2. I have taught in the Calhoun County School
System for 6 years. I have been married to
Kevin for 16 years and we have a 15 year
old—Kaylee, an 8 year old—Trace, and 3
year old twins—Brody & Brenley. I stay
extremely busy—mom, teacher, cheer coach,
and technology mentor are a few of my jobs.
In 2012, Weaver Elementary School was
chosen to be a site school for the new BYOD
initiative. As a site school, we were provided
on site BYOD tutorials and hands-on sessions
where we practiced technology integration with our students using their own devices.
Dr. Alice Christie was the presenter and trainer for my grade level. She is the creator of Google
Treks™.

6. Google Treks™ In the Classroom
Teacher-Created
Teacher created Google Treks™ are similar to
WebQuests. They can be used in the classroom to
direct the students to websites that you want them
to visit by clicking links. The advantage to using
Google is that it enables Web 2.0 tools, is free, and
allows teachers and students to synthesize information in one easy-to-use map
that places text, pictures, audio files, video files, and much more in one central
location.

7. Google Treks™ In the Classroom
Student-Created
Google Treks™ allow students to
demonstrate creative thinking,
construct knowledge, and develop
innovative products and processes.
Students use digital media and
environments to communicate and
work collaboratively, including at a
distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.

8. Creating Google Treks™
You will need a Google account in order to
log-on to Google Maps. Accounts are free
and when having students create a map, a
class Google account can be used.
It is very easy to teach students to create
their Treks. The following slide has links to tutorials that explain exactly how to
create a Google Trek™ and can easily be used by students as a tutorial.
