CONSUMER AS PERSON P Personality: People have personality traits such as: cheerful, stoic, optimistic, friendly, eager, suspicious, frugal, open-minded, rigid, patient, thoughtful, impulsive, judgmental, accepting, tenacious, etc. E Ethnicity/Culture: Many important values are rooted here, for example: the role and importance of religion; how relationships are managed within the family; ways of expressing one’s self; how people deal with challenges, etc. R Roles: Current and past roles along with desired future roles are all important. It is through various roles that we function as social beings. Enhancement of roles valuable to us is almost always desirable. S Strengths: Remember to focus on strengths and abilities. Look for successes from their past. Find the individual traits, internal and external resources that help people survive and flourish. O Opportunities/Options: Most people have options open to them and/or have capacity to continue moving in a forward direction. Developing new skills, pursuing a long-term interest, getting reacquainted with an old friend are all common examples. N Needs: All people have needs. They may be for basic things like food, shelter, etc. Or, they might be needs of a different order such as the need to belong, or the need to contribute. You may find a range of awareness concerning needs. Some people are much more aware of their needs than others. Part of your job is to come to understand what individuals need. Asking questions is a powerful way to understand needs and how people address them. .
