In order to provide the appropriate intervention, social workers first need to have conducted a thorough assessment. Having a comprehensive understanding of a client and their social environment, including the influence of racism and ethnocentrism, allows a social worker to accurately identify the presenting problems and help the client develop goals to address their needs. Schools, peers, and the media can impact a child's development. In schools, teachers play a role in encouraging academic success and student involvement. The characteristics of the school itself also can influence student involvement. For example, larger schools increase the sense of anonymity in students, and teachers are often hard-pressed to provide individualized instruction.
Peers aid in socialization, often through the act of play. Even young children begin to prefer to play with other children rather than play by themselves or with adults. Children often model their behaviors based on their peers. Peers can reinforce behaviors (which may be desirable or undesirable by caregivers or teachers), encourage socially appropriate behavior and attitudes, establish age-related values, and help children learn how to interact with others.
Although television and electronic media impact a child's development, keep in mind that they only provide the medium for delivery of the message. The medium itself is neither inherently good nor bad. However, the harmful effects of television content (e.g., violence can increase aggressive behavior in viewers; stereotyped portrayals of ethnic and minority groups can leave viewers with inaccurate beliefs about these groups) are more readily recalled than the beneficial influences of some content (e.g., programs such as

These stressors and factors are identified in rural, urban and suburban sites of practice. Therefore, social work students need to be sensitive to these stressors and factors along with racial, ethnic, and cultural factors when working with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities, and colleagues.

There are also societal induced stressors and factors identified by many in society that subordinate, discriminate, oppress and affect special populations that must be addressed, understood and alleviated. These stressors and factors are identified in rural, urban and suburban sites of practice. Therefore, social work students need to be sensitive to these stressors and factors along with racial, ethnic, and cultural factors when working with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities, and colleagues.
Students are assigned to work individually to complete the following assignment in understanding human diversity, cultural diversity, and special populations:
1) Use the selected group below to research and locate information from books, refereed peer-reviewed journals, or other evidence-based research articles.
2) Using your critical thinking skills, provide your overall reaction to the authors’ presentation of the special population that you are researching. For example, do the authors’ research present stereotypes, value judgments or judgment conflicts?
3) Practice personal reflection and self-correction to assure continual professional development by answering the following questions: Do you have biases toward the diverse group? Explain. As a worker, identify how you eliminate biases and how professional values guide social work practice?

There are multifaceted ethical issues relating to international investments. One aspect relates to human rights. Most Latin American governments have constitutions that mandate health care as a human right, yet some of these countries provide poor health care for the majority of their population.
During the 1980s, the general populace of these countries deteriorated, even though several Latin American countries developed strategies to reposition medical personnel and services to rural areas. Throughout this time, many international donors provided assistance; however they did so with imposed conditions. An example of this constrained assistance was the World Bank, which imposed restrictions that included privatization of health care, as well as required limitations on universal access.
Did the World Bank and other international donors act responsibly and ethically in constraining their humanitarian assistance? Who has the responsibility for the health care of the Latin American people? Is it a reasonable and socially responsible practice to offer international assistance in exchange for an opportunity to shape a country's political and/or social system? Why or why not?

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

- 1. “Adjusting the Personality Challenges” Purpose of assignment -measure students ability to: (1) cope, and discuss issues related to human growth and behavior: Personality and adjustment individually and within societies/cultures, economics, marriage & family, racial, ethnic, and discrimination dilemmas, politics, domestic violence, technologies, i.e., Internet/social media, etc.,* (2) examine case studies and to evaluate and analyze the influence of major contributions to the field of personality and adjustment (psychology) as the discipline relates to well being, personality and adjustment, as well as social problems in terms of psychological research and theories, environment, heredity, and culture on one’s character or personality, and psychosocial, cognitive, and general development; and (3) demonstrate proficiency in using information literacy skills to produce individual/group papers, projects and presentations. *See skill set outcome and #s 1, 2 and 3 on your syllabus. Objectives: To understand the milestones and goals of personality psychology as it relates to family, work, school, social problems, coping strategies, social well-being, human behaviors and growth, and to also gain exposure to understanding theory, concepts, and research. (1) A. Provide a description and/or definition of the personality dilemma. B. Identify specific local community resources, such as phone numbers and contact information, and program details that are available to support an individual, group, or family for your chosen social dilemma. (2) Research your personality challenge and include one peer- reviewed, professional journal, one national or state organization Website, and three additional reference sources in your presentation.
- 2. You may use all or one of these local jurisdictions to complete your group project: 1. Washington, D.C., or 2. a specific county in Maryland, 3. or northern Virginia, to gather your research and search for resources. Pick 1 Topic for the project: 1. Your boyfriend or girlfriend is of a different background, race and culture. Your parents (and some other family members) do not approve of the relationship. 2. Your young, married brother is being battled by his wife (same age). 3. Your best friend has come to you for help. Someone has posted him/her on the Internet cybersexing, and s/he is up for an interview with a reputable company soon.
