine if potential collection pieces are real. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_Medal Standard Testing A magnifying glass is the basic piece of equipment to allow you to carefully examine the medal. Be sure to pay very close attention to the details because official government manufactured medals are made with only the highest quality materials. They should have a perfect smooth finish that covers firm metal. Some collectors try to gentle bend the piece, because if it does, then it's a fake that is made of cheap materials. Bear in mind that government suppliers use complex equipment, so the manufacturing process is expensive. There are three primary methods of military medal production. Die stamping involves a thin sheet of metal being pressed with industrial die image that is powered by electrical or hydraulic machines. The flat metal's reverse side will mirror the front, so the details are consistent. Die forging is similar, but uses a thicker piece of metal that is heated in a furnace to the point of pliability and stamped with a heavy tool die. This process was geared towards heavier badges with 3D designs. The reverse image is unique and will typically appear flaw or slightly hollow. Die casting is when molten metal is inserted into a closed die. After cooling, it is removed and finished by hand. Die cast medals usually contain a hook or hinge that connects to a ... • 6. Comparing Death of a Salesman and The American Dream Essay Comparing Death of a Salesman and The American Dream In Arthur Miller's Death of A Salesman and Edward Albee's The American Dream, Willy Lowman and Mommy possess the trait of superficiality. Their priorities are to look good and be liked, and this contributes to their misguided paths to reach success. This attribute is one of many societal criticisms pointed out by both authors. Arthur Miller criticizes society for perceiving success as being liked and having good looks. He illustrates society's perception through Willy, who thinks the keys to success are being popular and attractive. Willy transmits this philosophy to his sons by ignoring their education and personal growth and setting an example that popularity is most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Willy continues to teach his sons his misguided values by telling them education is almost useless and a good body is a fine substitute. "Bernard can get the best marks in school, y'understand , but when he gets out in the business world, y'understand, you are going to be five times ahead of him. That's why I thank the Almighty God you're both built like Adonises. Because the man that makes the appearance in the business world, the man who creates personal interest, is the man who gets ahead. Be liked and you'll never want." (pg. 33) Willy is now misleading his sons into thinking good looks will keep them alive in the corporate world and education won't, yet Willy is a man with respectable looks and he isn't surviving in the same world. Fifteen years later, Willy continues to preach the same theory, even after he has seen both his sons fail in the world, having been guided by his words. Prior to Biff's proposal to Bill Oliver for ten thousand dollars , Willy is still stuffing his sons' heads with the same misleading advise. "It's not what you say, it's how you say it–because personality always wins the day." (pg. 65) Willy's final words of advise to Biff are no different than his first and no more educational. Biff, like Willy, does not learn from his mistakes and steals a fountain pen from Bill Oliver, leaving him unable to face Oliver again to ask for money. Willy's advice on the ... With these words, Martha the main character in "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" showed her husband, George, that he was nothing. Edward Albee, the writer of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" talked mainly about Martha and George who pretend to have different identities just in order not to face reality. Moreover, Arthur Miller, the author of "A View from the Bridge" presented the idea of identity in a different way. Miller used the character Eddie to show how people's identities are constantly changing due to some changes in their lives. Modern playwrights question the idea of a definite identity. Edward Albee questions the idea of a definite identity through his character, Martha. At the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eddie is introduced as a moral man with ethics and principles. Miller showed that at the beginning of the play, Eddie tells the story of a young boy who ratted on immigrant relatives staying in his home and warn Catherine that she must be absolutely silent about Marco and Rodolpho. Moreover, there was a discussion between Eddie and Beatrice; where Beatrice is afraid of her immigrant cousins being caught. Therefore, Eddie told her: "listen if everybody keeps his mouth shut, nothing can happen. They'll pay for their board."(Miller, 1955, p.9).Later in the story, Eddie revealed a different identity .He was blinded with passion to the point of immorality. When he knew about Catherine falling in love with Rodolpho, he told Alfieri that he is going to call the immigration so he can keep Catherine just for him. Even though he knew that he is going to suffer for calling immigration, but does so anyway .Eddie: "Give me the number if the Immigration Bureau."(Miller, 1955, p.61).To sum up, Miller displayed identity that could be moral with ethics and turns to be and identity that is blinded with ... With reluctance, de Kooning agreed. "I remember that the idea of destruction kept coming into the conversation, and I kept trying to show that it wouldn't be destruction," said Rauschenberg After Rauschenberg had completed the arduous erasure of de ... When she went on the journey to bring back theses black on black pots her primary motivation was to not lose this tradition of theirs that has been an important part of the town's identity. However, even though she finally got the pots right, she did not want keep it all to her family and herself. Some curators felt that their museums were used to enhance the value of the art prior to the sale. Some art critics thought that Wyeth and his wife had fabricated the entire story of the secret accumulation of paintings. Others simply admired the art. After the paintings' sale to the anonymous Japanese industrialist in 1990, the paintings were frequently exhibited at museums in the U.S. and Japan. The paintings were resold in early December, 2005 to an American buyer, who may break the collection up for individual sale. Wyeth's art has long been controversial. As a representational artist, Wyeth's paintings have sharply contrasted with the prevailing trend of abstraction that gained currency in American art in the middle of the 20th century. Museum exhibitionists of Wyeth's work have set attendance records, but many art critics have derided his paintings. The most common criticisms are that Wyeth's art verges on illustration, and that his predominantly rural subject matter is heavily weighted with sentiment. Admirers of Wyeth's art believe that his paintings, in addition to sometimes displaying overt beauty, contain strong emotional currents, symbolic content and underlying abstraction. Most observers of Wyeth's art agree that he is exceptionally skilled at handling the mediums of watercolor and egg tempera. Except for early ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They also don't think alike and they all have their different ways of writing their thoughts. While reading all 4 different essays, I've learned a lot about trying to understand how other people think. All four essays have something in common, and I believe that "ignorance" is one of the biggest common factors in all of the stories. They may all have a different way in showing ignorance because every essay has a different story line. They also need to understand how to respect other opinions with certain things like that. Ignorance is something that people don't always understand in today's time. There is something about ignorance that people don't always understand. Maybe they don't understand what ignorance is, but they seem to think that's actually the answer for some things. Ignorance plays a big part in "The Intellectual Free Lunch," by Kinsley. Kinsley goes on to teach us about how we need to know the facts before we pass it on to others. We aren't allowed to come up with an answer to something because we think it should be that way, we need to know the knowledge behind everything that we try to pass onto others. We shouldn't be ignorant because we want an answer to something to be a certain way, because if we all just came up with our own answers, we wouldn't know the truth about a lot of things in ...
