Endangered Animals Homework Contract:
Week of April 11th – April 22nd
We have been working hard this year on our ability to write with the
purpose of informing others. This project will take the place of your weekly
writing and each part will need to be completed by the said date so that you can
take part in the activities the next day. You will be able to choose any
endangered animal to do your report on and will need to collect information at
home to bring back to school. You may want to collect your information in a
folder or envelope so that it is all together and is less likely to get lost going back
and forth to school. Have fun and happy researching!
Monday, 4/11: Choose your animal and bring in a picture of it. Your animal
must be on the endangered species list and you should make sure information is
easy to find before deciding on it. The library is always great place to go, or you
can check out a couple of spots on the internet like www.fws.gov/endangered and
www.earthsendangered.com.
Tuesday, 4/12: Research your animal’s name (common and scientific) and
description. Make sure you can describe its color, weight, height or size, and how
these things help them adapt to the places they live. Bring your information in so
that we can use it to write our research paper in class!
Wednesday, 4/13: Research the life cycle of your animal. How does the animal
go from a baby to an adult? Bring in pictures of different stages of the animal’s
life cycle if possible. Remember, you will do the writing in class, you just need to
bring the information with you!
Thursday,
Thursday, 4/14: Draw a picture of animal’s life cycle on the paper Mrs. Shelton
has given you. Make sure the stages are labeled and your pictures are colored.
2. Monday, 4/18: Research the habitat of your animal and bring in a map showing
where it usually lives. Make sure you are able to describe land, the weather, and
other factors of the animal’s environment.
Tuesday, 4/19: Research any unusual or interesting facts about your animal,
including what is causing their population to die out. Bring in any other pictures,
maps, or details you would like to include in your report.
Wednesday, 4/20: Write a short presentation about your endangered animal
that includes the information you have researched over the past week and a half.
Your presentation should not be longer than 2 minutes. You may write or type or
presentation.
Thursday, 4/21: Practice your presentation at home.
Presentations will be given the week of April 25th and reports will need to be
turned in completed by Tuesday, April 26th.
