Thank You Note
We have been blessed with many special gifts and talents. Perhaps it is the ability to sing or
play a musical instrument. Perhaps it is athletic ability or the ability to be compassionate and
kind. Think of the special gifts or talents that you possess. On the back of this paper make
use the questions to help you brainstorm the things you do well and a reason you are
grateful for that gift.
Your assignment this week is to write a thank you note of at least one paragraph to
someone for giving you, encouraging you, or teaching you a particular talent. Express your
appreciation and tell why you particularly enjoy this talent or gift. Try hard to have your
sentences begin with capital letters and end with the correct punctuation marks. Have a
parent edit your work after you answer the questions, then type on the computer, or rewrite
the paragraph in your neatest handwriting.
REMEMBER:
1. Sentences should start with a capital and end with a period, question mark, or
exclamation point.
2. A sentence should be a complete thought or idea. Your paragraph should have at
least 5 sentences.
3. Strong sentences have vivid details.
4. Your paragraph should stay on topic and have a topic sentence, detail sentences,
and a concluding sentence. Don’t forget to indent!
5. All words should be spelled correctly. Have an adult proofread your paragraph
before turning it in.
Here’s an example of my paragraph:
Dear Mom,
Thank you so much for teaching me how to cook a turkey. The first time I tried to cook a turkey on
my own the outside was burnt and the inside wasn’t even cooked yet! You helped me learn how to check the
temperature of the turkey as it cooks and use aluminum foil to brown the skin without letting it burn. On top
of helping me cook an amazing turkey, you also taught me how to cook your delicious cranberry sauce. The
two of those things definitely make a great Thanksgiving dinner! Thank you for your help and I can’t wait to
serve you a Thanksgiving feast I’ve made just for you!
Love,
Mrs. Shelton
